What can I say about Nibs that hasn't been said already? The place is truly an Oakland institution. There's a comfort you feel when you walk into Nibs; when Alex and Hannah greet you, it doesn't feel like an obligation. It feels like a relative welcoming you back into their home, sheltering and nourishing you so you can survive the rest of the day. The music which plays is always absolutely lovely, and somehow there's a sense of community within Nibs so that even if you're in a party of one, you're truly never eating alone. The prices? Magnificent. The food? Coma-inducing. The ambience? Like a glass of warm milk. Don't come here expecting Michelin star dining. Come here expecting delicious food made by good people. It's a small "hole in the wall" type place in West Oakland & I went in with no expectations... but I was very pleased! It's small but eclectic vibes made the place cozy. I love a simple breakfast, and this place has all the staples done well. I ordered a lemonade, theirs was on the tart side but I liked it! I also ordered 2 sausage patties, extra crispy hash browns & scrambled eggs w/ sourdough toast. It came out hot, with a slice of cantaloupe on the plate (nice touch) & I stayed sitting there until all that was left on my plate were scraps of toast. Grits and eggs were so delicious I never got a picture before I ate it all :) I love how every single table has a unique salt and pepper shaker set, ours had a cute pair of cats. I was thinking about my meal for the rest of the day because it was just so good, everything was homemade to order; you have a clear view of the kitchen as you eat. My only suggestion is hiring just one more person, since the wait time is quite long. Currently, one person takes all the orders (including phone), hands out checks, runs the food and drinks while one other person cooks everything. This is a cozy spot in west Oakland. Parking across the street if you're lucky. The service is friendly and very welcoming. I had breakfast with my gf and it was very cozy. I woke up craving a waffle, eggs, bacon and hash browns and Nib's had just what I wanted. I ordered the waffle plate and added hash browns. I also ordered a latte and I was pleasantly surprised that they sprinkled cinnamon on top. I typically have to ask for cinnamon to be added. Food was good and service was stellar. They have moved around over the years in the East Bay but everything has always been delicious and large. Good Americana food and some fusion stuff. Highly recommended . I love this place. There are not that many dinner style restaurants around here left and this is the place. I order an omelet plate and portions are huge! Food was great. I'm tempted to follow the typical recipe website playbook by telling you a long story about my childhood diner and then hiding the actual recipe/review beneath a huge wall of text and ads (while making the "skip to recipe" button super tiny).. On Saturdays, they only do to-go. That was fine by me as I had a puppy waiting for me at home. I swear, I put him in his crate for 35 minutes so I can go get gas and pick up a meal and this boy whines when I get back like I left him for a day without food or water. Anyway, the food was great. They are soon raising their prices which they posted (I mean, inflation) but even when they do, I think I'm coming back here. I got a mini breakfast and an OJ and left a pretty good tip and it was very reasonable. Btw, if that's the mini breakfast, American's are eating too much. I got a heap of home fries, an egg, 2 sausage and 2 slices of buttered rye toast. While I waited I saw one customer come in and was greeted by first name. When I left the woman working there was very kind while handing me my food. My dog waited for me to finish just so he could justify begging me to lick the plate. He enjoyed the egg yolk. read more

We were excited to find Nibs in Oakland after dining at Nibs in El Cerrito and Alex's Giant Burger in Richmond. Hanna and Alex are turning out the same great breakfasts. They are on Market St. Nice ambiance, outdoor dining, too. We drove down San Pablo Ave from El Cerrito, it took 21 minutes on a weekday during rush hour. Not bad! read more

Hmm this did not hit the mark. Firstly the neighborhood is a little rough. Secondly the food didn't have any flavor. It seems like they cook completely omitting salt and pepper. I understand everyone has different tastes but a basic amount of salt and pepper should be used. I ordered an omelet which came with home fried potatoes. The omelet was okay but bland. But the potatoes were inedible. I think they boil them then put it on the stove for char marks. Would not return. read more

We were looking for a place to get some food about 1100 after leaving the San Francisco area and YELP recommended this place. We waited for quite awhile for the food to arrive but our party enjoyed what we ordered. My wife is a pancake aficionado and she was not disappointed. I had breakfast (good) my son in law had a mushroom burger and we had no complaints. Nibs is one of my favorite lunch/brunch spots (and it doesn't hurt that it is only a few blocks away). My partner and I have tried many dishes and all are fantastic: beef teriyaki, cheeseburgers, soups of the day, omelettes, waffles, french toast, and sandwiches. My favorite is the "super" sandwich which is a turkey melt always cooked to perfection. It is tiny, so it fills up quickly and can feel a bit claustrophobic. This is not an issue, when going on off-times. The place is run by Hannah and Alex, who are nice as can be, although it is just Alex cooking and Hannah serving, so please be patient. It's worth it. Lastly, I would be remiss in not to mention that the portions are enormous, so come hungry. read more
