This spot is such a fun vibe! Great love DJ, amazing food/drinks and service was great! We got a few things to share and dined family style so we can try a little bit of everything. I can't recommend if enough because the food was phenomenal! Our favorites were for sure the beef carpaccio, chicken wings and blackened catfish! Bone marrow was good just wasn't for me, garlic prawns were decent but wasn't too flavorful. I'd come back a thousand times for the blackened catfish and beef carpaccio. Wow What an adventure! MUA has set the stage for all of the yummy food I expect to have in Oakland! Such a great place as my first eatery as a new bay area resident. Arrived on time for my 8:00pm reservation and while people were definitely in ther having a good time, it was a quieter evening. Which was great since I really got to soak in the ambiance of this place. Incredible art lined the walls (very basquiat-esque), great chill music, tons of decor and huge giant mirrors in the back of the place to make it look much bigger. Low lights and calm energy also, definitely my favorite kind of restaurant vibes. To start off, i, of course had to grab a cocktail. I started off with the Crazy Pisco which was great! Super smooth, a little sour, and delicious. For food, we had such a great few dishes to share: Beef Carpaccio - This was so good! I'm a huge lover of any kind of carpaccio so this one hit all of the cylinders for me. Thinly sliced and yummy with an arugula salad to pair it with. Delicious! Mushroom Crostini - I am so happy I am a fully formed adult who got over her hatred of mushrooms because this was too good! What can I say...Yummy mushrooms, crispy bread, and a delicious sauce. I was a happy camper! This also had some arugula paired with it. Chicken Wings - These were the fan favorite of the bunch! Give me a chicken wing with some great sauce and im your forever. Yummy, sweet sticky sauce baked into some great chicken wings. We fought over a few pieces for sure. Bone Marrow - Simple, delicious, fatty, yummy. I hadn't been to Mua in over 7 years! That fact alone made me marvel at Mua's staying power against a highly volatile Oakland restaurant backdrop. The space is still massive and the drinks are still great. But, I was actually blown away by the burger which I don't exactly remember being so damn good. Don't know how this place gets only a 3.9 rating. MUA is MUA! Food is always delicious from calamari to salmon to catfish! And the drinks are amazing. I have never had a bad drink yet. 7/19/25 We finally got to try Mua in Oakland! It's been bookmarked for a few years. I would describe Mua as a very trendy restaurant and bar with a unique, artistic, and warehouse lofty atmosphere. They have a good menu and pours even better cocktails. Our server Juliana was nice and attentive as needed for our party of 12 with kids. We shared the Beef Bone Marrow. Came with toasted slices of baguette. Looked really good but got cold way too quick and there wasn't enough baguette for the very thick marrow served. Also ordered Brussel sprouts to share which was ok. I ordered the fried chicken which was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Served with cornbread and coleslaw but we opted for fries. Hubs ordered the salmon served on top of spinach, bacon and tomato - hubs said the spinach (salad?) was too tart for his preference. Oldest son ordered burrata which was served with grilled veggies and baguette. He said it was really good. Youngest son ordered the blackened catfish with dirty rice and aioli. He said it has too much aioli spread on the catfish but otherwise he really liked his meal. Chicken Milanese was bomb. I shared some chicken and fries with a girlfriend of mine and she shared the Milanese. If I came back, it would be my go too. We'd be back if in the area. We recently were looking for something new and exciting for a Valentines date, .Wifey and I are always doing the same routine in the East Bay area of Walnut Creek, Danville, and Lafayette area. We had been to this establishment a while back and it was summer evening for a Birthday celebration. Pre pandemic but I was looking for a place with a Bar and a nice atmosphere . Luckily I had made reservation a week prior because it was a bit crowded. We had a bit trouble parking but found a nearby garage. I had arrived on time but the wait it was running a little behind. We slid into the Bar for a Whiskey Sour and a Rita. The Bartender was attentive and they had a good vibe. Our table was ready pretty shortly and we started with the Calamari appetizer. We had a very friendly Server and she was very personable. We had ordered a Chicken Miliansa and a Blacken Catfish. Both dishes were great and the rice pilaf was perfect. When it came to desserts, we opted out for another spot but definitely worth the drive from Wc area. Music, vibe and food ultimately made it a special Valentines date. read more

I joined a friend here for a girls night and we had a great time. We stopped by on a Friday night, after work, and thankfully we were seated immediately. Our server wasn't the greatest, however. He actually sucked. Perhaps it was toward the end of his shift, but he wasn't really that friendly and spoke to us in a hurried tone. He didn't smile, and only checked on us once during our meal. We noticed other servers were checking on their tables periodically, and we were getting a little annoyed, because we wanted round 2 for our drinks. He also wasn't helpful at all, when we asked for recommendations. After we grabbed the check, we sat for a while longer, finishing off our drinks, when another server stopped by the table and asked us to sign for our meals. Ummm, we already took care of that. She was nice, informed us our server left for the night, and told us she would check for our signed receipts. But, nope, she couldn't locate them. Again, weird. I mean, I understand you're ready to get home, but you could've said goodnight and ensured that our signed receipts were accounted for. The food was okay....and with the service, I wont be going back. Visited MUA recently for the first time. Nearly missed it because the front room was dark, and it looked closed, but we made it to the door and saw the main part of the restaurant was in back of the building. Great decor. We immediately struck by the lighting and creativity in the spaces decoration. You enter through the "bar", but it creates intrigue. The main dining room is in a large warehouse type space, that also includes a loft with it's own bar. We had a reservation, and were quickly seated. We started with cocktails, which were interesting and well crafted. Since we were a small group, we did things family-style so we could explore the menu. We had chicken liver pate, burrata, "cheeseless" mac and cheese (butternut squash and shells), and a charred romaine salad to start, and then shared the rib eye steak, mussells, and a couple of other dishes. All were well prepared, served promptly, and delicious. Everyone enjoyed every bite as best I could tell. We finished with coffees and desert. We tried the bread pudding which was amazing - several people commented that may have been the best they had ever had, as well as the pineapple upsidedown cake - which was also quite tasty and well balanced. Overall we enjoyed our experience quite a lot! MUA has a lively atmosphere, great food and drinks, and great service. Well worth a visit if you are in the area! read more

The no cheese Mac and cheese is delicious and made w/ butternut squash. Perfectly seasoned and crisp brussels sprouts makes it easy to be healthy. This is my favorite restaurant in Oakland! The restaurant is in a warehouse style building with Basquiat style art. They have a DJ on weekends and the genre varies. Overall it's a very Oakland vibe. The service is generally good, though they can get very busy. I recommend reservations for Friday and Saturday nights. All the food and drinks are delicious! The food options are a variety of cuisines, you can come here different and have a completely different style meal, and yet all the dishes pair well together. Whenever I come, I always get the no cheese mac n cheese. It sounds strange, but it's amazing. My favorite drink is the Billie Jean. The baby pickles that came on the side were super vinegary but I still enjoyed the bone marrow -- very soft & buttery! & SO much. Did not skimp out! The 1lb ribeye was SOOO good & so filling!! I think the dish that really blew my mind was the no cheese mac & cheese, which was made with butternut squash. Every time we bring friends here to try this they are amazed. MANAGER ON DUTY (4/18 - evening shift) REFUSES TO ACCOMMODATE FOOD ALLERGIES!! We ordered the Caesar salad, assuming like most places that the dressing was jarred or at least not made in-house with anchovies. Typically, when most restaurants make it in-house, it's clearly stated in their menu. This was not the case here. When I took a bite, I immediately realized it had anchovies in it--something my friend is allergic to. I told her not to eat it, and we let the staff know right away. Instead of being understanding, the manager refused to replace it with something else because it was "half eaten." I had literally taken one bite and told my friend not to touch it. When I pointed that out, the manager snarkily said, "We don't do samples here." I've never felt so insulted. We weren't trying to sample anything--we just wanted a replacement so my friend could have something to eat without risking an allergic reaction. The complete lack of empathy or willingness to accommodate a food allergy was honestly shocking and incredibly disappointing. We won't be coming back. It's too bad because I liked it here, but can't support a business who treats customers like this. I should also mention that the fries were soggy and cold, and the tofu wasn't crispy. We didn't complain about those items, cause we ain't out here "asking for samples" SMH. read more

Came here without reservation right before going to Usher's concert. Place was so cute and actually pretty big,they have some seating outdoor and also upstairs. We did not realize how busy this place can get,host said to try to grab seats at the bar and lucky for us we got lucky and found two. The bar served everything on the menu. We ordered fried calamari for appetizers and we trued their ribeye served with french fries and loved it. Our bartender David made us some awesome drinks that was not on the menu and it was our favorite called naked and famous it was so delicious. My husband and I got a night out without our toddler! I knew Mua as an Oakland staple and after reading more and a menu once over, seemed like the perfect date night spot. Did not disappoint! The vibe was fun! Romantic, soft lighting, almost dark. Live DJ spinning on the atrium second level. Service was friendly and attentive from beginning to end. Cocktails were fun and fresh! We shared plates and enjoyed everything. Well spiced and seasoned, each dish packed unique flavor. The real highlight though were the pork spare ribs... The meat was fall off the bone tender but had a nice charred crisp you still had to cut through. The sauce had a mole quality. It was thick, heavily savory spiced but sweet and bright with cinnamon and herbs. Left a comforting coat in your mouth. I'd love to know for how long and how low they cook these for! Absolutely yum! The service was incredibly slow. The entire time we felt ignored and the guests next to us who arrived later were helped far before we were. Our server Mona barely checked in on us and we had to call her over just to order our food. Our reservation was at 5:15 and we left around 7:15 which of the majority of that time we spent waiting on our food. Once we got our food I found a BUG in the chicken 1/4 of the way into my meal. Our server Mona asked us "what do you want me to do about it" which was in an interesting tone and thankfully offered to take it off the bill and apologized. So back in the day prior to being on Yelp we stopped in here all the time after work which was close by. Hey, no judgement, when you work in finance and IT you need a break from the day. After dropping in here after prolly 5 years it was nice to see some things haven't changed. We may have sat in the dining room once or twice but usually at the bar. The drinks are always great and the food choices work for us. Since I usually drink tequila I'm easy. My partner gets stuff more complicated but always perfect. Great vibe. The vibe and space is amazing! They even have a room for private events. Loved the artwork and the staff there! The food was decent but sometimes hit or miss. The Brussels sprouts for us just were not seasoned enough and not crispy enough. The wings were saucy and so flavorful! The bone marrow was tasty but the presentation made it more difficult to serve. If it was cut in half it would be easier to scoop out and serve to the table etc. I really enjoyed the no cheese mac and cheese! It definitely doesn't taste like cheese but the flavors were still tasty and creamy! The fried polenta and that sauce was packed full of spices and flavor with just a slight heat. You've got to try the grilled Caesar salad! I'm not one for cutting my salad but the love was definitely put into this salad. The ribeye steak was so yummy with that herb butter and so big it is perfect to share! Now the real star of the show in my opinion are the cocktails! Beautifully mixed and they know what they are doing! The flourless almond cake was unfortunately super dry. I know what you are thinking, sometimes that happens with flourless cakes, but I've had really balanced flourless treats and this one just didn't meet the mark for me. Came here on a Friday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. Luckily she had made reservations because the place was packed. Checking in was a breeze and we were quickly seated. The venue and ambiance is such a vibe, really loved the candlelight and live DJ. Our server was great! He quickly came by to introduce himself and immediately took our order since we were ready to go. We ended up ordering family style and mostly only ordered appetizers. Appetizers: - Garlic Prawns: This dish SOO good! Really loved the sauce it was cooked in and how juicy the shrimp was. I didn't like the pickles but that's just cus dislike pickles. - Fried Calamari: My fav dish of the night, it was breaded nicely and was so light/crispy. Comes with two sauces but honestly great on its own with some lemon juice on top! - Ribs: The meat was falling off the bone, it was soo good! Loved the sauce it was smothered in. A little messy to eat (obviously) but totally worth it! Entree: - Fried Chicken: My partner and I shared this entree. The cornbread was really good and moist. The chicken wasn't heavily breaded and was fried to perfection, chicken was also juice/moist. The coleslaw was just ok, wish we could've subbed for fries but they don't allow modifications. Luckily we ordered a side of fries so that paired nicely with the fried chicken. Overall, this is a great meeting spot for drinks and light snacks. If getting entrees, just know the portions aren't the biggest but the food is really delicious! Parking is a bit rough on busy nights, there is a parking lot however the lot and the surrounding street was already packed at 7:30pm. We were even more surprised that the menu consisted mostly of comfort favorites. Co-owners Hi-Suk and San-Ju Dong have an extensive culinary background that wouldn't settle for a straight forward homestyle execution. This restaurant was highly rated. I was super excited and I even made reservation just in case there was a long line. There wasn't. The ribeye was a bit disappointing. There wasn't much marbling and it was on the dry side. But the appetizers were excellent. I would definitely come here just for the appetizers and drinks. Service was good.
