I was here a few days ago for lunch with one of my girlfriend's and everything was absolutely terrible. For one, the crab egg rolls we ordered were frozen/still cold in the middle when they were clearly fried on the outside. Had to send those back which was unfortunate because they had somewhat of a nice flavor and the sweet chili sauce that went with them was good. For our main entree, I got the oxtails with mac and cheese and yams. The yams were extremely sugary, the mac and cheese was greasy and not creamy at all, and the oxtails were mainly just fat (not blaming them for this) and the gravy was entirely too thick. My friend ordered the Lil sis with lamb chops and they were super overcooked, they did have a nice flavor though. I will say, everything was also extremely overpriced which doesn't align with the portions. Not too mention I spent 6-7 dollars for a lemonade that wasn't even cold... My server was very nice and she offered to fix everything that she could for us but we just took it as it was, a loss. She slipped me a little note with her name "Lyric" for a review so I wanted to give her a little shoutout because she was so sweet! The cutest little girl with dimples! Anyways, I wished the food was better because I love supporting black owned businesses but coming here was NOT a Y's choice. Not for my pockets or my stomach, sorry.

Came to this restaurant on a spur the moment after my cousin's graduation with my whole family and I'm so glad we did! The food was truly soul food. I got the smothered turkey wings with cabbage and mac & cheese. I really enjoyed the turkey wings. They were so good. The portion sizes are amazing. I also got the lemonade, which was really sweet. Definitely needed to delete it a little bit for myself overall, the experience was really nice and the team was great. The ambience of the place felt very home like like a good old family reunion.

We got mixed reviews from others that have visited so we had to go taste & see for ourselves. Nice atmosphere, chill, welcoming vibe. Young staff left a lot to be desired. Plates & silverware & crab cracker tools & condiments should not have to be requested. An open, old, dry & crusty bottle of discolored hot sauce was placed on the table, unacceptable. Crab-cake egg rolls 3outta5 They were different but in a good way. They could use some veggies for texture but pretty good overall. Catfish & Cabbage 2.5outta5 The fish was fried & seasoned well. The cabbage left a lot to be desired. The flavor was off putting. Big Daddy 1outta5 It didn't live up to the price or description. 3 unseasoned shrimp instead of 5 jumbo prawns, the garlic butter wasn't fresh & was thick like a paste. Canned garlic looks & tastes vastly different than fresh. The lobster was salty & inedible. The crab was ok. Garlic noodles didn't have much garlic. Nothing was "smothered" in their signature garlic butter. Cocktails 2.5outta5 they were ok, good flavor not much liquor. Quality control is missing. Service & quality should align with the tab. #GoTaste&See Maybe not a wise choice...

Talk about disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the experience was chaotic and poorly managed. We weren't greeted when we entered, and when we were finally seated, our tables clearly still had food underneath from the previous party. That alone made a bad first impression. What also didn't make sense was the seating. Our group was placed at tables right next to each other while there were plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant. Why cram everyone together instead of spacing guests out for comfort? The pay-as-you-order system also felt odd. I'm not sure if that's because people leave before paying or before eating, but it definitely added to the strange experience. The biggest issue was the wait. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out, and we ordered pretty simple items. That kind of wait would be frustrating even if the food came out amazing--but it didn't. Our food wasn't even piping hot when it arrived. Flavor-wise, it was just okay. Nothing memorable. I ordered garlic-based items expecting that bold garlic punch, and it was seriously lacking. The food wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't justify the wait or the price. Speaking of price--everything felt overpriced. I understand prices have gone up everywhere, but $18 for shrimp (decent size, sure) and they still come with the shell on plus you pay extra for sides? That's hard to justify. I do appreciate that they offer a few halal options, which is nice to see. But at these prices, those options don't feel worth it either. Another concern: the floors were slippery in multiple spots. Even wearing tennis shoes, we were slipping. That's a safety issue that needs to be addressed. I originally wanted to come back to try some of their special plates because they sounded really good, but after waiting 45 minutes for basic menu items, I'm honestly scared to think how long those would take. Overall, between the poor service, lack of cleanliness, long wait times, mediocre food, slippery floors, and high prices, this was not a good experience. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning.

We came in for Sunday brunch. Everyone was very friendly from the moment we stepped in. I wish our server was more attentive. She gave us A LOT of time to go over the menu, then more time after she dropped off our food. We're thankful for the other ladies working who checked in on us and gave us more water. We were missing some items so we added it to our to-go order. We repeated our order twice and she repeated back to us and it was still wrong. We didn't realize it until we got home. Oh well. What we ordered: Oxtail & grits - 10/10 Very flavorful. Good portion size. Boozie Special - 8/10 Very flavorful but dry even with the gravy. BIG portion Candied yams - 7/10 Really sweet. We didn't order this but it was in our to-go bag. 2 piece fish meal - 10/10 Flavorful and portion was good. Bet it would've tasted better with the collard greens that didn't make it in our bag. Mac & cheese - 7/10 It was just ok. Misc: There is a lot of street parking and the bathrooms are clean. :-)

First time here. It looked closed but it was open. It's a little to dark inside for me but the food made up for that My food was delish. Catfish was fried just right, crispy but not hard, now them Brussels sprouts was hitting like 100/100, the chicken n fries I took home for my son and he loved it. My drink was just how I like it. The waitress name started with an R she was cool. Great vibes go visit be patient I saw youth working

Very solid soul food restaurant! The wait was short, and all the staff were very kind and helpful. The ambiance had a comfortable family restaurant feel. I'm not from the area, but I'd definitely comeback if I'm in town. We got wings, greens, ox tail, Mac, cat fish, yams, red beans and rice, corn bread, and fried zucchini. Everything was tasty. My favorites were the yams and catfish!

Yummy, yummy in my tummy! I ordered Ox Tails with cabbage and collard greens through Uber Eats (great service; quick prep and delivery) and it arrived hot, fresh, and delicious. The ox tails were tender and flavored well and were served on a bed of rice and gravy which was also seasoned well. I mixed the cabbage and greens together which made the greens yummier due to the seasoning used for the cabbage. There was a promotion which allowed me to also receive free Kool-Aid and it was exactly how I grew up drinking it, shweet! I'll definitely order from here again when traveling in the Oakland area!!!

Absolutely delicious! This is where my cousin wanted to go for his graduation dinner and it didn't disappoint! We had to wait 45 minutes before we could be seated, but as soon as we were, we were immediately greeted by our fabulous waitress. The place was dim but as the night went on, they raised the curtains which did allow more light in. It was definitely busy and full of people, but it wasn't overly loud. The oxtail and grits were delectable. My Grandmother ordered the fried fish with cabbage, yams and cornbread and she stated that she loved it. The mango lemonade was pretty good but my cousin's came out very sweet so the flavors between the 2 lemonade we ordered was not consistent.

BAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYBBBEEE THIS FOOD WAS SO MF GOOD!!!!! Made fresh to order so there was a wait but it was SO WORTH IT!!! Food came out hot and seasoned, everything was sooooo delicious!! Our server Brooke was super sweet as well as the owner! Definitely will be back 10/10 experience!

I'll start by saying I did NOT dislike my experience here. The service was good and the food was cool. The only reason I'm rating it a 3 is because the food is not worth what you pay for it. For 6 party wings, 2 sides, and a piece of cornbread it cost me $40. There are up charges for so many things. For example, of the 6 wings I got 3 of them were BBQ Hennessy wings and that cost me an additional $3. In all fairness it may have been explicit on the menu but I missed it and felt the pricing was unreasonable. The highlight was the mimosa tower. That was absolutely worth it!

The food was so tasty. Perfectly seasoned, whomever is cooking, thank you! I can't wait to bring my husband here. Highlights were their greens & fried zucchini for me! Not everyone can make perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned greens. Theirs were fantastic! Fried zucchini, also not over cooked, perfectly seasoned & their light batter stayed on the zucchini. Also, not most can get those veggies cooked to perfection. We had a couple hiccups. Totally forgiving for me, but worth mentioning. We order appetizers, hesitated ordering lunch, because we wanted apps first. On the third ask from waitress, we explained but ordered lunch & then she brought us our lunch. No apps. Ok. We asked to skip them. Nope, they came half way thru. Oxtail was delicious, perfectly cooked & seasoned. They were not served hot. Temperature was kinda warm. Then when paying tab; our waitress, the restaurant nor the bartender had cash/change. My friend & I had cash. Asked us to pay cc. Things to note: Discount on bill if you pay cash. They do not split checks/bills. Their address is 1825-3 & on the corner of San Pablo & 18th. No hard alcohol. Beer, wine & wine cocktails available. My friend had a wine lemon drop. She said it was good. The restaurant is well decorated, clean & has an all around pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just dont trip on order of food arriving nor the little things. Their food is delicious! Servers are friendly & I appreciated their service.

I learned of Y's Choice because I was staying overnight at a local hotel and saw an editorial in a magazine at the hotel about the owner and the restaurant. I went for Sunday brunch and sat at the bar. Bella the bartender was very welcoming and made a great mimosa (guava flavored). The chicken and waffles were delicious. The chicken was not overly fried with the middle being tender but not burnt! The waffles were fluffy! Honestly it's been a while since I had chicken and waffles and these were amazing. I'll be back because I want to try the other options in the menu. There wasn't a dj while I was there but the music playing throughout brunch was also appealing.

Parking is a bit difficult but we managed to find street parking a block away. Wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of seating inside. You order first and you find a table to sit, and they bring out the food to you. Self serve water is available. The food came out pretty quick! Thoughts: - Lobster roll (classic) was delicious! Generous amount of lobster. Would definitely get this again. Chips weren't too great though. - Fried shrimp basket was nice. Shrimp was crispy and tasty. Fries were also very crispy and flavorful. The sauces go well with the shrimp/fries. Coleslaw isn't the best though. - The crab nachos were surprisingly good. A nice cheese sauce combo with pico/avocado crema and a good amount of crab. - Garlic noodles were fine, nothing standout about them. - Mix and match basket with catfish, cod, and calamari (not pictured): Catfish was solid (would highly recommend, one of the favorites of the meal!), but would pass on the cod and calamari - a bit dry/fishy. Would recommend for a casual spot for seafood and a nice view!

Anyone remember the Jack London Village that they tore down to build this end of the development? Anyways - this is a fast casual type spot, where you order from the counter, place the little number sign on your table and wait for it to be delivered. The menu is your standard seafood joint by the water type, with all the usual suspects represented. Fried fish, shrimp, chowder, seafood pastas--if you've ever been to a seaside seafood joint, chances are good that the menu here is exactly like the one you remember seeing at the countless other places like this one. I noticed right off the bat that their pricing structure was on the high side - with a $17 burger and fries option, with the bulk of the fried seafood options in the $22-25 range. A cheaper choice might be the $16 fish tacos (two of them) but I kind of draw the line at paying $8 for a single taco. Our table ordered a few of the fried options plus a few soda beverages. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and I noticed that the silver metal trays that the food comes on is a bit on the small side, especially considering the prices for each dish. The fried shrimp dish was a big scoop of mega-salty french fries, and 3 average sized deep fried shrimp. Yes - 3 as in 1, 2, 3. That's what - $7+ a shrimp? The two fried fish platters weren't much better portion-wise. My deep fried cod consisted of three modest sized fish-fingers, and not the single luscious chunk of perfectly fried cod I had imagined in my head when ordering. They were fine - but very average and nothing that stood out as life-changing or something to write home about. As mentioned earlier, they must be employing the Little Rascals method where they over salt everything, in hopes that you'll order another beverage to wash down the copious mounts of sodium (I figure about 4+ days worth). The fried catfish platter that rounded out our order was more of the same - thin meager portions of fish on a large bed of mega-salted fries. Small plastic containers of generic pre-made tartar sauce and coleslaw can with each platter. The coleslaw was fine - just very forgettable and perhaps a tad on the flavorless/watery side. All said, was it okay? Yes. Was it anything outstanding that I'd crave and plan my return to have again? No. It is in line with touristy by-the-Sea seafood places that charge an extra couple of bucks because they're "on the water"? Pretty much. You're paying for the view and the 'scene' of sitting on the patio out front to people watch, and not for the food. I kind of hate these places and normally try my best to stay away from them, but every once in awhile, you gotta put on your tourist hat and join the mindless flock. A meager 2 stars outta 5 from me. Instead, I'd stroll around this area on a Sunday when they hold the farmer's market (again - is not what it used to be) and then drive through the tube to Alameda where great dining spots are numerous on Park Street. You can stop at Crab Cove and Crown Beach on the way, for more touristy sightseeing.

He found the ribs to be fall-off-the bone tender, with potatoes that were more whipped than mashed alongside a carrot puree. I, on the other hand, had the New York Steak and au gratin potatoes. Though I wanted to enjoy my entree, I found the New York Steak to be unfortunately chewy and with too much fat. The au gratin potatoes could have had more crispy layers but tasted mediocre. The atmosphere is cozy and casual and the service staff are really friendly. In terms of food, we started with a dozen oysters, the smoked trout dip, and the boquerones. The smoked trout dip was outstanding!!! Loved the flavor of it! The Boquerones was also delicious... the oysters were all fresh and can be ordered with horseradish and hot sauce (I think it was Crystal). For mains we ordered the steamed mussels and the grilled shrimp. The mussels were good, though on the smaller side, and the shrimp was delicious, buttery and garlicky. Great combo! To finish I had the Key Lime Pie which was done in a bowl. Great lime flavor and not overly sweet. Overall, a fantastic experience and we will definitely return!

We were not bothered on how much we spent but leaving hungry after spending over $600 made me think if we will return is why I am sharing this. The 2 front staff is fantastic and a solid 5 !!! Niff and Miss Lady made us feel really at home but they need more staff to help them especially on a busy night. Being understaffed they both held great and attentively smiled. Honestly the kitchen needs help to get orders out timely :).. This is a great spot to drink and socialize. But expect to spend a lot $$$ and less portions on the offerings. Yes we knew it will be an expensive experience bit did not expect tiny portions. Even the garlic bread at $10 gets you 2 small slices and just read on the other reviews to confirm my honest experience. I did not feel the need to post a lot of photos just posted and just the Captains Platter and our total itemized bill to validate what we consumed along with 2 bottles of wine for 4 adults.

I really like how they let you build your seafood experience exactly how you want it, from the type of seafood to the seasoning and spice level. The only thing was I think the spice level could've been kicked up a notch. Our table ordered a mix of oysters, garlic noodles, Cajun fries, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, which came with corn, potatoes, sausage and hard boiled egg! The seafood was fresh and the sauce coated everything nicely without being overwhelmingly salty, and the corn and potatoes soaked up all the seasoning. All for a very reasonable price if you get the combo, which comes in 3 different tiers! The oysters were a standout--fresh, briny & I loved all the different sauces like horse radish and cocktail on the side. I do wish the fries were a bit more crispy and could've gone heavier with the Cajun seasoning, but that's personal preference. The atmosphere is casual, lively, and perfect for big groups. If you're looking for a customizable seafood boil with fresh oysters, fun drinks, and plenty of options to build your ideal meal, Rockin Crawfish is definitely worth a visit

Based on that conversation, I expected fresh live crawfish, which was available Tuesday when I ordered from DoorDash the previous time. After I got home and opened my order this time. it was clear that the crawfish had been frozen. If the restaurant serves frozen crawfish, that's fine, but customers should be given accurate information when they ask directly about the product right? I feel misled because I relied on what I was told when making my purchase. Transparency is important, and I hope the restaurant does a better job communicating with customers about whether their crawfish are live or previously frozen. VERY DISHONEST BUSINESS SMH.

No one greeted us. Wasn't sure where to go. Went to the register. Waited a minute for someone to come out. Ordered the clam chowder, dozen oysters and fish & chips with a glass of mystery orange wine. Decided to sit outside in the back patio. Table was dirty from previous guest which usually doesn't bother me be ut little things started adding up. Service took a while. Oysters came out first. 20 min. They were fresh and delicious. Just enough to get the palette opened up. $46 though? Way overpriced but was willing to overlook since it is Mother's Day. Next up - clam chowder, 10 min after they took the tray for the oysters. Smallest bowl I ever saw. Flavor was good. Temperature was luke warm. Broth was thin. $10. Not worth it. Last was the fish and chips. 10 min after picking up the chowder bowl. Portion looked good enough to make up for the small clam chowder, except it was under seasoned. Fish texture was a bit dry too. Fries were meh. Between the overall vibe...the overpriced items...the time between dishes...and the lack of flavor, I will continue my search for an oyster spot in this neighborhood.

Third time's the charm!…read more The first two times we tried to eat at Hog Island Oyster Co., we took one look at the line and walked away. This visit, we came determined to finally see what all the hype was about--and I'm so glad we did. The wait was about 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad for such a popular spot. The best part? Once we were seated, service was incredibly efficient. Our food arrived quickly, giving us more time to savor every bite. The oysters were as fresh as they come--briny, sweet, and tasting like they had just come out of the bay. We ordered all three grilled oyster varieties, and each one was outstanding. The toppings added layers of flavor without masking what makes a great oyster so special: its delicate natural sweetness. It's a balance that's surprisingly hard to get right, and Hog Island nailed it. Then came the clam chowder. Wow. Velvety, rich, and loaded with tender clams, it had deep, comforting flavor without feeling overly heavy or salty. Easily one of the best clam chowders I've ever had. Now I completely understand why people are willing to wait in line. Some places are all hype--this isn't one of them. Hog Island absolutely lives up to its reputation, and we'll happily be back!

Sirene absolutely knocked it out of the park…read more We started with their seafood tower (or Captain's Platter--I can't remember the exact name), and it was the highlight of the meal. The presentation alone turns heads, but the quality backs it up. Sitting proudly at the very top of the tower were two sea urchins filled with uni. Not just a token garnish--they were generously loaded and set the tone for everything that followed. The jumbo prawns were incredibly sweet and juicy. We had three different kinds of oysters, each with its own personality, ranging from bright and briny to rich and creamy. The scallops were excellent, and the ceviche was fresh and flavorful. After the tower we shared a Margherita pizza, which was very good, followed by the fried chicken. The batter was crisp while the meat stayed juicy and moist inside. It's not often you find fried chicken that nails both texture and tenderness so well. The seafood tower wasn't just delicious--it was visually stunning. Honestly, if this exact platter were served at a restaurant in Palo Alto, I wouldn't blink at a $250 price tag. At Sirene, it was just $125, which felt like an incredible value for both the quality and quantity. I'm perfectly happy not paying Palo Alto rents if this is what Oakland delivers. And don't let stereotypical perceptions of Oakland keep you away. Grand Lake is one of the city's most charming neighborhoods, with beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, and a vibrant local dining scene. Sirene is absolutely worth the trip.
