Today was my first time trying this place and I don't know why I hadn't tried this place sooner. I ordered a large cappuccino and the chorizo hash with an English muffin. I was highly surprised at how good the chorizo hash was. I would definitely recommend trying it. The cappuccino was good and it gave me the boost I needed to start my day. My husband had the Gold Coast hash & Thai tea, he really enjoyed both. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio to have our breakfast and coffee. The staff was welcoming and friendly. They have indoor and outdoor sitting. Street parking/ meter parking. They have a small retail area with coffee cups, tote bags, cards, and more cute unique items. I did notice when I was leaving that they have a small bar area carrying wine and beer. Next time I will have to take a better look at the bar area and see what they got. read more

When: Tue @9am I keep hearing about this place and felt I am long overdue to give it a try. Sadly it was not a great experience for us getting breakfast there. You line up first to order, then you sit down. For some reason the cashier did not hear my second order and that made the transaction twice as long. Here's what we ordered: HUEVOS RANCHEROS - $15 2 over easy eggs on fried tortillas, red salsa, beans, potatoes, sour cream. This has got to be the saddest Huevos Rancheros plate I've seen and experienced. Wish the dallop of scour cream was bigger, and overall this dish was just okay. It felt unhappy, but the taste was fine, nothing memorable. BREAKFAST SANDWICH - $8 Egg Cheese, and choice of meat (sausage) and bread (croissant.) Somehow this was serviced on sourdough, and it's not worth having them fix this. It's also not worth $8, it looks and tastes like something I can easily make at home. All in all, we were very unhappy with our time and food here, but glad we finally gave it a shot and tried it! read more

A coworker of mine has been recommending West Cafe in Alameda for about a year now. He's a regular and stops by a few times a week for coffee, so I finally decided to check it out myself on a rainy Saturday morning. The place was pretty busy when I arrived, which is always a good sign. I ordered the French toast special, which comes with three pieces of French toast, eggs, and a side of meat. Since I don't eat pork and they didn't have turkey bacon available that day, I ended up getting a piece of chicken with it and a large coffee. The coffee was excellent--a nice big diner-style cup and really good quality. You can tell why people come here regularly just for coffee. The French toast was really good and came topped with strawberries and raspberries, which I wasn't expecting but was a nice touch. The eggs were fresh, and the chicken was flavorful--I added a little Tapatío and it hit the spot. The atmosphere was great too: very clean, welcoming, and the staff were friendly and engaging. The only two small drawbacks for me were: * The portion size felt a little small. I would have loved maybe a couple more pieces of French toast or a slightly bigger portion overall. * There didn't seem to be table-side coffee refills. It looked like if you wanted another cup you had to go back to the counter and order again. Aside from those minor things, the overall experience was very good. I'd give it about a 9 out of 10. I'll definitely be coming back to try other things on the menu--maybe an omelet next time. If you're in Alameda and looking for a good breakfast spot with great coffee, West Cafe is definitely worth checking out. read more

Stopped here for a quick brunch before an event in Alameda. There was a line of about 10 people but it moved quick, the staff is definitely hustling when it's busy! I had an iced Mexican mocha that was delicious, definitely recommend. For food I got the chicken and pesto sandwich, which was tasty. I did think the chicken was a bit bland, and could have used more pesto. Also the sandwich was so hot and the parchment paper seemed to have melted a bit into it, so had to dig some of that out. My wife said the breakfast burrito was good. My short stack of pancakes, adding ham for $$2. The pancakes are flat not fluffy. Surprised I haven't reviewed Wescafe yet! Wescafe has been a staple cafe/restaurant on Alameda's west side for a long time, and we've been here a number of times over the years. Including today, on the eve of 2026, to fuel up for a day and night of ringing in a new year. NYE is always a big deal to me as I, perhaps naively, hope for a better year ahead. This is a cozy spot for breakfast or lunch. Cozy, but not cramped. Nicely laid out and tastefully decorated. There is ample seating, inside, as well as on the lovely patio/garden in the back, but it does get busy. The place is popular, and for good reason. The menu has something for everyone: Breakfast plates, bagels and breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, frittatas, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. They have an extensive menu of espresso drinks, so if you like coffee, this is your place. Also, fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, wine, and beer. A hardworking group of people keep this place running smoothly, despite how busy they get. When you visit, say hi to Pepe, and tell him Andrea and Richard sent you. read more

Casual dine in cafe with indoor and very limited outdoor seating. The ambiance is very serene yet vibrant; I love the calming energy and vibes here. I had tried the caramel latte, chai tea latte and some pastries, one of the best that I've had. I can't speak for the other items as I've not tried it yet but I look forward to next time. Aside from food and drinks, they have a small selection of WesCafe merchandise shirts on the side wall; there are other candles, tea, mugs and other little trinkets for sale. The staff are very kind and polite; they go above and beyond to make sure that your order is right. It's obvious that they take pride in what they do. I love their positive attitude and energy. I definitely highly recommend this place. I haven't had an omelette done right for a long time. Totally fluffy as it should be. Everywhere I had been going for the past years like Elio's in San Leandro, Doug's, Norman's Grill, and Breakfast Club in Castro Valley, and Skillet's cafe in Fremont, they all served omelette made with a thin layer of burned eggs, wrapped around old yucky ingredients and sitting in oil. If these restaurants don't train your kitchen workers the right way to cook? You are going to lose customers. Our party ordered and chose our experience to be stationed in the back for it was covered and serene. Their menu items were not extensive but sufficient for too many choices can be exhausting. Their food was quite good. I would highly recommend this restaurant for their primary focus was relaxation. Both their Inside our outside environments had a sense of tranquility. 4 of 5 for their timing was not in sync during our visit. Each of our selections arrived at different times and beverages were purchased individually. (Written by my daughter.) SMOOTHIE WARNING!!! Imagine a world where there is only one fruit, ORANGE. I went with a fellow friend to this place. We have been here a few times before and the food is bomb (also had normal smoothies in past.) THOUGH today me and said friend ordered a peach, and mango peach smoothie. When we got it, it tasted so much like orange, we were convinced we took the wrong drinks. The smoothie was so overpowered by orange that I could not taste the peach. My friends smoothie had both mango AND peach, yet hers was even more oranged out. I asked a lady behind the counter about it and she said "all of our smoothies are orange based." Couldn't tell if she was lying because she herself made it, or it's true, and any smoothie you get here will have no flavor other than straight orange. Nowhere on any sign, or verbally did they warn you with orange. Imagine someone is allergic to oranges and dies when they drink their "strawberry banana" smoothie. All in all, the smoothie is fine if you like orange but if you dont, DONT GET IT! read more

Wescafe has become my go to restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The food is stellar. I have multiple food allergies and normally that means when I eat out, the experience is well... a little sad. The things I'm allergic to make things delicious. ‍But when I come here, the food is still on point. It has a lot of flavor that doesn't need to be made up for with things like cheese. It's a sort of cool, interesting place with a super nice patio out back. It's always busy with a long line to order, and very loud. However, their quiche is to be avoided. It's dry and tasteless. They seriously need to find better recipes. Go to Julie's Coffee & Tea on Park and try theirs. They have a great patio, too. A couple of times it seemed like 2 or 3 more minutes in the oven would help, as it was as soft and wet as lemon merangue pie. Wescafe has really big menu to choose from. Although Wescafe doesn't usually take reservations, they made an exception for my 80 year old friend, her husband, another friend and me. We sat is the courtyard which was pleasant and surprisingly quiet. We arrived for Sunday brunch and ordered a variety of dishes. I had the excellent vegan mushroom soup which was accompanied by three pieces of warm buttered bread. I also had a gigantic cup of chamomile tea. My friend had an enormous plate of pancakes which she smothered in butter and maple syrup. There were actually enough pancakes for two servings Her husband had "The Lincoln" which included scrambled eggs ,ham, potatoes and toast -- a hardy breakfast by anyone's standards. Our other friend had a bagel which was larger than most bagels and a tall cup of hot coffee. The servings were oversize but somehow we all managed to eat every morsel on our respective plates. We spent an unrushed 90 minutes enjoying the warm Sunday morning with tasty food. The server was efficient and brought us extra napkins and silverware. We lucked out with a parking space right in front of the restaurant. We all plan to return to Wescafe soon. read more

I came here on a tip that this place has the best burrito in the island! In short I think not! But still delicious! I'd come back for it when I have the craving. I usually don't like beans in my breakfast burrito but the bacon was crispy and it was the saving grace. This cafe is awesome, cute, and seems like a great place to work from. When you dine in, they give you a number to bring your food to you but I had to come up to get my own latte. Another great aspect of this sweet cafe is that they sell artisan crafts from local artists so you can shop for items if you need to buy a gift for someone or treat yourself. I like what they are doing here but it is not on point. I wonder if they eat their own food. The steak sandwich was very difficult to eat. Way too thick and hard bread. Everything just squished out. Also it is not steak. It is a small amount of chopped beef with cheese. There is more lettuce and bread than anything else. I'll give it another shot and try something different next time. read more

As I was killing time for work I decided to get breakfast locally. The decor is very nice as soon as you see the business. Tables outside, inside, and there's a patio in the back as well. I love that's it's local owned, fresh produce to the quick eye, and a nice place to study or catch up on some reading while you enjoy your food. You are given a number and you have the freedom to sit anywhere you'd like. Tables were clean. Food was pretty spot on. I got the Grand omelette. There's other omelettes names with local names and I like that. There's not much vegetarian options. That food temperature was on point. Flavour and seasoning were good. One is not given an option of bread, or at least I want informed. Price is reasonably priced for the portion and for what it is. Potatoes were nice and warm. Bread perfectly toasted with a dash of butter. The omelette was so nice and went went with the bread. A big chunks of sour cream is given to you. Once finished i left my empty plates on the table, as I saw others doing the same. Service was a bit odd. The staff members seems to do things with a futile attitude and somewhat rude. I noticed an available table At the front, but it wasn't clean so I asked a gentleman behind the counter If he could clean it. he wiped it twice with a wet rag and left all types of food on it. Apparently the rag also had no soap or disinfectant on it either because and whatever rag he used had no disinfectant on it because when I went behind him with my Lysol wipes they had loads of dirt on them. Whether you believe in the pandemic or not, we can all agree that the spread of sickness is caused by lack of cleanliness! I could only eat a small portion of my meal because if you are so careless with cleaning tables, I can't imagine what your kitchen looks like. I will not return! read more

It was raining when I left the nearby Alameda farmers market c. 11:30 AM, and it was cold. So, as I walked up Webster from Haight and came upon this warm & welcoming cafe, I couldn't resist. Years ago, I would duck in to buy a newspaper. However, that is no longer possible - everything is online. grrr My next thought was a hot, steaming cup of cocoa. yep The place was full but there were still available tables, seats at the counter. As soon as I stepped up to order - with no wait - my memories of how welcoming and cordial the staff is at Wescafe came back. I ordered, easily paid at their state of the art terminal and walked back to the counter area. There were several empty seats, so I used one to off load my tote & other bags full of f.m. purchases (the grapes are so good now in late Oct.). My cocoa arrived in a few minutes; it was just hot enough and very rich. yum There's a humungous TV screen on the back wall across from the counter but, thank goodness, they keep the volume very low. The noise volume of the other patrons was also surpisingly low. It was extremely cozy to sit and sip my hot drink. This business has kept all its best qualities over the years and is still very reasonable. read more
