Tried calling right when they opened, but no one picked up. My friend and I ended up driving there and ordered for take out. The staff person gave us a pleasant welcome, let us know the special, and took our order. The quoted wait time was 10-15 minutes. The shop has some chairs outside for waiting, but my friend and I decided to walk around to pass the time. We ended up walking for about 15 minutes and had to wait a few extra minutes. This southern soul food spot on a corner of International Boulevard is hot, new, and definitely worth trying. If the exterior painting and design don't grab your attention, just wait until you get inside. With all of the tables away due to shelter in place, you have a better view of the walls (pictures attached) that show celebrities from Oakland. In addition to the cool vibe, the food was delicious and hit the spot. I had the chicken and shrimp combo, which is just enough for two people when you take into account the sides. Make sure to add their lemon and hot sauces to the chicken; it's basically a palette waiting for these sauces to bring it to life. I'm sure you'll find a combination that you enjoy. I recommend eating it fresh, because some of the sides (like the fries) can get a bit cold if you don't eat them right away. Im all about supporting local businesses in my city so it was plus that it was in Oakland and Black owned so I was like hell yeah let's go.. My experience started off great as when I got my food one of the workers blessed me with their Kool Aid free of charge. So that was a win in my book and good service. No ranch or sauce needed. I gave the chicken a 4 out of 5. The fried shrimp was ok not the best but definitely not the worst. Nice size shrimps seasoned okay could of used a little more love(more batter on the shrimp and little more seasoning in my opinon). I gave the shrimp a 3 out of 5. Next was the red beans and rice. This side I gave it a 2 out of 5 because the beans could of been a 3 if it had more seasoning it wasn't the business. The last side I tried was their Mac & cheese and in the words of my guy Daym Drop call it Whack N Cheese. Their mac and cheese needed all the love and attention. The dish didn't taste like nothing with no type of flavor which was sad. It wasn't good not after a few bites had to toss it.. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. First off, the guy who was sitting behind the counter is utterly useless. He didn't greet us at all when we walked in. Barely even looked at us. You're behind the hostess counter. Be fucking cordial. The server immediately asked us if we'd be eating there or to go. We informed her we'd be eating there and we took a seat. Our order consisted of a small fried chicken plate (I ordered the 2 piece leg and thigh) which come with a side (mac and cheese) and cornbread, a kid's chicken and waffle plate (1 piece of chicken and one waffle), a small shrimp rice, and a kool aid. A couple walked in after us and ordered the daily special (some sort of steak and rice dish with sides) and kool aid as well. Fast forward 10 minutes and no one has come to our table to let us know anything about our order or bring us our drink yet the table who showed up after us has not one but TWO cups of kool aid on the their table. Fast forward 10 more minutes and the other couple now has food while we are still waiting on our drink and for someone to say "hey y'all your food is coming". We're now 25 minutes in and the other couple has had one of their plates remade because it was wrong while we STILL have NOTHING TO FUCKING EAT OR DRINK. So we inform them that we'll be taking our food to go as we have other places to be and have been waiting 25 minutes. 10 more minutes go by and by now we are DONE. We get up to leave and the silent mime at the hostess stand says "y'all's food is ready right now" We get our food, (still no kool aid) and head outside to leave. My best friend checks the bag and lo and behold they've forgotten his shrimp rice. I take a look at my chicken plate and when I tell you they gave me the two smallest pieces of chicken I've ever seen in my life. They looked like they had came off of a Cornish hen. I couldn't believe that I had waited 35 minutes and paid $10 for that. I could've butchered and fried a whole damn chicken with as long as it took for us get food. The server comes out to bring us the forgotten rice but by then I was completely over them and I kindly informed her that she could take it back inside along with the rest of the meal because we'd be getting a refund. No comprehensive review needed. The food is good and the wait is not too excessive. Overall it was a good place to eat at however I feel like I came on an off day. They didn't have a menu with prices available which made ordering complicated. After our orders were placed they made alterations to our orders without explaining what was happening (my po' boys weren't po' boys lol). They would not let me use my groupon for $40 because I only had a party of 2 (the groupon stated meal for four people but I didn't expect them to be strict about it). The groupon thing was not a big deal but it was just another inconvenience. Also parking is spotty in the area but we got lucky when we arrived.
