The ambience here is very nice. I visited this location on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend and it was very busy. It's keto friendly, which was good for him. He really liked his meal and actually went back for seconds a few days later. I ordered the mushroom bowl, the mushrooms were amazing! The sauces are really good as well. I also ordered the cauliflower with the hummus, which was very tasty. Definitely recommend! read more

Our office in Livermore catered a lunch today and though I only had the chicken rice bowl, I'm eager to try other items on the menu! Not only was it delicious, the idea that I don't have to worry about seed oils or unhealthy ingredients is such a relief! I read labels when shopping but almost everything has at least one bad ingredient or it tastes terrible. Please make your meals available for purchase online or in local stores. I'm not sure which location lunch was from but the nearest appears to be Oakland. Love love love. read more

Kitava - Sesame chicken bowl - New American Near Me - Oakland, California

First time the meal was fantastic (I did take away)! 2nd time, we were all underwhelmed. Two of us got the sesame chicken. Rice was mushy and broccoli cold. Dish overall was too salty and wow there were enough sesame seeds to choke a horse and they were all globes in one spot. Chicken itself was great though. I would ordinarily try a restaurant again especially since I'd had one good experience. But today there were no tables available for 3 ppl (lots of single ppl working at larger tables and not eating) so we had to sit on very uncomfortable bar stools at the counter. I couldn't talk to my entire party and my poor mom was so uncomfortable. But what really put a bad taste in our mouth was having to order with a QR code. It takes longer while you navigate the menu on ur phone. I could be talking to my lunch guests but instead I'm playing unpaid waitress. And I was doing this while 3 bored looking employees stood in front of us. Seriously? Give customers the option to use the kiosk or QR code (especially when it's busy or you're doing take away) otherwise it's just rude and lacking in customer service, especially when you're expecting a tip. Even my 30yo nephew was put off by it. Sorry, this is a hard no for me. I'm at a restaurant not a deli or coffee shop. We paid $100 and had ZERO service. Very disappointing. How weird to have employees who don't engage with you. read more

I've been here a handful of times and by far today was the busiest I've ever seen it. Congratulations Kitava! We ordered off the brunch menu and got the gluten free pancakes. It was a bit like mochi texture and we ordered the chocolate sauce on the side. Highly recommend putting the sauce on the side as it's very very rich. We also ordered the Evolved Caesar Salad with a side of crispy chicken. The chicken sadly was so dry! Typically it's always moist so not sure why this batch was incredibly dry. read more

Randomly found this place and did not realize everything was gluten free! There's QR codes on the tables where you can order and pay. I got the brownie and the worker gave this to me so quickly! The taste of the brownie was incredibly dark, i wasnt a fan. However I did like the sweet plantain bowl with crispy chicken. I would try the other signature bowls out next time read more

If you asked me about my favorite lunch spot, I'd recommend Kitava. The space is inviting, the staff has always been welcoming, and the food is delicious. I've worked my way through their menu and my favorite item is their power bowl with a side of chicken nuggets or cauliflower bites. Their seasonal salad and evolved Caesar salad have also made it into my lunch order rotation. Check out Kitava if you're looking for something quick to grab for lunch that's light, but filling. read more

I've been back a couple of times and unfortunately it wasn't as good. The rice was mushy and a bit cold, and it felt bland. I love the concept of this place and will continue to come back and try other dishes. No substitutions as an fyi, even if just swapping out types of greens. The staff is nice and the ordering is easy. It's pricy which make sense if the quality of ingredients is good, but I wish it was a bit more consistent and it hasn't felt worth it lately tbh read more

Easy to love. Peaceful atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good food options. Nothing too fancy but simple and vegan friendly or add meat if you're an omnivore like me. Vegan desserts-- would not reccommend unless you are vegan (the texture is kind gloopy and yet dense on the brownies) . But love the food! read more

Delicious food. Great options for kids and adults. I recommend the bowl with crispy chicken and plantains.

Kitava is a fun and bright restaurant that offers healthy food options that are packed with flavor. I came here with my work team to have a holiday celebration meal. Our team has a few allergy restrictions and this place checked off all of the boxes. The overall vibe is positive and the ambiance is inviting due to the light color notes along with the high ceiling. We ordered some shareable plates that were delicious and filling. The Brussels sprouts dish has a great char on it with a good dipping sauce. We all ordered bowls and kombucha as our main meals. The table ordered poke bowls while I got the sweet plantain bowl with barbacoa beef. My bowl was really good with kale, white rice, plantain and a yummy orange sauce. The beef was stewed just right and really soaked into the rice to marry with all the flavors. The blood orange kombucha was good, subtle flavor but refreshing. Everyone loved their meal and we had a great time catching up outside of work. The service was quick and excellent in general. I appreciated the changing station in the bathroom. Stop by Kitava for a delicious and healthy meal if you're near the MacArthur BART area of Oakland. From a carnivore with picky taste, this place is top notch! Next time I'll try the gluten free beer and some other food options. ^_^ read more

The food tasted amazingly delicious. I had the carrot soup with pepitas, sautéed mushrooms, roasted baby carrots. They had a hibiscus tea that I mixed with their watermelon agua fresca. A very satisfying clean eating lunch. Atmosphere is an open and welcoming concept. The ordering went fast and the food came out very quickly , the food temperature was perfect. I liked Kitava. I went for a work lunch and enjoyed the healthy menu options. This place does healthy bowls and salads. The space is bright, airy and modern. The menu is gluten and dairy free, as well as free of many other additives. In the end, I debated between 3 and 4 stars. It's pricey, but everything is pricey these days - and this spot is healthy. Portions are health minded (read not large) and ingredients are stated to be fresh. I went with a poke bowl and my lunch partner went with the sesame chicken bowl. They were well prepared and good, albeit a bit bland. Not a ton of flavor, but I guess that's what happens when your food isn't covered in salt and sugar. Prices are high, portions will leave you without any leftovers, but everything is relative. They serve kombucha, beer, wine and iced tea/lemonade. Overall, for those with ingredient allergies or being mindful of health, this is an incredible option. I do think there is room for improvement on ways to add more flavor to the bowls to make things a bit more interesting, but still a solid lunch. read more

It was pretty tasty. I made my own bowl- barbacoa, tahini sauce, broccoli, wild rice and sweet potatoes. The ingredients are healthy so pretty basic. The only thing is only because they didn't want to replace the chicken with beef, I had to pay a few dollars more. It would be convenient if we can replace oan item rather than create a whole new bowl which is more expensive. The service was fast. read more

Came here for dinner last night with my partner. We usually get delivery, but my girlfriend and I decided to dine in last night. Big difference in freshness, I must say! They had some new stuff on the menu, like this seasonal rice noodle bowl. Interesting, but a little too tart for my taste. I prefer my noodles savory. You might like it, though! The chicken nuggets? Crispy as usual, but a tad too large and chewy. The homemade ketchup was on point, though. I wish I could bottle that stuff up! But let me tell you about the soft serve. Imagine the best ice cream alternative you've ever had, topped with olive oil and sea salt. Tasted a bit like light coffee. Absolute perfection! I'd eat it every day if I could. And don't even think about leaving without trying that soft serve! read more

I would have given Kitava a higher rating if it was wheelchair accessible. Theoretically, the two bathrooms are ADA compliant. However, one of the bathrooms contains a changing table which blocks access for a power chair user. The second wheelchair bathroom isn't accessible because it's blocked by spare chairs and other items stored there. The annoying thing is that I contacted Kitava a couple of years ago about this, and it seems like The bathrooms are still not accessible. (As an aside, If they are going to use that area as a storage space for chairs, it would make more sense to move the changing table into the second bathroom.) read more

I wish I had some photos because I visited this place a few months ago in Oakland, but I will say I absolutely recommend this place. It is so freaking good. I have been waiting for a place like this to open near me. It's on a quiet location off Broadway, where the search parking is not going to stress you out. There are so many healthy food choices and they taste great. There are choices for kombucha and other beverages on tap; they have cucumber and fruit water. You know it's good when three tables of customers spontaneously start telling each other we all want to order way more food than we know we need and laughing. I brought a colleague who lives nearby, and she kept exclaiming, "How did you find this place?! How did I not know about it?!" Nobody else please come. We enjoyed not having to wait in line for our lunch. read more

Kitava opened in the space that was Magpie/Hog's Apothecary. infrastructure similar. cosmetic upgrades, note: lacking pics due to iCloud download issue.... drill: order, pay at counter, food brought to table. offerings: desserts, drinks, coffee/tea, beer, kombucha, bowls, b.y.o. bowls, small plates, sides, immunity bowls, eats: power bowl (12) marinated mushroom (+5) -marinated mushrooms was tender, tasty, and a small portion. not worthy. -the power bowl was very flavorful with the total ingredients mixed together: "farmer's greens( romaine lettuce?), ancient grain mix, pea hummus, sweet potatoes, avocado, pickled onions, sunflower seeds, green goddess dressing dressing." worthy portion. fab integrated tastes. *gave me an idea how to create my own version at home... 5 stars for the salad, 3 stars for mushrooms...so 4 stars. service 5 stars. A solid restaurant, although nothing spectacular. I recently went here for a weeknight dinner with a couple of friends and built my own bowl with rice, paprika chicken, chickpeas, broccoli, and ponzu sauce. My bowl was OK, although I wish there had been more chicken. The service was a bit on the slow side despite it not being that crowded. read more

Food and service were amazing. Ambiance was delightful. I would definitely come back next time I'm in the area! Highly recommend!

Been wanting to try this spot for the healthy meal options and it didn't disappoint! My mother-in-law law is sensitive to sugar and gluten and we loved that they have a binder they can check for any questions on ingredients, and each of the dishes use simple ingredients to begin with. I ordered at the register but you could sit down and order via QR code. The dishes are mostly vegetarian or vegan so you will need to add protein if desired. We added the herb chicken or the power bowl ($18), which was delicious! Only wish the portion of meat was a little more. The sesame chicken bowl ($14) overall was not bad but the ingredients were just not prepared as listed - the chicken wasn't crispy breading, the broccoli was lightly steamed/barely cooked versus charred, and the rice was wet so it stuck together. My MIL built her own bowl and loved it. They have a cucumber lemon water station available. Def want to try the kombucha on tap next time. We were overall satiated and felt good (healthy haha) after the meal, though felt like the portion could be a tiny bit more considering the price. Could eat this for lunch every day. The vibe inside is so cute! The staff was so nice. Definitely would recommend and be back! read more

Food is amazing. You guys have been a God sent since my daughter's been diagnosed with celiac. She's obsessed with your chicken.

***3.5 Stars*** How about some healthy food options in Oakland?! Of course, we love to see it! Although I'm totally diggin' the healthy and locally sourced concept, I was a bit underwhelmed by the food that I had here. My friends and I tried Kitava when they had their long-time pop-up in Buck Wild Brewing. They've since moved to their own brick and mortar in the Temescal district which is a great step-up for them. I ordered the Cuban bowl which came with jasmine rice, beans, avocado, kale slaw, and a cilantro-mojo sauce. The bowl didn't come with meat, so I added pulled pork for an additional $5. The bowl itself was very fresh and hearty. All of the ingredients were freshly prepared and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the sweet plantains and the citrusy kale slaw. The cilantro-mojo sauce was light and went well with the other elements of the bowl. Where it fell short for me was with the meat. They forgot to add the pulled pork to my bowl initially, but once I let them know, they came back with a side of it for me. The pork was extremely dry and had absolutely no seasoning on it whatsoever. I get that it's just supposed to be added to the bowl, but a little salt and pepper would have been nice. This would be especially helpful since nothing else really had any kind of seasoning on it either. Also for $5, the portion of meat was pretty small. Not sure if this was due to the fact that it was brought out afterward, but I expected it to be a bit heftier. Aside from those minor issues, I did enjoy my bowl. I will definitely be visiting them at their new location and trying out a different bowl. Hopefully the meat won't be so dry and small during my next visit. read more

Really happy to have a place like this in the neighborhood, with healthy, tasty bites in a casual setting. I can come eat here by myself and not feel weird. The space feels sunny and airy. The two different bowls I've tried were both delicious. Service is prompt. Delicious kombucha flavors on tap. Portion size is good - I am actually able to finish it off, but feel quite full (I wouldn't expect to take leftovers home, unless you are a really light eater). It's not cheap, but nothing is anymore. For now, I plan to keep coming back! read more

Happy 2023 Yall!! How many people are doing the resolution thing? Gotta change your eating habits? I got you. Enter Kitava. They're a restaurant specifically for people who are doing paleo, whole30, keto, etc. They have two locations. One in SF and another in Oakland. Today we went to the Oakland location. Parking is a little tricky because theres a lot of residential homes nearby. We ended parking around the corner but we didn't have to walk to far. When we got there we were impressed by the interior. It was very artsy but still very modern. We also liked the the place takes in a lot of natural light. It goes well with the vibe of the place being about more natural ingredients. When we got there we were greeted by a friendly girl who let us know we could sit anywhere. She let us know we could use the QR code to order but they also have paper menus. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl and my g/f ordered the Butternut Squash Curry. We also ordered some Chicken Nuggets. I loved how crispy they were. I found myself dipping them in the curry sauce. My poke bowl was delicious too. That actually was my first time having a poke bowl and I definitely want to try them more now. I felt really refreshing but still very flavorful. The tuna itself was like crack. That ginger ponzu sauce really had me coming back for more and more. The only complaint I had was that my g/f found plastic in her smoothie. At first I thought it was just a vegetable/fruit chunk of some sort because I found something in my sip but just figured. It was when she got another piece in her mouth that she took it out and we found plastic for the 2nd time. I let the girl know and she got us a new one immediately right away. Thankfully the new one had no chunks and tasted just as amazing. I really like this place. Theres a movie theater that we went to 10 mins away from here so in a way we had a little healthy afternoon date together. I really really like that Kitava gives you a lot of food. I was barely able to eat half of my bowl and I definitely couldn't eat a bite more. Im used yo the fact that you gotta pay a little extra to eat healthier but its just nice that you get a lot of grub for your money. read more

I've been a fan of Kitava since the opening of the mission st location. The brownies are ALWAYS my go to and for bowls I really enjoy the mezze harvest bowl with beef add on. I just enjoyed a brunch burrito and omg it was sooo good- I'm glad I took the suggestion of the super sweet blonde gal. Let's talk customer service - I always have a really positive experience with all the staff - they seem really happy and they are always very helpful . The price is a little much but once in a while I like to treat myself ( and more often I sneak by the mission location and pick up one of those brownies) - also the serving sizes are pretty legit .
