We really love this restaurant. Located right in the heart of Solano Ave. Mr. C gave my husband and I excellent service and our food was excellent. I felt like I was with family having dinner. The huge serving of fried chicken was so crispy and delicious. We also ordered bar b que and a few sides. My experience was so exceptional that we decided to have our annual Christmas luncheon there today. The owner Elizabeth is so organized and professional. Amazing food and service, it's hard to get good fried catfish where I'm from, but it did not disappoint!

Super Amazing. Always wanted to eat here but never seem to get the timing right, a friend took him here for a Sunday brunch, and we ordered the two-way combos with ribs and links, potato salad, each of which come with a little piece of bread. Both the ribs and the links were outstanding, slow cooked, smoky, tender, crispy on the edges, and the sauce was excellent. We didn't eat inside though because they were catering for an event, and it was interesting to see a bunch of super well dressed people that looked like they were from down south or had down south roots enjoying some food. Staff was super nice, the lady that served us was a real sweetheart, and the overall experience was excellent. Highly recommended for the barbecue. The location of this restaurant is great. The owner is a nice man. His daughter working the front of the house is super kind. As far as the food, my family ordered the Western BBQ burgers, and I ordered the jambalaya. The burgers had an odd taste. My 14 year old had it said they smelled like goat food, like the pellets. Sure enough I tasted it and it did! We told them and they sent out chicken instead. The chicken came with potato salad. The chicken was ok. The potato salad was not the best. I tried the green and I don't know why it tasted like pickle juice. The jambalaya was watery. I was a part of a large party. The way they didn't really help sort the bill was very unprofessional. We had the pleasure of celebrating our grandmother's 99th birthday this past December at Lizzy's Cajun Café. I wanted it to be a wonderful experience, but unfortunately, it didn't fully meet my expectations. **Pros:** - The private event space was charming, cozy, and intimate--almost like hosting a party in your own home. We were allowed to decorate however we liked, which was a nice touch. - Curtis, the owner and father, was an absolute sweetheart. He was kind, accommodating, and even surprised us with complimentary appetizers like cheese sticks and taquitos while guests waited for their meals. His hospitality was greatly appreciated. **Cons:** We had prearranged a system where I collected guests' orders in advance, wrote them on cards with their names, and asked everyone to bring cash to pay for their meals. Given our group of nearly 40 people, I knew it could be complicated, but I was hopeful it would run smoothly. The night before, I discussed everything with Elizabeth (Lizzy), one of the owners. However, she initially suggested charging a flat $40 per person to cover tax and gratuity, which didn't make sense since some guests were ordering lower-cost items like burgers. This later became an issue. During the event, I was repeatedly pulled aside by either Lizzy or her sister Loren regarding complaints from my family, which were valid concerns. Some guests found their garlic noodles hard and cold, burgers were undercooked or had an odd taste, chicken lacked seasoning, and margaritas--priced at around $10--were noticeably weak. The bartender even had to come around and add more alcohol after the fact. At one point, they even ran out of French fries. While I understand that issues can arise, what disappointed me most was Lizzy's response. She seemed visibly irritated by the complaints, and it showed in her tone and facial expressions. While Loren was also frustrated at times, she remained professional and kind throughout. My husband and I enjoyed our catfish, but unfortunately, many guests were dissatisfied with their meals. Another issue was the way food was served. After collecting the name cards I had written, they assigned table numbers but didn't display them properly. Instead of placing the numbers on stands, the servers simply shouted them out when delivering food--making it feel more like a casual diner than a private event. A little planning, such as a seating map or table number stands, could have avoided this confusion. At the end of the night, my husband collected money from guests, ensuring tax and gratuity were covered, yet we still had a $130 discrepancy. Unable to understand why, we just paid it ourselves. We suspect we were charged for the appetizers Curtis had generously provided, as it seemed Lizzy was unhappy about him giving them to us. Throughout the process, communication between the owners was disorganized, and at times, it was unclear who was actually in charge. I always want to support small Black-owned businesses, which makes it especially difficult to write this review. However, they specifically asked for feedback and mentioned that they read all reviews. I sincerely hope this helps them improve their customer service for future events. read more

To be fair, I think Jamie W. and I probably need to go to Elizabeth Evans' restaurant in Albany to get the full dining experience this type of indulgent feast really deserves. Ordering it through a delivery app removed the culinary context of what we received. Because the restaurant sells full meals and not a la carte items in their menu, the choices were limited and kinda big which meant it felt pricey. The sides definitely reflected the Sunday picnic-style approach you would expect, but neither really blew us away. Like I said, it probably would've been a more satisfying meal if we were dressed in our Sunday best and getting the food straight from the kitchen instead of reading the latest delay message from GrubHub. Right in my own backyard. I can't believe I didn't know that this place ever existed. It's small on the inside and they do have a side door that they do take out orders had. But it is so small that it's so small that I almost missed it but the one thing that I did say was the word Cajun. I cannot miss eating Cajun food because it's part of my culture. This is where I met Linda, My server. Linda has a great personality and is a great person to have in the front to greet guests new and old. Normally when I see a sign that introduces introduces their cuisine style I'm a little hesitant as how authentic it will taste paste. When I put up the word Cajun all I could think of is it's probably Cajun-ish. I was wrong. They have captured the spirit and flavor of the South. They don't claim it they prove it. I ordered the ribs junior, And I must say if these were the junior ribs oh my gosh oh my gosh they were 4 ribs with or ridge with lots of meat on them. It was so hot outside I definitely had to have ice tea with this. As part of the lunch special the barbecue junior ribs come with potato salad. And the fried oak road was delicious. While I was waiting for my order I made sure to look over the menu to see what I was going to have the next time I came in. I finished it all off with their Flora's famous peach cobbler. I got all of this as take out but I waited inside for it because they were open. I was just in a hurry and couldn't wait to get home and heat it up and eat it up. I just happened to accidentally put a big slab ice cream on top of that hot peach cobbler which I might add the use pineapple for flavor and it is well what a beautiful marriage that was. I have to tell you that some of the best barbecue I've had in the East Bay so far and I've tried a few places.I'm excited to go back and see if there's jumbalaya or shrimp and grits or anything they have on the menu like the fried biographics are as good as everything else I had was. Crab cakes (3 perfect fluffy fried battered patties. Was a little disappointed because instead of tater salad they gave me more Mac salad- but it was great so I'm not mad at ya) Jambalaya with side of cabbage (jambalaya was spot on big hunks of chicken, andouille, plump shrimp.didn't add any salt or pepper to anything. The cabbage also had onion bell peppers and andouille... a meal in its own right. And the last side Cboys Mac n cheese ( I dug in and had to get the iPhone out to video that cheese tho!!!) Showed up ten minutes after ordering. It was ready! I wound up chatting quite a bit with Lizzie and her helper (sorry bro I forgot your name even tho you gave me a sprite and a bottled water for the first time visit) You see, they have brunch too and I saw shrimp n grits and the sound was audible of my eyes bugging out of my head. Very disappointed, the food tasted like it was bought from Safeway's crappy hot bar and portions were small for the price. The mac n cheese tasted so bad (like soap) that even my mac n cheese loving kids didn't want to eat it!! And you know kids don't lie! The green beans were literally just transferred from a can to a to-go container and we were charged $6 or 7 for that! The links were good but also tasted like they were store bought and just slobbered with BBQ sauce. One of the chicken pieces didn't taste very fresh, the rest were ok. Ribs were decent but nothing special. The only thing that I genuinely liked were the beans, the rest of the sides either tasted like soap, from a tub or can. BBQ sauce tasted ok, but nothing special. Also, the two-way order came with the smallest containers of sides (see pics) and one small piece of bread, which for the price seemed too little. The three way sides were better in size but still also got one small piece of low quality bagette. With the amount of restaurants in the Bay Area that serve high quality, fresh ingredients I don't think we'll ever order from Lizzy's again. read more

There is so much to love at Lizzy's Cajun Cafe! The food, the people there, the ambiance...it's just a wonderful place. I discovered this place because I drove there from Santa Rosa to see a Cajun band that was playing there, and was pleasantly surprised by the great food and staff. I've been there twice and it was worth the drive. The first time I went, I had the best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted and great fried okra. The second time, I had some really good, and unique, fried shrimp, and of course, lots of fried okra. My companion had crab cakes and couldn't stop raving about how good they were.The people make you feel very welcome and comfortable. I will definitely make the drive from Santa Rosa to Albany more often. It's so worth it! read more

Went to Lizzy's for the first time today. Met Curtis and he gave me a tour of the place. They have a restaurant and private dining room on the Solano Ave side and a take out on the Masonic side. They now also have a beer and wine license. One other thing, they treat you like family here. Besides brisket and ribs, one of my favorite BBQ foods is - Hot Links. It is tough to find good links anywhere nowadays and I have finally found some at Lizzy's. Good flavor and heat, light on the sauce please. Another gem I found was their Catfish. Excellent flavor!! Highly recommend these. This place does not specialize in the side dishes. Get what you get, but don't expect a lot here. Concentrate on the meat dishes and you will be happy! read more

Oh my goodness. Fantastic new BBQ spot just a short walk from my house!! Big, juicy, tender ribs with just the perfect amount of marbled fat. Spicy links had just enough spice to let you know it's there but not overpowering. Smoky, sweet, sauce that you'll be licking off your fingers after every bite. SO GOOD!! The barbecue dinner with salad is the hit I've been saying for years when are we going to start adding raw vegetables and fruit as part of our meal that's part of the reason so many of us have Diabetes high blood pressure obesity et cetera thank you so much for doing this we will continue to do patronize Your business. Came in when it was raining on a Sunday. Good thing I did! Host was really nice and super inviting. Ordered the Chicken basket, sweet tea, Mac and cheese! Came here and placed an order at 4:45pm and was told it will take 20 minutes. 20 minutes passed, and they were still working on my order. 30 minutes later still waiting. Finally ready after 50 minutes of waiting. Here's what I got: chicken-was tender and good ribs were super hard to chew and tasted two days old. Was very disappointed. Nice to have a Cajun inspired restaurant on Solano Ave. We went for lunch on a Friday. It's our second time eating there. Food is tasty. Prices are fair. The fried okra was very well prepared and legit. The rib junior portion was generous and while the meat was not the most tender, it was still savory and hit the spot. The potato salad was also solid, as well as my wife's bbq chicken. Curtis, the host, was by himself in the front of the restaurant and the cook seemed to be the only other staff. They are very hospitable and accommodating, but Lizzy's could use more wait staff and maybe an assistant chef. I noticed quite a few people were lined up for takeout.
