Not quite what I expected to find in Downtown Oakland--and I mean that in the best possible way. I definitely expected the vibe, but it's nice when the food actually matches it! Lately, Oakland has been giving us plenty of misses, but this one is clearly a HIT. Everything we tried was on point, and now I'm already looking forward to coming back to try the fish sandwich. i have been here once and my burger was fresh and crisp not sloppy,ugly,badly handled like it was pulled out the trash bin and wraped up to resale . i orderd an og burger and a drive thu burger and 2 sides to go and in less than 5 minutes it was ready clearly a red flag. second we only live 2or 3 minutes away by the time we got home the only thing that was fresh out the fryer were the 2 sides we orderd with our burgers fries and hush puppies ,the 2 burgers on the other hand were soggy,and mushed in like a dieper it looked like someone was very upset or drunk making our burgers . watever the case was it felt personal. if this is how employees and cooks show you how they realy feel handing out 2 burgers that were cleary sitting in place and soggy mushy messy i get the message and i will never spend a dime at this place again. and for the clients that get praised and get served a well elaborated burger i dont know how you do it but for us with this sloppy mess they handed us in our bag we were basicly told to F off! read more

The Westerner Burger was pretty solid. It captures the essence of a typical "western/cowboy" burger with the BBQ sauce and crispy shallots. I appreciate that they did not put too much BBQ sauce because that always drenches the buns and makes the eating process very messy. The fries were also great - fresh potatoes? Corn fritters were underwhelming for its price point, would've been fine not getting it. While the food was pretty solid, the extremely long wait and the packed seats are what makes my rating go down. Lovely's is a very popular spot, even for a weekday dinner. The vibes are immaculate. It offers both indoor and outdoor seats, very spacious. However, because of the amount of people, the wait in line was a bit more than 30 minutes. Then adds another wait to get the food. On top of all the waiting, seating options become limited and you will most likely be stuck with the outdoor tables, which can be unfortunate on a very cold evening. Wow. I was so blown away by Lovely's! The food and drinks are really great! I feel like i'm at an old dive bar with all the small vintage details. The service is also amazing. I had a whole conversation with the server about my nails (little things like this make the experience more personal). My friends and I got cheese fries, regular fries, a veggie burger, a regular cheeseburger, and a hotdog. Safe to say, everything was devoured and we even went back for seconds. I think my favorite option is getting a vanilla soft serve cone for later. Food was tasty, but I completely forgot to take pictures. First time at Lovely's. We sat outside, and the atmosphere was great. This is the perfect spot for large groups hanging out with friends, but it also works well for a casual date night. Service is legit here. I don't eat beef, so I decided to try the Impossible Burger. I highly recommend ordering the Westerner Burger with an Impossible patty. They grill the patty thin and crispy, and it's probably the best Impossible burger I've had in a long time. We came back twice during our visit to Oakland. It's a short walk from the Kissel Oakland. The loveliest thing about Lovely's are their hotdogs. We ordered two: -Coney Island ($8.25): chili, cheese sauce, mustard, onion -Chicago dawg ($8.50): tomato, onion, sports pepper, relish, mustard, pickle spear, celery salt The hotdogs are snappy and they don't fold under topping pressure. The toppings were just extra to an already good hotdog. I also had the Westener burger ($12.50). It's American cheese, bacon, crispy shallot, pickle, lettuce, tomato, bbq, on a sesame bun. It was hard to fit everything into one bite and felt a little unmanageable to eat. Everything just kinda fell apart after I unwrapped it. Twas good, but hard to eat. The Chili Willie - My wife's order?!?! And this was good. The jalapenos gave it the perfect kick. I told my wife I am here for the beer, and as light eaters I just wanted to share something with them. Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich - No surprise my daughter's order. Well she wanted your sold out Fish & Chips (which is weird because I think she ate that last night also...?). This was also made-to-order fresh! Explored this modern area in Oakland and came across Lovelys. I was intrigued by the crowd sitting around the beer garden and decided to go check out this spot. This spot is connected with Two Pitchers Brewery and its honestly a really cool hangout spot. You can get your beer and your burgers/hotdogs all in one spot. Best part, they also have soft serve. Fish and chips are awesome EXCEPT they don't have malt vinegar or even any plain apple cider vinegar to put on them. Never been to a fish and chips place that didn't have vinegar. It's just not right! They were tasty, but I had to take them home to eat them the way I like them and I had already bought a Coke that I couldn't take with me because they have no to go cups. tldr: Lovely's lives up to the hype! I always get the Drive Thru Burger, and it is phenomenal. Everything from the perfectly cooked patty with those classic crispy, lacy edges, to the soft bun and the special sauce--it is the definition of what a smash burger should be. I've gone back at least 10 times for it ! Side note about their chicken sandwich that my partner orders all the time. She gets the spicy and most times it's very spicy. There have been a few times when it was (in my opinion) the perfect level, right between medium and hot, but that was an anomaly and most of the times it's just been very hot. Now for the reality check on a weekend evening: I got in line around 7:00 PM on a Saturday, and the wait was exactly what you should expect for a spot this popular. I waited for about 20 minutes just to place my order. While the line moves steadily, be prepared to practice patience! Absolutely love Lovely's! We've been here many times and even better it's attached to Two Pitcher's Brewing (because what goes better with burgers than beers). The burgers are always solid! It's a tasty smash burger and some different options for toppings. My favorite is always The Westerner (bbq sauced - used to have onion rings but now it's crispy shallots) or the Drive Through (more classic burger toppings). The only con could be the long line for the food (but pro tip, have a friend grab you a beer while you wait). Tried the corn fritters for the first time recently and they were also bomb. I got the hot dog for my son which was also good, but I'd say the burgers is where it's at/what Lovely's is known for. The chicken sandos are also good! This was the perfect lunch after a long walk around lake Merit! I ordered the hot chicken and it was so good! The fried chicken was perfectly tender, not dried out at all. And the fry on it was light and crispy and didn't taste greasy. It was definitely spicy, but well within my spice tolerance. Flavorful without being punishing. The slaw was a perfect counterpoint. Since moving to Oakland, we've been told numerous times that this place is a staple... almost quintessentially the Town. It's a small spot, so when we first tried going and driving there, it was a bust. Definitely don't expect great parking, and take public transit if possible. My favorite part of Lovely's is the outdoor seating. Although not conducive for the winter because it's cold, when I came in the summer, it was absolutely amazing. And during the summer, they usually have a line all the way to the gate. My favorite thing to eat was the regular cheese burger and fries. I gave it a 8/10. I went back and tried the chicken sandwich and it was a 6/10. I feel like I could really taste the grease on that one. I also tried the fish sandwich and it reminded me of an unseasoned McDonald's fish fillet. I gave it a 5/10 because if you take it home and add seasoning, it can probably be amazing.
