    Valentine's wine and candle class!
    Lydia B.

My husband and I are members at Alta Vina and absolutely love it. The atmosphere is warm, convivial, and welcoming -- never pretentious. Henry brings such a kind, knowledgeable, and refreshingly non-snobby approach to wine that makes every visit enjoyable. The selection is fantastic, the music and vibe are always great, and they host unique events (we even did a candle-making workshop there!). It's truly one of our favorite local spots.

The owner, who welcomes all comers.

The staff and service are just phenomenal. I was lucky enough to meet the owner from behind the bar. His enthusiasm for California wine is infectious. And I happened to sit next to a newbie who the owner kindly, patiently, and expertly guided to a perfect choice after several tastes. The cheese is good, but the wine and staff shine. I've since joined the wine club and returned several times, always way to a warm welcome!

Great wine bar in the Jack London area. Solid selection of CA wine and fun snacks. Henry does a great job and you should stop by.

Once you're seated inside, you can imagine you're in just about any rustic wine region kicking back with some local wines and people. I did the sparkling wine flight. I really enjoyed what I tasted (see photo). I think because there was going to be a Georgian food pop up, the kitchen wasn't as it usually is. I had a little board of brillant savarian triple cream and salchichon salami. What a treat! The service was unusual. Part of it is that it's a wine bar and shop. The person staffing the bar was really busy doing many different things. As that was the case, interacting felt a bit strained. At the same time, considering how much she had going on, she kept it together. I appreciated that she kept track of who was next. Something that stood out to me was how reasonably priced the wines are. Great "bang for the buck." I see myself being a regular.

Highlights: Everything on the cheese plate was delish (always could use more bread though). The wine was also good. Notes: I feel like the service could have been more clear. We got seated but didn't know if it was an order at the bar of place so were just sitting and waiting for a bit. Someone eventually came by and got our order but we ended up just going to the bar to order more and pay at the end.

The atmosphere is quaint, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated. They frequently host live music and offer a variety of games and activities that align with what's happening around the city and the season. It's a great spot to meet friends before dinner or after dinner, although I'm not entirely sure of their late-night hours. The restrooms are clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed, which honestly matters in a wine bar. While Coco Noir doesn't offer a full menu, they do have bits and bites, including charcuterie boards crafted by an amazing chef. Chef Shan Shan puts genuine love and care into everything she creates, and she has done an outstanding job with her role at Coco Noir. Because of her alone, I've become a regular and will continue to be a loyal patron of this amazing venue. They have 2 types of service options, if you decided to enjoy wine in their establishment. You can either order a $20 wine flight (Which comes with 3 glasses) or buy a bottle and they will uncork for you to enjoy there. They had about 1 to 2 options for 4 wine type of choices located on a card. We went with the flight. I had questions because I am a Cab and Malbec girl and in their Reds area, nothing adds even close to it. When the male employee spoke to me, he had a bit of sarcasm coming off. I didn't understand why because my questions were valid. He was short with his answers as if he did not want to talk to me. After this, he poured our drinks. I questioned the amount because it was very very very little bit. When I spoke with that same guy, he stated "What you expect..a whole glass of wine at $20 for 3?" I told him that I expected a little more love half a glass. He was like "It says on the card that it is 2.5 oz". I looked at the card because I knew that was nowhere on there. So I informed him that the size was not in the card and that is something that they should put because what we received was not worth $20 and that we could have purchased a bottle. That's how they get people. That flight is a total rip off!! Also, he put the drinks all on front of us, but did not tell us which was which, who's was for who nor personally give it to us. There were no little signs to inform us of what we were drinking. We had to ask him because he had walked off. He came over and was confused as you which was which as well. We received no water and we weren't even asked. Both employees were consumed with another person who was there (Business) and wine tasting and talking that we just weren't that relevant to ensure that our needs were fully met. Wine tasting: All 3 of the wines I had was disgusting. The one of the Reds that I had, stated it was bold. It was not. I had a Bubble (Orange) and it was horrible. Like all of them were cheap wines with no real packed flavor. The female employee or owner (I'm unsure) asked ONLY my friend what she thought of the wine. She never bothered to ask me which was really unprofessional. Neither of them ever introduced themselves or gave their names although we indicated that this was our 1st visit. Not very personable. This was a total waste of money and time for an experience. Wet had to go and find another place to get an enjoyable experience at.
