    WTF sans ham.
    Jay R.

I ordered the Silky Caramel, iced. I usually ask for light ice but I didn't since it was my first time ordering, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they don't fill the cup with ice to begin with! Thank you Bad Barista! The drink wasn't too sweet, so I added some sweet and low. They have some additives on the counter. I also ordered the WTF sandwich. I came in the morning and they already didn't have ham. They offered extra of the bacon or turkey, so I took that. The bread wasn't toasted enough for me, or rather, I thought it would be pan toasted with some butter or something, but I think the slices were just put in the toaster. The space might still be in progress. There were tables that were put away on the corners of the room, and no chairs to sit at while waiting. I'll update my review when I visit again. I'm sure things will only improve!

During my tour of Alameda's dining scene, I snapped some photos of Bad Barista's offerings for Restaurant Week and these are the coolest dishes I saw. They make sweeter drinks that are almost dessert-like coffee with cream and fruity flavors. Their colorful, fun drinks really stand out, and they also do sandwiches and plenty of other fun food additions.

My co-worker friend arranged a coffee meetup with us four former co-workers that resided in Alameda. It was cool since I haven't seen two of them is a while. He arranged for us to meet up at 9am on a Thursday at Bad Barista, his favorite local coffee shop located at the Encinal Shopping Center, a small neighborhood strip mall. When I arrived, I remember this being the former Café Aulait. Checking out the menu board, offering consists of coffee drinks, teas, frappes, smoothies, shushes and breakfast sandwiches and bagels, square muffins and croissants. I got a large drip and was hoping their offerings would including pastries, but they only had bagels and the square muffins as they were out of croissants. They have a quaint patio in the back for you to enjoy your drinks and food. It was quiet and we were able to catch-up with our coffees. Worker was friendly. No restroom on the premises as it is located across at the Encinal Market Good local coffee shop with a quaint patio. Hope they expand their offering to include breakfast pastries options.

Pulled up for groceries near Encinal market & noticed this adorable sign outside- went inside for a cappuccino & it was on point! Worth a return visit for sure.

1465 Webster St Alameda, CA 94501…read more I had a fair experience here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. I had a day planned that included cleaning the garage, so I figured a big breakfast would be good. I walked in just before 9am, and the place was empty. A waitress greeted me and told me to sit anywhere. It's actually hard to pick a table when the place is empty. Cape 7 has a fairly large dining room. It used to be a Sizzler Restaurant. Before Cape 7, it was "Shell Shock." Cape 7 never changed the Shell Shock decor, so it has a nautical theme. A pirate stands guard by the restrooms. So I sat at a booth by the window. I sat back and the bench seat was broken. A gentleman raced over and switched the bench seats. Wow, you have to be careful when you sit down at Cape 7. I ordered a Denver Omelette w/ hash browns, a side of Pancakes, and Coffee. It took about 10-min for my food to come. By 9am more customers came in. After my food arrived, I didn't see a waitress or waiter for 20-mins. Then the owner arrived, and a waitress checked on my table every 5 mins. The Denver Omelette was made with 4 eggs. The serving size was pretty large. The two pancakes were a bit dry. I needed more butter and syrup. Instead, I used alot of jams (that were on the table). The food was okay, I might come back for breakfast again. Off street parking lot in back.

The French toast combo was basic. The sausage links were under cooked, the over medium eggs were more over easy and the French toast took too long. As I was leaving at 11 a live band was getting ready to perform. I don't plan to come back.

My partner ordered the chicken breast that came with a sort gravy on top with a side potato purée. I ordered the filet mignon with potato purée that was loaded with bacon, chives, sour cream and blue cheese. Both of our orders came with a sparse selection of 3-4 stalks of asparagus that had some yellowish color. It didn't have the freshest taste. My filet mignon was rather small in size, not much flavor and the potato puree could be something better when made at home (I.e. nothing outstanding). The calamari and gnocchi appetizers were OK but not more elevated than what we could get at a conventional diner. The presentation was somewhat reminiscent of cafeteria food. We were disappointed though still finished our meal. The atmosphere at CK is lit just right for romance without being too dark, completely clean, relaxed yet unsurprisingly quite empty for a Saturday night. The value of the meal was not reflective of the high rating that attracted us to CK in the first place. We likely will pay what we did for a better overall dinner experience elsewhere and consider trying out CK for brunch.

The setup is mostly an outdoor restaurant vibe with a kitchen operating behind an industrial tent, which was nice enough, though nothing absolutely blew me away. The staff and service here are incredibly friendly, polite, and welcoming! I also thoroughly enjoyed the champagne. For food, the hamburger was really good and hit the spot, even if it was a little on the pricier side at just over $19. However, do not order the beignets. I've had beignets all across different continents and restaurants worldwide, and these were at the absolute bottom of the list. They tasted like basic, quick-fried puff pastry with powdered sugar thrown on top. Overall, it's a friendly spot with a solid burger. I wouldn't necessarily suggest it to a friend or rush back on my own, but if someone else really wanted to go, I'd be willing to tag along for another burger and a glass of champagne.
