I came here during a weekday for brunch. That is probably the best time to come due to street parking filling up fast. To drink, I had the raspberry lemonade. This is easily 5/5. Perfect blend of sweetness & tartness. For an appetizer we got the popcorn chicken & Korean FC. My favorite was the popcorn chicken it was 5/5 and I loved that they added actual popcorn. The Korean FC was okay 3/5. The Mac N Cheese sounded very interesting, however, it fell flat. It was dry and not cheesy. I would rate it 2/5. We got the Chicken & Story Burger. The Chicken Burger 4/5 was definitely better than the Story Burger 2/5. The Story Burger was lacking in flavor. The potatoes wedges were really good though. Not pictured was the millionaire bacon 5/5. It was so good and I would love to try the BLT with millionaire bacon. Lastly, we got the Lemon Ricotta Pancake 1/5 it was bitter and the second pancake under the first was burnt. We also got the Mascarpone Stuffed Deep Fried French Toast which was 100/5. Every bite was amazing. Would definitely come back again for that dish alone. Other than that, a lot of the dishes fell flat for me but the presentation of the food was beautiful and service was good as well.

Showed up a little earlier for my lunch meeting. They did sign me right away while I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. The food was great. Had some chicken and waffles. I love the menu and the Asian influence in the food. The restaurant was a cozy place for lunch.

Pros -you can make reservations (highly recommended as there was a line each time I visited) -fast and great service -delicious food in a walkable neighborhood Cons -can be difficult to find parking, so leave extra time to get there Drinks 8/10 Hot Matcha latte - it's unsweetened (which I prefer), has a deep matcha flavor and overall well rounded 6/10 Hot Chai - not very much flavor, a little to milky for my liking and didn't get any of the expected "spice" flavor usually found in chai tea Food 9/10 Salmon Yuzu Benedict - the salmon was refreshing and delicious, eggs cooked perfectly, and the potato's were well seasoned and cooked 9/10 Crab Benedict - shockingly lots of crab loaded with spinach, the eggs were perfect 7/10 Korean friend chicken and waffles - the chicken was amazing and cooked perfectly. The waffle is VERY sweet. I'm not usually a fan of waffles with the much sugar, but it does have a lot of flavor and is balanced by the savory chicken and syrup that it comes with

Was able to make a reservation for the morning but I will say it wasn't necessary because there was plenty of tables. The staff was friendly and explained the menu really well. The place was clean and there is also outdoor seating. The food was delicious perfect fusion and the lychee tea was yummy.

Went here for a birthday brunch! Highly recommend to get there early because this place gets packed pretty quickly. The ambiance is busy and very friendly. There are 2 floors that you can be seated in as well as an outdoor table. I had the omurice and was really satisfied with my meal! The galbi was savory, sauces and flavorful and it was served fresh off the stove. I also had the mascarpone French toast which was huge! Definitely recommend sharing that one. The rest of my family really enjoyed their meals too! I was able to get a bite of the Yukon potatoes and they were seasoned wonderfully, Excited to try this place again.

Kitchen Story was a great spot for brunch, and even some holiday cocktail options. The ambiance is very welcoming and cozy, with some holiday decor which was really fun. The food was delicious! I got the French toast, complete with fresh fruit on top. The menu has a lot of options, definitely something for everyone. Staff were very friendly, and service was pretty quick. Street parking only, but the restaurant is in a great location surrounded by other cute spots (stores, cafes, etc.). This place is good for any size group, reservations recommended because it's a popular spot!

Went in today for my mom's birthday. The wait was not too long to get seated. Unfortunately, the service was not as good as normal. Took a while to get our order taken and two of our entrees came out then it took several more minutes for my mom's food to come to the table. I ordered the open face with the burger cooked mid rare and it came cooked well. I thought the flavor was good despite the over cooking. Servers never checked in on how things were tasting. My partner had the chicken and waffle which was tasty as always. Love the eclectic decor inside.

Kitchen story will ALWAYS be one of my favorite brunch spots in the bay. (It's not just the bottomless mimosas that make me feel that way!). Everything tastes so authentic, flavorful, and intentional. The service is impeccable, if I could eat the millionaire bacon and biscuits as a snack every day, I would. The ambiance is cute. It feels like you're sitting in someone small cottage with an auntie that throws down in the kitchen, which is my favorite breakfast vibe. Highly recommend this place! I've many many times and still haven't found anything I didn't absolutely love!

This is my first time trying Kitchen Story in Oakland, but I've been to the one in SF twice! This location is a lot smaller but the holiday vibes were super cute and they have ample outdoor seating as well. I ordered the Salmon Yuzu Benedict and a Passionfruit Iced Tea. The iced tea was unsweetened and delicious - super refreshing for brunch. I loved the yuzu flavor of the salmon benedict, the pickled onions were a perfect sour punch, and the potatoes were crispy and fluffy as well. Our server was attentive and super friendly! Parking is tricky but if you drive down the residential streets around the block it's free and not a far walk!

This place was so good! Came here on a Sunday and it was packed. Bloody mary and margarita didn't disappoint! I got the chicken and waffles and my partner got the tornado. 10/10 on both dishes. The chicken was so crispy but moist. The tornado had layers of flavor. The service was fast and food came out within 10 minutes. Definitely coming back

Phenomenal brunch flavors are worth the wait (and sore bum)! Kitchen Story is an epic brunch spot. If you're planning a weekend visit, I definitely recommend making a reservation, or be prepared for a bit of a wait. I met a friend here for Sunday brunch, and we ordered an assortment of plates and beverages to share. Everything was delicious and repeatable, but here's my order of personal preference for the food: Korean FC Wings: Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely standout. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: Perfectly fluffy, and bright flavors on perfectly prepared pancakes. Goji Bowl: A solid, satisfying savory option. For beverages, the Ube Latte and the Millionaire's Bloody Mary were the stars of the show. Their house coffee and unsweetened passion fruit iced tea were good, but fairly standard. My only suggestion for management would be to invest in more comfortable seating, but honestly, it was worth the sore bum to enjoy all those delicious flavors! I will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.

Still a very good breakfast option in the East Bay. Service is hospitable, but still a long wait. Wish they accepted reservations!

Kitchen Story is definitely a vibrant and busy place. It was nice to see such a diverse crowd. They had outdoor and indoor seating. We made a reservation and highly recommend doing so as the wait time can be almost an hour without a reservation. To me if you don't order a fusion dish then it's not the best. Their fusion dishes are what they are known for and I just felt like those were the best out of what we tried. I ordered the crab Benedict and that was a mistake. The crab tasted super off so I sent it back. They kindly removed it from the bill which we were grateful for. The potatoes that came with my dish were delicious, crispy and perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the Fried Tornado Galbi Omurice. It was excellent. The rice was perfect as was the egg and it was cozy with really fresh and delicious flavors. Very savory. We got the Tater Tot Poutine as well which was so good. Crunchy. Cozy. Warm. Delicious. I would maybe go again, but parking is horrendous, wait time is long and the dishes were hit or miss. Servers were kind.

I ordered a couple of their popular dishes, the KAOKAO Char Siu Set and the Chong Qing Noodles, and both were fantastic. The char siu was so tasty, nicely cooked with most of the fat rendered (a big plus since unrendered fat especially on BBQ is a pet peeve of mine). It had that satisfying chew, a subtle smoky char, and a sweet-savory black bean glaze that tied everything together. The rice and pickled cucumbers on the side were a great balance to the in your face flavors of the pork. The Chong Qing Noodles were another highlight. You can tell the noodles are handmade as they are springy, chewy, and full of texture. The staff actually recommended that I get them uncooked since I was ordering to go, so I could boil them at home for a few minutes to keep the perfect bite and they were totally right. The broth was rich and balanced, with nutty sesame paste, a gentle kick from chili oil, a bit of crunch from peanuts, and some fresh bok choy for contrast. Everything was packed thoughtfully for takeout and still tasted amazing even after a longer drive. Overall, a really pleasant experience with great food, great service, and a place I'll definitely return to next time I find myself around Berkeley!

The restaurant was packed and seating is pretty limited, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The atmosphere is lively and energetic with casual Japanese eatery vibes, and service was friendly throughout the meal. Everything felt creative, rich in flavor, and very texture-focused. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Mousse (monkfish liver) with sweet potato chips - Made with truffle paste, capers, and chives. Absolutely delicious. The mousse was rich and savory but surprisingly fluffy in texture -- honestly a savory girl's dream. The sweet potato chips added just enough sweetness and a snap to balance the richness of the liver. 9/10 * Bluefin Tuna & Tsubugai Sashimi Nuta - Bluefin tuna, sea snail, broccolini, and fresh wakame tossed in a sweet Kyoto yuzu miso vinaigrette. Kind of like a sashimi-seaweed salad. I really liked the vinaigrette and especially the texture of the sea snail. I'm not sure all the ingredients fully came together cohesively, but it was still enjoyable overall. 7.5/10 * Yuba (house-made tofu skin with ikura and uni) - Served as single bites on spoons. SO good. You can really taste the difference between house-made tofu skin and store-bought. It's much more delicate, creamy, and tender, with a mild soybean flavor that balanced the richness of the uni and salmon roe beautifully. The textures in this bite were incredible. 9.5/10 * Iberico Pork Jowl Skewer with miso marinade - I honestly prefer pork jowl over pork belly. The fat and meat are more integrated instead of layered, so every bite is tender, juicy, and flavorful with just the right amount of chew. So good. 9/10 * Clam & Cilantro Ramen - I've never had a ramen broth quite like this. It was slightly creamy and deeply flavored from the clams, and the cilantro added a lot of depth and freshness. The noodles had a great texture too -- chewy and bouncy. Everything worked together perfectly. 9/10 * Uni Carbonara Pasta - Pasta with parmesan, uni, and ikura. They do not skimp on the uni or roe here. Super creamy and rich with bursts of saltiness from the ikura. The texture was great, but I honestly wished it had just a tiny bit more salt to really make all the flavors pop. It was almost there for me. 7.5/10 * Desserts - We tried two desserts, including the sweet potato brûlée. Both were delicious. One had a silky panna cotta-like texture, while the sweet potato brûlée was creamy, lightly sweet, and had the perfect crackly sugar top. 9/10 Overall, such a fun meal with a lot of unique dishes and flavor combinations. There are still so many things on the menu I want to try next time. I'll definitely be back.

The standouts were the corn tempura, the sushi and the beef okonomiyaki. The skewers were good but not great; I felt the pork belly was a tad salty, and some of the pieces of the beef were slightly overcooked + chewy. The black cod was flaky but I wish it was marinated a bit more with the miso for stronger flavor. I wish I did not order the spring roll or the foil wrapped salmon. The spring roll was soggy bc the filling inside was so damp and lacked seasoning & flavor. The salmon was very dry, but the mushrooms were flavorful and juicy. Definitely recommend reservations or be ready to wait at least 45 minutes. The inside is quite small, tables as well, so be ready to sit pretty close to your neighboring patrons. Very lively atmosphere that can get loud, but could also be fun!

The standout dish here is definitely the corn salad, it's not just tasty, it's visually striking too. Instead of mixing everything together, they slice off a whole side of the corn and lay it right on top, which makes the dish feel a bit more thoughtful and intentional. Flavor-wise, it's fresh and bright with a nice little kick of spice that sneaks up on you without being overwhelming. Getting there is pretty easy, too. It's conveniently located right by the Rockridge BART Station, or you can just hop on the 51B and ride it to the end of the line. Either way, it's a super accessible stop if you're coming from around the East Bay.

This restaurant is slightly different from Imm Thai's, with a more higher end presentation, while Imm has a greater focus on street food. I decided to get their Tom Yum Omelette Rice because it looked the most enticing to me. It was delicious! I love the tom yum flavor infused in the rice and the fluffy egg on top. Do keep in mind that this is more on the spicy side (I thought it was a good spice level, but I personally enjoy spicy food). I also got to try a few of my friends' dishes including the Pad Kee Mao and the Tom Yum soup. The Pad Kee Mao is also quite spicy, but both dishes were also packed with flavor. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and elegant, while the service was friendly and efficient. We went at 7:00PM on a Wednesday night, and there were not that many people in the restaurant. Definitely a restaurant on my recommended list!

Upon arrival, they looked full in the indoor area in the front, but they actually had seating in the back, which is where they sat the two of us. This time I got the following: Thai Tea - This tasted as expected, so that means it was good. I told them I didn't want a straw, and they remembered! I usually keep a reusable straw on me for such occasions. Mi Krob (Special) - This dish is more of an appetizer. It was tasty and crunchy; a little sweet and a little spicy. A couple of the pieces were a bit large for small bites. Thai Basil Noodle - This was very good because of how flavorful it was. It was also slightly spicy. Since they brought the dish with chopsticks, I told them I didn't need them, so they took them away. I used reusable chopsticks that I typically keep in my purse. Massaman Curry (with beef) - This was decent, though the other dishes were better. We asked them to make it mild. The curry itself tasted good, but the main issue was that the beef was a little boring and dry. Overall, this place has delicious food (aside from the beef in the curry), so I would come again. I'm glad that they use so much reusable dishware (see Eco Notes below). ECO NOTES (Dine-In) Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and bowls Napkins: Single-use disposable paper napkin Utensils: Metal fork plus disposable wooden chopsticks (for specific dishes, which is a smart way to save money) Water cups: Reusable glasses

Indoor seating is pretty limited, but the space overall has a relaxed, easygoing vibe. Service was fast, efficient, and never an issue. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite keep up with the setting. Nothing terrible, just slightly disappointing across the board and lacking the kind of flavor that makes you want to come back Parking? Street parking. Manageable depending on timing I had: Pumpkin Curry (3.5/5): This looked far better than it tasted. Presentation was solid, vibrant colors, nicely plated, the kind of dish that makes you optimistic when it hits the table. But the flavor never really followed through. The sauce felt flat and thinner than it should've been, lacking the depth and richness that makes a pumpkin curry memorable. There also wasn't enough actual pumpkin, which feels like a weird miss for a pumpkin curry. I did appreciate that it came with rice on the side, which helped round the dish out a bit. Not terrible overall, just a curry that felt more polished visually than it did flavor-wise

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. The price of their sandwiches is in the $20 range, but the quality and portion make it totally worth it.

I'd try the meatball sandwich. This was yesterday
