Voodoo chicken
Ry T.

3.5stars. We had good service from our wait staff, Grant. He was nice and checked in to make sure the food was ok. On this trip, we ordered the fried chicken again, nicely seasoned, not over cooked. It was served with sweet potato mash. I tried the voodoo shrimp for the first time. It was good but not my fav dish there. The sauce was more vinegar tasting and had 6 large prawns over rice with green beans. We ended getting the beignets again with whipped cream. Decadent and tasted way better than our last visit.

@thefoodhigh This is the bowl of gumbo. It's a good portion and hearty.

I've been here a couple of times now. The first time I had high expectations from having enjoyed great food while in Louisiana. Angeline's didn't quiet feel the same. It's definitely a great spot in the Bay when craving Louisiana food, but it still doesn't come close to the bold flavors I've had during my visit. Apart from that, they have very good service and ambiance is cozy as well. These are just my two cents so take it for what you will. Go check them and see what you think. "High on Food. The chicken was amazing! The breading was soooo light and crispy and the gravy was super tasty. If I lived in Berkeley, I would probably gain 10 pounds because I would make this a regular spot in my dinner rotation!

We've been here several times and this latest visit didn't disappoint. It was our first time during brunch hours and it was surprisingly not busy. The ambiance is always nice with the New Orleans decor and music playing. Services always friendly and our order came quickly. Everything was good (as usual) but our favorite was the Chicken and Beignets. Some of the best fried chicken ever (the batter is light/perfectly cooked) and the beignets are amazing. This is one of our must-visits every time we're in Berkeley, so we'll definitely be back.

First time trying New Orleans cuisine! My friend and I came at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. We ordered mac and cheese, fried chicken, gumbo, and brussels sprouts to share between the two of us. Mac and cheese was one of the best I've had. Also really enjoyed the sweet potato dip with the fried chicken. Gumbo was very flavorful. Brussels sprouts were so crispy and buttery. We were so full but still had room to try the beignets for dessert. They came out fresh and hot and topped with lots of powdered sugar. Service was amazing and loved the ambiance of the place. Very popular place but wasn't too crowded, perfect lighting, perfect music and conversation level. Overall had a great experience!

At Angelina's Louisiana Kitchen in downtown Berkeley, I finally found the most Chinese-stomach-friendly American dish -- the crawfish étouffée over rice. The crawfish was already peeled and served with a spicy, flavorful gravy over steamed rice, topped with green onions. So comforting and satisfying! Plus, it's an open kitchen which is always fun to watch while you wait for your food.

Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen in Berkeley offers an authentic taste of New Orleans with dishes like jambalaya, gumbo, and beignets. The vibrant atmosphere, complete with jazz music and Mardi Gras-inspired decor, enhances the dining experience. Friendly staff and generous portions make it a must-visit for those craving Southern comfort food.

We came for a late lunch/ early dinner date on a Sunday. I would have loved to get an appetizer but I knew my entree would fill me up. We were seated quick and our server was attentive to our needs with water refill and checking on the quality of the food. Mac and Cheese (5/5): Really good. One of the better Mac and cheese sides I've had. The cheese flavor is all there and isn't overpowering or under seasoned. Would get this again. Gumbo (5/5): Can't go wrong with gumbo. I prefer gumbo over jambalaya so this was a must try. With the hot sauce, not Tabasco, they provide just made it even better. Shrimp creole (5/5): The flavors for this one got me from the start. I could not stop eating this. And then if the tomato sauce was too acidic, the green beans were a good palette cleanser. Banana bread Pudding (4.5/5): if you like sticky toffee pudding, give this a try. The caramel sauce isn't too sweet but it pairs so well with the banana bread. I only took off half a star due to personal preference of not liking bananas in general. But my bf loved this and he loves bananas. I would love to come back and try more from their menu since everything we ordered was amazing.

Came here for my jobs Christmas dinner this year! We ordered a little of EVERYTHING and it was AMAZING Street parking; no charge after 6p! (Came on a Saturday at 5p, no tvs or full bar so no sports crowd or crazy noise level) I personally had catfish and potato salad, Mac n cheese, crawfish etouffe, baby back ribs, beignets and swamp water (lemonade and ice tea) for my drink Reservations were made in advance to accommodate the party of 8. We were sat once everyone arrived! Staff were extremely attentive and nobody sent anything back! Appetizers , main course, dessert (no complaints from anyone) Service great Food great

One of the best Southern food experience ever! Went to celebrate my bestie's birthday and while we forgot to reserve (since they are always full) so couldn't get the best seats, the vibe was so lovely and the server was really nice (and patient in recommending dishes). Buttermilk fried chicken was so tender, every single kind of gravy/sauce was so flavorful and paired well with the main dishes. Gumbo is the perfect definition of comfort but the banana pudding was an absolute star. We were so full but couldn't resist since the taste was just remarkably sweet yet balanced to end the night with. Will definitely come back for another special occasion!

Solid Louisiana comfort food with great service Tried Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen and was so happy to find a spot like this. We had the fried catfish and gumbo, and both really hit the spot--perfect if you love Louisiana food. The portion size was good, the food came out quick, and everyone was super nice. The inside is spacious with a classic Southern-style vibe, making it comfortable and inviting. A great place for Louisiana comfort food with friendly service. I'd definitely come back!

Wild Mushroom Jambalya

We had early dinner reservations for 8 people on a Saturday after our Berkeley Rep. theater. We were informed when we checked-in that we only had 2 hours to eat as another reservation party was to take over our table. At least they warned us. To start we shared 2 orders of Hush Puppies and 2 House Salads. Most of our party each ordered their own entree except 3 people ordered family style to share. Our orders were: Buttermilk Fried Chicken (3 orders) Voo Doo Shrimp Shrimp Creole Crawfish Etouffee Wild Mushroom Jambalya Every dish was excellent flavor. The service was also excellent and a nice atmosphere to the restaurant. Only reason for 4 star is I felt the green beans were over-cooked, limp, and soggy and a few of the dishes were served luke warm not piping hot.

Potato Salad - 2.5/5
Gabrielle T.

Wild Mushroom Jambalaya: 3/5 Red Beans & Rice: 4.5/5 Potato Salad: 3/5 House Salad: 3/5 "Hurricane" Drink: 3/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Service: 5/5 Experience: 3/5 I stopped by Angeline's to enjoy dinner with a friend recently. Neither of us had ever been to the restaurant, even though we'd both heard of it several times. Neither of us eat meat, so my friend settled on the house salad with the wild mushroom jambalaya, and I ordered potato salad, red beans and rice and the house salad. The potato salad was slightly different from what I'm used to experiencing flavor-wise, but still pretty good. My friend wasn't feeling the jambalaya as much as he could have, but it wasn't send-this-back-it's-repulsive status, either. All in all, Angeline's seems a little overhyped but not so underwhelming that I'd knock more stars down. We still had a nice evening, we just probably won't be back.

I hate leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately I have to be honest about my experience…read more I ordered the macaroni and cheese, short ribs, yams, and rice with gravy on Father's Day and spent about $57. Out of everything I ordered, only the fish trom the second plate was decent. The rice was extremely hard, as if it wasn't cooked properly. The gravy had an unpleasant taste and ended up being poured over everything, including the macaroni and cheese, which made it difficult to enjoy. The yams were cut into huge chunks with little care or presentation. The biggest disappointment was the short ribs. The meat quality was very poor, with an unpleasant taste and texture that made it nearly impossible to eat. I was genuinely shocked by how bad it was. For the amount of money I spent, I expected much better quality, preparation, and presentation. Nothing was separated properly, and the meal felt rushed and carelessly put together. I am very disappointed, especially since this was supposed to be a Father's Day meal. I wanted to support this business, but based on this experience, I cannot justify spending $57 for food of this quality. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so improvements can be made in the future

Whenever I'm in search of something good to eat in the Bay Area I always check TikTok first. My search directed me to Southside Station! It's a small quaint establishment with a very quiet vibe. When I entered, there was a table of three gentlemen sitting there enjoying their selections. I checked in with them and got suggestions on what I should order. They made a recommendation, but I chose something totally different. I ordered the wings and garlic noodles with a side of brussels sprouts. This place is known for their fried chicken because it's so extra crunchy. They definitely did deliver on the crunch and the flavor. The garlic noodles were very garlic, which is what I liked, and the brussels sprouts were sautéed in a honey glaze. I decided to enjoy my food inside the restaurant as opposed to sitting outside where they have two tables set up. The young lady that took my order was ever so sweet and kind. She was the only one I saw in the restaurant behind the counter, but there may have been others working further in the back. There was an error on my order and she was quick to correct the error with an apology and a smile. The portion size was decent. I ended up taking home leftovers.

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. The staff were welcoming and polite throughout the evening and suggested we wait at the bar. I ordered the Margaret cocktail, which came in a cute little mug. It was refreshing, well-balanced, and easy to drink. My only wish was that there had been a bit more of it--the mug was on the smaller side and filled with quite a bit of ice. To start, we ordered the chicken liver & waffle, which was rich, flavorful, and a great opening dish. My favorite of the night was the BBQ whole shrimp. You get four generously sized shrimp that were cooked perfectly, but it was the sauce that really stole the show. It was so good that I found myself dipping everything I could into it. For our main, we had the Jidori chicken, which arrived beautifully presented. Every slice of chicken was juicy and paired perfectly with the accompanying sauce. I also loved that the dish included 1 crispy fried chicken (less juicy but still tasty), giving you two different preparations in one entrée. The potato salad added a refreshing contrast that tied everything together nicely. Overall, despite the long wait after our reservation time, the food, cocktails, and warm hospitality made for a very enjoyable evening.
