First visit to Almond & Oak and we left already planning what to try next! The hostess was super nice and got us seated right away, and our server was friendly and did a great job explaining the menu. The space is open and spacious with plenty of seating, and the open wood-fire kitchen gives you a front-row seat to watch the chefs do their thing. I went with the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich, and that crunch stayed strong all the way to the last bite--even while swimming in hot honey! The mix salad was a nice break from the honey between bites. Honestly, it could've been one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've had if it wasn't quite so heavy on the honey. Next time, I'll be ordering it on the side to control how much is on there, plus it'll be a lot less messy to eat! My wife really enjoyed the French toast too and would order it again. Lots more on the menu caught our eye, so we'll definitely be back to work our way through it!
Great food, great service but beware sitting by the open kitchen! It gets SO HOT! My back was against the open kitchen and I was burning and sweating man. It wasn't even a hot day either. The beignets were OK. Shrimp and grits were good Fried chicken sandwich was really flavorful and delicious. next time I would ask for sauce on the side, it got very sloppy. The steak sandwich and crabcake benefit were great. Also, noting that their wait time is not very accurate. Better to make a reservation.
Quite a delicious brunch menu. The food here is top tier for brunch and lunch food and the vibes in this restaurant are immaculate. I would highly recommend anyone in the area to stop bye almond and oak for a delicious and tasty brunch or lunch. I went with a few buddies and we sat at the bar for brunch. The servers were quite attentive and did a great job making sure we not only were taken care of but that we were also enjoying our meals.
Solid place for lunch! Everything we got was tasty and service was impeccable. Its also super spacious inside and was packed on a Saturday for lunch. We got there closer to 2pm, which is when they close the kitchen and stop seating for lunch. The two dishes we wanted to try were sold out by then (french toast and the cornbread). We got powdered sugar beignets, the burger with fries, shrimp n grits, a pear salad, and a side of country potatoes. The potatoes were my favorite--crispy and crunchy on the outside and piping hot, perfectly cooked on the inside. Beignets were HUGE and tasty (although I think I prefer them smaller?). Burger was a-ok. Shrimp n grits was tasty overall and I appreciated the jumbo-sized shrimp! But it was missing a deeper flavor and definitely needed more spice(s). We enjoyed our mom-catch-up and appreciated how accommodating and fast the service was. Would come back to try what we couldn't!

We got lucky and called in a few hours before for our large party of 10 and another party had cancelled. It's a very open space with a modern rustic atmosphere. Our server was very accommodating and checked in frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. We ended up getting bottles of champagne for the mimosas at the table before settling in and ordering our individual meals. I ended up ordering the chive scrambled eggs. The eggs were scrambled to perfection and that bacon??? Just the right amount of crisp. I almost ordered extra because it was that good. Also, do NOT sleep on their housemade hot sauce. I put it on my eggs and it gave it the extra kick I needed because I love spicy food. I also ordered the french toast to split with my friend for a little sweet treat to go with my savory meal. I didn't enjoy this as much but mostly because it's a different take on french toast and I was craving a classic version. Still good but just know that it might not be what you expect. When I'm in Oakland again, I'll definitely need to circle this one back or even check out their lunch or dinner menu.
I love the ambience of this place. It's nice and dark and warm. I love the espresso martinis. So far I've loved every dish that I've gotten. The staff is inviting and attentive. I'm hoping to come here for breakfast one day.
Stopped into Almond and Oak for dinner on my way home from a meeting and let me tell you the chicken breast I ordered was outstanding. The flavor on the chicken from being cooked over an open wood flame soaked in that Smokey woody flavor but not overbearing just right and was charred to perfection and not dry at all and served over a poblano purée. The veggies it came with were also really nice, the avacado was grilled and the cumin lime vinaigrette that topped the veggies was a great touch. I will definitely be returning here to try the flat iron steak if that's how well they make the chicken. Had myself a nice glass of Sazerac Rye to enjoy my meal. Amazing array of flavors. Fantastic. Would have gave it 5 stars but the service was a little off, not so welcoming. But the food is worth the visit, I will definitely be back.
I really enjoyed the few times I've brunched here. The food and cocktails are consistently delicious. Today, we were able to book a 10:30AM reservation spur of the moment and Almond & Oak once again did not disappoint. My friend and I ordered two drinks: the Aviator and a Bloody Mary which were both cheers worthy. For our meals my friend had the soft scramble eggs with roasted potatoes and avocado and I ordered the NY steak sandwich. We shared the baked French toast with macerated strawberries. All our brunch items were incredibly yummy. My steak was cooked mid-rear tender and seasoned perfectly. The soft scramble was more on the medium side and would've been perfect if it was "glistening" more. Our server was efficient and checked on us once. I would definitely come back for brunch again!
3.5 STARS One thing I absolutely refuse to pay $20 for are eggs and bacon. Yet here I was sitting at Almond & Oak with order envy. They get the basics right with the creamy, delicately loose curds, crispy applewood bacon and crunchy-soft potatoes with a smoky kiss from the grill. Meanwhile, I was trying to save my Shrimp & Grits ($21) by drowning it in nearly 1/3rd a bottle of hot sauce. Sadly, it was flavorless. Some parm in the grits would have done wonders. The saving grace were the poached eggs - perfectly done, with a dramatic cascade of liquid gold when broken! Came here for brunch with a friend on a Sunday at 1:30! It looked busy but luckily they could take us walking in. We chose patio seating. We first chose to come here because they had Bloody Marys on the menu and we were craving them! The service was friendly all throughout. My friend ordered the eggs benedict and I got the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. I think hot honey is having quite the moment lol but I think I would have preferred the sandwich without it! It was really drippy and sticky with a lot of honey oozing on the plate - I would be much happier to order it crispy and dry without honey if that's an option. My friend enjoyed her eggs benedict. They also had a good beer and wine menu and my friend ordered a sour beer. Overall I had a really nice time here, it's a good vibe, friendly service, good Bloody Mary and good food! Excited to come back and try more dishes and maybe sit on the inside to scope out the indoor vibe lol. Oh patio had some sun creeping in so that was a bit not ideal but overall was totally fine.
Very tasty, Southern inspired foods. I loved the spicy chicken sandwich and their cornbread. There was a wait list on a Saturday morning, but the text to let us know our table was ready came fairly quickly. Our server was very prompt and kind. The restaurant is beautiful, with a full bar and view of their grand oven. Highly recommend to make a reservation here for brunch.
Came here for lunch with a friend at 1 PM on a Saturday. We came 15 minutes late after our reservation because of parking and they were understanding of it. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.
Came here for brunch around 1pm on Sunday. It wasn't too crowded, but a nice ambiance. I got the baked French toast, and it was really good! Not too sweet either! There are high ceilings which makes the space feel more open. I'd love to come to try their dinner.
Shrimp & Grits: Well spiced, moderate temperature and the cilantro helped freshen up the flavor profile. Shrimps were juicy, sauce thick, eggs perfectly runny. Decent amount of food! Skillet Corn Bread: Crunchy exterior, sliced peppers throughout, medium crumb, slightly sweet butter. Would recommend getting to share with the table. SIDE OF FRIES: TRANSCENDENT. BEST FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD. Seasoned with salt, cracked black pepper, dill and parsley. Holds form well for dipping. Crunchy outside, fluffy inside. If you appreciate well seasoned balanced fries, get these. It takes some time to get your food but the food comes out fresh so it's well worth the wait. The staff are attentive and friendly which is a merit to itself because this place is incredibly busy. Props to them. Ambiance is beautiful. Many natural materials but the glass blown lamps and the mint green art nouveau (?) decoration are stunning. This seems like a great place to dine at for many occasions. 10/10 come visit. read more

Great service and the food was yummy. The mimosa craft was just enough to share for two could've done three people. We felt welcomed from the first point of coming in to our departure. Everyone said hello status and constantly checked on us. It was a nice experience. read more

I discovered Almond & Oak from a foodie on Instagram who was checking out burger spots in Oakland. The burger looked pretty good and I decided to give it a try The restaurant was packed but I was able to get a seat at the bar. I ordered the Brunch Burger and I appreciated the bartender recommendation to get it medium which came out a nice warm pink. But I really enjoyed the scallion cornbread. That was the winner! I'm looking forward to trying more restaurants in Oakland:) read more

This is the perfect brunch place! If you haven't been, it needs to move up on your list of places to eat. We went on a busy day and thought we were going to have to wait long but we got seated pretty quickly. It was nice that day so we chose to sit outside. The service was wonderful! Our waitress was really helpful in giving us suggestions on what to try. The food came out quickly and was fresh. My friend and I ordered a bunch of things to try, everything was delicious. Definitely went home with so many leftovers. I will definitely be coming back and looking forward to trying their dinner menu. I have already recommended this place to a couple people. read more

(It was kinda the midway point between SF and Lafayette.) Own of my gfs picked this place and made the rezzie. I just had to show up. Parking was pretty easy. I parked in the lot across the street and just paid at the machine. This spot is very cute and boisterous. Kind of a trendy converted warehouse vibe. All dishes were plated nicely and colorful. Note that if you order a main, you probably do not need to add a salad as some of them come with salads. We did not read the menu well apparently cuz we ordered a salad on the side. I adore my greens so it was fine with me. We didn't finish the salads tho. I got the chicken sando. It was crispy and flavorful. We all shared everything, so got to taste a variety of dishes. The benedict had a nice oozy egg. The french toast was creamy and added a nice sweet element. Drinks were fun. I normally like my cocktails more spirit forward. (I got two Palomas.) We recently went to Almond & Oak for brunch and had such a great experience. When we got there, we put our name in and were told the wait would be about an hour and 15 minutes. It ended up only being around 40 minutes, which was such a nice surprise. We sat at a high top table and it actually worked out perfectly. It was raining the day we went, so we weren't able to enjoy the outdoor space, but the inside still had such a warm and lively vibe. I tried the honey fried chicken sandwich and honestly, words cannot even describe how delicious it was. It was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweetness, and even the salad on the side was superb. You can tell they really care about every part of the plate. We also ordered the eggs Benedict and the French toast and both were amazing. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and just really well done. Overall, such great vibes and incredible food. Next time I would probably make a reservation, especially if the weather is not ideal. We will definitely be back. read more
Visited Almond & Oak for the first time for a Saturday brunch - we made a reservation and were seated immediately at a cute table by the window. There were available tables outside but the majority of individual and community tables inside were full by 10:30am. We tried the seasonal fruit plate, crab cake Benedict, oysters, scallion corn bread, and steak sandwich. I loved that the fruit bowl wasn't the standard melon/grape/pineapple! The Benedict was good but didn't blow my mind. The oysters were fresh and small, served with lemon and mignonette. Scallion corn bread was good but would not order again. The steak sandwich was the best menu item we got! It was filled with thinly sliced steak on toasted bread with a great salad on the side. The cappuccino was also a highlight for me, the coffee was delicious and so strong!! read more

A couple friends and I hit up the brunch for the first time this weekend, and we had no regrets. We started with the beignets, which we split between the two flavors on offer. Then two of us went with the Benedict (mine with bacon subbed for crab cakes for my shellfish allergy), and we couldn't have been happier with that choice. The hollandaise was unusually excellent, and the eggs were perfectly poached. The friend who got the pozole said it was the tasty, but some additional heat would've made it even better. One note: if you're looking for a quiet place to chat, this is not your spot. The atmosphere is lively and the acoustics are a little tricky for quiet conversations. read more
Stopped by for Saturday brunch without a reservation. I called the same day and was able to get a table ~ 1.5 hours later. I'd definitely recommend booking on Resy if you can since it gets busy. If you come on a Saturday and end up waiting, there's the Grand Lake Farmers market just a block or two away, which is a nice way to pass the time. The ambiance is cozy and our server was friendly. We ordered a few dishes: - NY Steak Sandwich (subbed mixed greens for fries at no additional cost). This was my favorite dish out of everything ordered. - Benedict - The crab cakes were good, but the biscuit was very hard and a bit too small. It was difficult to eat. - Hot honey fried chicken sandwich - This was tasty but very salty. - Scallion cornbread - I'm a big cornbread fan and loved it with the honey butter. - Fall vegetable hash -- Solid but nothing memorable. We decided to check out Almond & Oak because everyone raved about it, and the food looked amazing! After we went, I was a little bummed that the food wasn't as good as I thought it would be. We got a steak and a burger for our main courses, and burrata for an appetizer. The burrata was fantastic, but the entrees were just okay. I don't think the price is really worth the quality and taste. The steak was a bit bland, and the burger was just like any other. We made a reservation pretty last minute. Had the steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, and burger. Opted for their fries. Their fries reminded me a bit of in-n-out fries - a bit tough and dry. Their oysters tasted fresh and michelada was refreshing. We did wait quite a bit for the entrees. We were there closer to closing time so that might have been why. The honey chicken was too sweet for me lol The steak sandwich was pretty good, the bottom bread just got too soggy. The place was pretty open and had cute decorations. My friend and I decided to come here after barre and ended up sitting at the bar funny enough. The bartenders and waiters were so nice and attentive to us. My friend ordered the quiche with a side salad, and I ordered the vegetable hash. The quiche was honestly really good. Good flavor and not too heavy. The waitress recommended the salad on top, and it was great. The hash I killed. It was nice and healthy but satisfying and still flavorful for a super healthy thing. I will say, I think I've discovered I'm not a big fan of celery root, but it was still really good. I almost got the shrimp and grits, but I decided to put it off and save it for next time. Service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed the menu a lot of good selections. Me and my brunch date both had crab cake egg benedicti. I had it with salad. She had it with potatoes. Yeah, it was really good. I enjoyed the ambiance. The kitchen is on display so you can see food being prepared. read more
Had a great time sitting outside with friends grabbing a drink and some small bites. The waitstaff and host were super attentive and friendly. The indoor space looked amazing, but the warm weather called us all outside. Meatballs were just the right size to keep you full enough to not get drunk from their very good but potent cocktails. Cool scene. I like the large inside seating area. It feels do open with it's high ceiling and large windows. The cocktails are unique and tasty. Great appetizers, especially the grilled corn on the cob. Yum! Service was good. However, when it is busy it becomes a little difficult to waive down your server due to the large number of people. I will definitely be coming here again. Note: A short walk from Lake Merritt. Add this place to your walk around the lake. read more

A+++ brunch spot. Caught up with a close friend here, made a reservation the night before (recommend, it gets BUSY!). We were impressed by the food, atmosphere, and service. We ordered a few things to split, family-style: - BEIGNETS (omg the perfect beignet. but I could only eat half of one before tapping out lol, so heavy?) - QUICHE (a bit dry for my taste but their cherry tomatoes are sweet beyond compare) - HOT HONEY FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH (perf balance of sweet and savory, with the most tender chicken and fluffy bun) NOTE: The Resy forebodingly warns you when you book an outdoor table-- I'm sure it's because they've had disgruntled diners before who decided to complain. This was my third time here, and I absolutely love this place. We ordered the eggs Benedict, cornbread, and shrimp and grits, and everything was fantastic -- flavorful, well-executed, and consistently good every time I've visited. The food also comes out quick, which is always a huge plus. I also love how they present the tea -- such a nice touch that makes the experience feel thoughtful and elevated. The restaurant does get loud, so keep that in mind if you're coming with a group or want an easy conversation -- it can be hard to hear at times. The first two visits, the front desk staff were always very kind and welcoming. This third visit, however, our waitress wasn't as attentive and came off a bit rude. Each time I asked for something, it felt like I was inconveniencing her. Maybe she was just having a rough day, but it was noticeable compared to my previous experiences. That said, the food and overall vibe keep me coming back. Despite the one service hiccup, this is still a place I genuinely love and would absolutely recommend. read more
