Came here for lunch with a friend at 1 PM on a Saturday. We came 15 minutes late after our reservation because of parking and they were understanding of it. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I discovered Almond & Oak from a foodie on Instagram who was checking out burger spots in Oakland. The burger looked pretty good and I decided to give it a try The restaurant was packed but I was able to get a seat at the bar. I ordered the Brunch Burger and I appreciated the bartender recommendation to get it medium which came out a nice warm pink. But I really enjoyed the scallion cornbread. That was the winner! The waitress recommended the salad on top, and it was great. The hash I killed. It was nice and healthy but satisfying and still flavorful for a super healthy thing. I will say, I think I've discovered I'm not a big fan of celery root, but it was still really good. I almost got the shrimp and grits, but I decided to put it off and save it for next time. We went on a busy day and thought we were going to have to wait long but we got seated pretty quickly. It was nice that day so we chose to sit outside. The service was wonderful! We recently went to Almond & Oak for brunch and had such a great experience. When we got there, we put our name in and were told the wait would be about an hour and 15 minutes. It ended up only being around 40 minutes, which was such a nice surprise. We sat at a high top table and it actually worked out perfectly. It was raining the day we went, so we weren't able to enjoy the outdoor space, but the inside still had such a warm and lively vibe. I tried the honey fried chicken sandwich and honestly, words cannot even describe how delicious it was. It was perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweetness, and even the salad on the side was superb. You can tell they really care about every part of the plate. We also ordered the eggs Benedict and the French toast and both were amazing. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and just really well done. Overall, such great vibes and incredible food. Visited Almond & Oak for the first time for a Saturday brunch - we made a reservation and were seated immediately at a cute table by the window. There were available tables outside but the majority of individual and community tables inside were full by 10:30am. We tried the seasonal fruit plate, crab cake Benedict, oysters, scallion corn bread, and steak sandwich. I loved that the fruit bowl wasn't the standard melon/grape/pineapple! The Benedict was good but didn't blow my mind. The oysters were fresh and small, served with lemon and mignonette. Scallion corn bread was good but would not order again. A couple friends and I hit up the brunch for the first time this weekend, and we had no regrets. We started with the beignets, which we split between the two flavors on offer. Then two of us went with the Benedict (mine with bacon subbed for crab cakes for my shellfish allergy), and we couldn't have been happier with that choice. The hollandaise was unusually excellent, and the eggs were perfectly poached. The friend who got the pozole said it was the tasty, but some additional heat would've made it even better. I adore my greens so it was fine with me. We didn't finish the salads tho. I got the chicken sando. It was crispy and flavorful. We all shared everything, so got to taste a variety of dishes. Stopped by for Saturday brunch without a reservation. I called the same day and was able to get a table ~ 1.5 hours later. I'd definitely recommend booking on Resy if you can since it gets busy. If you come on a Saturday and end up waiting, there's the Grand Lake Farmers market just a block or two away, which is a nice way to pass the time. The ambiance is cozy and our server was friendly. We ordered a few dishes: - NY Steak Sandwich (subbed mixed greens for fries at no additional cost). This was my favorite dish out of everything ordered. - Benedict - The crab cakes were good, but the biscuit was very hard and a bit too small. The service was good, and the atmosphere was lively. That said, the food didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I tried the chicken sandwich it was flavorful but very messy. The steak sandwich was also just okay, again quite messy, and cooked medium rare with a very pink center, which isn't my preference. It was pretty crowded, and it felt like more of a spot people come to for the vibe and drinks rather than the food itself. We decided to check out Almond & Oak because everyone raved about it, and the food looked amazing! After we went, I was a little bummed that the food wasn't as good as I thought it would be. We got a steak and a burger for our main courses, and burrata for an appetizer. The burrata was fantastic, but the entrees were just okay. I don't think the price is really worth the quality and taste. The steak was a bit bland, and the burger was just like any other. On the bright side, the sides that came with our entrees were great (crispy onions, creamed spinach, and French fries with aioli). The service was pretty good, though. I really appreciated the servers checking in on us a few times and getting our plates and utensils super fast. Still, overall, I probably wouldn't go back here because I think the food is a bit pricey for what you get. read more

Their oysters tasted fresh and michelada was refreshing. We did wait quite a bit for the entrees. We were there closer to closing time so that might have been why. The honey chicken was too sweet for me lol The steak sandwich was pretty good, the bottom bread just got too soggy. The place was pretty open and had cute decorations. This was my third time here, and I absolutely love this place. We ordered the eggs Benedict, cornbread, and shrimp and grits, and everything was fantastic -- flavorful, well-executed, and consistently good every time I've visited. The food also comes out quick, which is always a huge plus. I also love how they present the tea -- such a nice touch that makes the experience feel thoughtful and elevated. The restaurant does get loud, so keep that in mind if you're coming with a group or want an easy conversation -- it can be hard to hear at times. The first two visits, the front desk staff were always very kind and welcoming. This third visit, however, our waitress wasn't as attentive and came off a bit rude. Each time I asked for something, it felt like I was inconveniencing her. Maybe she was just having a rough day, but it was noticeable compared to my previous experiences. The boyfriend ordered the oysters (pictured) and he said they were good and I thought they looked nice. I'm not actually a fan of raw oysters so I didn't try them. I was impressed by the non-alcoholic beverage menu. I ordered a NA grapefruit mimosa while boyfriend ordered a NS michelada. My mimosa was delicious but I wish I ordered the michelada instead because that was super refreshing and savory. My main dish was the strawberry rhubarb baked French toast. I'm the kind of person who will almost always order French toast if it's on the menu. This was some super wonderful French toast. It definitely gave me the impression of an extra crispy bread pudding, but also that's exactly how I describe the hypothetical perfect French toast. The boyfriend ordered the eggs Benedict and he was very impressed by the hollandaise sauce! He hasn't been impressed by probably the last three hollandaise's he's ordered at restaurants so this is very high praise. We sat outside and it was a very nice morning so I was happy for the chance to enjoy the weather. The inside of the restaurant was a bit loud, so sitting outside was perfect for me. My friends invited me to Almond & Oak on a Wednesday evening for Happy Hour, and I have to say--it's one of the best deals in the Bay. For just $25, you can order their "Happy Meal," which includes a burger, fries, a beer, and a shot. It's available Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and absolutely worth timing your visit around. The burger is cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served on a house-made pan de mie bun with lettuce and bread-and-butter pickles on the side. The patty is incredibly juicy and well-seasoned, and the bun holds up beautifully without being too dense. I also tried the herbed focaccia from the Happy Hour menu, and it was a steal at $3. You get two thick slices, grilled just enough to add a bit of char. The bread is fluffy with a nice chew, topped with flaky sea salt that gives it a satisfying finish. It comes with a side of fragrant olive oil for dipping--simple but delicious. I'm definitely coming back for Happy Hour. Between the quality of the food and the pricing, it's one of the best midweek treats you'll find. read more

I was really surprised by how disappointing the experience was. We had an 8:15pm appointment on a Saturday night, although we were seated promptly, it was at least 8-10 minutes before we were greeted by our server. He poured water into our glasses then took an inordinate amount of time to check in to see if we wanted drinks.. The burrata was really good, loved the refreshing taste of the peas bursting on the tongue. The steak tartare was okay. The extra focaccia was needed for the burrata due to portion ratio of cheese to carb. For entrees we had 2 chicken panzenellas, they were not the traditional panzenella from what I was told. It had toasted bread versus soaked croutons in a vinegarette. The salad was the best part. Same with the steak, my first bite was pure fat- definitely felt that if the steak is $55, they could have used prime vs choice. The meat was well seasoned with a drier chimichurri. The fingerlings, carrots, bokchoy, and asparagus were really good! Which is funny cuz I normally dislike veggies in general. My brother had a burger because he wanted to do the 'burger test' and it's a little outrageous how they charge for every topping...including $2 for a slice of jack cheese. Overall with 4 entrees, 2 appetizers, 2 alcoholic beverages and one non-alcoholic beverage, we paid $300 and are full of buyers' remorse. The aesthetic of the restaurant was nice but the acoustics were rough, there was a lady about 3 tables away but I felt like her shrieks of laughter was right in my ear. They had beautiful blown glass lamps and an interesting fan-like apparatus above their open kitchen. I'm sure their brunch would be a better experience but I guess I will never know. read more

It was later in the evening so there was no wait for a table and 3 of us were seated immediately. We each had the burger and a margarita. All I can say is that this was one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. Everything about it was perfect - from the bacon being crispy, to the patty and aged cheddar and the fries. From the moment we sat down, our collective experience was wonderful. The service was very attentive and the menu was enjoyed by all of us. Cocktails were tasty and they allowed corkage of some wine that we brought without any issues. The restaurant itself is really nicely laid out with a big space that isn't overly noisy. There's a beautiful bar where you can eat happily as a single as well. The surrounding area has taken a bit of a nosedive along with the rest of Oakland but there is street and paid parking nearby. Be attentive and vigilant as you would anywhere in Oakland these days. All in all, definitely recommended! read more
