    Cornbread

I discovered Almond & Oak from a foodie on Instagram who was checking out burger spots in Oakland. The burger looked pretty good and I decided to give it a try The restaurant was packed but I was able to get a seat at the bar. I ordered the Brunch Burger and I appreciated the bartender recommendation to get it medium which came out a nice warm pink. But I really enjoyed the scallion cornbread. That was the winner! I'm looking forward to trying more restaurants in Oakland:)

Came here for brunch around 1pm on Sunday. It wasn't too crowded, but a nice ambiance. I got the baked French toast, and it was really good! Not too sweet either! There are high ceilings which makes the space feel more open. I'd love to come to try their dinner.

3.5 STARS One thing I absolutely refuse to pay $20 for are eggs and bacon. Yet here I was sitting at Almond & Oak with order envy. They get the basics right with the creamy, delicately loose curds, crispy applewood bacon and crunchy-soft potatoes with a smoky kiss from the grill. Meanwhile, I was trying to save my Shrimp & Grits ($21) by drowning it in nearly 1/3rd a bottle of hot sauce. Sadly, it was flavorless. Some parm in the grits would have done wonders. The saving grace were the poached eggs - perfectly done, with a dramatic cascade of liquid gold when broken! My friend and I decided to come here after barre and ended up sitting at the bar funny enough. The bartenders and waiters were so nice and attentive to us. My friend ordered the quiche with a side salad, and I ordered the vegetable hash. The quiche was honestly really good. Good flavor and not too heavy. The waitress recommended the salad on top, and it was great. The hash I killed. It was nice and healthy but satisfying and still flavorful for a super healthy thing. I will say, I think I've discovered I'm not a big fan of celery root, but it was still really good. I almost got the shrimp and grits, but I decided to put it off and save it for next time. I'll definitely be back. This was delish.

This is the perfect brunch place! If you haven't been, it needs to move up on your list of places to eat. We went on a busy day and thought we were going to have to wait long but we got seated pretty quickly. It was nice that day so we chose to sit outside. The service was wonderful! Our waitress was really helpful in giving us suggestions on what to try. The food came out quickly and was fresh. My friend and I ordered a bunch of things to try, everything was delicious. Definitely went home with so many leftovers. I will definitely be coming back and looking forward to trying their dinner menu. I have already recommended this place to a couple people.

We recently went to Almond & Oak for brunch and had such a great experience. When we got there, we put our name in and were told the wait would be about an hour and 15 minutes. It ended up only being around 40 minutes, which was such a nice surprise. We sat at a high top table and it actually worked out perfectly. It was raining the day we went, so we weren't able to enjoy the outdoor space, but the inside still had such a warm and lively vibe. I tried the honey fried chicken sandwich and honestly, words cannot even describe how delicious it was. It was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweetness, and even the salad on the side was superb. You can tell they really care about every part of the plate. We also ordered the eggs Benedict and the French toast and both were amazing. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and just really well done. Overall, such great vibes and incredible food. Next time I would probably make a reservation, especially if the weather is not ideal. We will definitely be back.

Visited Almond & Oak for the first time for a Saturday brunch - we made a reservation and were seated immediately at a cute table by the window. There were available tables outside but the majority of individual and community tables inside were full by 10:30am. We tried the seasonal fruit plate, crab cake Benedict, oysters, scallion corn bread, and steak sandwich. I loved that the fruit bowl wasn't the standard melon/grape/pineapple! The Benedict was good but didn't blow my mind. The oysters were fresh and small, served with lemon and mignonette. Scallion corn bread was good but would not order again. The steak sandwich was the best menu item we got! It was filled with thinly sliced steak on toasted bread with a great salad on the side. The cappuccino was also a highlight for me, the coffee was delicious and so strong!!

Service was fast and friendly. I enjoyed the menu a lot of good selections. Me and my brunch date both had crab cake egg benedicti. I had it with salad. She had it with potatoes. Yeah, it was really good. I enjoyed the ambiance. The kitchen is on display so you can see food being prepared.

Had a great time sitting outside with friends grabbing a drink and some small bites. The waitstaff and host were super attentive and friendly. The indoor space looked amazing, but the warm weather called us all outside. Meatballs were just the right size to keep you full enough to not get drunk from their very good but potent cocktails. Would definitely go back to try some other foods and a few more cocktails.

A couple friends and I hit up the brunch for the first time this weekend, and we had no regrets. We started with the beignets, which we split between the two flavors on offer. Then two of us went with the Benedict (mine with bacon subbed for crab cakes for my shellfish allergy), and we couldn't have been happier with that choice. The hollandaise was unusually excellent, and the eggs were perfectly poached. The friend who got the pozole said it was the tasty, but some additional heat would've made it even better. One note: if you're looking for a quiet place to chat, this is not your spot. The atmosphere is lively and the acoustics are a little tricky for quiet conversations.

Date: Saturday, October 25th, 2025 Time: 11:45am Party of: 3 Meal: Breakfast / Brunch / Lunch Reservation Made Thru: Resy about 2 weeks prior *Mimosa ($14) *Benedict ($22) *Paloma ($14) x3 *GL Rose ($14) x2 *Shrimp & Grits ($21) *Fried Chicken Sandwich ($18) *French Toast ($18) *Mixed Greens ($15) *Mountain Valley Sparkling Water BTL ($7) I was getting together with a few old girlfriends and we decided to meet up in Oakland. (It was kinda the midway point between SF and Lafayette.) Own of my gfs picked this place and made the rezzie. I just had to show up. Parking was pretty easy. I parked in the lot across the street and just paid at the machine. This spot is very cute and boisterous. Kind of a trendy converted warehouse vibe. All dishes were plated nicely and colorful. Note that if you order a main, you probably do not need to add a salad as some of them come with salads. We did not read the menu well apparently cuz we ordered a salad on the side. I adore my greens so it was fine with me. We didn't finish the salads tho. I got the chicken sando. It was crispy and flavorful. We all shared everything, so got to taste a variety of dishes. The benedict had a nice oozy egg. The french toast was creamy and added a nice sweet element. Drinks were fun. I normally like my cocktails more spirit forward. (I got two Palomas.) But I was driving so I didn't mind them being lighter. Fun spot to have brunch in Oakland. Reminds me I should venture out to the East Bay more. REVIEW #3899

Stopped by for Saturday brunch without a reservation. I called the same day and was able to get a table ~ 1.5 hours later. I'd definitely recommend booking on Resy if you can since it gets busy. If you come on a Saturday and end up waiting, there's the Grand Lake Farmers market just a block or two away, which is a nice way to pass the time. The ambiance is cozy and our server was friendly. We ordered a few dishes: - NY Steak Sandwich (subbed mixed greens for fries at no additional cost). This was my favorite dish out of everything ordered. - Benedict - The crab cakes were good, but the biscuit was very hard and a bit too small. It was difficult to eat. - Hot honey fried chicken sandwich - This was tasty but very salty. - Scallion cornbread - I'm a big cornbread fan and loved it with the honey butter. - Fall vegetable hash -- Solid but nothing memorable. I would come back and try their other items especially the French toast and beignets!

We decided to check out Almond & Oak because everyone raved about it, and the food looked amazing! After we went, I was a little bummed that the food wasn't as good as I thought it would be. We got a steak and a burger for our main courses, and burrata for an appetizer. The burrata was fantastic, but the entrees were just okay. I don't think the price is really worth the quality and taste. The steak was a bit bland, and the burger was just like any other. On the bright side, the sides that came with our entrees were great (crispy onions, creamed spinach, and French fries with aioli). The service was pretty good, though. I really appreciated the servers checking in on us a few times and getting our plates and utensils super fast. Still, overall, I probably wouldn't go back here because I think the food is a bit pricey for what you get.

Service was really prompt and friendly. The food was great we ordered all the classics such as the tater tots and the cucumbers, and we also got the salt and pepper wings, and the special mapo tofu. Portions are great and it's definitely a lot of food to share. There are also extensive cocktails on the menu running at $16-$20 each, which is expected for the creativity and expert craftsmanship of each cocktail. They have a large number of cocktails that are special and seasonal, and then their classics on the bottom. I don't think you can go wrong with anything that you try and I love that they have Asian fusion options for the cocktails and savory and sweet. I got one of the seasonal cocktails that was passionfruit forward and it had a nice tart crisp taste that I really enjoyed.

Technically, we got to try it out the week after, but they extended their menu for the week after. We came that Sunday evening. Parking can be a bit of a hassle because it is indeed Downtown Oakland. Your whole party has to get the Restaurant Week Menu. So we all got their: Aperitif Cocktail - Tomato Beef or Purely Passion (Non Alcoholic) I got the Purely Passion. Good, nothing to write home about. Umami Tots This was really good! Very Crispy. Chili Cucumbers This one was actually really good. Szechuan Salt and Pepper Wings Good, but maybe too crispy? Wings are always good but this one didn't stand out for me. Mango Sorbet (They changed this from the Apple Sorbet that day) My favorite of the whole night. I usually don't like sorbet but this one was soft and easy to eat and has like a creamy like texture? Trying this made me want to try their other dessert item. We also ordered 2 add ons - the Hojicha Miso Tiramisu and the Korean Mapo Tofu. Hojicha Miso Tiramisu was OK. It contained too much alcohol for all of us and was bitter. Disappointing. I liked the Mapo Tofu! I liked that it was Crispy and that it came with rice. Drinks wise, my friends also got to try the Tomato Beef and White Rabbit. I don't really drink alcohol so I just sipped a bit. Tomato Beef was too alcoholic for me, couldn't really taste the tomato or the beef, but I could see what White Rabbit was going for. Overall, I'm really impressed by the food. I usually think Bar Food isn't very good, but this blew me away. Drinks are OK.

Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.
