The food was so good. The service was quick and the staff is so nice. The food came out all at once and the mashed potatoes were so creamy. Their wings were really good and the gnocchi was interesting to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I came for lunch, it was not crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibes were really sweet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had a fireplace on the tv in the background to give it a homey vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Walnut Square is a cool little shopping and eating inlet in Berkeley's gourmet ghetto. At the west edge of the square you'll find Walnut Tavern. Dined here for brunch and enjoyed it quite a bit. They have a nice menu combination of breakfast and lunch items. I chose both! The steak sandwich and a waffle. I know, gluttony. The steak sando was on ciabatta bread and cooked perfectly. I asked for medium and that's how it came. Steak fries usually not my thing but these were crispy and seasoned enough. The waffle loses points because it was soft and had no crispness at all. And the syrup was the fake maple. They improve that and it's a winner. The last dish was the Mom's eggs Benedict which comes with ham. Hash browns were thin and crispy... perfect. And the atmosphere of this little tavern is great. Natural light. Woody. And a bar. Makes me want to come here to watch a Cal game. Service was a little spotty. Nice enough but kind of slow and didn't quite get my order right.

We found another new spot to go to and it was on NY eve. We made reservations just in case it was busy which is wasn't. We ordered a few drinks and appetizers right away. A few red wines which were really good, and a mixed vodka drink that was delicious as well. Our apps were fish tacos, and the momo platter. The fish was lightly coated and light, very good. The momo's were cooked perfect, great flavor in the beef and chicken, and the sauce was a good compliment. For our entrees we ordered the Steak, Shrimp Scampi, and the burger. The steak was a little over cooked, it should've been med rare, but it was almost well done. The scampi was really good, first time I've had a scampi with a red sauce. The pasta was good perfect, the sauce had so much flavor to it, and the shrimp was also cooked perfect. The burger was really good as well, perfect bread ration to meat, and it was cooked perfect. Also, the fries are good, cooked crispy like I liked. We didn't order any dessert because we we're too full. :). [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of seating inside, due to the rain, we didn't see the upstairs patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was really good, kudos to the staff. I would've given a 5 star but the steak was over cooked. I'll be back again.

Came here for drinks and dinner with a friend after my haircut next door. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice upstairs outdoor patio and cozy indoor areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed the sun setting and fresh air with our food and drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a chicken club sandwich with fries and she had chicken fettuccine. We also had the spicy margarita and Malibu mule. Drinks were really yummy and food hit the spot. Service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our evening. Would be fun to come back!

"Walnut Tavern" seems like a perfectly fitting name for the overall ambiance. The lighting, windows and wood details create an upscale, cozy feeling. The menu has good variety. Our party of 6 ordered warm olives and calamari to share. The olives were the stand-out and amazing (I almost got a serving order). The two salads were good, and eaten as meals, the burgers were good and satisfying. They came with salad or fries. I would opt for the salad next time since the fries were the kind with a crumbly coating which I don't enjoy. The Root Vegetable blend with spicy tomato coulis was delicious. We were well taken care of by our servers who were attentive but also gave us space. I'd love to return

Momo platter was awesome. The Shrimp Gambas were so good. The service was friendly and the entrees came out fast. I had the half chicken and my companion had the strip steak. The gnocchi was perfection and the steak (cooked medium) and chicken (flavorful and succulent not overcooked at all) were both well executed and well seasoned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is definitely tavern style shabby chic, and it looks like it's a local gem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Has a well stocked bar, but I didn't order a drink this go-round. Now I have an excuse to return. Can't wait.

The patio was nice on a warm sunny day in May. The inside was charming too but we wanted sun. The service was slow enough that you could have a lengthy conversation. It might have just been that the patio is out of the way. As a result you had to catch people for service when you saw them there for others. For the price I would have expected the food to be better. It was not bad but did not have the presentation or unique flavor you might expect for the price. All in all it was an ok experience.

Great location and food. We just discovered this place and gave it a try. It's only been open for about six months. This place is nested in a small group of stores, businesses and cafes. There's rooftop seating which gives you a nice view of the Bay. Great place to hang on a beautiful afternoon or evening. After, you can do some shopping or stroll around the neighborhood. We ordered the ground short rib burger without the bun and the grilled chicken sandwich. Friendly staff and service. Like many places, we felt the prices were a bit high. We'll offset this next time by sharing plates.

Tried this new restaurant in Berkeley. It's located in a residential neighborhood. The ambiance is nice with a bar in the front. Service is attentive. Shared two apps and one entree. The rack of lamb is tender and delish although a bit small. Had to send the pork belly back which was not good. Pleasantly surprised by the feta & sriracha flat bread. Very tasty. Overall, it's a decent restaurant. Not amazing but pretty decent.

Amazing restaurant in North Berkeley that is easy to find, plenty of on street parking and offers a tremendous value in food and drinks. Had dinner last night on the rooftop terrace, which was perfect given the warm temperatures. We started with cocktails and the calamari appetizer. The calamari was perfectly fried, crispy outside while moist and tender inside. For entrees we had the rack of lamb, Mac n cheese, short rib and club sandwiches. Salads were ok, not great. All very good. The cocktails were all tasty and generous pours. The wine list is small but also perfect for the entrees served. recommend the French red wine blend. Service was also on point , attentive but not over bearing. Look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu items.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. Wood Tavern met the criteria for a relatively nice American restaurant in North Oakland. We visited for lunch and wanted to make this special for our mom, so we were perhaps a bit overdressed in business casual, but this is Oakland after all. On an ordinary Thursday, there were multiple groups waiting outside for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM. That in itself should tell you how popular this place is. My wife and I dined at sister restaurant Southie next door a few years ago and really enjoyed it (I also rated it five stars on Yelp), so I was confident Wood Tavern would not disappoint. I initially booked our reservation using OpenTable to link it to my account and get 100 points. Since the max party size for Wood Tavern on OpenTable is four, I had to call to get it changed to eight. Due to the large party size, the restaurant also required me to give them my credit card info and be subject to a $25 per person no-show fee. Upon arrival, our tables were ready for us in the back corner near the open kitchen. The restaurant is true to its name with a shared bar and dining room space that evoke the feel of a wood tavern. Here's what we had: Wine of the Day * Rosé (100% Zweigelt), Stefan Pratsch, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2024 ($16) "N/A Libations" and other drinks * Cherry Bomb! non-alcoholic cocktail ($13) - Tilden Lacewing, Amarena cherry, lime, ginger beer, tall glass * Shirley Temple ($5) * Diet Coke ($5) * Iced Tea ($4) Soup & Salad * Red & Golden Beet Salad x2 ($16 each, one with fish added for $8) - frisee, castelfranco, pistachios, orange segments, Laura Chenel goat cheese, Cara Cara orange vinaigrette Sandwiches * The Hot Pastrami x2 ($25 each) - Emmentaler cheese, Dijon-horseradish dressing, La Farine baguette Old Reliables * Seafood Stew ($32) - rock cod, Manila clams, PEI mussels, calamari, butter beans, fennel, leeks, chili flakes, garlic toast * Pork Ragu Casarecce ($30) - Castelvetrano olives, Pecorino Romano, Grana Padano, chili flakes, parsley * Tavern Burger with French Fries on Acme Soft Bun with All the Fixins x3 ($25 each, two with cheddar added for $2 each) Everything was excellent. As for what to order, I recommend all of the dishes we got. It really just depends on what you like and/or what you're in the mood for. Everyone loved the food. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, the pastrami was one of the best I've had anywhere, my mom raved about the seafood stew, my brother-in-law gobbled up all of the casarecce, and the burger was outstanding. Service was polite and speedy. Our server Sophia C was awesome. We split one of the salads and the stew, so they came out plated and served in half portions which was nice of the kitchen staff to do.

I would had wished the bulgogi scramble didn't have as much red onion. I was surprised with the sweet potato tots option and that didn't disappoint. The spicy pork sandwich was elevated and balanced out with the kimchi slaw and cucumber combo. We finished with the Crunch French toast and it was perfection! Fluffy inside but a crunchy outside. Throughout the meal, he never checked on our table, even though we noticed him checking on the surrounding tables several times. At one point, the patio umbrella unexpectedly fell near our table. Instead of first asking if everyone was okay, his only response was, "Do you mind if I close the umbrella?" That was disappointing and made us feel overlooked. The only time his attitude became noticeably friendlier was when he brought the check. We happened to be the only Asian table that afternoon. Warm from the noodles but cold from the cheese--the shrimp was nicely cooked. For our entrée, we had a rib-eye. I don't eat steak, but for this occasion I did--it was good, but because I rarely eat beef, I couldn't compare it to other rib-eyes I'd had. The vegetables were good and quite fresh. I gave the ice cream to my family since I don't have dairy, but the fruit was great! Overall I enjoyed more dishes than others. The bread and drinks were also good. I'd be curious to come back for a different prix-fixe. Chez Panisse is a must visit once restaurant in my opinion--whether you're local to the area or live in the Bay Area. Alice Waters is famous and has won a multitude of awards for a reason. I'm happy to have finally dined here and celebrated my Mom's birthday. The restaurant is off Shattuck Ave. with street parking around.

I especially love that they don't use dairy or seed oils in their dressings. I often get all veggie bowls and they are super filling. Much of the menu is also Daniel Fast- friendly

Came here on the rec of a friend who told me she thought I'd like it. I will say, if you have somewhere to be *ORDER ONLINE*. I got there and was told to order from the self serve tablet (I could have done this on my phone ahead of time), but I put in my order and sat down to wait for it. At the 22 min mark, the two groups of two behind me got their food before I did, so I went up to the worker behind the bar and asked if my order was ready and I was told mine would be next. All in all- took 32 mins. So again, if you have somewhere to be- order ahead! Food was good. Could definitely tell it was made fresh to order - not only because it took some time but because my friend cauliflower came out PIPING hot. Lots of oil drippings, so if that isn't your thing, may not be for you, but I will say that it was my fav bite. This was a good restaurant- I would say 4 stars for the food alone. BUT if you're in a pinch, either order online or maybe save this spot for when you have more time. Also- I know that good quality food is pricey, this place is no exception. But you pay for what you get and the quality is better than that of fast food.
