Waited 15 minutes at the to-go window to place an order to-go and was informed they are not taking food orders to go, only coffee orders at the window. Apparently, the kitchen cannot handle taking orders from customers inside and customers placing food orders to go. But you can go inside and place an order to eat at a table. The inside is small and limited space. Then to top it off the employee at the window was extremely rude about it! We stopped by Neptune's on a Sunday afternoon around 2PM, right before they were about to close at 2:30PM. While we were worried that they would turn us away, the staff was kind enough to get us seated and orders placed before their kitchen closed. FOOD: I ordered the Farmers Scramble and the Spaniard Latte. Both were so satisfying and delicious! Everyone's portions were so generous. My scramble came with a healthy serving of scrambled eggs, toast, salad, and fried potatoes. It was an incredibly comforting meal, especially while enjoying it on their outdoor patio area. Additionally, it was my first time trying a Spaniard Latte, which is a combination of espresso and condensed milk. It was the right level of sweetness and I thoroughly enjoyed it on a warm, sunny day. SERVICE: I'm so grateful that they seated us so close to closing time! It was fluffy, slightly sweet, and complemented the sandwich components. I think a tangy aioli would make it even better and less dry as well. The purple potato was the best of the bunch with a crispy crunch and soft inside. The service was nice. The place was clean but there was a slight wet rag smell where I sat. Also I wish the ketchup was brought as needed because the sun was super strong and would warm up the glass ketchup bottle that stays at the table all day. I ordered apple juice and the breakfast sandwich (disclaimer for dairy-free people: there is cheese on this sandwich, I don't think it mentioned that on the menu but I had to remove it because I'm lactose intolerant), and it came with a side salad and potatoes. We've been meaning to come here for a while now and we always couldn't catch the right time. The other day, we were up and about we were looking on where to go and chanced going here and we were happy they were open. I motif inside has a nautical feel and it is calming be there. I was also pleasantly surprised by the menu. I had looked it up before. I saw Filipino influences in a lot of the menu and being Filipino myself, I was happy to see it on the menu. The server and the rest of the staff were very nice and efficient. I didn't ask but I think the chef or owner was helping serve since they got pretty busy. Just kidding, I doubt they use food coloring but I'm not sure where the green color came from because it did not taste like matcha. I was asked if I wanted it sweet and I said sure. My friend and I came here on a whim, I really really wanted to love this place because they don't have good reviews and I want to boost up business. Unfortunately, the food was not good at all. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and she couldn't eat it, she said it was cold and nasty and we had to send the dish back. I had some sort of egg scramble, it was strange that it just came out of the kitchen but the food was cold. The eggs were kind of runny and the cheese wasn't melted all the way. The potatoes were okay, pretty crispy but it was so greasy and again kind of like warm. It was very strange. The sliced avocado was the only good part. I ordered a simple waffle with 1 egg on the side. The waffle was Luke warm, the syrup was cold and they didn't even bring butter. I had to ask for it. Not that it mattered because it wouldn't melt at all because of the waffle being cold! It took a while before the server came over and when ai told him he just repeated what I said in a question form. Asking...it's cold?? Ummm, yes! It is Jan 2024 and Neptune is open for dine in Monday-Friday 8:30-2:30pm. It is takeout only at the window on the weekends, which is so sad since weekends are the ultimate brunch time for peeps. Neptune's ambiance and service has always been nice. Each of the employees we've encountered have been very pleasant each time we go there, whether it be dine in or at the take out window. Neptunes has our favorite coffee on the island! They also have Filipino fusion classics that we feeds our cravings such as Longanisa Silog and Fried Chicken Silog. The prices are a bit up there, which I can expect in the Bay Area so it's nothing too surprising. Today, I was introduced to Chorizo Tots which were SO EFFING DELICIOUS and filling. I absolutely loved the different toppings on it and the fact that the tots were very crispy. They were a great recommendation by our server, and I look forward to getting them again. Some things Im sad about: not open for dine in on the weekends, and they don't have fountain drinks with complimentary refills (I go through soda FAST when I'm eating something salty. This place was super popular on the weekends as a brunch destination, and a much-needed addition to Alameda's West End business district. Despite ongoing pleas from many loyal customers over the past three years, they have not brought back sit-down dining, and have been unresponsive to inquiries as to if/when they plan to fully reopen. At least let people know what to expect. Now they only operate through a take-out window. No thanks, I can cook at home; I go out for the experience, not just for the food. We have been eating at Neptune from startup! We have watched its menu, and its space grow! The food is always special and delicious. My family loves the Filipino offerings. I just had what I think is the BEST hamburger in Alameda. A fantastic bun! Truly delish Wagyu patty! Plenty of tomato and lettuce. And a wonderful dressing which I still have not figyred out! My very picky friends from "Berkeley" loved the chicken and waffles. My grand kids cant wait to get their lumpia fix! Almost all that could go wrong went wrong. Based on breakfast, I have no idea how this establishment is getting any 4 or 5 star reviews. It was a disaster. They need to sort themselves out: Seating was easy but the wait just to order was too long. And there weren't many others there eating. I ordered the eggs benedict and asked for no tomatoes, onions or kale on it. But the eggs were served with tomatoes and onions. Once they corrected the order, the egg whites tasted sour, disgusting. I assume they used far too much vinegar when poaching the eggs (that's my partner's theory, after tasting it). There was only about a tablespoon of hollandaise sauce involved too. It was baffling. The potato wedges were a wrinkly, dry and burned mess. All this and the whole meal was overpriced. Positives: The waiter who returned my botched eggs was pleasant, quick. Also, the girl at the window isnt very friendly -- almost feels like you're burdening them by giving them business. If you go, call ahead and make sure you just get the burrito. I think they threw in some junk fees on our bill too -- not sure how two breakfast burritos made it to $30 (and then asked for tip after bad window service, lol).
