Sweet Plantain Bowl
Dayna M.

The service was quick, and you can really taste how fresh the ingredients are. I also loved how clean the space was and it reflects in quality and care that goes into the food. On days when I don't feel like cooking but also don't want something heavy or greasy, this is the perfect spot.

My best friend and I came to Kitava for lunch after taking a top rope class at Great Western Power Company. It was very evident that the dishes live up to the restaurant's health-focused marketing. My sesame chicken bowl was pretty light despite the chicken being fried. At most places the chicken would be extra salty but not here. The chicken was actually so mild, it needed the sauce to carry it, and the bowl overall was well-balanced with vegetables, protein, and carbs. I also got a side of crispy cauliflower (not pictured) to share, and it was the best item here. It was perfectly crispy and well-seasoned.

Dining in, the food is fantastic. Bowls are delicious and healthy, service is also good, ambiance is Oakland nice. I'd have dinner with friends or family here or even a date night.

My friends and I stopped by Kativa in Oakland, and I'm so glad we did. I went with the build-your-own bowl, crispy chicken, cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes, and brussels sprouts and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, and I loved that I could customize it exactly how I wanted. The space has a really welcoming vibe with its modern, clean design and friendly staff. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and creating food that's both healthy and satisfying. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Met a friend for dinner and she suggested this place. I was familiar with the area, but never heard of Kitava before. The menu sounded healthy and contained a number of items I enjoy so I was keen to give it a try. I thought parking would be difficult, but it actually was not too bad for a Tuesday evening. And the streets were not terribly busy. It has a corner location which is great and the place is full of windows. Near the entrance are 2 small tables to enjoy a meal in the nice weather we had today. While not a huge place, it felt very open and had ample seating. You place your order and then seat yourself. They do quite a bit of take out, so that was a great sign. I ordered the plantains, brussel sprouts, and their chicken. They infused their water with fruit so I was happy to have that. We sat in the front corner to enjoy the wonderful windows and views outside. Each of my dishes came with their own sauces. And like many people have already mentioned, I liked the ketchup as well. I was very pleased with each of my little dishes. It was the perfect meal. I got my fiber, protein and carbs and I didn't feel guilty eating any of it. I can't wait to come back and try out the rest of the menu.

Came across this place as a Yelp suggestion and decided to have a lunch meeting here. I'm so happy I found this place! It's literally the best place for delicious food, but great lighting and seating options. I had the sweet plantain bowl and added paprika chicken, plus a side of the cauliflower bites. The cauliflower was perfectly crispy. Though it didn't have a sauce on them, they were perfectly seasoned. The dipping sauce was so yummy too! I wanted a bottle of it to take home. My bowl is perfectly balanced, perfectly seasoned and great portion size. My colleague enjoyed her food as well, the only down side to her meal was that it took a bit longer to make but the woman who took our order didn't give us a heads up. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it's something they should either note on the menu or disclose when people are ordering. Other than that, this place is a winner! Food rating Sweet plantain bowl 10/10 Cauliflower bites 10/10 Customer service 8/10 Ambiance 9/10

What an incredible and healthy meal. Everything tasted so fresh and clean but the real star is the seasonal soup! The soup is so good and hearty and has so much flavor. I'm never mad when i decide to dine in. The inside is peaceful, with great music and natural light. The staff is also super nice and helpful!

Tuesday's kids eat free which is nice. Their fries are good too and the ketchup doesn't have a lot of sugar. Service is always nice and they are good about keeping it clean. We like their build your own bowl options. The kids always poach our tuna poke. The plantains are really good also. Nice place to eat healthy without breaking the bank. Kids like the food here too.

They were very kind and welcoming here! I felt like a regular despite never reviewing the menu. Options were given as to how to order from how to read the menu to "we will take suggestions." And order here or go to the QR at the table. A relic of the pandemic, but sometimes you don't want to talk, and that's okay. I got a paprika chicken added Wild Mushroom Bowl... with cauliflower rice. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. Love the cafe environment. I think I could study or spend a few minutes researching something here. Will definitely be back!

I ordered a BYOB online from their website. The food itself was decent. The delivery person asked me to write him a great review, and I told him "sure," (I guess Kitava is partnered with DoorDash?) before realizing that my order came without napkins, utensils, etc. I asked about it, and he just responded "bad restaurant service."

Jazlene T.

Simply nutritious and delicious. Their mission and values are another reason to come back. Everything was served quickly and although it's not the most extravagant food, it all tastes fresh and doesn't leave you feeling bloated or hungry either. It's a perfect balance. I came here after a hike and never felt better. You order up front on the kiosk or counter and they give you a number to bring at the table. You'll get served quickly. They have complimentary water and a utensils station. I haven't tried the drinks but they have some kombucha or other juices. Check out this location or the one in Mission. I'm sure their menu choices aren't that different. Overall, I would come again if I'm in need of a fix without wanting to visit Sweetgreen. Supporting local businesses instead of chains is always better!

Soft Serve: chocolate and maple swirl (they do not give samples, but don't worry it's delicious!)

We had waited about 20-30 mins for a table of 2. We went back inside and there were some tables inside that were wrapping up their meal, but we were called and were given a table outside. My husband asked if we could wait for a table inside and the server said the wait would've been too long. Mind you it was raining, even if there is a covered awning, it was rather cold. About 2 mins later, after we were sat at our table, another group who was not waiting as long as we had, was told they'd be seated inside, just to give them a minute to clean the table. My husband wasn't happy. It is what it is, the place is small and they were just trying to do their best to accommodate the waitlist. Aside from that, service was great. Very nice servers. Food was quick to come to the table and it was piping hot. From where my husband was sitting he could see the owner (he verified it from a server) working hard in the kitchen! Food is worth the price. I wouldn't say it's outrageous pricing, as it's what you would find at other similar restaurants. If you compare this restaurant to Kitchen Story, I believe it out ranks. I had the spicy chicken Benedict, and the only complaint I have is there were too many green onions. That was my fault because I should have asked for it without. I love that you could get breakfast potatoes or tater tots. I obviously got the tater tots, which I did not regret! So crisp and delish! I also ordered the croffle! Never let anyone tell you ice cream isn't for breakfast because this place proves them wrong. Ugh, delish! I didn't eat any of the fruit but my husband said it was really fresh. My husband ordered the Sunday Scrambler and finished the entire plate before I had even finished half of my plate. Pretty sure he liked it, lol. Their coffee was perfect and super hot! The way it should be served. I saw a bunch of different drinks being served, which I look forward to trying over time. Bathroom, clean and didn't smell bad. I highly suggest this place if you're in the area.

Its almost smoky flavor gave it a delightful depth and complexity, making each spoonful both comforting and rich. The prosciutto and sun-dried tomato ragù gave a lovely contrast. For my main course, I went with the ricotta lasagna. A perfect balance of acidity that really brightened the flavors. The layers of cheese, tomato-braised beef, and pork melded together beautifully, easily one of the best lasagnas I've ever tasted. To wrap up my meal, I indulged in the tiramisu. This dessert was an absolute dream! Light and fluffy, it practically melted in my mouth, with perfectly balanced layers of espresso-soaked sponge cake and mascarpone cream. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. This meal was a perfect blend of flavors and comfort, and I highly recommend MAMA to anyone in the area!

We did not appreciate this service at all and it masked our experience and critique of the ambiance. The food was as not bad either -- The lechon lettuce pork wraps were a bit dry, I don't know if the sauce was missing or it was supposed to come with sauce? The best thing on the menu was the Thai tom yum noodles. We placed two orders and scarfed those down. The potato croquettes were fine. Not as memorable as the noodles. The sake also comes in a shot glass. I thought it would come in the typical bottle but it was $8 for a single shot which is a bit pricey. Overall, I wouldn't come here again. Well she wanted your sold out Fish & Chips (which is weird because I think she ate that last night also...?). This was also made-to-order fresh! The chicken had a good crisp until the last bite and was moist inside! Fried perfectly. She also ordered Chili Cheese Fries with that; I guess that is the theme today. Lastly, the soft serve looked so good but too bad it would clash with my beer drinking, lol. To compliment my dinner, or the other way around, lol. Two Pitchers Brewing: 10 of their beers are on tap and the rest are guests' taps. So of course, I had to try their $3 Signature Lager which was too light for me. You basically get what you pay for. Next... Pale Ale - $7, now that's more like it! No IPA today, so I had to settle. My daughter got the Yard Bird, Strawberry Lemonade Beer; it suited her. Ready for my 3rd beer, when my daughter said she wanted to go home and party some more?!?! So I abided. Ambiance - Cool space. Lots of semi private spaces that you can rent. See pictures or their website. Very kid and dog friendly! Unisex restrooms with outside sinks, thank you! NO parking! So bad on a Saturday evening, that we almost did not come. Open 6 days a week. See pictures or their website. Closed on Mondays. Service - Counters service. For both Lovely's and the bar. The outdoor bar is WAY faster service than the inside bar, just an FYI. Same team, but more organized. Price - $49 + generous tip. Including a 3% operations fee/credit card fee, see the small print on the very bottom of the menu. Expensive, even for the Bay Area. But that is the price for quality. 20% gratuity for orders over $250. Owner Comment - Congrats to the building since 1919. Congrats on your success since 2021. Glad we were able to visit. Are you the same owners as Two Pitchers Brewing?
