My friends and I got cheese fries, regular fries, a veggie burger, a regular cheeseburger, and a hotdog. Safe to say, everything was devoured and we even went back for seconds. I think my favorite option is getting a vanilla soft serve cone for later. The Westerner Burger was pretty solid. It captures the essence of a typical "western/cowboy" burger with the BBQ sauce and crispy shallots. I appreciate that they did not put too much BBQ sauce because that always drenches the buns and makes the eating process very messy. The fries were also great - fresh potatoes? Corn fritters were underwhelming for its price point, would've been fine not getting it. While the food was pretty solid, the extremely long wait and the packed seats are what makes my rating go down. Lovely's is a very popular spot, even for a weekday dinner. The vibes are immaculate. It offers both indoor and outdoor seats, very spacious. However, because of the amount of people, the wait in line was a bit more than 30 minutes. Then adds another wait to get the food. On top of all the waiting, seating options become limited and you will most likely be stuck with the outdoor tables, which can be unfortunate on a very cold evening. We came back twice during our visit to Oakland. It's a short walk from the Kissel Oakland. The loveliest thing about Lovely's are their hotdogs. We ordered two: -Coney Island ($8.25): chili, cheese sauce, mustard, onion -Chicago dawg ($8.50): tomato, onion, sports pepper, relish, mustard, pickle spear, celery salt The hotdogs are snappy and they don't fold under topping pressure. The toppings were just extra to an already good hotdog. I also had the Westener burger ($12.50). It's American cheese, bacon, crispy shallot, pickle, lettuce, tomato, bbq, on a sesame bun. It was hard to fit everything into one bite and felt a little unmanageable to eat. Everything just kinda fell apart after I unwrapped it. Twas good, but hard to eat. I am an occasional burger eater and this place is one of my favorites. Our last visit was for my son's birthday and he picked it himself. What's there to dislike? I feel like the Coney dog is my favorite chili cheese dog in the bay. I've been to the Oakland one and the SF one and every time I go I need to get a chili cheese dog. Hot chicken sandwich was also AMAZING. Stayed nice and crispy on my walk back home. It was just the right amount of dry spice too, top tier seasoning skills. No complaints on the burger either - just an ideal burger that you can stuff your face in. Fries are perfectly salty - the best accompaniment to this meal. It gets pretty crowded, but it's worth the wait to me. It's super nice sitting outdoors next to the brewery if it's not too chilly out. tldr: Lovely's lives up to the hype! I always get the Drive Thru Burger, and it is phenomenal. Everything from the perfectly cooked patty with those classic crispy, lacy edges, to the soft bun and the special sauce--it is the definition of what a smash burger should be. I've gone back at least 10 times for it ! Side note about their chicken sandwich that my partner orders all the time. She gets the spicy and most times it's very spicy. There have been a few times when it was (in my opinion) the perfect level, right between medium and hot, but that was an anomaly and most of the times it's just been very hot. Now for the reality check on a weekend evening: I got in line around 7:00 PM on a Saturday, and the wait was exactly what you should expect for a spot this popular. I waited for about 20 minutes just to place my order. While the line moves steadily, be prepared to practice patience! The food was good, I've been wanting to come for a while now finally made our way down because The Teen and I were going to First Sunday at OMCA. It took a few laps around the block to find a parking space and almost gave up, but we didn't obviously. Counter service was good, there was a lot of people, but not too much to handle. Love the outdoor sitting space and the tunes that brought me back to the 80's. Absolutely love Lovely's! We've been here many times and even better it's attached to Two Pitcher's Brewing (because what goes better with burgers than beers). The burgers are always solid! It's a tasty smash burger and some different options for toppings. My favorite is always The Westerner (bbq sauced - used to have onion rings but now it's crispy shallots) or the Drive Through (more classic burger toppings). The only con could be the long line for the food (but pro tip, have a friend grab you a beer while you wait). Tried the corn fritters for the first time recently and they were also bomb. I got the hot dog for my son which was also good, but I'd say the burgers is where it's at/what Lovely's is known for. The chicken sandos are also good! There's plenty of outdoor seating and indoor though it can get really crowded on Friday's and weekends. Only street parking. This was the perfect lunch after a long walk around lake Merit! I ordered the hot chicken and it was so good! The fried chicken was perfectly tender, not dried out at all. And the fry on it was light and crispy and didn't taste greasy. It was definitely spicy, but well within my spice tolerance. Flavorful without being punishing. The slaw was a perfect counterpoint. This sandwich was perfect, I just wish it was a larger serving since it was $15. The boyfriend ordered the drive thru and added on bacon. I thought it was a good burger, but I liked my fried chicken sandwich more. Boyfriend also thought the sandwich was better. It just had more texture and flavor. We ordered fries with the works and omg im so glad we ordered it. That was the best cheese sauce I've had all year! The service was nice. Since moving to Oakland, we've been told numerous times that this place is a staple... almost quintessentially the Town. It's a small spot, so when we first tried going and driving there, it was a bust. Definitely don't expect great parking, and take public transit if possible. The line was long to get burgers, but the great part is that you can grab a beer with your friend and drink in line! Two Pitchers had great brews to pair with the burgers, and though we waited about an hour in line (on a Friday night), we got our burgers super quick after ordering. My favorite part of Lovely's is the outdoor seating. Although not conducive for the winter because it's cold, when I came in the summer, it was absolutely amazing. And during the summer, they usually have a line all the way to the gate. My favorite thing to eat was the regular cheese burger and fries. I gave it a 8/10. I went back and tried the chicken sandwich and it was a 6/10. I feel like I could really taste the grease on that one. I also tried the fish sandwich and it reminded me of an unseasoned McDonald's fish fillet. I gave it a 5/10 because if you take it home and add seasoning, it can probably be amazing. WOW!!! If you're indecisive on where to eat like I am and near downtown Oakland I would highly recommend choosing Lovely's! I got the drive thru burger and the corn fritters. Fresh soft bun, seasoned medium well meat that's not too salty, gooey cheese and a big ole fried onion. Get the corn fritters with their special sauce! Might be the best burger I've had in the bay to date. There will likely be a long line but that just tells you how good it is. Wait is worth it. read more

if you enjoy a good classic burger, you're going to really like this place. A bit pricey for what I think is the same equivalent as in-and-out in quality ( they're simple burger, and fries ran me up $17), but it has a great atmosphere. Especially for large parties like families and large group groups. While I was there Wednesday night, they were hosting atrivia night. Cute communal events like that are the reason I would want to come back. read more

I though Lovely's was okay. I stopped by on a Saturday night and easily spent $50 here. At first, I ordered a drive thru burger, fritters, fries, and the comeback sauce. Later I came back for cheese fries and a soft serve. The cheese for the fries tasted like the cheese I ate as a child from those cheese sticks/crackers. Definitely okay and obviously convenient if you're there drinking with some friends. Staff were super nice though. read more

I'm not sure if the Owner or Chef has changed from back when Lovely's was located in a bar on Piedmont. I loved the burgers back then. The OG burgers were thicker and had more substance. I think the new location makes Smash Burgers so the meat is thinner and the burger comes with a special house made sauce. I ordered a Smash Burger and an order of fries. My Buddy was thinking of ordering a double burger but decided to get a single burger. We both thought the burgers were good but my buddy wished he had ordered the double burger. He was still hungry after eating a single. The fries were fresh, hot, no crispness but good. They used to sell really good onion rings but they no longer sell them. The Western Burger has an onion ring in the burger so we asked if we could buy an order but they said it wasn't on the menu at the time. I might try the Western Burger and a hot dog next trip. I'm hoping they bring onion rings back. read more
