Pros: service was great, Hazel was very sweet and checked up on us often. My son's Mickey Mouse pancakes and hot chocolate were perfect, she even made the hot chocolate kids temp which a lot of places forget to do even when I tell them. Cons: I ordered the eggs benadict and the english muffin was burnt. Not just slightly burnt, burnt as in I had to use a lot of elbow grease to cut through it and looking at the bottom I saw it was completely black. I initially thought it was a one off mistake but looking at prior reviews it's not the first time. Etc: The hollandaise sauce was good but had a spice to it, tasted like cayenne. Not as issue for me but for someone who might expect a traditional hollandaise sauce it might be an unwelcome surprise. Having been to Jim's on the Course, decided to try this spot since they're together. Standard American breakfast / brunch spot. If you're hungry, this is a good restaurant to come to as the portions are massive. As you can see from the photos though, the food is a bit overwhelming. Other than being massive, it's greasy and lacking vibrancy of colors. Servers were nice, but service was a little off. It took a while to get our check. Then we realized (after not being told) that we needed to go up to the register to pay. Our section closed while we were eating, so a sign was placed quite literally right behind my husband (he bumped into it as he got up from his chair to pay). Came in for breakfast before attending a meeting nearby. The green and white color theme has a family friendly vibe. Fairly empty, was able to get seated quickly. We had a large group but the ordering was seamless, our waitress was excellent. My recent trip to Jim's a couple weeks ago has taken me weeks to write this review because I was lowkey reeling. Our server was frantic not to mention everyone else in the restaurant- to which I can attest there's one sweaty man who kept dripping sweat on us when meticulously and violently arranging our silverware. It's going to sound like I'm making this up but it's unfortunately true. The sweaty (manager?) guy haphazardly filled our waters and spilled everywhere, on our foot, sweating in our water, and just left as if he didn't notice. Our food was completely undercooked. Raw corned beef hash, raw hash browns, eggs undercooked. One of the French toasts tasted like chemicals. The person managing or running this place must have lit a fire under everyone's butt in a bad way because it made everything worse!! Feeling bad for all staff involved... And on top of it all it was pricey. I used to come here pretty regularly but unfortunately I will not be back, sorry Jim! read more

Oh my goodness, I have been to Alameda a million times, drove by for years and didn't even noticed Jim's. The Waffle House down the street was packed, so we saw this place with a no frills door and thought we can try it. So happy we did. It's like walking into Oscar the grouch's house, this place is huge! There were seating for days and it was still pretty packed. Wow what didn't I love from this place!! The parking is super spacious, no need to drive around for parking even though it was booked and busy inside. The staff is so very sweet. Our waitress was the sweetest person I think I've ever met? She made amazing recommendations, made us feel welcome, just 10/10 there. We got our food super quickly! I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and was pleasantly surprised at the beast placed before me! They are not skimpy at all with their portion size. The burrito was filled to the brim with egg, chorizo, big pieces of onion, and green pepper (which is not my favorite and I could've done without but that's just personal preference!) the hashbrows were cooked perfectly- not a soggy piece in sight! The portions are huge for this plate though, so after focusing on the hash browns I had no room left so I would suggest sharing this plate. The pancakes were HUGE! They were a weeeee bit dry, but douse them in butter and syrup they went down just fine! The price for everything was not bad at all. Everything from the moment we walked in to when we left was such a lovely experience. We were sat by the lovely hostess and given menus. The menu was quite large with a lot of different options. I chose the 3rd special with French toast and links plus a side of buttermilk pancakes. The portion sizes are huge so sharing is definitely a must. The French toast was amazing. The toast was crispy and had a delicious buttery taste. The waitress was super sweet and funny and she made my time there excellent. I did, indeed, feel like family. It's right off the entrance to Alameda so definitely worth a stop for brunch! read more

Many a times, I had seen the line out the door on weekends at Jim's. The other day, we were hungry for breakfast and didn't want to visit our usual haunts, so we drove to Jim's. They have a parking lot to the left of the restaurant, another bonus! It wasn't super busy when we walked in, maybe four or five other tables in use. We were told to pick a table and menus were presented as soon as we sat down and drink orders were taken. We both ordered coffee. The menu is an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. We were there for breakfast, so we didn't pay much attention to lunch items. My standard order for breakfast restaurants is Chicken Fried Steak, Eggs over easy, Hash Browns, Biscuit and Gravy. For some unknown reason, when the server took my order, the last thing I said to her was, "lotsa gravy all over everything". And if you look at my picture, the only place where there wasn't any gravy was on my biscuit. And it was all delicious! She got Corned Beef Hash with Eggs and Hash Browns with Wheat Toast. She also enjoyed her breakfast and was quite happy that her toast came buttered on both sides. These were great large breakfasts with lots of good food. We both ended up taking some home for breakfast the next day. Even the coffee was pretty good, something that's not always true at diners. What a treat! I met a friend at Jim's today and Dimitri was so sweet to share briefly how Jim's is his family legacy because I mentioned how he's been working there a long time. Such a sentimental story and connection to his roots. Loved the decorations. We decided to sit at a table today. Super clean and tidy even with a napkin dispenser there. I rarely make time to stop by Jim's anymore but I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Teresa was our waitress today. Patient and attentive to detail especially since my friend is on a strict no fat diet. His salad looked delicious despite his special requests. But Oooow I have to rave about my Reuben sandwich, so moist and not too greasy which was a win in my book. Also, because I was feeling adventurous I tried the ube tower waffle which will be available until Friday, 12/12/25. That hit the spot with the ube syrup and fresh strawberries and bananas along with walnuts. Overall, an amazing experience. This is one of my husbands favorite breakfast spots but I personally don't enjoy it as much. We order to-go on lazy Sunday mornings for us and the kids as it's local and convenient. I wish the scrambled eggs would have a dash of seasoning, a little garlic salt or black pepper. They're always so thick and bland. A little ketchup fixes that but I wish the eggs itself had something to it and I'm not a cheese fan to add a bunch to my eggs. The bacon always comes burnt so we stopped ordering it and opted for sausage links which are delicious and different from what we'd have at home. The pancakes are a great size as well as the waffles but also pretty bland on flavor - thankfully I have strawberry syrup at home and we order To-go so it's a quick fix. If you're into plain Jane eggs and pancakes when going out to eat, this is your spot (and a reason why my husband enjoys it so much, he like a simple breakfast) If you're one that likes to go out and have something different than what you can make at home, this isn't the spot for you. They are an American breakfast diner and that's exactly what their food is so in that sense they'd get a 5 star but for me personally I like a little extra when going out to eat hence my rating. We sat at a booth by the cash register and it was very uncomfortable. The middle of my side had some stuffing missing which made it slope in the middle. I just had to sit on the edge. As for food, you'll have traditional breakfasts like omelettes, pancakes, hash browns, eggs any style, while for lunch and early supper, you'll choose from sandwiches, burgers, steak, fried chicken, pasta, etc... if you're looking for coffee shop faire - Jim's will likely have it along with a decent cup of coffee. I ordered our breakfast on a Saturday morning. It's so sad that when I got home our toast bread are all burnt. So, I called the restaurant and I told the lady that answered the phone the situation. Of course I'm not so happy about it. I said to her, can I talked to your manager, she said that she is the manager, she said to me that I'm so aggressive and she's busy with the customers, I asked her what's her name and she hung up the phone. I had to drive back to the restaurant, unfortunately when I walked in, I heard her say " I'm going in the back. I guess she didn't want to talk to me. I told the front the situation and a nice lady says " I'll change it for you " I have to asked someone what is the manager's name. A manager needs to know how to handle situations like this, don't hung up the phone because you are busy. I'm a paying customer too. May be the owner needs to pay attention how your employees interact with customers. read more

So it came on a bed of sautéed spinach, covered in lots of hollandaise sauce, and served with crispy hash browns! Crab cake had lots of real crab meat chunks and seasoned well! I love the huge load of sautéed spinach they added as I needed my daily intake of greens! They are not shy with that hollandaise sauce and they executed it fairly well! Hash browns were so crispy I licked that plate so quickly! This dish tasted so good that I would come here again and order this for the price too, well worth it! Service / It was okaaaay.
