Service, food and ambience were all on point at Marica. The staff is so nice, although it did seem like many of them were in training. Our server was pulling double duty, taking our order and bartending for the whole restaurant. It took a bit of coordination to order our entrees, which was a while after our apps came out. But overall, the we got our food and drinks out at a good pace. Dessert took a bit longer but we needed a break in between courses since our portions were so generous. Dishes - Twice Cooked Lobster is one of their signature dishes. The lobster was perfectly cooked. The vegetable medley was basic. Iberico pork chop was on the seasonal menu but it should be a regular staple. The chop was so tender and super flavorful. It was accompanied by a delicious mushroom risotto and a sweet and sour pepper relish-type component. The shrimp corn cake was a surprisingly large portion that had 4 mini pancakes and 4 large shrimp. There was a nice kick to the spices, and this could even be entree. I definitely want to mention they gave us quite a few extra items on the house - mixed salad, butternut squash soup and a panacotta. That was a nice touch and a great way to earn customer loyalty. My brother dined there previously and had the same experience. Parking is a bit challenging, which is par for the course for any restaurant area with street parking. So make sure you add a few minutes to give yourself time to find parking.

IG: BoozieBrunch Recommendation Small establishment & perfect for couples. Nice ambiance, cheerful staff w/a very welcoming vibe. Mocktail & Cocktails 3outta5 They didn't blow us away but they were refreshing. Crostini 4outta5 Lots of flavor! The tuna tartare & uni danced nicely. Oysters 3.75outta5 They were good but I wish they'd been served w/all of the oyster liquor still in the shell. This was my first serving ever w/only mignonette on the side. Shrimp Corn-cakes 5outta5 Explosive flavor, shrimp cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious! Seafood Risotto 5outta5 She loved it! I tasted it & wanted my own serving! Everything was cooked perfectly! Twice Cooked Lobster 4outta5 The flavor combo was amazing. The cook was just a tad bit inconsistent. Nothing was under but the claw & knuckle meat were almost nonexistent due to being over. There wasn't much meat & for the price, I didn't expect a petite serving. The spicy green rice, green beans and creamy sweet potato were excellent accompaniments. Chocolate Soufflé 4outta5 Excellent, chocolaty dessert. The server said let the ice cream melt but it was a lil too frozen to do so. We really enjoyed it though. We enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning! #GoTaste&See

Marica is in a gorgeous neighborhood and offers a delightful culinary experience. I came with my sister for a celebratory dinner. We were happy that we were seated quickly despite not having reservations. I chose their early dinner special, which included a well-prepared salmon plate and a choice between soup or salad; I opted for the soup due to the cold weather, and it was delicious, featuring corn and prawns. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and all ingredients tasted fresh. The special also included a dessert, and I selected the matcha crème brûlée topped with powdered sugar and blueberries, which was the highlight of the meal. My sister enjoyed her braised oxtail, praising its rich flavor and balanced texture without excessive fattiness.

Came here for an anniversary dinner, and the staff truly made it very memorable. This is a cute, intimate restaurant with an eclectic menu that has several seafood options. Immediately upon arriving, the staff greeted us promptly and was very friendly and courteous throughout our dinner. They definitely have attention to detail in terms of presentation and attentiveness to guests needs. There is a dinner menu and also nightly specials, so lots of options to chose from. Everything on the menus looked amazing, but we settled on the shrimp corncakes and the kumiai oysters as appetizers (special), the hawaiian ono (special) and the new york steak, and finished it off with the chocolate soufflé. Everything was delicious, and cooked to perfection. The steak was really delicious and cooked to perfection, in addition to the flavor being on point. I loved the intimate feel of this place, and they are great about making celebrations truly special. The price point is not too bad for the calber service and quality food you get. Parking is also not too bad and typically easy to find on the street. Definitely a spot to keep in your back pocket if you're looking for a a place with great food and ambiance.

Delicious, amazing absolutely fantastic! Marica is a gem right on the Oakland-Berkeley border. We loved the fresh outdoor seating, the beautiful setting, and the incredible Thai cuisine. We'll definitely be back!

SO GOOD. It's no wonder they've been around for over 25 years. From the moment we called to check if there was an open table everything just kept getting better. Complementary warm bread basket was so cozy and comforting as was the ambiance. We ordered the seafood stew and sea bass as well as a green salad. We devoured every last morsel of each dish. The service from everyone there was top notch and we can't wait to go back for more of everything and to try new dishes.

Marica, was a "hurry and pick a spot bc I'm coming from work and I'm hungry" (my boyfriend haha) so I quickly came on Yelp to look for a seafood restaurant and stumbled upon a hidden gem in Oakland I am SOOOO glad I did! I quickly made a reservation for 2 and we drove over. It was mostly empty because they were closing at 9pm so I had already looked at the menu and ordered the FAMOUS seafood stew, a dozen oysters and my man ordered an amazing dish too. If you have not been here, run DONT walk to Marica. I have a thing for family owned small businesses and my family owns a small business in Chicago so I am glad our money went to Marica, last night. My boo had a beer and I had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, which was quite the pour, I was not disappointed or complaining at all. We ate, had a cute conversation and went home to rest after, with happy tummies and happy hearts. Please do not miss out on this spectacular restaurant with amazing food, friendly and kind service and sweet staff!

It was a weekday night, got seated immediately. The service was great overall but the food wasn't. We ordered the calamari which seemed like a half order. The oysters were decent. My date had the seafood stew which tasted like canned minestrone soup with some shrimp. I ordered the new york steak. It was very little, the butter was ice cold. I came to this place many years ago and remembering the food was great. The portions are so small now. Great staff, food not that great.

Came to this spot to celebrate a birthday. The vibe was a blend of cozy and casual but the service was super professional though out. We got to try a bit of the chefs pri-fixe as well as off menu items and I was impressed by the execution of it all. We started with their mussels and we loved dipping the bread in the broth. Super flavorful and fresh. We then tried their lobster rolls with a leek soup on the side. I thought the roll was a little creamy but the texture of the lobsters was amazing. Next was a fried soft shell crab which was very unique to me. I normally do not enjoy soft shelled crabs but the preparation of it really changed things for me. Also the shoestring fries were a fun side. Following up we had a large bbq prawn which was probably my favorite dish. Some might find it lacking flavor given how large the prawn was but the lemon was all I needed. Before dessert we ended with long life noodles with some perfectly cooked lamb. To end the meal I tried two desserts, the mousse and the soufflé. The soufflé is a must try. I love how the vanilla ice cream pairs with the interior of the soufflé. The panna cotta was also good if you're more into a tarty dessert. Overall I would highly recommend anyone looking for a good meal to come here. The service is attentive and the chef is very passionate about his art as it showed in all his meals.

Marica's seafood stews were delicious--the kind of food that makes you slow down mid-bite just to register what's happening. Deep, briny broth, rich without being heavy, loaded with perfectly cooked seafood that tasted like it came straight out of the ocean and into the pot. Everything was layered: savory, a little sweet, a little wild, totally comforting. Messy, soulful, and unapologetically good. One of those meals where you're scraping the bowl and already plotting your return.

Every dish we ordered was delicious! My TOP faves: Calamari, Salmon, and Korean ribs. Excellent customer service -- Waitress (sorry I didn't get your name but wavy hair and wears glasses) she was the best! Gave us new, clean plates and utensils for main course after we finished our appetizers. Wiped down our table before serving our dessert. Checked on us regularly but not bothersome. The restaurant is small but not crowded; cute place to go on a date. Street parking. Nice part of Oakland.

Love it, love it, love it! Everything about the dining experience my wife and I had on Halloween was perfect. The staff was extremely friendly, the decor in the restaurant is beautiful, I loved the 50s and 60s music that was playing and the food was the best I've had all year! We truly enjoyed the Seabass, the seafood stew, the mixed green salad and a mock tail . I honestly am very excited to return in the near future and highly recommend you stop in as well.

    Ask the Community - Marica

There's a review for Alameda online that implies Marica is specializing in pizza, but that's not what the main website says. Is one of these websites obsolete?

Yes, we no longer specialize in pizza. Thanks!

Do you serve wine and beer?

    Yes we do!

    Is it kid friendly?

Hi Jose! We are a small family owned business with a very casual feel. Everyone is welcome! However, We do not have a kids menu. Let us know if you have any questions!

How are they with food allergy substitutions? Dairy specifically.

My daughter isn't allergic, but she is vegan. The server wasn't just accommodating to her substitution needs, he made her feel like the dish would be every bit as good even with the changes. Not every restaurant is willing to do that.

Oysters used to be reasonably priced at $1 or $1.50, how much are they going for now?

They are $2.50 but I'd pass on them, they weren't that spectacular. Stick to the Lobster and beet salad. Have Oysters at Sabella LaTorre in SF

Is there an age limit to dine here?

There isn't an age limit to dine, but this is not a good place to take younger children, as they can be disruptive in such a small space.

Do they have gluten friendly dishes or can they accomodate?

We can accommodate your gluten free needs. Most of our dishes do not include gluten, but we usually ask our gluten free diner to give us a heads up and we will notify the kitchen.

    Is there happy hour?

No... They're only open for dinner.

Is there parking besides street parking?

    Unfortunately not.

Is this a kid friendly restaurant?

It will depend on your kids. My oldest was super well-behaved in restaurants and would have been fine. The others I wouldn't have wanted there. The wait staff was super friendly and would, I'm sure, be very accommodating, but it's very much a… Read more

Do they still serve lamb shanks?

Hi there Amy! We have rack of lamb but currently runs as a special.

Why are they closed? I love this place!

Hi Wendy! We are back! We recently had a renovation. After doing pizza for about a month, we had many more requests to bring back our old menu, seafood, and classic dishes. Next week (January 27th) we should have many of our signature items back… Read more

Can you accommodate party's of 25?

Long since passed, but I'm curious whether if it occurred to them to maybe think about calling for a reservation for 25 f'ing people, rather than a random Yelp post.

Yes. $15 for a normal red or white.

The food in this place was good but the service was so bad at some point I felt like it was a torture. The place was kind of empty not too many table were full but the waiter just would be gone for long and wouldn't come ask if we needed anything. The wait between meals like appetizer and main course was so long not because of kitchen but the server was just gone for long at a stretch. I had to ask him to come and same with after our meal was finished he never came to ask if we needed dessert, The waiter on other table saw us a few times and he finally came and gave us a menu. I really wanted to try a dessert but was scared this will again take us another hour to even get the server to come and get our order. On top of really slow service there was an older man who sat in the table next to us and kept talking to us looking at our food. He literally was asking me if you support trump do you like him. He kept telling us how he knew the owner and his wife and has come to this place for 100 times over years and everything is free for him here. This was all ok but I wasn't sure why he wasn't letting us eat our meal in peace. At some point he became a little racist as well, when we tried to take our food goto he told us i won't take this goto. I never take this goto. And then was like ohh you are from India and it felt so uncomfortable. He was like do you watch fox, I watch fox. Then was like I have cable, I don't try to save money. Do you have cable.. omg never ending interrogation and also kept looking at our food and table and what we were eating and kept commenting on that. I understand this restaurant might have some old and familiar guest or important people come to this place but they should understand other guest should still be able to enjoy there meal without being bothered by the people who are known. It was one of my worse restaurant experiences, the service and on top of this man who somehow is VIP guest at this place made it so hard for us to have our date night meal in peace. I literally tried to run away from this place. This was almost 2 hrs long ordeal. We came a little before 6 and left at 8 and I never eat for that long. I'll NEVER go to this place again even though I loved the food.

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. I was a little bummed we didn't get to sit in the lower dining room like I booked on our reservations. It was still cute upstairs and good company always makes brunch even better. The servers were quick and helpful. I wanted something light so I just ordered the chicken and waffle bites. My husband got French toast and a side of chicken and my friend got a main entrée of a sandwich with some fries and a little soup. We arrived shortly after 10am and our wait was just under 30 minutes. The restaurant is cozy (on the smaller side) but has an interesting layout. There's seating both indoors, outside, and upstairs. You may have to squeeze by a few tables to make your way to the restroom. Customer service was friendly and attentive. Pricing for food & drinks was a bit high. Our total for 2 entrees and 2 drinks was $60 before tip. We ordered two drinks (orange juice and an iced mocha) which were provided promptly. The orange juice was a little too sour and my mom had to add some sugar to improve the taste. The iced mocha was good, not too sweet. One thing to note the wait for our food took much longer than expected, and it may have been due to how busy it was. My mom opted to order the salmon yuzu benedict and I got an egg plate (scrambled eggs) with a side green salad. My mom mentioned the potatoes lacking salt but she enjoyed the salmon benedict. I thought the scrambled eggs were good, but slightly bland & needed salt and pepper. The side green salad was alright, but the vinaigrette had a bitter aftertaste. Overall, the meal was pretty good and timing wasn't the best. I'd likely return for brunch on a non-peak day. Definitely recommend joining the yelp waitlist prior to arriving if you can!

As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

Given that we used to live a block and a half away, the Wolf became more than just a "sometimes"…read morerestaurant; it became our "Cheers." It's our first instinct for a bad day, a celebration day, an outing with friends, showing visitors our neighborhood, and saying hi to our favorite waiter. My last review of the Wolf was written a handful of years ago, during the vegetarian decades of my life. In the years since, I've expanded my diet and tried many, many more of their excellent dishes (even when our entire party orders a steak). Thank you, Wolf staff, for always making our neighborhood night out memorable.

We had reservations, but I arrived a little early so I grabbed a seat at the bar while waiting for the rest of my party. The bar area has a great vibe--lively and energetic--and it's a good option if you can snag a seat and don't have a reservation or want something a little more relaxed. The guy sitting next to me already had a drink, so I asked him what he was having. He told me it was the Kia Ora, a tequila-based cocktail, and said it was really good. It also happened to be the bartender's favorite, so it was getting great reviews all around. I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did--it was delicious. Not too sweet and really refreshing. The Wolf was definitely busy that night, so I was glad we had made a reservation, especially for a group our size. Once everyone arrived, we were seated at a big round table, which made it nice and easy to talk with everyone. I ordered another drink with dinner, this time the Amante, which is mezcal-based and supposed to have a spicy kick. It was also very good, though I personally didn't taste much of the spice. The service was good and everyone was friendly, though I do wish things had moved a little faster. I know that with a group of eight it can take some time, but we didn't get our food until around 9:15--about 45 minutes after we ordered--and by that point I was definitely hungry. When the food did arrive, it was worth the wait. I ordered the hamburger, which was excellent, and the fries were crispy and perfectly fried. Everyone else in the group seemed really happy with their meals too--though I'll admit I was a little too focused on eating my burger to keep track of what everyone else ordered. Overall, The Wolf is a great spot with a fun atmosphere and really solid food and drinks. I'd definitely recommend it for a date night or a group dinner.

We even had chips left after eating all the dip, how often does that happen? The steak salad was done perfectly. Would have been nice to have a side plate to cut the meat but we figured it out. The El Gordito Pizza had a great crust and very tasty sauce, just right amount of ingredients. Held up nicely when picked up. Soft drink selection was ok. Really liked the brewery list for beers but come on, know which beer it is from each brewery. How many Hazy IPA does Ghost Town make or West Coast IPA does Original Pattern brew? Asked the waitress to check the keg and she came back and said it was an India Pale Ale. Slap my head! Overall, a very solid experience.

My chilaquiles were solid, and while the mole wasn't my favorite style, it had a good kick and was clearly well made. The issue for me is the price. I ended up paying over $30 for an appetizer, chilaquiles, and water, and that just didn't feel like a good value for what I got. This street has a lot of excellent options, including some true five-star spots at similar prices and others that are just better priced for everyday meals. When I'm spending that much for brunch-level food, I expect something that really knocks it out of the park, and this didn't quite get there. Nothing was bad. It was a pleasant experience. I just don't see myself going back given the cost and the competition nearby. If price isn't a concern, you might enjoy it more than I did. For me, it's a solid but expensive meal in a neighborhood with a lot of strong alternatives.

There was no wait time and we were able to get a table. The server was very sweet. I am vegetarian and was looking for veg options. She went through the menu with me and helped me think through. I got the vegan spicy tomato pizza and my friend got the shakshouka. We also got some herbal tea to go on the side. The tea came out pretty quickly and tasted great. The food also came out pretty quickly. The presentation of the pizza was top notch and I could not wait to dig in. The portion size was adequate. The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. He said it was flavorful and tasted great! Over all, we loved this restaurant. The ambiance is very welcoming and they have farm to table concept. We shared a plate of the tossed green salad and crispy Brussels sprouts, in addition to two pizzas - Fun-Gi and the Spicy Tomato. The crispy Brussels sprouts stole the show - the deep-frying created a smoky flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture that was equally loved by vegetarians and non-vegetarians in the group. The tossed salad was decent; the lettuce was heavily coated with oily dressing, which I think could have used more acidity. The Fun-Gi pizza was our favorite of the two pies - the hint of truffle oil and rosemary took this mushroom pizza to the next level. I also loved the light and airy crust, which had the perfect amount of crispiness. I wasn't as much of a fan of the Spicy Tomato pizza; while I really liked the unexpected sweetness from the tapenade, the cashew cream drizzle seemed out-of-place. The ambiance of the restaurant was whimsical and warm, providing the perfect backdrop for my friends to linger over our meal. The outdoor seating also looked very charming, and I imagine it would be nice to dine here on a warm, summer evening.
