Kitava has been my favorite dinner option on uber eats when I lived in SF. I was so happy to see there was one in Oakland after I moved to the east bay and finally tried it out, but the food is WAY saltier at this location. Highly recommend Food is fantastic - delicious, healthy mostly organic at a good price. Friendly staff. You order on a screen as you walk in and a server brings the food to your table. Hot and fresh. Clean and casual, no white tablecloths - nothing fancy but a nice vibe inside and 2 tiny outdoor tables. The food is good and staff is friendly. If you stick with their standard menu, the prices are reasonable. My complaint is that I am a little picky so I did the BYOB, with mostly basic options, and it came out much higher than even the most gourmet bowl they offer. The portions even seemed smaller, which is likely due to selecting fewer options than are included in the standard bowls. They should allow for more of the basic toppings before they start charging extra. I would definitely eat there more. If you aren't too picky though, its fine! read more

I used to love getting the Power Bowl and Brussels sprouts at Buck Wild in Jack London, so I was thrilled to discover that Kitava opened up their own thing at the old Hog's Apothecary spot, with even more bowls and sides to try! I got the Mezze Bowl and a Buck Wild Kölsch. While the food was divine, a parklet or some tables and chairs outside would have made the experience better. The weather was lovely, I came after a weekend hike with two friends and their dogs, and we would have loved to stay and order another beer with our food instead of just doing takeout. Came here recently after driving past numerous times. I was worried their health food focused menu wouldn't have anything to excite me but I couldn't have been more wrong! I made my own bowl and selected a base (Jasmine rice), protein (Herb chicken) and toppings (sweet potato, brussel sprouts and pickled carrots) and it was delicious. We also tried the chicken broth with turmeric, the fried cauliflower and had a non alcoholic beer and everything was great. It's great to dine out and be able to eat healthy. I ordered the Tuna bowl but got cauliflower rice and that rice was seasoned so well. Did not miss 'real rice' The kale salad had so much kick - ginger and garlic The cauliflower sid also a winner Get as many sauces as you can and tip that staff they are AMAZING! Kitava is a trendy spot with build your own bowls and fresh ingredients. The staff was still helpful although we ordered through the kiosk and food came out fast. While enjoyable, I just felt like it was sooo expensive for a bowl, almost $20 if you want to add protein. It might just be the midwesterner in me, but it hurt to pay almost $80 for three people (three bowls and some hummus). read more

Such an awesome place for takeout! The bowls were really good and filling, I had the power bowl and added a pastured egg and it was delicious and perfect. The Brussels were cooked perfectly, I just had to add a side of green goddess for dipping since it only comes with a spicy sauce, and grubhub did not allow any substitutions. They also missed that we checked the box requesting utensils, so we had a bit of a scramble on that as well. Both issues are likely on grubhub's end though, not the restaurant. ** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Gee, I didn't know Kitava opened an East Bay spot at Jack London Square, this time in a simpatico partnership with a gluten-free brewery called Buck Wild - thus the billing in the name. It's a grand idea to have a gluten-free beer with the "clean food" Kitava has been offering in the Mission for the past three-plus years. Alas, the pandemic has robbed us the opportunity to experience first-hand, but I was delighted to see Kitava listed on my food app for delivery. Jamie W. and I were both attracted to the flexibility of the $16 BYO Bowl where you pick your base, your protein, two sides, and a sauce to mix it all together. We both favored the cauliflower rice primarily because it's less guilt inducing and close enough to real rice to cause us to rejoice. We also both went for the free range organic chicken as our protein of choice. Divine. I haven't been this happy in a long time since I became gluten intolerant. I am celiac now. My digestion issues have gotten severe and this is the first restaurant I've gone to where I could order whatever I like in years! So happy!! And the food is excellent. They don't always have fish and chips but they did yesterday! . I've had gluten-free fish and chips four times in four different restaurants and this was absolutely tops. I was also able to have the best dessert I've had ever ...Try their ice cream dessert, which also comes as a sundae and not made with milk. ...It had more flavor than regular ice cream. It was dark chocolate deliciousness. My tummy was so happy when I left there I haven't felt this good in years.. bravo, if only other restaurants would smarten up !!! read more

Came here first time on a Friday for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday, so three of us ordered three plates to share. So so good. I am not vegan or gluten free, but this place was so good. Minus 1/4 star for a piece of hair in our hummus. We ordered the ginger squash curry, sesame chicken bowl and ZA'ATAR CAULIFLOWER & HUMMUS, all of it was delicious and light and healthy. I took the leftover curry sauce home and ate it with some rice for a snack in the afternoon. The service was great and loved the atmosphere. read more

I'd give them 10 stars if I could. One of the few fully gluten-free kitchens in Oakland. I regularly get delivery, and the orders are always packaged well, made correctly, with nothing left out or mixed up. They use high quality ingredients, and the food is always consistent. I'm a fan of their shredded pork, ancient grains, and veggie side dishes. I also love the homemade ketchup that comes with the fries. My only two complaints are: - the side of avocado comes with two teeny tiny slices. I recognize avocado is expensive, but the portion could be more generous. - sometimes the sweet plantains are mealy instead of soft, but that's a factor of it they're in season or not. read more

This is the second time I've written a yelp review, the first time was in 2013. After our experience last night ordering from Kitava (for the very first time) I felt compelled to submit a review. The 5 stars that I gave is an understatement. I think this restaurant should be placed in a separate category that conveys 'EXCELLENCE & BEYOND ONES EXPECTATION'. My husband and I were blown away by the fact that every single dish that we ordered was phenomenal, and we ordered A LOT...hahaha 1. Tuna poke bowl (added pickled onions and carrots) 2. Crispy chicken bowl (added pickled carrots) 3. Brussel Sprouts 4. Crispy cauliflower 5. Marinated mushrooms 6. Kale salad 7. Ancient grains 8. And green olives There wasn't a single item that we would deem as subpar and not consider ordering again. Also, everything was packaged very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size of both the tuna poke bowl and crispy chicken bowl. Finally, our delivery was at our doorstep about 35 minutes after I had placed the DoorDash order, which was another surprising delight. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this restaurant, and even happier that such an exceptional health conscious restaurant exists!! My whole family loves Kitava. It's very nutritious with lots of fresh options and pretty invariably delicious. We usually go several times a month. We like to design our own bowls and usually get the crispy chicken. If I add an extra veggie to the bowl, it's usually enough for two (lighter) meals for me. Also love the vegan soft serve. It's not cheap to eat out here, but it's not outrageous either and everyone leaves happy. read more

much like many restaurants in 2024 kitava leaves much to be desired. after ordering the sesame chicken bowl many times, i just received a bowl of white rice, 7 total pieces of chicken, some broccoli, with what seemed like sesame seeds just dumped into the bowl with no regard for the price of $16. restaurants like this are absolutely careless about price to portions and are taking advantage of their customers. i absolutely will not continue to support places that lack morals anymore. read more

Had a sit down meal at the SF location last fall. I actually enjoyed today's delivery more. They serve sustainable meats: pasture raised, organic and grass fed. Highly recommend the loaded fries - I suggest adding the pulling pork also, juicy fatty bits. Much of the menu would fall under keto, paleo, aip, celiac diets and if not, they can prob tweak it to do so. Love that they don't use industrial oils to cook their food - only evoo, coconut and sustainably sourced palm oil to fry. No added sugars or dairy on the menu. Also highly recommend their tacos - though a bit pricy at $12 for two. And any of their specialty bowls - super fresh and substantial. And maybe since they are neighbors with Belcampo they can partner with them to source their meats?! Food that makes you feel good but still tastes good. None of it will leave you feeling hungry or rushing for a gallon of water. Fresh, flavorful REAL FOOD. Much needed during these pandemic stricken times. I've been in town for 2 days and I've eaten here twice already. My sister and I ordered takeout from here for dinner last night and it was delic. I had the Meze bowl which was flavorful and filling, and we split the brussels which were so tasty with the spicy sauce. Today I was walking around looking for somewhere to eat lunch, and it was close by, looked so cute, had wifi and outlets so I could do some work while I ate! I walked in around 11:15 and it was empty, ordered at the counter and food came out super quick. It was a huge bowl (seemed bigger than the takeout, but could just be presentation). They had cold cucumber water (serve yourself) which was super tasty. I hung and worked here for a little over an hour, and by the time I left almost every table was taken. I just wish they had some more vegetarian protein options (like tofu). read more

Overrated chipotle for crazy prices. I was not impressed by this place. The flavors were not that great and it was way too saucey. It did not feel healthy at all. I felt so groggy and gross afterward. The meat was tender but somewhat flavorless. The texture of the meal just felt like mush covered in sauce. It is very cute and vibey in here but nothing to write home about. It's very trendy but I would not come back again. The people were very nice and it was nice to be able to just order from the table via QR code. It kinda felt like I was in the middle of a neighborhood and this random restaurant was here. Wow this place is good. It's also really nice that they are AIP friendly (Autoimmune Protocol...) Their casava crunchy chicken makes my spouse's mouth water. It's super healthy, and really high quality. The last star though is for deliciousness. Service is great and friendly, and nouveau. It's restaurant food, but in our post-postmates world, they don't overstress sit-down eating like older restaurants. Their open plan is inviting, and makes it super easy for take out and delivery stuff. Sitting down there is more like a cafe style in a sleepier arrondissement of Paris, full of light, a smiling server, and breezy aromas. We love it. read more
