Nibs on Market St in West Oakland, Hannah and Alex running the whole operation and you can feel that it matters to them. Monterey Jack omelet is what everyone talks about and for good reason, fluffy, proper cheese pull, comes with hash browns that are actually crispy not just pale and limp. French toast with strawberries is the other move. Portions are real, prices are still reasonable, room is cozy with a solid salt and pepper shaker collection that sneaks up on you. There's a comfort you feel when you walk into Nibs; when Alex and Hannah greet you, it doesn't feel like an obligation. It feels like a relative welcoming you back into their home, sheltering and nourishing you so you can survive the rest of the day. The music which plays is always absolutely lovely, and somehow there's a sense of community within Nibs so that even if you're in a party of one, you're truly never eating alone. The prices? Magnificent. The food? Coma-inducing. The ambience? Like a glass of warm milk. Don't come here expecting Michelin star dining. Come here expecting delicious food made by good people. Grits and eggs were so delicious I never got a picture before I ate it all :) I love how every single table has a unique salt and pepper shaker set, ours had a cute pair of cats. I was thinking about my meal for the rest of the day because it was just so good, everything was homemade to order; you have a clear view of the kitchen as you eat. My only suggestion is hiring just one more person, since the wait time is quite long. Currently, one person takes all the orders (including phone), hands out checks, runs the food and drinks while one other person cooks everything. It's a small "hole in the wall" type place in West Oakland & I went in with no expectations... but I was very pleased! It's small but eclectic vibes made the place cozy. I love a simple breakfast, and this place has all the staples done well. I ordered a lemonade, theirs was on the tart side but I liked it! I also ordered 2 sausage patties, extra crispy hash browns & scrambled eggs w/ sourdough toast. It came out hot, with a slice of cantaloupe on the plate (nice touch) & I stayed sitting there until all that was left on my plate were scraps of toast. I woke up craving a waffle, eggs, bacon and hash browns and Nib's had just what I wanted. I ordered the waffle plate and added hash browns. I also ordered a latte and I was pleasantly surprised that they sprinkled cinnamon on top. I typically have to ask for cinnamon to be added. Food was good and service was stellar. This is a cozy spot in west Oakland. Parking across the street if you're lucky. The service is friendly and very welcoming. I had breakfast with my gf and it was very cozy. I had Corned Beef Hash and eggs and my gf got pancakes , eggs and bacon. We will definitely come back. Food was great and too was the decor and ownership. Can't wait. read more

I once again saw people turn around and leave on the bases of to go only. Some people may see a missed opportunity, I saw a different way of seeing things. I don't think this is an inconvenience. 1 Star I wish I could give zero stars after the deeply discriminatory experience I had at Nib's Café in West Oakland. I came in with my trained medical service dog--clearly marked--because I live with an invisible disability. Immediately, a woman working there (possibly the owner) loudly confronted me in front of other customers, demanding a license for my dog (which is not required under federal ADA law). I politely showed her the ADA guidelines on my phone and sat down, hoping that would end the misunderstanding. Instead, she escalated--refusing to take my order, yelling across the café, and even going up to a Black male customer to try to get him to ask me to leave. She kept walking past me, repeating that I couldn't eat there unless I gave her "proof," even though I already had. Eventually, she called the police on me--all for sitting quietly with my legally protected service animal. What hurt just as much as her discrimination was the silence from everyone else in the café. They all watched it happen. No one said a word. Living with an invisible disability is already hard. But being publicly shamed, harassed, and threatened for it is another level of pain. I walked into this café hoping for a peaceful meal. I left feeling humiliated and dehumanized. Disability discrimination is real--even in so-called community spaces. Do better, Nib's. read more

5/5 high recommend. Total hidden gem in west Oakland at the old Emma's fried fish spot if you old enough to remember. Looks like a moms & pop spot with really good breakfast! Menu had a lot of choices and options for sides. Big thick bacon.. yummy sausage links. Definitely good quality. Definitely will be back again to try out other menu selections. I'm tempted to follow the typical recipe website playbook by telling you a long story about my childhood diner and then hiding the actual recipe/review beneath a huge wall of text and ads (while making the "skip to recipe" button super tiny).. On Saturdays, they only do to-go. That was fine by me as I had a puppy waiting for me at home. I swear, I put him in his crate for 35 minutes so I can go get gas and pick up a meal and this boy whines when I get back like I left him for a day without food or water. Anyway, the food was great. They are soon raising their prices which they posted (I mean, inflation) but even when they do, I think I'm coming back here. I got a mini breakfast and an OJ and left a pretty good tip and it was very reasonable. Btw, if that's the mini breakfast, American's are eating too much. I got a heap of home fries, an egg, 2 sausage and 2 slices of buttered rye toast. While I waited I saw one customer come in and was greeted by first name. When I left the woman working there was very kind while handing me my food. My dog waited for me to finish just so he could justify begging me to lick the plate. He enjoyed the egg yolk. read more

They are on Market St. Nice ambiance, outdoor dining, too. We drove down San Pablo Ave from El Cerrito, it took 21 minutes on a weekday during rush hour. Not bad! read more

Hmm this did not hit the mark. Firstly the neighborhood is a little rough. Secondly the food didn't have any flavor. It seems like they cook completely omitting salt and pepper. I understand everyone has different tastes but a basic amount of salt and pepper should be used. I ordered an omelet which came with home fried potatoes. The omelet was okay but bland. But the potatoes were inedible. I think they boil them then put it on the stove for char marks. Would not return. read more
