    Grilled Boudin

We've been here several times and this latest visit didn't disappoint. It was our first time during brunch hours and it was surprisingly not busy. The ambiance is always nice with the New Orleans decor and music playing. Services always friendly and our order came quickly. Everything was good (as usual) but our favorite was the Chicken and Beignets. Some of the best fried chicken ever (the batter is light/perfectly cooked) and the beignets are amazing. This is one of our must-visits every time we're in Berkeley, so we'll definitely be back.

First time trying New Orleans cuisine! My friend and I came at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. We ordered mac and cheese, fried chicken, gumbo, and brussels sprouts to share between the two of us. Mac and cheese was one of the best I've had. Also really enjoyed the sweet potato dip with the fried chicken. Gumbo was very flavorful. Brussels sprouts were so crispy and buttery. We were so full but still had room to try the beignets for dessert. They came out fresh and hot and topped with lots of powdered sugar. Service was amazing and loved the ambiance of the place. Very popular place but wasn't too crowded, perfect lighting, perfect music and conversation level. Overall had a great experience!

    Crawfish Etouffee

At Angelina's Louisiana Kitchen in downtown Berkeley, I finally found the most Chinese-stomach-friendly American dish -- the crawfish étouffée over rice. The crawfish was already peeled and served with a spicy, flavorful gravy over steamed rice, topped with green onions. So comforting and satisfying! Plus, it's an open kitchen which is always fun to watch while you wait for your food.

We came for a late lunch/ early dinner date on a Sunday. I would have loved to get an appetizer but I knew my entree would fill me up. We were seated quick and our server was attentive to our needs with water refill and checking on the quality of the food. Mac and Cheese (5/5): Really good. One of the better Mac and cheese sides I've had. The cheese flavor is all there and isn't overpowering or under seasoned. Would get this again. Gumbo (5/5): Can't go wrong with gumbo. I prefer gumbo over jambalaya so this was a must try. With the hot sauce, not Tabasco, they provide just made it even better. Shrimp creole (5/5): The flavors for this one got me from the start. I could not stop eating this. And then if the tomato sauce was too acidic, the green beans were a good palette cleanser. Banana bread Pudding (4.5/5): if you like sticky toffee pudding, give this a try. The caramel sauce isn't too sweet but it pairs so well with the banana bread. I only took off half a star due to personal preference of not liking bananas in general. But my bf loved this and he loves bananas. I would love to come back and try more from their menu since everything we ordered was amazing.

Came here for my jobs Christmas dinner this year! We ordered a little of EVERYTHING and it was AMAZING Street parking; no charge after 6p! (Came on a Saturday at 5p, no tvs or full bar so no sports crowd or crazy noise level) I personally had catfish and potato salad, Mac n cheese, crawfish etouffe, baby back ribs, beignets and swamp water (lemonade and ice tea) for my drink Reservations were made in advance to accommodate the party of 8. We were sat once everyone arrived! Staff were extremely attentive and nobody sent anything back! Appetizers , main course, dessert (no complaints from anyone) Service great Food great

I was so ready to try this place with all the reviews I've been reading and because Da Boot to da bay food truck is no longer around. So we finally gave it a shot. The service was good and we were helped right away. The food came out quick which was cool. I wanted to try just about everything but held back. For starters we got the grilled boudin which was OK they were a little drier than I'm use to given they were grilled, the fried grits and crawfish étouffée was good but could've used more flavor. The baby back ribs entree was also good, the bbq sauce was tasty and made them "good" but they aren't like smoked ribs where they fall off the bone however, they were still somewhat tender. For the sides we tried the baked Mac n cheese, sweet mashed potatoes and potato salad. I'd say they were decent but the Mac n cheese was just ok for us. Lastly, for dessert, we tried the beignets. Unfortunately they were not as good as I hoped they would be, I will say that I was slightly disappointed. But I would give them another shot and maybe just try something else.

    Wild Mushroom Jambalya

We had early dinner reservations for 8 people on a Saturday after our Berkeley Rep. theater. We were informed when we checked-in that we only had 2 hours to eat as another reservation party was to take over our table. At least they warned us. To start we shared 2 orders of Hush Puppies and 2 House Salads. Most of our party each ordered their own entree except 3 people ordered family style to share. Our orders were: Buttermilk Fried Chicken (3 orders) Voo Doo Shrimp Shrimp Creole Crawfish Etouffee Wild Mushroom Jambalya Every dish was excellent flavor. The service was also excellent and a nice atmosphere to the restaurant. Only reason for 4 star is I felt the green beans were over-cooked, limp, and soggy and a few of the dishes were served luke warm not piping hot.

    Potato Salad - 2.5/5
    Gabrielle T.

Wild Mushroom Jambalaya: 3/5 Red Beans & Rice: 4.5/5 Potato Salad: 3/5 House Salad: 3/5 "Hurricane" Drink: 3/5 Ambiance: 2/5 Service: 5/5 Experience: 3/5 I stopped by Angeline's to enjoy dinner with a friend recently. Neither of us had ever been to the restaurant, even though we'd both heard of it several times. Neither of us eat meat, so my friend settled on the house salad with the wild mushroom jambalaya, and I ordered potato salad, red beans and rice and the house salad. The potato salad was slightly different from what I'm used to experiencing flavor-wise, but still pretty good. My friend wasn't feeling the jambalaya as much as he could have, but it wasn't send-this-back-it's-repulsive status, either. All in all, Angeline's seems a little overhyped but not so underwhelming that I'd knock more stars down. We still had a nice evening, we just probably won't be back.

    Kings cake
    May Z.

I ordered a kings cake and to my surprise when I picked it up it was HUGE. One of the largest and most beautiful cakes I've ever gotten. It is so joyous, frosted lavishly, decorated to the nines, and deliciously flavored. The cake was only $33! I highly recommend! It has blueberries in it and it's sooo good. Fit for king!

Red beans and rice with unwanted SHRIMP!
    Trina P.

These people are negligent in the kitchen and uncaring to customers. I had a $180 DoorDash order 3/8 and almost died! It was my birthday dinner with friends at home . No one ordered seafood or fish because I am allergic. While I was eating the red beans and rice I pulled up a huge shrimp! I panicked and took meds immediately while my daughter called the restaurant to obtain more information. To keep it short... the manager asked if I accidentally ordered the Gumbo because they "look alike" LOL. I responded with "they do not"! On the receipt it clearly stated that I order red beans and rice. I asked for a full refund and was given a refund for the red beans and rice only! SAD...I was nauseous all night but no swelling. I will never eat here again and if you have allergies beware!

Shrimp & Grits, Beignets, Fried Catfish
    Kelly L.

Came here on a Saturday cause I've been craving southern food since my trip to New Orleans back in January. We ordered the shrimp and grits, fried catfish plate and beignets. Everything was delicious and reminded me of all the delicious food I had in New Orleans. Shrimp and grits were so good, loved the sauce that came on top. The catfish was good and also came with hush puppies and potato salad that were also great. Beignets were good, a bit breadier consistency than other beignets which are lighter and fluffier but also really good, just a different texture. Ambiance was nice, felt like you were at a restaurant in New Orleans. Staff were friendly. Can't wait to come back, there are so many dishes I'm excited to try.

    Inside
    Loredo L.

Wow I felt like I was transported to NOLA! This restaurant has been open since 2006 so it is appropriately aged inside with plenty of seating with lively New Orleans music playing. The server was friendly but had a flat personality. The food was beyond expectations. I really enjoyed my crawfish etouffee and the red beans as rice. I passed on the $4.99 sweet tea which I miss from when I lived in the South. My wife wasn't dazzled by her bbq shrimp and grits. My son liked his chicken po'boy. Definitely a welcome alternative from the ordinary.

    Beignets
    Nicole P.

Tried something new today at Angeline's and it was really good! I had the red beans and rice and the grilled boudin. Both were filling and flavorful. Callan was very helpful. Just when we thought we were full, he recommended the beignets and we obviously couldn't turn those down. Especially not with the whipped cream and caramel sauce! They were amazing as always! We arrived just before the dinner rush so it wasn't too busy and our food came out quickly. Another great visit!

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. Who would've thought you could have such a gourmet experience with good ol' soul food?! From the get go, everything was lovely. It's not easy to take little ones out for fine dining but we've got a great kid and the Burdell staff was amazing. I love the decor; it's like if you could make homey chic? We definitely had to get the chicken and waffles which was of course amazing and my kid devoured it. It wasn't your classic chicken and waffles but like crispy chicken skin bits (my kid's favorite) and I don't know what is in the waffles but they were divine. Not to mention the chicken liver mousse!! Heavenly. I'm allergic to peanuts so instead of the boiled peanuts (which my husband inhaled) I got something else and my apologies I cannot remember what it was but it was refreshing and crisp) Also the cornbread is to die for. I would eat it every day if I could. It went so well with the pork chop and I would come back just for the cornbread. Also know that the service fee or tip is included in your bill. I don't mind at all because I usually tip that amount at least when I go out anyway, but it should be known. Came here for dinner while on a work trip in the area and was able to get seated at the bar pretty much right away. I ordered the boiled peanuts to start which was soaking in peanut miso. I also ordered the Jadore chicken which comes partly fried and roasted and comes with deviled egg potato salad on the side. I love the boiled peanuts even though my fingers got a little messy lol. The chicken was good and so was the sides. I would love to come back and try more items on the menu, but like I mentioned before, this place isn't exactly cheap so I would probably make a nice night out of it. I came in on a weekday so there was pretty good amount of metered street parking in the area.

Of course me and the bestie had to grab brunch before we headed home. Was a bit thrown off when booking via OpenTable as it comes up as Haus of Chefs, but when I got the concept of hosting local chefs and rotating menus all was smooth. We got a few shareables and entrees and everything was so good. S/o to tik tok for putting us on to some amazing food. We ordered the boudin balls, crab stuffed shrimp, peach cobbler waffle, and catfish/ grits. For drinks, we had the brown sugar mint julep and madame butterfly. My fav items had to be the boudin balls, catfish / grits, and brown sugar mint julep. Presentation was so cute. Add a flower or herb to my drink or plate and I'm yours. Everything was so flavorful, paired nicely together , and wasn't too much. Portion sizes were on point and no need for condiments because sis seasoned the hell out that food! The ambiance is definitely brunch vibes. You can tell it's a local favorite as people were so chill about coming in and just enjoying their meal. Seating includes table and bar seating but no matter your area the service was on point almost little to no waiting and everything was freshly served ! Did I mention they had the jams in rotation. Again, who was on the aux because I need the playlist?! Prices for menu items were reasonable and worth it. I had a little moment when I realized the chef herself served us our plates and checked into see how everything was going. Like come on how cool was that! Overall, great experience and yes I'll be back for a dozen boudin balls. Big S/o to our servers/ bartenders Ashlee and Kia for the hospitality and customer service. Keep up the good work!
