Stopped in for brunch with a friend. Service was fast, the restaurant was clean, and it was all about cozy with the flaky Roti Comfort (Tofu) and drip coffee in a diner mug.
Came for lunch around 1:45pm with a friend, restaurant was pretty busy most tables were taken but we were able to place our order and grabbed a spot. Food: Plain Roti - great, nice crispy pan fried exterior with great flaky pull apart layers, slightly chewy interior, the pumpkin yellow curry dipping sauce was the perfect pairing, savory, mild coconut flavor with a hint of spice Kale Tea Leaf Salad - good, solid portion size, great variety of textures, nutty, savory, with a slight funky fermented tea leaf dressing, kale was pretty tender and shredded cabbage added a crispy freshness Garlic Noodles with Chicken - good, chicken was tender and well prepared, noodles had a nice bouncy chewy texture, nice pleasant garlic flavor, came with a generous amount of sambal which added a nice heat Service was good, quick and attentive, casual order at the counter and food is brought to your seat when ready. Water was self serve, utensils and plates were brought to out seats after we ordered. Food was well placed and fairly quick. Overall really enjoyed the meal at Aman, food was solid a great spot for a casual lunch, the roti really is the star definitely make sure you order one when you visit.
Malay roti at Aman Cafe is such a star! There's not many Oakland Malaysian spots, so when my girls and I had a free weekday lunch we ran over to check them out. The shop is located on busy Broadway, but if you park one street over/by the homes, you snag free street parking! They allow well-behaved small dogs, saw the cutest doodle at the next table. The menu is easy to read and I knew right away I wanted a savory roti and their mango lassi. The mango lassi was THICC gurl. It was refreshing, but know that it's rich honey. Vibrancy and flavor is the name of Malaysian dining. I love how low-key it is, and family friendly. We brought a little to our table, and she had lots of fun people watching. The garlic noodles looked yum too, got a lil spice to it, but the roti was the ultimate item to get. The sweet roti was a hit with the little, and she enjoyed her fruit and berries. The ambiance could do with a little more oomph though. Maybe some Malay music overhead? Or some fans/AC? The restroom is clean and a unisex stall, and I love that we have to bus our own plates. We love responsible dining. Can't wait to come back to Aman Cafe, highly recommend.

Cool little spot! I got the roti with fruit and it was delish! They had all the fresh fruits I love on top of the roti like blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. It didn't taste too sweet and I'd totally come back to try the savory roti.

Came here for a lunch to celebrate one of my friend's birthday around 12PM, and this place was popping off. There was a person at almost every table. The place is free seating ,but luckily, they were able to accommodate our group of 7 after reshuffling tables and asking people if they didn't mind moving. Parking was a little bit of a struggle to find around the cafe; but, we ended up finding some a couple of blocks down. The location is a little hidden, and we ended up accidentally walking past it at first. However, just pay attention to the signage above to find it. The place gets a lot of open sunlight and the inside has a nice interior with black wood accents and wooden tables. The place is less lit since the sunlight compensates for a lot of the light. For this place, you need to order from the front register, and they have plenty of menus to look at. The menu is broken down into savory, sweet and noodles/ rice dish categories and has a good amount of vegetarian options. A majority of the group ended up going with the Roti Comfort w/ Chicken, since most of us were craving a more meat-oriented dish. And this dish was absolutely delicious. The roti (which was nice and crispy) and the sauce they provided to accompany the chicken was flavorful and worth the try, leaving us wanting more to eat. I think this place is definitely a place I would frequent. My friends and I agreed that we would come back solely just to eat that dish again. This place has a very good rating on Yelp, and now I understand why after dining here.

This place offers really good roti if you are looking for a decent roti spot! I ordered the Roti comfort with chicken which came with roti, a small saucepan of curry, and small dish of chicken, mixed veggies, and a side avocado in a flavorful curry sauce. This dish is pretty filling and felt a bit heavy as I continued eating and you can split it into 2 meals if you want. I would've wanted a bigger portion of the meat and vegetables in the curry sauce with the amount of roti I got.
Excellent vegan and vegetarian food! We ordered roti and it was a very filling and satisfying meal. I would absolutely eat here again without hesitation. Service was excellent as well as the ambiance.
Aman Cafe is a cute cafe that serves surprisingly delicious food! I came here for lunch and was very impressed by both the quality and quantity of food. Definitely planning to come back and try some of their other dishes :)
The food here is DELICIOUS!!! Great bold flavor and the roti was crispy and flaky. At this restaurant, you order at the cashier first and then the food is brought to your table. Almost every table was taken at 1PM on a Saturday so it might be harder to find a table during peak hours The service was also very fast, I think our food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The chicken and potatoes rice bowl was much spicier than the roti comfort, but both were really tasty. I will definitely be back!
I wanted to go to Teni East Kitchen but it was closed on a Sunday grrrr. Luckily, their sister restaurant was open so we popped in. I ordered the breakfast roti, pea shoot salad (which I'd seen on the menu at Teni), and garlic noodles with shrimp. Total before tip came out to around $50. Breakfast roti - 4/5. Super flaky and soft. Comes with curry and a stir fried breakfast situation with tempeh and carrots, topped with egg and a teeny slice of avocado. This is my first time ordering a dish with avocado and only getting a slice... usually they at least give me a half but it seems we need to cut costs where we can. Pea shoot salad - 3/5. This salad was way too salty and there was so much dressing that it turned the pea shoots slimy. If they went lighter on the dressing I think it would taste so much better. Garlic noodles - 4/5. These were a great texture, and coated in sauce. We paid $2 extra for shrimp and got about 6 shrimp. This is a casual spot to stop in. Food comes out pretty fast. You bus everything yourself.

Be careful of the tea grounds in the thai tea. See picture for the black specs. Not appealing. Yelp led us wrong, so wrong on this one. Flavorless garlic noodles. Seriously these garlic noodles were flavorless and slimy and a waste of money. The side roti and extra cost for the dip at around $10 was a meh. They added black seeds to the roti which I dislike but didn't want them to take back because I didn't want them to throw it away and waste food. This was like a $35 meal and was NOT worth it at all. Would never come back...and I say this knowing that I love Thai Tea and roti but both are lacking. read more
Strolling downtown Oakland looking for a yummy brunch/lunch spot, we came upon Aman Cafe and were extremely surprised by such an awesome, hidden-gem find! Traveling recently to Thailand, I fell in love with roti (flatbread) that can be used as a sweet or savory base for any meal. Aman Cafe specializes in rotis of all kinds, all day, plus a fun menu of salads, noodles, rice bowls, and drink specialties including coffees, smoothies, and more. Honestly, we were in roti heaven! I went with Roti Comfort (crispy roti with an array of freshly cooked vegetables like carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, and string beans with chicken and avocado in a creamy, coconut sauce). The pairing together with the roti and a little side of chili oil was so comforting, truly hitting the mark! My husband ordered the garlic noodles with chicken and that dish was equally a burst of freshness and flavor with every bite. I loved the overall vibe of this spot (super clean and inviting) and watching others try roti dishes of all kinds for the first time together. The staff is helpful in explaining the menu and guiding you to top choices based on what you're craving/feeling. I would def. come back to try a sweet roti with fruit and condensed milk, and maybe even a breakfast roti topped with meat and an egg! To note: there are also vegan/vegetarian options here, something truly for everyone! Value, accessibility, innovation, and street parking have me sold for Aman Cafe ~ thank you for bringing something different and equally delicious to Oakland! read more

Spicy when supposedly mild. A slop of unbalanced sausages to vegetables, sauce just doesn't taste good either. Roti bread is too thick, like eating layered brick bread. Not the roti I normally would expect. Service was ok Matcha has way too much ice for the price read more

I had ordered the roti comfort with chicken, garlic noodles with shrimp and fresh squeezed orange juice. The food took a little to come out. The orange juice took the longest and it was really sour. The roti comfort with chicken was delicious and was enough to feed two people. I loved the small curry on the side. I was so disappointed with the garlic noodles, it looked so pretty but it had no flavor. This is a really cute cafe and a great place to grab coffee with friends. read more

Aman cafe is a MUST hit every time I go to Norcal, specifically the Berkeley/Oakland area. Amon cafe is serving some of the best roti in the area. I've been here twice now and each time I can't wait to come back and experience it again. Service/Ambiance: The interior of the restaurant is sleek, clean, and pretty minimal. I like that everything seems organized and aesthetic, especially the coffee station and ordering counter. Whoever is doing the decor has great taste! I like that the restaurant gets a lot of natural light. The service here is usually good so no complaints. Note: One thing to be aware of is that the hours are a bit weird they only open for about five hours so just look at the time and dates. Apparently they close on Tuesdays. Food Consensus: My favorite is the roti comfort with chicken. Absolute 10/10. The roti is buttery, flaky, and comes out nice and hot. It's everything you could want and more!! The veggies and chicken with that sauce and avocado is just pure bliss. The creamy potatoes, mushrooms, carrots and chicken just work so well together with that roti. I like that they give you a side of that coconut sauce to have with everything and I like that there are two pieces of orange as a kind of dessert or refresher. My sister who is pescatarian had the root garden and she really liked it. She let me try some of the green onion roti and it was chefs kiss. Next time I plan on getting the roti breakfast and some type of roti dessert. This place deserves so much more hype and attention because it's seriously the bomb. Stopped into Aman Cafe on a Sunday afternoon and immediately found a seat--always a good start. I ordered the Roti Comfort with chicken and a coffee, and wow... no notes. The entire meal was flavor-packed and deeply satisfying. Every bite was well-seasoned, hearty, and exactly what I was hoping for. Great atmosphere, smooth service, and incredible food. 10/10. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the area! read more
Came to Aman Cafe on a whim and really impressed! You order at the counter and then grab a seat before the staff brings out your trays. Beware fingers, that food comes out HOT. Honestly though, I couldn't wait and just had to tear into the roti. It was SO FLAKEY and there were SO MANY LAYERS! They also give you just a little extra pot of curry on the side which was very much appreciated! I went with the roti comfort plate which is a vegetarian curry. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and still had a bit of bite. I liked the mix of mushrooms, fried tofu, carrots, and parsnips. The bursts of fresh spring onions was also really quite tasty! My plate was $14.99 before tax and tip and it was very filling. There was also no rush while eating so I just enjoyed my solo date sitting by the window and enjoying my meal. I would happily come back to try more of the menu! read more

The service was incredible, very considerate staff! We got great recommendations as first time customers. The food was so comforting and really flavorful. The drinks were great as well! I don't think their menu has any misses. The inside was clean and it felt both laid back and nice! read more

Aman Cafe is a cool place to go when you want a modern yet international breakfast or lunch in a hip location. First of all they are a first class coffee shop serving an excellent brew, but they also serve Indian style Roti served American style with savory or sweet toppings, much as you might enjoy a crepe in an upscale American / French breakfast joint. They also serve a delicious garlic noodle lunch, with your choice of chicken, tofu or shrimp. The noodles are delicious with just the perfect texture. You can accompany this with a Mango Lassi or from a choice of other smoothie type drinks. The interior is impeccable and modern with progressive music featuring catchy beats. The service is also excellent, friendly and prompt. They have a good Internet connection and is a good place to settle down to do some work. I was excited to find this interesting and unique location and highly recommend giving the place a try. read more

What is the vegan meat made of? Is it housemade or is it a specific brand?
We went today, Saturday at 10 am and they were closed. Wish they would update their hours. The sign on the door even said they open end at 10...?
Is the roti itself vegan?
What are the hours of operation? Yelp says 8-3 but I went Tuesday around 9 and they weren't open, and I drove by them on a Thursday around 4 and they were still open. I'm excited to try this place!
I think it opens at 10, I went on a Saturday. Probably needs to be updated.
