I love, love, love this restaurant, we've been coming here for years! A few years ago we moved to Palm Desert from the Bay Area so every time I come back to the Walnut Creek area, I always make sure I come to Angelines and have their gumbo, voodoo shrimp and the red pudding! The service here is always top-notch and the people that work here genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. I also love the fact that they have Crystal hot sauce, which is a must if you spend any time in New Orleans, iykyk! I am not new to Angeline's. This restaurant has been in business for YEARS & I am happy to see they are still booked and busy. I am happy to see the menu has never changed (if it ain't broke don't fix it). The customer service has and still is great. The ambiance is nice and clean while sprinkling as much Louisiana vibes as possible (mardi Gra mask, beads, music, etc). My go to is catfish and hush puppies I am not a spicy girl when it comes to my food so FYI the gumbo has a spicy kick to it. 3 bites and I had to stop eating it but sure it's flavorful The only items they still have that I do not like is the potato salad. I love this place!! They have the best fried chicken in the whole world and the mashed sweet potatoes are a revelation. Love their baked mac n'cheese as well and the beignets with rum caramel sauce are a mandatory experience. The first time was fantastic! I was impressed by flavor of each item. We started with the benigns with the butter spread which started the meal. For our second starter, the Brussels sprouts were flavored to the T!!!!!!! Hush puppy were cooked to perfection with a Crispy putter layer. Then the gumbo and poor boy fish sandwich. I've been here a couple of times now. The first time I had high expectations from having enjoyed great food while in Louisiana. Angeline's didn't quiet feel the same. It's definitely a great spot in the Bay when craving Louisiana food, but it still doesn't come close to the bold flavors I've had during my visit. First time trying New Orleans cuisine! My friend and I came at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. We ordered mac and cheese, fried chicken, gumbo, and brussels sprouts to share between the two of us. Mac and cheese was one of the best I've had. Also really enjoyed the sweet potato dip with the fried chicken. Gumbo was very flavorful. Brussels sprouts were so crispy and buttery. We were so full but still had room to try the beignets for dessert. They came out fresh and hot and topped with lots of powdered sugar. Service was amazing and loved the ambiance of the place. One of the better Mac and cheese sides I've had. The cheese flavor is all there and isn't overpowering or under seasoned. Would get this again. Gumbo (5/5): Can't go wrong with gumbo. I prefer gumbo over jambalaya so this was a must try. With the hot sauce, not Tabasco, they provide just made it even better. Shrimp creole (5/5): The flavors for this one got me from the start. I could not stop eating this. And then if the tomato sauce was too acidic, the green beans were a good palette cleanser. Banana bread Pudding (4.5/5): if you like sticky toffee pudding, give this a try. The caramel sauce isn't too sweet but it pairs so well with the banana bread. I only took off half a star due to personal preference of not liking bananas in general. But my bf loved this and he loves bananas. Went to celebrate my bestie's birthday and while we forgot to reserve (since they are always full) so couldn't get the best seats, the vibe was so lovely and the server was really nice (and patient in recommending dishes). Buttermilk fried chicken was so tender, every single kind of gravy/sauce was so flavorful and paired well with the main dishes. We had early dinner reservations for 8 people on a Saturday after our Berkeley Rep. theater. We were informed when we checked-in that we only had 2 hours to eat as another reservation party was to take over our table. At least they warned us. To start we shared 2 orders of Hush Puppies and 2 House Salads. Most of our party each ordered their own entree except 3 people ordered family style to share. Came here on a Saturday cause I've been craving southern food since my trip to New Orleans back in January. We ordered the shrimp and grits, fried catfish plate and beignets. Everything was delicious and reminded me of all the delicious food I had in New Orleans. Shrimp and grits were so good, loved the sauce that came on top. The catfish was good and also came with hush puppies and potato salad that were also great. Beignets were good, a bit breadier consistency than other beignets which are lighter and fluffier but also really good, just a different texture. Best southern food in my life. My aunt and I came here on a whim to get some food because we drove 2 hours from home for a dr's visit, they were nearby and looked the best, so we ordered from here. So much southern food disappointed me but angelines finally filled that hole in my stomach for the intense craving for good soul food. Their jambalaya is killer. Super heavy but its everything that ticks the boxes. I feel catfish was a tiny bit underwhelming but the sauce saved it. My only issue was I wasn't able to finish all the hushpuppies they gave us, and thats a good problem lol. They also had a half open kitchen so you could see what everyone was doing. The dining room was a lil dark and cozy, I like dark dining rooms to be honest so it was the icing on the cake for me. The hush puppies have a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior perfect for loading up with butter. The catfish wasn't overly breaded, simply coated in a light cornmeal crust. These people are negligent in the kitchen and uncaring to customers. I had a $180 DoorDash order 3/8 and almost died! It was my birthday dinner with friends at home . No one ordered seafood or fish because I am allergic. While I was eating the red beans and rice I pulled up a huge shrimp! It's been awhile since we've been to Angeline's. We moved out of the area and since we are surrounded by great restaurants, we rarely made the 45 minute drive out to Berkeley. However a local restaurant made some hush puppies and we thought, these are good, but we remember the hush puppies Angeline's made and what a treat it was to go there! Also we wanted to treat our friend for her birthday to New Orleans cuisine. Both people I went with ordered the Jambalaya, one was the Wild Rice Jambalaya (vegan) and the other was the traditional Jambalaya with roasted chicken, tasso ham, & andouille sausage. What they noticed was with each bite of the rice, the heat slowly built up, however it was not so hot, but enough so you noticed it. Both individuals liked the flavor and would order it again. I ordered the Angeline's Creole Style BBQ Shrimp and Rice plate. It was delicious with the 6 medium size shrimp seasoned just right with a Worcestershire flavored sauce. The strong rich flavor of the sauce was a nice balance with the buttered steamed green beans. This dish was one of the few entrees on the menu that did not have heat. I loved the flavor of the Worcestershire sauce and would consider ordering it again even if there were other options of entrees with no heat. For dessert, we ordered Mon Cachon Pot de crema topped with Bourbon Vanilla whipped cream, Banana Foster Bread Pudding with rum caramel sauce and Beignets sprinkled with powdered sugar. . I was so ready to try this place with all the reviews I've been reading and because Da Boot to da bay food truck is no longer around. So we finally gave it a shot. The service was good and we were helped right away. The food came out quick which was cool. I wanted to try just about everything but held back. For starters we got the grilled boudin which was OK they were a little drier than I'm use to given they were grilled, the fried grits and crawfish étouffée was good but could've used more flavor. The baby back ribs entree was also good, the bbq sauce was tasty and made them "good" but they aren't like smoked ribs where they fall off the bone however, they were still somewhat tender. For the sides we tried the baked Mac n cheese, sweet mashed potatoes and potato salad. I'd say they were decent but the Mac n cheese was just ok for us. Lastly, for dessert, we tried the beignets.
