Been wanting to visit this place for the longest time. Came last weekend and will not return, unfortunately due to sub par dining experience and food quality/presentation. Was really hoping for a better experience. Wait time = Reasonable Customer service and dining experience = Poor/unsatisfactory. Unfriendly and frazzled server complained how busy it was and refused to do more to assist us -- didn't even try. Server looked annoyed with an inquiry and got a manager for help -- we didn't even ask for a manager. I hope the owner invests in these servers and gives them an opportunity to compete the ServSafe course. Or maybe just re-training them on food service. Food = Very disappointing, unsatisfactory and was expecting more considering the pictures on their IG looked pretty good. The food was not hot (I'm pretty sure they were below 140 degrees). I recently dined at Café Jolie in Alameda and ordered the Jolie's Mix, which included potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, and pancakes. I also ordered a side of fruit and two orange juices. Unfortunately, the entire meal was disappointing. The potatoes did not taste freshly made and were extremely greasy. The pancakes and eggs were also greasy, and the bacon was fried so hard that it was not appealing or enjoyable to eat. I was still charged $30 and paid the bill because I did not want anyone to think I was simply trying to get a free meal. However, the quality of the food was unacceptable for the price. I left extremely disappointed and will never dine here again. I also cannot recommend Café Jolie to anyone else. Looked and taste like Leftovers/Scrapes! The setup is mostly an outdoor restaurant vibe with a kitchen operating behind an industrial tent, which was nice enough, though nothing absolutely blew me away. The staff and service here are incredibly friendly, polite, and welcoming! I also thoroughly enjoyed the champagne. For food, the hamburger was really good and hit the spot, even if it was a little on the pricier side at just over $19. However, do not order the beignets. I've had beignets all across different continents and restaurants worldwide, and these were at the absolute bottom of the list. They tasted like basic, quick-fried puff pastry with powdered sugar thrown on top. Overall, it's a friendly spot with a solid burger. We came here for brunch. It was a beautiful day and we were able to sit outside comfortably. We were sat right away and the server came up and asked what we would like to drink. We asked for a Matcha Latte and Iced Tea. About 5 minutes later she came back to the table and asked again what we wanted. And it took about 15 minutes for the drinks to get to our table. Following the drinks we ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and Monte Cristo. Both options tasted great. The only thing was that the potatoes that were paired with the Benedict tasted like they had been reheated. They were super dry and wilted. The others tasted fine. We told the server, but she was so frazzled so I guess it didn't matter. I liked this place, but honestly would probably not come back due to their lack of consistency and service. read more

My friends and I came for brunch on Sunday at 11am and had no problem grabbing a table outside, the hostess was great and we didn't have to wait! However, we did have to wait 40 minutes for our server to come talk to us to put in our order. It was frustrating watching tables who got sat after us, order and get their food before we even were spoken to. As a former server, I have a hard time writing this because sometimes we do just get triple-sat or in the weeds so I do try to give other grace but it didn't look busy and there's no reason she couldn't have come by to say "I'm sorry I'm really busy, can I get your drink order?"or "I'm sorry I see you're ready, I'll be right with you." A little communication and acknowledgment goes a long way. When we eventually ordered and our food came out quickly which was nice. The beignets were so soft and fluffy - definitely recommend. I got the eggs benedict which were spectacular, the hollandaise sauce is really good! But my side of potatoes you could tell had just been sitting under the heat lamp getting over dried out and rock hard, inedible. They were awful and it was careless to have served that up on a plate instead of making new ones. Our server, Jubilee (?), never once checked on us after we got our food and we had to wave her down to get our check. We waited some more but she never came by to collect our payment so we had to walk to the register inside to check out. I was pleasantly surprised at my visit at Cafe Jolie. The reviews kinda had my expectations low but I was very pleased with the flavors and so was my boyfriend whose birthday we were celebrating. First the outdoor seating was plenty and sunny or shaded options there was lots of seating outside and perfect for my dog (the waiter brought us water for her which was nice and unexpected). The hostess and waitress were very very kind with nice smiles and good vibes. I read many comments saying the potatoes were inedible and I strongly disagree, maybe we caught them at a good hour around 12:30 on a Saturday but the potatoes were perfect! Not dry, and actually seasoned with a little chili but not spicy! It was soo yummy I kept stealing some of my boyfriends who ordered the smoked salmon omelette, the eggs were fluffy and soft and the salmon added excellent flavor. My French toast was ok, a little wet inside for me and kinda had an eggy taste which I personally don't like but I understand that's the risk when ordering French toast, however I thought there could've been more fruit or seasoning to it. It's also a bummer that you have to pay $7 extra for 3 pieces of bacon it would be nice if the plate came with bacon and eggs. The beignets were fluffy and delicious with the chocolate sauce which again shouldn't be an extra $3 charge in my opinion. The waitress took off the mimosa for my bfs birthday which was very nice. I would absolutely come back and happy to rate 5/5 stars. I arrived around 8:30am on a Saturday so there was plenty of street parking (free before 9am), and I was seated right away. I ordered a large lavender latte (it's very heavy on the lavender syrup, and delicious). I also order The Huevos Rancheros (egg fried card and no sour cream). It was...okay. The corn tortillas are not fried, which is what I was expecting as I'm used to this dish with the crunch of fried tortilla (or tortilla chips). That really through me off, and while eating it, there wasn't much seasoning. Service was great as well. I came here for a Sunday brunch with my two beloved college friends and had a lovely time. There was very little wait to be seated, but the waitstaff were quite busy, which was understandable. Our personal server was incredibly friendly (small petite Asian woman, I apologize for not remembering your name!!) and such a pleasure to speak to. I ordered the croque monsieur with the potato salad - I didn't end up using the sauce because the cheese was heavy enough, but it was delightfully greasy and rich. The potato salad was light and balanced it out wonderfully. I also had a bite of my friend's omelette, which was super tasty. We also ordered the beignets - the dough was a wonderful texture, and the chocolate ganache on the side was an excellent addition. Overall, would love to come back and try their other dishes sometime!! I used to frequent Cafe Jolie often. The quality of the food and portions made it really difficult to justify a $40 breakfast. The tofu veggie scramble lacked flavor. I had to add salt, pepper and hot sauce. Had to season twice considering the first plate had a hair in the food discovered AFTER I'd been eating it! The portions are on the small side for the $17.50 price. Also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes. Seasoned well, no onions or bell peppers--just plain, but the portion was tiny for $7. The chai tea latte was good. When I reached for my glass of water, it had something floating in it. In the end, didn't offer to comp even something small for the hair in the food. This place has really gone downhill. Such a disappointing visit. I won't be returning. So many other places in Alameda with so much more to offer! read more

This place is a gem. I love this restaurant for breakfast/ brunch. My favorite thing to order is the crabcake benedict. While I've order this exact item at many other restaurants, nothing compares to the way Café Jolie makes it. Instead of an overly battered crabcake, they use more crab than batter. It's late yet filling and one of the best eggs benedict I've ever had! I also love the french toast. I've ordered both, and I will say they each have their own added benefits. The regular ones are thick and feeling while the croissant ones are light, but still taste amazing, especially topped with the fruit. This place seemed to be a community favorite, because it was always packed when I passed by. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which would always be full. After seeing a reel about it as well, I decided to try it out recently. I think due to the amount of seating they have, you don't actually have to wait long. I was seated within 5 minutes, which I appreciated because I thought I would have to wait a while. I ended up getting the monte cristo, with a side of potato. The monte cristo is a ham & turkey with cheese sandwich that is egg-washed and fried, and then topped with powdered sugar. I hadn't had a monte cristo in such a long time, so I was pretty excited to eat this. Topped with the jam, the sweet and savory were quite satisfying. The sandwich while crispy on the outside, was soft and moist on the inside, much like the potatoes. I do wish the powdered sugar was layered more evenly, as some of the pieces barely had any. And if I'll be picky, I think one of the pieces was slightly burnt. But overall, it was a lovely breakfast. The cafe is super busy but the food doesn't take too long to come out. Depending on the day there may be a wait but not for long. Nice place and one of our regular places to have a no rush casual meal. I'm from out of town and was only in the area for my dress fitting not far from this place. I was with my mom and best friend and we went to look for a brunch place near the dress shop. We stumbled on this spot and stopped in for brunch. I had basic French toast, bacon, and potatoes and eggs. It was chilly, so I pulled the sun shade down to get some warmth, but the hostess came over and said we couldn't do that, even though we were the only ones out there. Our food came out hot and fresh but we were so hungry we barely took a beat to snap photos. I loved my Monte Cristo so much but keep in mind they only serve it as a sweet option; not both sweet (with powdered sugar & syrup) and savory (with lettuce and tomato) like most places do. The food is incredible but pack your patience when you come because the wait to get a table is on average a good 15 mins and then to get your food takes awhile as well. I play league pinball nearby at the Pacific Pinball Museum. Most Wednesday nights for the past four or five years, I roll up around 6pm and park in the metered public parking lot behind the museum. Menus and water were served. We ordered coffee when our server came over. The menu isn't huge but there were plenty of items that piqued our interest. The pancakes were forgotten. She got a: Monte Christo - 5 - Very lightly fried, buttery, great crunchy texture, perfect portions of meats and cheese. Served with an excellent jam (homemade?) and Country Potatoes. I ordered a: Crab Cake Benedict - 4 - It was good, but not quite what I was looking for. We were in San Francisco last week and got some English Muffins from Arsicault Bakery. They may not have had the same "nooks & crannies" that one might expect from a Thomas's English Muffin, but the texture and flavor were spot on, served with just butter or dressed with mashed avocado. The egg was poached just a tad harder than I prefer and with-it being Dungeness Crab season, I was (insert wishful thinking here) really hoping for fresh crab meat. Still, would I order it again? Probably, but I'd ask for some minor adjustments on the cook time of the eggs and a bit more hollandaise sauce. Service was great. Coffee was refilled. Atmosphere was enjoyable. I had a Strawberry Mimosa that was delicious as they use a house puree which made the Strawberry flavor pop. I ordered Huevos Racheros which came with black beans and house made guacamole. Beans were very flavorful but my over eat eggs were cooked perfectly. My dates had salads and sandwiches.
