Everything about Kitava is lovely - delicious nourishing food, caring employees, and relaxing comfortable atmosphere! We enjoyed every item ordered (see pic description). I was indecisive about the many flavors of kombucha so a staff person gave us tastings (in THE cutest sampling glasses!) and did not make me feel rushed. I love that everything else you need is available for self service - from the yummy lemon cucumber water to takeout containers. read more

Kitava - BYO Bowl, Sesame Chicken Bowl, Za'atar Cauliflower & Hummus, Plantains - New American Near Me - Oakland, California

This place is fantastic and absolutely worth the drive if you're gluten sensitive or celiac. We've got a celiac kid and we love coming here even though it's far away for us. Great drink selection and everything is delicious. Kids love the fries and nuggets (is that house-made ketchup, too?) and specials are always great (fish and chips recently). I could eat here every night. read more

Kitava - BYOB- wild rice, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, pickles onions, cauliflower tabbouleh, and barbacoa beef. - New American Near Me - Oakland, California

Live from Oakland this is a gem! One day after the gym, I was starving and craving something healthy. I stopped in for their nuggets and wow--they are the bomb.com! I also got some broccoli, seasoned to perfection, and a refreshing smoothie. I tried the cauliflower rice, and while it wasn't my favorite, everything else more than made up for it. This place is fantastic! Conveniently located, it's the perfect stop after a workout. Friendly staff, great options, and a lovely establishment. Definitely my go-to spot for a quick, healthy bite! read more

Grabbed a power bowl with marinated mushrooms and sauce on the side and saved it for lunch the next day. It was so good! The green goddess dressing was perfect on the side and had a perfect balance of flavors! I also had some dressing leftover, so I'm looking forward to adding it to other foods too! I put a soft boiled egg for some extra protein and the dish left me satisfied. I love that they are very transparent with the ingredients used in the bowl. I would definitely come here again for a quick, healthy meal! read more

Kitava - Power Bowl (I cooked the soft boiled egg at home and it was the perfect addition!) so yummy - New American Near Me - Oakland, California

Nice little neighborhood spot that is clean, open, and very chill! There''s limited outdoor seating for folks who brought along their furry friends. It's pretty much a self serve and contactless environment. You scan the QR code, then order and pay on your phone. Staff brings your food to your table. The food comes out fast; is fresh, nicely plated and good. The green goddess sauce, marinated mushrooms, crispy Brussels sprouts and Melon Rose Marin kombucha are my faves! Healthy and tasty... need I say more? read more

Amazing food. Fresh, delicious, healthy and quickly served. First time here and will definitely be back

Great food, loved the power bowl with their custom plant based patty. Tons of vegan options but not entirely vegan. Really nice ambiance.

Kitava is incredible! I'm not even gluten free but I always come here for a healthy, nourishing meal. Their plantain bowl is my go-to order- highly recommend! read more

The establishment is beautiful, but not representative of Oakland's beautiful demographic. I came solely for a poke bowl only to be utterly disappointed by the Americanized options. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, the stand alone item because the options to build the bowl were disappointing to say the least. The rice was mushy jasmine rice, not even sticky rice. The sauce that accompanied with the bowl was an spicy aoli. Very disappointing. If this restaurant is going to culturally appropriate dishes, they should do their research and make homage to the dish. Service was meh. Definitely not coming again. read more

Ice cream is amazing, concept is great. Food was hit or miss. I liked the sauces. Ice cream is dairy free which is great

I was looking for something refreshing and not too heavy... and I found it! I ordered the Power Bowl w/ the beef side and I enjoyed my meal. Presentation: 4.5/5 Taste: 4.5/5 Quality: 4/5 Cost: $$ 3.5/5 (the bowl was priced reasonably but the side was a bit pricey IMO) Ambience: 4/5 (comfortable seating and welcoming environment) Service: 4.5/5 (self-serve for the most part but they bring your food and are very friendly) Parking: 3.5/5 (not much space, need to find street parking) read more

I was immediately greeted when I walked in the door. The young lady at the counter was friendly and helpful. It was my first time at Kitava and she walked me through some of the local favorite foods. The restaurant is clean, stylish, and accomodating. They have cucumber water available to grab on your own and the atmosphere says, "welcome". Yummy healthy food, super friendly staff and good beer selection. Glad I popped in. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Oakland again. read more

I used to love getting the Power Bowl and Brussels sprouts at Buck Wild in Jack London, so I was thrilled to discover that Kitava opened up their own thing at the old Hog's Apothecary spot, with even more bowls and sides to try! I got the Mezze Bowl and a Buck Wild Kölsch. While the food was divine, a parklet or some tables and chairs outside would have made the experience better. The weather was lovely, I came after a weekend hike with two friends and their dogs, and we would have loved to stay and order another beer with our food instead of just doing takeout. Still thrilled that they're in the neighborhood! read more

A lot of great healthy options. Food was fresh and very tasty. I ordered the power bowl and added barbacoa and it was delicious. Would recommend for someone who is trying to find a place that offers healthy food that tastes great. Always great food and service. Our favorite place! The staff are lovely and no matter what we order it is delicious. Highly recommend for anyone, even if you don't eat a specific diet or have allergies. Just good quality ingredients that make you feel good. read more

Came here recently after driving past numerous times. I was worried their health food focused menu wouldn't have anything to excite me but I couldn't have been more wrong! I made my own bowl and selected a base (Jasmine rice), protein (Herb chicken) and toppings (sweet potato, brussel sprouts and pickled carrots) and it was delicious. We also tried the chicken broth with turmeric, the fried cauliflower and had a non alcoholic beer and everything was great. It's great to dine out and be able to eat healthy. I will absolutely be back! read more

** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Gee, I didn't know Kitava opened an East Bay spot at Jack London Square, this time in a simpatico partnership with a gluten-free brewery called Buck Wild - thus the billing in the name. It's a grand idea to have a gluten-free beer with the "clean food" Kitava has been offering in the Mission for the past three-plus years. Alas, the pandemic has robbed us the opportunity to experience first-hand, but I was delighted to see Kitava listed on my food app for delivery. Jamie W. and I were both attracted to the flexibility of the $16 BYO Bowl where you pick your base, your protein, two sides, and a sauce to mix it all together. We both favored the cauliflower rice primarily because it's less guilt inducing and close enough to real rice to cause us to rejoice. We also both went for the free range organic chicken as our protein of choice. Jamie then veered left by adding the kale slaw and broccoli florets with the tahini dill dressing on the side (photo: https://bit.ly/3tz9wxe). A healthily delicious combination of flavors. I veered right (not politically, of course) and went for the Brussels sprouts and garlicky greens with the chimichurri sauce on the side. Then I took a hairpin turn and ordered a $4 side of Plantains which the preparers surreptitiously placed in my bowl without asking (photo: https://bit.ly/3jnGRGF). Adding a welcome note of natural sweetness, it was fortunate they selected my bowl for this presumptive act because had they ended up in Jamie's bowl, there would've been an outbreak of civil war that would require somebody to "stand down and stand by". FOOD - 4 stars...organic bowls with the right combination of flavors AMBIANCE - n/a...looking forward to experiencing the brewpub directly SERVICE - 4 stars...despite the plantain misstep, I was pleased TOTAL - 4 stars...Kitava lands in the East Bay...good move RELATED - Exploring Oakland? This place is EVERYTHING I love and miss about the bay area. GF and Delish. So much transparency around ingredients if you so desire and most important - the food is SO flavorful and good. I ordered the Tuna bowl but got cauliflower rice and that rice was seasoned so well. Did not miss 'real rice' The kale salad had so much kick - ginger and garlic The cauliflower sid also a winner Get as many sauces as you can and tip that staff they are AMAZING! Another bonus (I got my food to go) was the ambiance and the lemon cucumber water available to sip on. PS sorry no photos I was too busy eating. read more

Not good. Too much hype not enough proof they are what they say. Felts oily and made me sick and the staff was very blah. Too expensive for greasy trash imo. Feel free to roll the dice read more

Wow, for "fast casual" this is a great option at $15-20 per bowl! I was impressed that almost all of the 25 bowls we got were still warm when DoorDash arrived. I'm sure my group will be ordering here again. I got a rice bowl, and I particularly liked the plantains, and sweet potatoes. read more

Love this place. Usually checks all the boxes for flavor and options and also healthy choices at a good price. I also love that they have a very intricate nutrition facts menu on their website. So important. That's why I'm so bummed that this is the $2 worth of avocado that they gave me. A sliver. That's all. read more

Kitava - New American Near Me - Oakland, California

Kitava has been my favorite dinner option on uber eats when I lived in SF. I was so happy to see there was one in Oakland after I moved to the east bay and finally tried it out, but the food is WAY saltier at this location. The crispy chicken was extremely salted as well as the ranch for the cauliflower bites. read more

I am GF and Dairy Free....Best and most nutritious meal I have had in a long time. Also the best soft serve roasted Cashew anywhere.

Had a sit down meal at the SF location last fall. I actually enjoyed today's delivery more. They serve sustainable meats: pasture raised, organic and grass fed. Highly recommend the loaded fries - I suggest adding the pulling pork also, juicy fatty bits. Much of the menu would fall under keto, paleo, aip, celiac diets and if not, they can prob tweak it to do so. Love that they don't use industrial oils to cook their food - only evoo, coconut and sustainably sourced palm oil to fry. No added sugars or dairy on the menu. Also highly recommend their tacos - though a bit pricy at $12 for two. And any of their specialty bowls - super fresh and substantial. And maybe since they are neighbors with Belcampo they can partner with them to source their meats?! Food that makes you feel good but still tastes good. None of it will leave you feeling hungry or rushing for a gallon of water. Fresh, flavorful REAL FOOD. Much needed during these pandemic stricken times. Looking forward to visiting one day - hopefully have a Belgian style beer with the eats. And for now, I have a new immune boosting delivery spot! read more

Such an awesome place for takeout! The bowls were really good and filling, I had the power bowl and added a pastured egg and it was delicious and perfect. The Brussels were cooked perfectly, I just had to add a side of green goddess for dipping since it only comes with a spicy sauce, and grubhub did not allow any substitutions. They also missed that we checked the box requesting utensils, so we had a bit of a scramble on that as well. Both issues are likely on grubhub's end though, not the restaurant. Would definitely get takeout from here again. read more

Divine. I haven't been this happy in a long time since I became gluten intolerant. I am celiac now. My digestion issues have gotten severe and this is the first restaurant I've gone to where I could order whatever I like in years! So happy!! And the food is excellent. They don't always have fish and chips but they did yesterday! . I've had gluten-free fish and chips four times in four different restaurants and this was absolutely tops. I was also able to have the best dessert I've had ever ...Try their ice cream dessert, which also comes as a sundae and not made with milk. ...It had more flavor than regular ice cream. It was dark chocolate deliciousness. My tummy was so happy when I left there I haven't felt this good in years.. bravo, if only other restaurants would smarten up !!! read more

Came here first time on a Friday for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday, so three of us ordered three plates to share. So so good. I am not vegan or gluten free, but this place was so good. Minus 1/4 star for a piece of hair in our hummus. We ordered the ginger squash curry, sesame chicken bowl and ZA'ATAR CAULIFLOWER & HUMMUS, all of it was delicious and light and healthy. I took the leftover curry sauce home and ate it with some rice for a snack in the afternoon. The service was great and loved the atmosphere. read more

I'd give them 10 stars if I could. One of the few fully gluten-free kitchens in Oakland. I regularly get delivery, and the orders are always packaged well, made correctly, with nothing left out or mixed up. They use high quality ingredients, and the food is always consistent. I'm a fan of their shredded pork, ancient grains, and veggie side dishes. I also love the homemade ketchup that comes with the fries. My only two complaints are: - the side of avocado comes with two teeny tiny slices. I recognize avocado is expensive, but the portion could be more generous. - sometimes the sweet plantains are mealy instead of soft, but that's a factor of it they're in season or not. read more

This is the second time I've written a yelp review, the first time was in 2013. After our experience last night ordering from Kitava (for the very first time) I felt compelled to submit a review. The 5 stars that I gave is an understatement. I think this restaurant should be placed in a separate category that conveys 'EXCELLENCE & BEYOND ONES EXPECTATION'. My husband and I were blown away by the fact that every single dish that we ordered was phenomenal, and we ordered A LOT...hahaha 1. Tuna poke bowl (added pickled onions and carrots) 2. Crispy chicken bowl (added pickled carrots) 3. Brussel Sprouts 4. Crispy cauliflower 5. Marinated mushrooms 6. Kale salad 7. Ancient grains 8. And green olives There wasn't a single item that we would deem as subpar and not consider ordering again. Also, everything was packaged very well. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size of both the tuna poke bowl and crispy chicken bowl. Finally, our delivery was at our doorstep about 35 minutes after I had placed the DoorDash order, which was another surprising delight. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this restaurant, and even happier that such an exceptional health conscious restaurant exists!! The staff at Kitava will soon come to recognize my name with all the future orders they'll receive from me. : ) read more

Highly recommend Food is fantastic - delicious, healthy mostly organic at a good price. Friendly staff. You order on a screen as you walk in and a server brings the food to your table. Hot and fresh. Clean and casual, no white tablecloths - nothing fancy but a nice vibe inside and 2 tiny outdoor tables. Lots of car break-ins in Oakland these days so for safety, the staff advises parking around the corner as opposed to on 40th. I've been there many times day or night without a problem. read more
