This place stays busy! There are always people coming in and out, which is great to see. Props to them for building such a popular spot. The exterior and interior decor scream "HYPHY" and really represent the Bay Area culture. I honestly loved the vibe and appreciated the concept behind the restaurant. The milkshake was really good and ended up being my favorite thing we ordered. My biggest complaint was the ordering system. I wish there were descriptions of the menu items. I had to ask multiple people what came in the protein bowl, which was a little frustrating and could easily be fixed. As for the food, nothing really screamed "wow" to me. The burger was decent but not particularly memorable. The protein bowl was okay, but it was served in a paper bowl that started to disintegrate because of the sauce and wet lettuce, which wasn't the best experience. Hyphy Burger!!! From the smash burgers to the cleanliness to the professionalism of the staff. Hyphy Burger a 10/10. This might be the only fast food establishment with customer service better than CFA. I'm here a few times a day picking up DoorDash orders and even when it's hectic they keep things smoothly. Quick to give the doordash and UberEats drivers their orders, often offering water while we wait. I don't know if Byron is a manager but he should be. He's making sure customers and delivery drivers aren't waiting long, giving updates on orders even before we ask. He's quick to double check orders, making sure there's an extra patty or that it's cut in half when the receipt has those requests on it. He treats everyone with respect from the children to the elders. I've even heard him greeting customers by name, definitely impressed with his memory. The smash burgers go crazy, like I said I'm there at least twice a week eating. I like my burger cut in half with an extra patty. Something I'm trying to stay away from but can't resist are the stunna shakes. My go to is the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Gotta get it with extra whipped cream. (Sidenote, stop ordering these from DoorDash and UberEats. It's not the same as enjoying it there. By time we deliver your shakes the whip cream has melted and the shake isn't hitting the same.) Leo and Aleja some of the coldest with the shakes. (The coldest with the shakes I ain't seen in a minute, but they got other locations.) With the Cinnamon Toast Crunch stunna shake they crush the cereal til it's crumbs so the cinnamon flavor is all over the ice cream. You don't feel the cereal but you taste it and that takes the shake to a whole other level. (For the high schoolers, all I had was Denny's and Nation's, y'all got an option I didn't have after prom. Love that for y'all!) Also, this one of the most diverse parts of the Bay. Eat your food there and you'll see folks from all walks of life. Located in West Oakland is this little gem! My husband and I always pass by and finally stopped in. We just wanted to share a meal so we got the burnout meal and the digital check out had an option to cut the burger in half which made life easier! Was really excited to finally try Hyphy Burger as it's promos have been all over my social media over the past year and word of mouth seemed to validate it as being a legit competitor in the burger wars in the Bay Area. First things first: the vibe here is obviously the big draw, invoking such a strong sense of Oakland that is unmistakable, from the colorful building basically screaming for your attention as you drive by to the decked out school bus constantly driving around downtown blaring Bay Area hits. The interior, even during down hours is always bopping with an energy from staff that you don't often see which is infectious for anyone lucky enough to walk in. One downside was that they did take their sweet time despite only one other group was inside waiting for their food - something to think about if you were in a rush although it could have been just a one off considering we ordered burgers, fries, and mini donuts. We were so hungry that I didn't even get to take a photo of our food after we got home and basically devoured it all on the spot. The burger was solid - nicely charred with a pretty good sauce that paired well with the crispy fries. Would I say it is the top smash burger joint I've been to in the Bay? Probably not but one of the better ones for sure. Surprisingly the thing that stood out the most for me was the mini donettes that my partner picked out. I'm guessing this was what kept our order up a little longer than we hoped because they were hot as if straight from the fryer and dusted generously with the different toppings and glazes which you can choose an assortment of for your box. Stopped by Hyphy Burger for lunch. I was a little disappointed with the food. I had high expectations based on the social media videos I have seen. Burger came out and the bun was cold. A cold bun just makes the burger not feel fresh. The burger was also smaller than I expected. The fries were okay. It reminded me of in n out fries. Dipped with the sauce, it was really good. Once you run out of the sauce, it isn't as good. I didn't like that it was 50 cents for each topping too. I thought a burger included that but I guess not. It's $9 for just a cheese burger. $10 total with tomato and lettuce. Branding wise - I love it. Would be cool if they made merch and sold it at the store. Inside, the restaurant is loud with music. Keep hearing the hype from this place and finally got around to checking it out. Glad I did. Excellent smash patty burgers with the perfect amount of maillard. The buns hold up to the toppings. Maybe the only thing I would change is to have a dill pickle than a bread and butter pickle, but we are splitting hairs. The fries are seasoned with salt and pepper, which was a nice turn. The real question is what are you comparing this spot too? In-N-Out, McDonald's, BK? Then this place is definitely better. If you are comparing it to Lana's or Lovely's it's definitely a downgrade. Quick service. Ok smash burger. Solid fries. I will 100 percent be sticking with Lana's and Lovely's as my back up. But if you are in a hurry or want a lunch burger Hyphy Burger has got you. Stopped by Hyphy Burger in Oakland on a Sunday and had a great experience. We ordered a double cheeseburger and a jalapeño burger (both with fries) plus a Fruity Pebbles shake. The place itself is clean with a cool hyphy vibe, fun artwork, and lots of decor and stickers that give it a very Instagram/photo-friendly feel. There was a lot of people sitting around inside just hanging out, but it's was cool. I got the combo with cheese and headed back to work. The fries taste like they were cooked in chicken grease or some other fried item, but there was nothing else fried on the menu. The burger patty was super thin and maybe it was a smash burger (There was no smash burger on the menu and I've had smash burgers before). There was no real flavor and salt/pepper could have helped. The burger with buns was super thin and overall poorly made...add the fries and it was worse. I got sick the eve after eating this...I'm not saying it was from here, but it's all I ate that day before getting sick. I started with a basic hamburger, just two patties, onions, and signature sauce served on the side. The burger was smallish. It had good flavor, but I guess I'm not a fan of crispy edges, because it was too done for me. The onions were good, but they made it greasy. The signature sauce was ok. I was not impressed. It was fine, but nothing I would go out of my way for. The standout of my meal was the blueberry mint lemonade. It was delicious and went down fast. Loved their old school marketing, too. Ok, Hyphy Burger, I understand the hype. My wife and I finally had the chance to stop by Hyphy Burger after seeing it advertised all over social media non-stop for the past few months, and I can happily report that it did not disappoint. I got their Hyphy burger ($7.99) -- without cheese, and opted to add pastrami ($3.99), an option that was advertised as a new offering on their menu. It's not the cheapest burger, with mine coming in a little over $12 with the pastrami addition, but it's easily one of the best smash burgers that I've had anywhere in the Bay Area. All their burgers are doubles, but with how thin the patties are smashed, you're probably getting less than a 1/4 lb. of meat in each burger. The patties are legit paper thin and because of that, they are also wonderfully crispy. Hungry diners may even want to consider ordering a second burger. The burger patties are very generously salted and the addition of pastrami in mine brought the sodium to the next level. I would probably skip the pastrami next time to bring down the cost of my burger, and to enjoy a more balanced burger. You'll definitely want some water to wash down the burger. Fries - like the burger patties, continue the pattern of being very salty. I'm a salt field and love salt as much as the next person, but even I felt the need to call this out. The sauce they supply with their burgers is honestly pretty similar to the spread you can find at In-N-Out. Overall, I would definitely stop by again to satisfy my smash burger craving.
