After passing by this spot for years, we finally got the chance to check it out. The wait time was about 20 minutes, but there was space at the bar, so we grabbed seats there since we were starving. The bartender was fantastic, she walked us through the menu and shared her favorite picks. I went with the chilaquiles and added chorizo, and we shared the tostada de tinga. I recently had dinner at Nido's Backyard and overall, it was just okay. The drinks were good, but honestly felt overpriced for what was essentially a pretty basic-looking margarita. For food, we ordered the fish taco plates, which came with pinto beans and rice. The beans were pretty bland, and the rice was nothing special--everything tasted very average and lacked flavor. The meal as a whole felt really basic, especially considering the price point. While the atmosphere is nice, the quality of the food and drinks didn't match the cost. I went to Nido's backyard Saturday, March 28 with my wife and my son and I got it to go order for my daughter. My wife had this fish tacos. They're made with rock fish and she will enjoy them. You could have them the way you like them and you get two with an order she also had a Mojito, which was so so when we got there, it was happy hour so the chips sauce and guacamole that we ordered were on the happy hour menu and they were pretty reasonable. Abigail was our server. She was pretty busy so not only did I have to get up and go to the front to get the email. I mean that the Wi-Fi password I also have to get up to go get my own to go box. This was a nice place. It's like a backyard setting and I'd recommend it. I go again as well, my son had the chicken tacos. He actually wanted the steak tacos, but he likes them plain and the steak tacos are made with onions mixed in with the meat and the chicken or not so he had the chicken tacos and he enjoyed them myself I had the mole enchiladas and they were good. I can't eat that much so I took them to go one of them and I also enjoyed the chips and salsa and guacamole with the exception of my server being very busy I highly recommended if you're not in a hurry and if you want a good meal with a great ambience, I made my reservation on Rezy! When I got there, they led me to a nice table and gave me an option of several different tables and it was quite cool and I saw some people that I recognize there. Nido's Backyard doesn't take a backseat to any restaurant. This place is legitimately great. And it takes advantage of Oakland frequent sunshine. They do have a few space heaters for the not so warm days. I love the Baja fish tacos here, pretty much all the tacos. Although, since I'm not a fan of brussels sprouts, I never get the vegetable taco. The Carnitas, Chicken and Carne Asada are all delicious. Margaritas And Mezcalitas are pretty special here. Good house too - Cimarron tequila. The bartenders know what they're doing. And the servers always bring good vibes along with your food. FYI, it's all outdoors. Some of the area is covered and they have a lot of heaters. Great place to have an event too. They have a few options to set up a private area for you. Don't even think about leaving something visible in your car or even in the trunk. Even if there's something hidden, if it's in your car and of value, use their secure parking lot. And it did not disappoint! 3 giant loaded slices filled with succulent braised beef, gooey cheese and a nice bowl of hot consommé for dipping. Nido's backyard reminds me of hanging out at your cool tia's backyard. Drinks are flowing, food is top notch, and I'm always dancing in my chair to the tunes. Parking is $5 across the street with monitored security or free street parking. Pay at Nido's before you leave or you'll be walking back. The service is wonderful. We are somehow seated even though it's busy. Honestly, we usually sit at the bar to avoid waiting. I will not let time get in the way of me and guacamole! I love to explore their house-made salsas. My new favorite is the salsa de macha. I ordered guac and chips, veggie tacos, and my ultimate seasonal favorite...quesadilla de calabacitas y flor de calabaza. Stopped by Nido's on a visit to the Bay to see family. This place wasn't around when I was growing up in the Bay Area so my brother was excited to take me. I love the use of the space with lots of hybrid indoor/outdoor space. You can get both vibes here. They had a DJ outside and more family style dining inside. Lots of large parties on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was great and the food and drinks came fairly quickly. We shared the steak tacos and queso which were ok. We enjoyed our cocktails much more. It's been a while since I've been to Nido's Backyard. My dad and I were heading to the Coliseum..yes, you heard that right..sport is back at the Coliseum and we were heading to a game! Nido's is located near Jack London and also the freeway to jump off for a nosh and head back on your way. We ordered Totopos Con Salsa Y Guacamole (chips, salsa, guac), Flautas De Papas Con Rajas (veggie/potato filled flautas), Tostada De Tinga (chicken tostada), and the Fish Baja taco plate with rice and beans. Overall, so yum! The guac is creamy, the salsas hit just right, love the fresh crunch of all the items we ordered ~ from the beer battered fish to the chicken marinated in chipotle flavors..all chef's kiss. I noticed a quesabirria on the menu and would love to come back to split this with friends! Essentially birria meat added to a large flour cheese quesadilla ($20) The margs here and bar area are such a great draw for the area and Oakland. My only qualm is the happy hour drink menu is missing a marg of any kind. Could be a cool addition to introduce the margs with a price tag cut while snacking on the happy hour food menu :) Street parking can be found outside the restaurant. I came to NIDO's for a work event in 2023. My first time here and the decor is absolutely stunning. I love the open air concept and enclosed areas as well. It was a large group of us about 20. The cocktails were delicious. I helped myself to two since the company was paying and we had various appetizers to try. Our server held it down for such a big group. The food was amazing. I got a vegetarian dish that was delicious. It's not pictured as I was so hungry I forgot to capture the delicious food. The event was nice to connect with colleagues as we all work remote and to meet the owner of her remote business so NIDO definitely made this special for us. Overall, it was a lovely experience and knowing they can handle a huge table of people with ease. All the food is fresh and homemade. Definitely would dine here again! read more

Be sure to make a reservation as it gets busy and park in their parking lot with security because, it's Oakland and there is a high chance your car will be broken into otherwise. "Backyard" is a great way to describe this restaurant, except I would need to add the additional descriptors of divided dining alcoves, fully covered seating, vibrant and artsy, uniquely landscaped and cozy. Add to that delicious and unique preparations of Mexican cuisine, refreshing and fun cocktails, efficient staff, and you've got a recipe for a great vibe. After coming to dinner on a hot evening in August and a cold night in January, I can say it's fun no matter when. Two sad soggy battered fish tacos and some canned refried beans for only $20.00. The whole wheat? Taco shells were limp, the fish was cold and had no discernible taste and practically no texture . Stopped by with a friend for a Sunday brunch. First time being here and I see why people like it - the atmosphere of the place is great. You have plenty of outdoor seating surrounded by colorful items and plants. We were seated right away considering we got here when they opened. The service was very good - they were polite, helpful and quick. My friend got the chilaquiles which looked amazing and a good portion for one person. So why not 5/5? My order came next and was very disappointing. I was looking for a leaner meal and saw that they had the chicken tacos. 2 chicken tacos for a little over $12???? Well these better be some out of this world filling tacos right? Wrong. My plate arrived and it was very sad - yes you can add beans and rice but for an additional $6 which I could not justify getting. The chicken was very dry and tacos should NOT cost $6 each - makes no sense when there are plenty of taco joints surrounding the area that are fair price. One of my favorite spots in Jack London! I mostly come here for brunch, they have fantastic drinks and seasonal pancakes which are always delicious. I'll get the pancakes, my boyfriend will get chilaquiles and we share, it's the perfect way to start a weekend. There's not a bad spot in the open air restaurant, but I do prefer it in the warmer months. But fret not, they have ample heaters around to keep you toasty even in the cold months. The staff are always super friendly too. It's also a great spot for larger groups as long as you place a reservation, there are plenty of nooks and areas they can place a larger group. My friend had her graduation dinner here after coming to brunch with me once and it was lovely, the Nidos team did an awesome job! It's been a while since I've visited Nido, decided to take my toddler again. This place is really good for families. We arrived and they gave a toddler menu with coloring options for the little one to play during the meal. We ordered the birria, potatoes, and taco plate for 2 adults and 1 toddler - it was the perfect amount of food. Potatoes - 3/5 was expecting fried crunchy potatoes, but this was coated in sauce. While it was not bad, the mismatch expectation landed it a 3/5. I do think it is healthier this way tho, so to each their own. Toddler did not like. Birria - 4/5 this was probably the toddler's favorite, the cheese, the meat with the side of consume. I wish there was more onions to cut through the fattiness of the meat and cheese, but it was tasty nonetheless Taco plate - 4/5 toddler approve. Toddler ate most of the rice and beans, it was not overly salty, could use a little more toppings, but was good and not dry. Overall, I enjoyed the patio experience, especially on a perfect 70 degree day. I've been turned away from lack of reservations on a Friday before. Sad brunch food, but good drinks. First, we were told to wait 10 minutes for a table to be available and was redirected to a small market in the lot. It was a cute market, but we walked through for 2 minutes before returning and were immediately seated in a fairly empty restaurant... She seemed to have no intentions to come back because we had to flag her down after 30 minutes (it was not busy at all). Instead, she said I could make it a Taco Plate which is adding only rice and beans for $6, now why would I do that? Ordered: Tostada de tinga - 2/5 we ate it right away but it was already soggy from the beans. Not enough seasoning. Carne asada tacos - 1/5 took one bite and there was no salt or seasoning at all. Theres no hot sauce or salt on the table to add + did not want to flag the waitress again. Finished it only because I was hungry. Can't believe each taco was $7.. Chilaquiles picantes tronadores con chorizo - 3.5/5 thank god we had this to make up for the other 2 dishes.
