I nice looking, small eatery, where most customers seem to take their food-to-go, but despite that, there is decent dining area available at this location. The process is simple, order off of the menu above the register, pay, and wait for the food. I thought overall the ingredients were solid. Came here for a quick lunch. It's located right in the heart of Lake Merritt. The staff were very polite and helpful when I was placing my order. I ordered the mushroom Philly and it was delicious! Jamie W and I must have a particular mindset when considering a cheesesteak sandwich. I believe that mindset would likely be... "WHO GIVES A ****? STOP JUDGING ME." We kept passing by this busy spot on Lakeshore and had a weak moment when we decided to ignore our sags and convince ourselves we were twenty-somethings who could eat anything. I went to IB's recently to grab a bite before heading to the Grand Lake to catch a movie. I've been patronizing this chain since I was a kid and they never really have let me down. During this venture I decided to go with the bacon steak with chicken and sweet peppers. When selecting your sandwich you have a few meat options to pick from including beef, chicken, and lamb. Most of the meat options are also halal I believe. My sandwich was super flavorful as usual and loaded to the brim with toppings. Not pictured are the garlic waffle fries I ended up splitting with a friend which were also crispy and delicious. The vibe of IB's on Lakeshore is casual. There's artwork hung on the walls of their various sandwich selections. This is a good spot to drop by if you're in the area for shopping or a drink and want some comfort food to hold you over. IMO, an authentic Philly Cheesesteak can only be compared to where they are from, and that's Philadelphia. This fell well short, almost incomparable. There was plenty of meat, but it was on the dry side, and lacking the tenderness and flavor I am accoustomed to from the many shops hailing from and around Philadelphia. It's not much to look at aesthetically lol , but lord it's everything it's supposed to be . Sometimes depending on how long the delivery takes the breed might come back a tad soggy . But as you can tell by what I order I love a sloppy cheesesteak so that's bound to happen reguardless . Meat is always cooked well never chewy . They use nice big shrimp . I also love the loaded bear fries omg ! The cheese and onions are everything the onions are always cooked all the way through no raw chunks ever . One sandwich can be filling enough for self or you can share it if you get a side . There's a few more I want to try like the prince of Berkeley and the garlic steak add some shrimp but the surf and turf my way got me in a chokehold ! First time trying IB's. I ordered delivery and when it arrived, it was hot and looked great- exactly like the good photos. The popcorn chicken was crunchy (pulverized chicken rather than real chicken pieces so it wasn't juicy) , the bacon/cheese fries were dripping in toppings (eat them first before things get soggy), and the pepper cheesesteak was tasty! I think the steak pieces need be chopped smaller so when you're a bite, you don't have a big piece of steak dangling out of your mouth and every bite has a good mix of ingredients. The steak wasn't that tender, but chopping it up smaller would totally fix that. Everything ate a bit salty, but that's typical of fast food. I give it a solid 3.5 stars. read more

The food was hot and smelled delicious, it was filled with a good amount of beef & shrimp so I was excited to bite into it BUT the meat was all gristle! It was as if someone skinned a beef rib and chewed all the meat off and left the part with the fat & gristle then put it in the sandwich with the shrimp! I thought well maybe that one bite but the next two were the same, I pulled three large pieces out so that was basically all the meat. I have ordered delivery from IBs Lakeshore with special instructions 'yellow cheese light mayo light mustard'. They've gotten it wrong multiple times so my man figured light mayo and mustard is not mandatory and we don't mind a little more of either because we can scrape it off but to give white cheese no matter what we ask is not cool. Now he's tried to just simplify the order (no cheese, CHICKEN only) and instead they give us steak. This is ridiculous when they have a place to put special instructions for your order but they continue to not follow the instruction. It feels like it's on purpose honestly because the receipt says our exact order but our order from IBs Lakeshore is ALWAYS wrong. I don't order from there for myself because I don't believe in paying for them to continue to purposefully mess up my order but my man wants it and gives them the benefit of the doubt because he has been going there in person to order for years so he doesn't understand why they would continue to mess up his order without a good reason. I on the other hand refuse to order from here anymore because the messed up order has now escalated to just giving us whatever they want us to have and I'm not going for it. Ordered a mushroom cheese steak - grass fed beef - very flavorful. Grass fed beef. This is something that usually hyper aware people or maybe college educated people appreciate and value. Willingness to pay a little more because you understand life is more than just whats in your own wallet. The beef itself was in very small pieces and a little bit on the greasy side. More salty than I like but a very generous portion and tons of flavor. Cheese was there but not overpowering. I think this food is best for the drunk UC Berkeley crowds. Maybe its because its where I first noticed this brand - right beside Seniors and King Pin. Its not the most refined or delicate food but it gets the job done. I really don't think that lettuce fits well on this sandwich - because of the amount of super hot meat it just becomes almost cooked and wilted. The bun was tender - neither the meat nor the bread required much chewing at all. Just snarf it down. This particular store has different hours than the Berkeley store - not open as late from what I could tell. IB's Lakeshore in Oakland makes good cheese steak sandwiches, but they aren't perfect. I have tried their Original Cheese Steak and Mushroom Cheese Steak sandwiches. I ordered both with everything on them. Both sandwiches I would give them 4-stars. Heavy with meat fillings, not much lettuce & tomato. Also, not much peppers! I had to splash on my own hot sauce to spice it up. I don't know, maybe it's better to let the diner add his/her own heat. But I'd prefer to have some more peppers. Specialties: burgers, sandwiches (limited selections), cheesesteaks, fries, and wings and more. Price range from $3.00 for naked fries to $24.00 for a large surf & turf or a large bacon steak. Considering a combo of fries and beverage? Add $4.00 more to a burger, sandwich or cheesesteak. Cheesesteak includes choice of meat (beef, chicken, roast turkey, lamb), cheese, grilled onions, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes and not so hot sauce.
