The best thing about this place is the people! Everyone was soooo nice and enthusiastic and seemed genuinely pleased to be doing what they are doing. They made good recommendations and were actually curious how we liked our meals. The food was good (Avocado Toast and Breakfast Burrito) and they made scrambled eggs from scratch. Do restaurants do that anymore or is it generally Sysco liquid eggs . Anyway it's a little hippie hole in the wall with a large, pleasant outdoor space. Would definitely go back! read more

Came here to say when I was having a bad day and the kindness of the staff and overall vibes of the eatery definitely lifted my spirits! The inside is small, you order at the counter and can take away or sit in their outdoor area. In good weather it's very pleasant and dogs are allowed. Fun spot, very cottage-core, on an unassuming street. Food takes a little long to come out, but I could tell it was high quality + they make their chips in house. They did also let me know they were understaffed at the time and checked in on me during my wait. Happy to come back and try more menu items, but I believe they're only open a few days a week so make sure to check their schedule before stopping by. read more

The kind of place you leave feeling satisfyingly full having eaten clean healthy delicious ingredients and drank great coffee. The outdoor patio was so peaceful and a lovely place to enjoy breakfast. Delicious and chill with excellent service! I came in around 9:00 am on a Saturday, and it was not busy at all. It's a small café, but there's lots of extra seating outside (though there isn't a ton of shade). I got the biscuit breakfast sandwich, and it was huge! I was invited to lunch with a retiring colleague to Ashby Eatery. He found the reviews here and decided we should give it a shot. WOW, what a great first impression. Imagine if you will, stepping into a quaint eatery with workers all abuzz but yet so friendly you automatically feel welcome and relaxed. The staff were so kind and happy. I had the tri-tip on a baguette that was simply heaven. Tender, juicy, tasty and filling. Homemade chips and quick service.....what more can you ask for. Look, we all have hundreds of places we can spend an arm and a leg for a mediocre meal these days with terrible wait staff and overpriced food. Bag all of that and try out this place. I was invited by a friend to have dinner here and ended up visting again next day for lunch. Food was clean, fresh and delicious. Lots of IPA options with honest prices. Staff and chef were welcoming, friendly, and I even got a hug I tried the fried chicken sandwich with homemade biscuits. Hint of sweet, lots of crunch. Yum. The food really stood out--everything felt thoughtfully made and full of care. You can tell they pay attention to the details. The chicken biscuit sandwich was the highlight for us--perfectly done and something I'd come back for on its own. I sat and waited for about 5 min. After being seated, I was greeted by a server. She asked what I'd like to drink and I said water & then she mentioned that water and cups were at a counter and she pointed to it. I said oh, ok. I then placed my order (sourdough French toast & a side of bacon). I waited for about 10 min and my food came out. Then that was it, I was never checked on to see how things were or if I needed anything. After I was done eating, I was patiently waiting for any server to see if I needed a box. It wasn't until a server tended the table next to me (on both sides) I politely asked for a small box. They sure did quickly bring the bill to me. Sorry I always tip, this time I didn't. I didn't feel I got good service. The place wasn't too busy. The cabin part looked small & I didn't go inside. The place is dog friendly & seems like majority of the seating is outside. I'm guessing since I was by myself and didn't spend a whole lot, maybe that was the reason why I didn't get good service? (The tables around me did). So I guess if you plan on going, bring someone to go with you.

I usually get the chicken and waffles, but he ordered it anyways so I got lucky to be able to still have a few bites. I ordered the "Breakfast" which came with 2 eggs however you want (I got mine over easy), hash browns, toast and either bacon or chicken sausage. I got the chicken sausage. For a drink, I had the Aquatic Park Sunrise. It was good. Not too sweet and strong enough that I wanted another lol My friend just had coffee which the staff made sure to always ask if he wanted refilled. Breakfast came quick. The chicken and waffles is a classic. I always order it when I come. Chicken was thick and juicy. I didn't try the waffle this time since I had my own food to eat (plus I've had it so many times before). This plate comes with either gravy or syrup but definitely pay the extra fee to get both. My dish was simple and delicious. Can't go wrong with eggs, hash browns and sausage. Love coming here and so happy they don't try to switch up anything too much. Came in and didn't have to wait for a table which is not always the case cause it's a busy place. Everyone is always so nice. Great place to come, great service and great food.

Fluffy eggs, but showed up cold last time. Coffee ranks as delicious and the Bubble & Squeeze mimosa is plenty good with OJ. But they offer other fruit flavors as well. It's one of those what's-not-to-like brunch spots where the only issue is consistency. And I would honestly say that it's not very often that they're off. This is definitely one of my top five brunch spots in the East Bay. Great service. Always! Cozy and homey atmosphere with lots of cute decorative touches when you're sitting inside, mostly two tops and four tops, but I think there's at least one table that seats six or eight people. They also a nice patio outside for warm days. 4.5 stars.

My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

The food arrived promptly and looked beautiful! We were incredibly happy with both dishes! The UQBAR Breakfast Platter is great for those whole enjoy grazing/sampling multiple items. I personally loved the eggs and potatoes with hummus! The buckwheat flatbread arrived warmed and paired perfectly with both dishes. Found UQBAR on Yelp. It was bustling but tables opened up outside after I ordered. I did have to wait for a minute or two until the tables were bussed & wiped clean. I ordered the half soup and half sandwich which cost about $15. A surprisingly reasonable price. The mushroom soup was thick and the best I've had in a while. The lamb sandwich was succulent and melted in my mouth. I also ordered their milkshake which is made with coconut milk and a berry which name I don't remember right now. The shake was a nice chilling treat on a sunny day after a week of overcast days. Of course, I enjoyed sunbathing over my leisurely lunch. The only glitch was somehow my order got misplaced. After a long wait, I brought it to the attention of Benjamin the owner and order taker. It turned out that my order somehow got lost on a bustling morning. But Benjamin made good by offering me a full sandwich. It was the best lamb sandwich I've had in Berkeley for a while. Benjamin is a very nice person and didn't try to disguise or excuse the glitch. As I told him, the lamb sandwich was well worth the wait, especially since I was hungry when I first ordered and much much more hungrier because of the wait! To be fair, even in Berkeley venues I've frequented for a long time, this does happen once in a while when things are busy. But from what I can see the staff of UQBAR are typically OTJ. I'll be back to my new fave Berkeley lunch spot. Oh, it was easy parking on a Saturday.
