    Horns BBQ in Oakland

My husband and I drive from Pittsburg here. They were out of brisket. The pulled pork sandwich was half fat half meat. The banana pudding no cookies in it,itwas like soup when my husband got to the car with our food. They gave him 5 ribs one hot link.He ordered a side of beans , greens and potato salad. This place was over priced. Were very disappointed. The chicken was sold out as well. Come to find out they already charged my husbands card then told him stuff was sold out.Im not sure why you'd charge before looking to see if you have any left to sell.

I stopped in because I was craving some brisket. I ended up ordering that and their cornbread to go. First off, very cool interior! I loved it. I also dug the various photos on the walls. Who doesn't like a Rick James hanging over the bar, ha, ha... My food was excellent. The brisket had a nice crust and was very moist. The cornbread was dangerously good. It was sitting in a honey sauce. If I wasn't watching my waistline I'd be heading there right now.

Horn BBQ quality is not what it used to be. I got here 30 minutes after opening and there were items not available already such as Potato Salad, Beef Ribs, and Cornbread, some staples of BBQ. There was 1 person bartending, serving, and taking payments, felt bad for 1 person to be doing everything in the front. I am giving a lower rating for the food on this updated review. Ordered the brisket, pork ribs, hot links, pulled pork, mac & cheese, pit beans, slaw, and texas bread. The brisket was so tough and dry, would not order the brisket here again since this happened twice in a row! Love my briskets, but not when it's so dry and definitely needed way more salt. Spare ribs were tasty and well seasoned, Horn bbq has great pork ribs! The hot links were flavorful and juicy, another favorite at horn bbq. The pulled pork was soft and tasty, but had so much fat this visit. The pit beans are great, I think they might be cooking it in their bbq sauce so it pairs well with the meat. The mac and cheese are pretty basic and standard.

Ribs, Links, Greens, mini corn bread, and slaw

Pictured: Ribs, links, greens & slaw. We came today (Oakland) (3/7/26) around 1 p.m. and were seated quickly, only to be told right away that they were out of mac and cheese and brisket. What you see in the picture is literally all they had left. For $61, we got dried-out ribs, dehydrated links, and two tiny corn muffins; add insult to injury the food was cold. The greens were the only thing worth eating. We boxed the food up and ended up throwing it away. Really disappointing overall. A wasted gift card and a wasted drive for dry

Sorry but the food was not good this go around .The Mac and Cheese had no flavor. The meat was dry and the beans were not cooked all away through. The collard greens were tasty though. The vanilla milkshake was just milk. No thickness. We did not finish it. The spot is very nice and stylish. Great look. Nice bar step up and great colors. Great mural. Service is ok. You have to pick up your own food. I would think for the amount you're paying someone would bring your food to you. But I guess I am just being too La La Land. Who knows. Sorry....

The restaurant has a nice bar well stalked. The bartender was very knowledgeable and provided the history of Oakland. The food was amazing and the decor is priceless. The restaurant pictures are dedicated to great artists and musicians. We ordered food and drinks. The food was well seasoned and delicious.

I've been wanting to try Horn BBQ for the longest time...FINALLY Ambiance: great music playing. Love the pic of the bull's head on the wall. Service: you order you food from the kiosk. Kitchen staff calls out your name when your order is ready Food: the hype is real. The brisket is very tender n moist. Great peppery bark. The cuts I received had a small sliver of fat...perfection! The sausage is a bit on the spicy side...if you don't care for spicy, choose another option...chicken, pulled pork or pork ribs If you're in the Old Oakland area....stop by and give them a try

Pretty aesthetic! There is bar seating and table seating for table seating, you order at the kiosk, choose a table, and then pick up your food when your name is called. The staff was available as needed though not anything outstanding, except a gentleman man in the kitchen was very welcoming and came and checked on how we liked the food later which I appreciated. Food was delicious! I particularly liked granny's potatoes. They are like mashed potatoes with pieces, well seasoned with cheese. The brisket was also very well done. The mac n cheese was good, but I prefer my mac n cheese baked a bit more. I knocked off a star because I tried to come here once before and google said they closed at 10pm, their voicemail said 9pm, but when I got there they closed at 8pm and I arrived at 8:15pm which was very frustrating. Also when I mentioned it to someone working there he wasn't at all apologetic. Looks like they have updated the times now. They also do happy hour! I'll likely be back.

Not sure if it's supposed to be Texas BBQ or something else. Tried to try everything unfortunately ran out of sausage/links. Chickens were salty. Brisket was too dry and burnt despite requested for juicy parts in order. Ribs were dry and cold. Banana pudding was too sweet and loose. Beef chili was too sweet. Service is very efficient with digital ordering with customer pickup. Least interaction with waiters. Yet food is expensive. It's a clean place though with flat wide entry for accessibility. Parking might be challenging in downtown Oakland with paid street parking a paid parking lot next to it. Not excited and sure if I go back.

1/2 lb Brisket, pulled pork, and coleslaw. Everything was delicious, surprisingly the pulled pork was my favorite!

***Probably not usual, but my food took 45 min to come out and I was the second person to order. I should've asked sooner about the food because apparently it was given away to an uber eats order. They made my plate after I checked in with them*** The establishment was clean and the restaurant had an easy to order tablet. There's only one tablet so that can cause a line to form. They have a full bar which is also nice. THE FOOD: everything was delicious!!! The brisket definitely lives up to the hype and surprisingly I found my self craving the pulled pork more because of the Smokey and crunchy burnt pieces of crust. I ended up adding the spicy BBQ sauce that's at each table because it was the perfect amount of sweetness and spice. Overall: Despite my food not coming out on time I would still highly recommend Horn BBQ because of their quality of food. However, you should know the food IS expensive.

** 3.5 - 4 stars ** First time visiting Horn Barbecue and sadly, missed the opportunity dining at their original location on Mandela Parkway in West Oakland. Now located in Old Oakland with a nice atmosphere, full bar and friendly gentleman working the bar, dropping off water and clearing our table. Place your order at the kiosk makes it simple: option of meats, amount, sides and drinks using your credit card. If paying cash, staff can take your order. MEATS :: 1/2lb BRISKET - thicker slice, juicy and tender. The bark was flavorful the first bite or 2 but was a bit salty and unevenly seasoned. The exterior was charred (not in a good way), dry and chewy like beef jerky. ** 3 - 3.5 star** :: 1/2 lb RIBS - 3-4 ribs from the shorter end. Tender, flavorful with a nice lacquer of sauce ** 4 stars ** SIDES: **4 stars ** :: CORNBREAD - delicious, sweet and savory incorporated with corn and drizzled with honey - I have to say one of the best I've had at any bbq place :: COLLARED GREENS - perfectly cooked and still retained its shape and not mushy. Flavorful :: MAC N CHEESE - shells with Velveeta cheese - ** 3 stars ** Overall, food was okay to good this first visit. Really enjoyed the side of pickled items Friends feedback: :: BEEF BRISKET SANDWICH - both enjoyed the first few bites but mentioned it was salty, overly sauced and too sweet. - 3.5 stars Pricing a little higher than like bbq spots and would return for the ribs, cornbread and collard greens and try other items. 2 meats with a side and cornbread will set you back $45 not Inc tip with leftovers for another meal.

Doing a drive by and ran in for some good BBQ before I dash onto the freeway. While waiting I'm sipping on a smooth glass of Cab. This time we ordered brisket, ribs, hot link, potato salad, coleslaw, mac n cheese, The ribs were super tender and so was the brisket. The link had a little kick to it and was really nicely prepared. All of the sides complemented the meats.

Are there any veggie mains? I'm going with family this weekend that are vegetarians and wondering if they should plan to eat separately.

There's two salads, pretzel sticks, brussel sprouts. But no veggie mains when I went. Fish sandwich if there's any pescatarians

Then, you gotta do everything yourself. Keeping in mind the pricing and you would at least think you wouldn't have to get your own water?? And God forbid you want a separate tab, becasue now your ordering for yourself through a qr code like its doordash, just to find out that the website doesn't work when trying to pay, then they have the audacity to ask for a tip on the website?? Who am I tipping if I did everything myself? Anyways, we ended up just ordering through the waiter. I know that the restaurant is like this rustic millennial burger spot where they do odd stuff but this really threw me off. On top of this, I came with an elderly and when she asked for a water the waiter pretty rudely told her that it was self serving. Maybe this is nitpicking, and maybe we just got a bad apple, but our waiter seemed very unprofessional and spoke to us like we bullied him in high school. Additionally, while ordering, damn near the whole menu was out of stock. You would think that the two dollar charge for every ingredient added on your pizza would pay for some pesto. The menu is already not that big and suddenly it was reduced to only a couple of items. I would maybe understand if we had come later, but it was 4pm. Now for the famous outdoor seating, if you REALLY want to go here, please just eat inside. Yes it was cute, but leaves and seeds were constantly falling into our hair, drinks, and food. Maybe it would've been nicer to have lids on your cups so you weren't literally drinking around Lord-knows-what in your cup. Hopefully the seeds from the trees have protein, because I know I ate some. Finally, about the actual food, I will say that it was pretty good, and it came quickly! However, a burger from in n out or a pizza from blaze pizza is around the same quality for a more reasonable price. As for the pizza, it was pretty good and able to be shared with 2-3 people. Just avoid the "spicy" fries because they are just regular fries drowing in paprika lol. Overall, there are so many other cute spots like this around so just go to one of those.

The food in this place was good but the service was so bad at some point I felt like it was a torture. The place was kind of empty not too many table were full but the waiter just would be gone for long and wouldn't come ask if we needed anything. The wait between meals like appetizer and main course was so long not because of kitchen but the server was just gone for long at a stretch. I had to ask him to come and same with after our meal was finished he never came to ask if we needed dessert, The waiter on other table saw us a few times and he finally came and gave us a menu. I really wanted to try a dessert but was scared this will again take us another hour to even get the server to come and get our order. On top of really slow service there was an older man who sat in the table next to us and kept talking to us looking at our food. He literally was asking me if you support trump do you like him. He kept telling us how he knew the owner and his wife and has come to this place for 100 times over years and everything is free for him here. This was all ok but I wasn't sure why he wasn't letting us eat our meal in peace. At some point he became a little racist as well, when we tried to take our food goto he told us i won't take this goto. I never take this goto. And then was like ohh you are from India and it felt so uncomfortable. He was like do you watch fox, I watch fox. Then was like I have cable, I don't try to save money. Do you have cable.. omg never ending interrogation and also kept looking at our food and table and what we were eating and kept commenting on that. I understand this restaurant might have some old and familiar guest or important people come to this place but they should understand other guest should still be able to enjoy there meal without being bothered by the people who are known. It was one of my worse restaurant experiences, the service and on top of this man who somehow is VIP guest at this place made it so hard for us to have our date night meal in peace. I literally tried to run away from this place. This was almost 2 hrs long ordeal. We came a little before 6 and left at 8 and I never eat for that long. I'll NEVER go to this place again even though I loved the food.

By the time we had actually received our food, almost an hour had passed. While we were waiting, a few other servers eventually joined, but service was still pretty bare for us and we never received refills on water or plates to eat off of when we received our food. I understand that staffing and a backup in the kitchen are out of the staff's control, but it would've definitely helped for us to know in advance how long to expect to wait to align our expectations and arrange our plans for the day. Would advise giving customers a quick heads up/warning because that on its own would've made a big difference. As for the actual food, we ordered the mac trio with elote mac, chicken pot pie mac, and kogi short rib mac (for an extra fee). The elote mac was the best and most flavorful, the short rib mac was okay but not amazing or worth the extra money, and the chicken pot pie mac was very bland/flavorless and didn't have much chicken in it. The food didn't feel like it warranted the wait time and because of that I would not return.

The waitress looked comfortable wearing her pajamas and the cook in his shorts and t-shirt.... Odd, but whatever. Some standard tables and chairs and a cooler in the dining area for drinks. Handy, I suppose. Or, maybe that was the only outlet available? Who knows? Added character! Haha I'll share some positive notes: The French fries were great! Perfectly crisp outside and tender in! We ordered the pulled pork fries as an appetizer. It was okay. The pork tasted a little off, but not quite sure why. My daughter's cheeseburger was fine. My friends sandwich, BLT was also fine. Things went south from here. My sandwich was the brisket and the waitress said it was her favorite. Well... everybody has different tastes I guess because I felt like it was gross. The meat tasted old and it was absolutely the messiest sandwich in the Kingdom of Messy Sandwiches. I'm OK, in general, with messy sandwiches, but in this case it was extreme. I needed a bib and wet wipes in abundance. It came with a salad, which would have been great, except they absolutely DROWNED it in an apple cider vinegar dressing. The thing is, the dressing had a wonderful flavor, and it would have been quite lovely had it not been so cloying and gooped on so massively. It was literally inedible. So after three bites of the sandwich and one bite of the salad, I decided to send it back. The whole plate was just nasty. And this is where my rating went from a 3 or 4 stars to a two. First the waitress was extremely confused. Okaaay.... So she went to talk to the cook who then came out to argue with me. I was trying hard not to be rude. I just wanted to let them know that I didn't want the sandwich and they needed to take it back. I told him that I didn't like it. He proceeds to tell me that it is everyone's favorite, their most popular sandwich. That all of their sandwiches are messy. ( The BLT and the hamburger were not. They were normal) so I tell them that despite other people liking it apparently I did not. I explained how there was too much salad dressing and that the meat tasted old to me. They acted like they had no idea what to do with this feedback. I said please just take this plate away from our table. I was not paying the bill so I do not know for sure if they charged for it or not. But yuck. Who argues with a customer? Especially when it's about taste and perceived quality, as we all have different taste buds that's why there's a menu of different options available at restaurants! I worked in restaurants for many years of my life. I hate sending things back and I don't do it unless it is really bad or really not what I ordered. It's very uncomfortable to be confrontational at all with anyone at any time, but the reality is when we are paying for something we want it to be good and if it is not good we need to be able to speak up about it and hold them accountable to an inferior quality product. They made that very difficult.

My only question is....WHY haven't I been here sooner?! I…read morewas craving pastrami, so I looked on yelp for pastrami in the area. My mom and I came in around 2pm on Monday (8/11). It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

WHEN: Thur @4pm I…read morewanted to come here at opening time for a few reasons: - PARKING: It's downtown so not sure how parking would be. But lucky for us, we found free parking just around the corner! When we left around 5pm, more opened up! I'm guessing it's because the auto repair shop was closing. - THE CROWD: This place is popular and there is usually a line. Though they have a great amount of seatings available (outdoors), but I prefer a space I don't feel like I have to menu ear so much around. - THE FISHWICH THAT SELLS OUT: I was told about this special fried fish sandwich that sells out. So in order to guarantee there will be one for me to order, gotta get there early! It's my first time, and here's what I had: THE FISHWICH - $14.50 Panko crusted rockfish, American cheese, Pickle, Shredded Cabbage, Tartar, Potato Bun. This is a limited supply item that is only available Wed-Sat until sellout. A friend shared it was amazing, but sadly I couldn't agree from one reason: This was bland. I love the softness of the potato bun, the crispy and hot pink-crusted textures, and the generous amount of tartar sauce. But I tasted nothing--just all sorts of texture. I owned up top it though and finished the entire thing. Was I satisfied? No, but my belly is full! THE DRIVE THRU - $10.50 American cheese, Schmalz onion, Pickle, Lettuce, tomato, Special Sauce, Sesame Bun. Overall decent burger, and I enjoyed it. Really can't say more without comparing it to SCOLARI'S but it's a solid burger. HAND CUT FRENCH FRIES - $5.35 Blanched and Fried chipperbec potatoes. I think I enjoyed these fries because they remind me of SCOLARI'S friends, heh. I was surprised I did not see o any of their merch for sale because I'm digging that carton character icon! The brewery it shared a space with has a decent amount of merch though!

After circling for parking 3+ times, I told the…read morefamily if we don't find a space this last drive by, we will go to a different place for dinner and a different brewery! Got lucky and parked two blocks away. Lovely's restaurant is also here on the Two Pitchers Brewing premises. See pictures and other 5 star Yelp review. The food was amazing! I was worried when I first saw what my daughter and wife ordered as that was not my wife's usual type of food.. Corn Fritters - My order. The oil they fried this in was dark; I was worried that the oil was old...? But it tasted fresh and good. I would get this again, but prefer a lighter oil next time please. The Chili Willie - My wife's order?!?! And this was good. The jalapenos gave it the perfect kick. I told my wife I am here for the beer, and as light eaters I just wanted to share something with them. Classic Fried Chicken Sandwich - No surprise my daughter's order. Well she wanted your sold out Fish & Chips (which is weird because I think she ate that last night also...?). This was also made-to-order fresh! The chicken had a good crisp until the last bite and was moist inside! Fried perfectly. She also ordered Chili Cheese Fries with that; I guess that is the theme today. Lastly, the soft serve looked so good but too bad it would clash with my beer drinking, lol. To compliment my dinner, or the other way around, lol. Two Pitchers Brewing: 10 of their beers are on tap and the rest are guests' taps. So of course, I had to try their $3 Signature Lager which was too light for me. You basically get what you pay for. Next... Pale Ale - $7, now that's more like it! No IPA today, so I had to settle. My daughter got the Yard Bird, Strawberry Lemonade Beer; it suited her. Ready for my 3rd beer, when my daughter said she wanted to go home and party some more?!?! So I abided. Ambiance - Cool space. Lots of semi private spaces that you can rent. See pictures or their website. Very kid and dog friendly! Unisex restrooms with outside sinks, thank you! NO parking! So bad on a Saturday evening, that we almost did not come. Open 6 days a week. See pictures or their website. Closed on Mondays. Service - Counters service. For both Lovely's and the bar. The outdoor bar is WAY faster service than the inside bar, just an FYI. Same team, but more organized. Price - $49 + generous tip. Including a 3% operations fee/credit card fee, see the small print on the very bottom of the menu. Expensive, even for the Bay Area. But that is the price for quality. 20% gratuity for orders over $250. Owner Comment - Congrats to the building since 1919. Congrats on your success since 2021. Glad we were able to visit. Are you the same owners as Two Pitchers Brewing?

Inside there's the actual bar area that's low lit and more intimate and a bigger seating area with huge TV screens. Cocktails were good. We went with the Spicy Lil Burro which was a spicy margarita with honey and lime. The Nikkei Margarita which was a tamarind margarita was also solid. Started with the Brussels Sprouts which had the perfect glaze and the almonds added an extra crunch to them. The Fish-N-Chips were fresh and perfectly battered. Fries golden crispy. The Yard Birds was the winner of the night. Succulent and juicy inside but crunchy on the outside. Great portion of chicken. The biscuit was fluffy and paired well with the hot honey and chicken. The Mac salad was okay. It had a little flavor out of the ordinary that didn't taste great. Service was good and attentive. Parking can be difficult and limited as they share a parking lot with a cannabis shop and the security is strict. There is some street parking around

The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.

I can't recommend if enough because the food was phenomenal! Our favorites were for sure the beef carpaccio, chicken wings and blackened catfish! Bone marrow was good just wasn't for me, garlic prawns were decent but wasn't too flavorful. I'd come back a thousand times for the blackened catfish and beef carpaccio. If you're going to get anything get those two! Service is shared and everyone helps each other which means you're never really waiting too long for anything. Cocktails came out quick and were great. I'd definitely be coming back!

Wow What an adventure! MUA has set the stage for all of the yummy food I expect to have in Oakland!…read moreSuch a great place as my first eatery as a new bay area resident. Arrived on time for my 8:00pm reservation and while people were definitely in ther having a good time, it was a quieter evening. Which was great since I really got to soak in the ambiance of this place. Incredible art lined the walls (very basquiat-esque), great chill music, tons of decor and huge giant mirrors in the back of the place to make it look much bigger. Low lights and calm energy also, definitely my favorite kind of restaurant vibes. To start off, i, of course had to grab a cocktail. I started off with the Crazy Pisco which was great! Super smooth, a little sour, and delicious. For food, we had such a great few dishes to share: Beef Carpaccio - This was so good! I'm a huge lover of any kind of carpaccio so this one hit all of the cylinders for me. Thinly sliced and yummy with an arugula salad to pair it with. Delicious! Mushroom Crostini - I am so happy I am a fully formed adult who got over her hatred of mushrooms because this was too good! What can I say...Yummy mushrooms, crispy bread, and a delicious sauce. I was a happy camper! This also had some arugula paired with it. Chicken Wings - These were the fan favorite of the bunch! Give me a chicken wing with some great sauce and im your forever. Yummy, sweet sticky sauce baked into some great chicken wings. We fought over a few pieces for sure. Bone Marrow - Simple, delicious, fatty, yummy. The bone marrow was totally great with some toasted bread. Super happy with this one. I've officially given up dessert for Port. So I had to finish the night off with one. Perfect ending to such a wonderful meal. Lovely time over at MUA! The vibes were immaculate, the service was wonderful, and the food was amazing. Super great intro to the food scene in Oakland!
