Beautiful Interior
Amanda P.

My friends and I recently visited La Loulou Wine Bar and I have to start by saying the space itself is very beautiful. The atmosphere feels photographic and thoughtfully curated, with a design that immediately sets a cozy and intimate tone. I also really appreciated the large selection of bites, which felt more expansive than many other wine bars and made it easy to settle in for the evening. Unfortunately, the wine was where the experience fell short for our group. Between the four of us we tried a total of nine different wines, sharing tastes across the table, and none of us felt particularly compelled by any of them. With so many incredible wine programs in the Bay Area, the quality just did not feel at the level we were hoping for. The biggest challenge, though, was the service and overall clarity around how the bar operates. I arrived first and ordered a glass that totaled $22 and asked if they offered any sort of tasting or program that would allow me to try a few wines. I was told they were not that kind of place. Shortly after, a friend arrived and was able to order what was essentially a three glass flight for $23, which felt confusing and inconsistent given what I had just been told. Throughout the night the service continued to feel off. One staff member was warm, but the gentleman behind the bar rolled his eyes at multiple customers and would stare in a way that felt uncomfortable while people were trying to enjoy their evening. It created an energy that felt unwelcoming rather than relaxed. Having visited many wine bars locally and internationally, this experience felt surprisingly off putting. I truly hope it was just an off night because the space has so much potential, but I cannot say I feel compelled to return or recommend it out of concern others might have a similar experience.

I absolutely LOVED this place. I was visiting family in Oakland and we randomly found this place and fell in love. The vibes are incredible and it really did feel like a little Parisian stop in Oakland. The decor is absolutely adorable, and even the bathroom was its own experience! The service was also great. The bartenders were super helpful in making decisions on what to drink. I went with the Sancerre which was delicious, my cousin has the frozen cocktail and also super enjoyed it. The charcuterie board was also great. The cheese selection was so good and they even had gluten free crackers which was awesome for me! I didn't want to leave this place. Can't wait to go back!

Too cold Jacquère!

Was excited to try out Loulou on a chilly Friday February afternoon, I mean french-style bistro in Oakland! Well the place is indeed inviting but the prices are not France, nor Paris for that matter. I had an $18 glass of Jacquère, a grape from the Savoie region of France that I don't know too much about. But the temp of the wine was borderline icicle temps, so I got no flavor from it at all. I asked our server why she server it so cold, " oh, that's how it's done". Not. My wife got the least expensive which was a Pinot Gris,$16 from Alsace; great to see Alsace represented here but still a bit pricey. A $9 plate of olives was the only redeeming thing. And according to the server there is no happy hour pricing. It's gonna take a lot for me to revisit this place, had high hopes.

If you're looking for a cute spot to have a glass of wine with a friend, look no further than La Loulou! The ambiance is beautiful and transports you to France or Italy. You feel cute sitting there, sipping their tasty frozen Aperol Spritz. Before you leave, be sure to take a trip to the bathroom for a fun surprise!

Ambiance 5/5 Service 3 ( not over friendly) Food N/A wine only $40 for 2 glasses The ambiance is really nice, definitely feels like a French bistro, whimsical and bling. The decor from the bistro chairs, to the swing inside and the bathroom is where the investment has gone. My husband had a frozen apperal spritz and I had a French rose. Both a bit pricey, but we're paying for the ambiance after all. I would recommend as the place is lovely for a glass of wine, but don't expect excellent service to match the pricing. A collection of Small things could have made the experience better:like greeting customers, suggesting a wine by asking customer preference could have went a long way and an opportunity to up-sell food. A lost opportunity and dollars. Even pointing out the seating selection would be nice.i Felt like if I asked a question it would be answered but we didn't feel super welcomed. The food items looked nice with detail on the charcuterie tray. I honestly wasn't motivated by the service to try.

Small cheese and charcuterie plate and a glass of rosé

Welcome to Piedmont Avenue, La Loulou! I'm glad you're here. I met a friend for a late afternoon drink and nosh and it was delightful to sit in La Loulou's sun-drenched space. I ordered a glass of Sancerre rosé and a small charcuterie and cheese plate. I like that you order at the bar because if I have to wait, I'd rather do it up front rather than when I'm ready to leave. But I could see how this might be less optimal if you were ordering additional items and the place was crowded--it wasn't on my visit. If you like Bay Grape and/or Ordinaire, you'll like La Loulou (and probably dig its cozy vibe). La Loulou leans more cafe-like in its atmosphere, during daylight hours anyway. La Loulou is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to visiting again soon!

Absolutely obsessed with this place is decor, staff and wine selection! Highly recommend for anyone looking for charcuterie and something to sip on! Check out their beautifully decorated bathroom

From the top-- eye catching and beautiful design elements, cute French chairs and tables, and high ceilings. Great wine selection that's only getting better. I've been twice and the bubbles and non-alc Alsace are my top picks. Last but not least, I really like the counter order/table service set up. It removes unnecessary server issues or time wasted. Still have friendly service, too. The only thing I wish it had was bar seating. Lovely spot!

Three hours chatting over wine flew by! The space felt welcoming; I'd easily visit, again. Delicious Bordeaux, nice Champagne and Pinot Noir. The cheeses were full of flavor, which I loved. It's a sun-drenched spot that stays light at night. The decor is thoughtful: velvet seats, flowers at each table, and a clear menu (see pic).

I'll start with the positive. The place is gorgeous! Very instagrammable and whimsical and pretty! Apparently, it's kid and dog friendly, as in there were a lot of people with babies here. My friend and I got there around 3:45 on a Friday and it wasn't full and we had an easy time grabbing a table. I will say that as it got a bit later (i.e. after 5), the place was full and it got pretty loud. It's all counter service, so I ordered a charcuterie plate, which was tasty, and sampler of 3 wines. I love cab francs like no other, so when the person behind the counter told me they actually had two that they were pouring, I got both, along with a Grenache (also a fun/favorite grape). I had actually arrived first (before my friend), and when I went to order, I tried an NA wine, which was good, but then I decided to order a sampler instead (without tasting). I tried all three of my wines before my friend arrived. The Grenache was lackluster, and one of the cab francs had zero flavor to it. The second cab franc was horrendous, to the point that I assumed it was corked. I waited for my friend to arrive and asked her opinion and her face said it all and she also opined that it must have been corked. I sheepishly took it to the counter and asked about whether that might be the case, and the person told me that no, that's just what it's supposed to taste like (she described it as being very funky). I was a little perplexed as to me, there's a difference between funky and corked, and I simply slid the glass across the bar and said that I may as well give it to her as I was definitely not going to drink it. She did kindly offer to pour me something else, so that was nice. So, what I'll say is that it's a gorgeous spot, but the wines I tried were ones I'd absolutely avoid. Will I come back? Sure. Will I ask to try the wines before I order so much as a sampler? Yes. Let's just go with I managed to order things that did not fit my taste buds.

We have passed this wine bar a few times and finally decided to stop in for a glass! The vibes are immaculate! You really feel like you have been transported to a European cafe. They also have a bunch of outdoor tables to enjoy as well. The staff was very friendly and helped us to try wines we liked before we picked a glass. The prices seemed a little high though, I would come back again and try a tasting instead. Might be a better value.

Such a cute spot!! Friendly staff, and the cutest European vibes. Felt like I was transported to France. We got a fight, charcuterie, olives & nuts. Everything was so good, I'll definitely be coming back!

Very nice vibe. Wonderful interior. So far, the place has been hopping. No idea why Piedmont Avenue didn't have a wine bar but they sure do now. Good selection of wines by the glass or for purchase by the bottle and some small plates as well.

They have 2 types of service options, if you decided to enjoy wine in their establishment. You can either order a $20 wine flight (Which comes with 3 glasses) or buy a bottle and they will uncork for you to enjoy there. They had about 1 to 2 options for 4 wine type of choices located on a card. We went with the flight. I had questions because I am a Cab and Malbec girl and in their Reds area, nothing adds even close to it. When the male employee spoke to me, he had a bit of sarcasm coming off. I didn't understand why because my questions were valid. He was short with his answers as if he did not want to talk to me. After this, he poured our drinks. I questioned the amount because it was very very very little bit. When I spoke with that same guy, he stated "What you expect..a whole glass of wine at $20 for 3?" I told him that I expected a little more love half a glass. He was like "It says on the card that it is 2.5 oz". I looked at the card because I knew that was nowhere on there. So I informed him that the size was not in the card and that is something that they should put because what we received was not worth $20 and that we could have purchased a bottle. That's how they get people. That flight is a total rip off!! Also, he put the drinks all on front of us, but did not tell us which was which, who's was for who nor personally give it to us. There were no little signs to inform us of what we were drinking. We had to ask him because he had walked off. He came over and was confused as you which was which as well. We received no water and we weren't even asked. Both employees were consumed with another person who was there (Business) and wine tasting and talking that we just weren't that relevant to ensure that our needs were fully met. Wine tasting: All 3 of the wines I had was disgusting. The one of the Reds that I had, stated it was bold. It was not. I had a Bubble (Orange) and it was horrible. Like all of them were cheap wines with no real packed flavor. The female employee or owner (I'm unsure) asked ONLY my friend what she thought of the wine. She never bothered to ask me which was really unprofessional. Neither of them ever introduced themselves or gave their names although we indicated that this was our 1st visit. Not very personable. This was a total waste of money and time for an experience. Wet had to go and find another place to get an enjoyable experience at.

Some times a glass is what you want if your partner wants some thing different or you want to try a 2nd or 3rd glass of something different. We had a bottle of the Luberon for about $55. It was good. We both liked it and would order it again. We also had a cheese board with all the normal fixings which was great. Recieved "Best Wine Bar" in Best of Alameda ratings. But thinking about it sine Wine & Waffles closed years ago it may be the only wine bar left in Alameda. Yes, restaurants and bars serve wine but not the same thing. Lemon Drop came in 2nd on the list and they are hardly a wine bar. (No shade LD. You do great for who you are). Service was great and the lady who brought us all the goods was pleasant.
