I noticed an available table At the front, but it wasn't clean so I asked a gentleman behind the counter If he could clean it. he wiped it twice with a wet rag and left all types of food on it. Apparently the rag also had no soap or disinfectant on it either because and whatever rag he used had no disinfectant on it because when I went behind him with my Lysol wipes they had loads of dirt on them. Whether you believe in the pandemic or not, we can all agree that the spread of sickness is caused by lack of cleanliness! I could only eat a small portion of my meal because if you are so careless with cleaning tables, I can't imagine what your kitchen looks like. I will not return! read more

The island city of Alameda, California is filled with an abundance of coffee shops that serve a wide variety of pleasing coffee drinks, for Wescafe it's all about a coffee shop meets marketplace meets cafe/ greasy spoon vibe. Located on the city's westside on the bustling Webster Street, Wescafe has been located at this location between Haight and Santa Clara Avenues for a decade now, ever since they moved from their smaller location a block north, which has since been occupied by Signal Coffee Roasters. In my quest to visit every purveyor of coffee beans in the island city, I suggested to a friend that we head here for a brief stop after a lunch that we also enjoyed at a nearby restaurant on Webster Street. Parking around Wescafe can be a challenge especially along Webster Street as all of the parking meters do not park here/ tow away. We decided that since it technically was a holiday, and we were going to stay for a short while, while we sipped our coffee, we should take a chance and park across the street. Upon entry to this newer and updated location of Wescafe, one will instantly be surprised how large the interior is, with multiple glass cases of fresh pies, both sweet and savory, breakfast and lunch dishes, as well as giant cookies galore. It's strictly fast casual here at Wescafe where you order at the counter and they either give you a number for their staff to deliver your food to your table, or they simply call out your drink order when it is ready, which was our situation. I have to admit, I was not expecting the wide array of menu items that Wescafe serves up on a daily basis, as they sandwiches sold at an average price of $9.50, breakfast entrées all sold for 10 dollars or less, various large salads, and a Bar menu featuring traditional items such as bar bites and hamburgers. But since we already ate, we were steadfast in our decision to order coffees to enjoy in their cafe and there were an impressive 12 options of hot coffee drinks to choose from with three size options. My friend ordered a medium Cafe Latter and I opted for a medium Mexican Mocha, with our total bill being a bit under 8 dollars before tip, which was rather reasonable. As we waited for our drinks to be prepared we managed to find a table for two that was available, but we did have to bus and clean it ourselves as there were still previous cups from a former diner on it. Once our drinks were called out by their baristas one by one, my friend's latte had a delightful bear face impression made out in its top foam, and I received an extra dollop of whipped cream on the top of my Mexican Mocha. With subtle hints of cinnamon, I downed every sip of my coffee down to the last drop. We took in the atmosphere of Wescafe, as it was part sports bar with sports playing on one television behind the bar, bar cafe with people being served their lunch items by their hardworking staff. It was actually fun to take in the people watching as tables enjoyed brunch entrées, burgers, and sandwiches. And boy did they look good as they all seemed handcrafted and hearty and well with the 10 dollar price tag. I am so happy that Wescafe expanded their operations along Webster Street and is now even thriving in their expanded home. Where else can you get handcrafted smoothies and milkshakes along with a pint of beer and glass of wine? I can't wait to order all three the next time I visit. Not many in my estimation, and Wescafe is keeping it local and affordable despite all of the challenges thrown their way in this day and age. Wescafe should not only be patronized by locals and out-of-towners alike, but celebrated for thriving as long as they have! read more

It was raining when I left the nearby Alameda farmers market c. 11:30 AM, and it was cold. So, as I walked up Webster from Haight and came upon this warm & welcoming cafe, I couldn't resist. Years ago, I would duck in to buy a newspaper. However, that is no longer possible - everything is online. grrr My next thought was a hot, steaming cup of cocoa. yep The place was full but there were still available tables, seats at the counter. As soon as I stepped up to order - with no wait - my memories of how welcoming and cordial the staff is at Wescafe came back. I ordered, easily paid at their state of the art terminal and walked back to the counter area. There were several empty seats, so I used one to off load my tote & other bags full of f.m. purchases (the grapes are so good now in late Oct.). My cocoa arrived in a few minutes; it was just hot enough and very rich. yum There's a humungous TV screen on the back wall across from the counter but, thank goodness, they keep the volume very low. The noise volume of the other patrons was also surpisingly low. It was extremely cozy to sit and sip my hot drink. This business has kept all its best qualities over the years and is still very reasonable. read more

Despite the line that may seem long, there are plenty of places to sit, outside and inside of Wescafe! The service is quick and friendly with a variety of breakfast options as well as coffees and baked treats! My favorite is the classic breakfast with bacon, sourdough, and home fries! This breakfast is a great value for the quality of food that's served. There is only street parking available and note that Saturday's are more congested due to the farmer's market. This is a great place to walk to and there are always a variety of vendors. A great weekend stop! read more

I've lived in Alameda for 10 years, & always wanted to check out this place. My friend and I meet there. It took 30 mins. to receive my bagel (that was over toasted by the way.) It took an additional 15 minutes to get my smoothie. I felt mistreated. My friend and I both checked in at the counter to ask. We just got a response of "it's coming." I saw people being served that came in after me. I was very kind and patient. The guy bringing the food was nice. The issue is the men behind the counter. By the time my 1 bagel came, and drink, it was near closing. It's safe to say, I won't return here. The customer service is poor, and the food that I got wasn't worth the price of $12. read more

Food and drinks are hit or miss here. Today it was my Mediterranean salad. - No Dolmas, - They used large green olives with pits, - Cucumber was unpleasant and too bitter to eat. I was looking forward to dolmas and some kalamata olives (like the picture shows online). At least with kalamata olives the pits come out pretty easy. These green olives can't be eaten with a bite of salad. I threw out the cucumbers because the bitterness overwhelmed everything else. Not the end of the world, but it leaves me disappointed when my food and drinks aren't what I'm expecting :( read more

Best cafe on the west end-- outdoor is dog friendly, and the patio is a gem. The food is delicious-- leaning toward specialties in breakfast and brunch type food. Large coffee is really large, which is nice-- and it's always bustling and fun to come here. The farmers market is very close and they benefit with really fresh fruit and produce-- their smoothies are a speciality-- but so are the omelettes and huevos divorciados. Truly, Wescafe is a local institution. Wish they would stay open just a few hours later! The back patio is heavenly, with dogs and babies and locals gathering around the bubbling fountain, under the sun. They also have outdoor seating on Webster so you can watch the locals stroll by. Why; because their like family and that's how they make you feel each and every time. The food, drinks, service and and atmosphere is an experience all its own and take my word for it . This was a great stop after going to the Tuesday farmers market. It was a bit chilly out so we came for hot drinks and a chorizo breakfast burrito. It comes with tomato, cheese, beans and sour cream. We opted out of the beans and we asked for potato instead. We wanted to share it. They gladly said they would cut it. They made the hot drinks and gave them to us in glass mugs before we went to get seating. So nice. Con: For some reason it took over 15 minutes for it to come out. The two customers before us had take out coffee. So It was strange that it took so long for a single burrito assembly. A customer who came in 5 minutes after us got their plated meals immediately after ours so it leads me to believe they started all the meals at the same time or they put extra love into their cooking. Just a little too long for the wait when it wasn't busy in my opinion. Positive: Great meal. Filling burrito that was shared, so good quantity. The coffee was strong enough without asking for an extra shot. The hot chocolate was fine according to my wife. The ambiance was very nice and the seating in the back patio with soft instrumental music with water feature sounds made for a very relaxing time. I'd come back for sure. I love Wescafe! The employees are always so friendly and helpful. I love the choices of smoothies that they have. They are so delicious and immunity boosting. They also have great coffee with options for dairy or non-dairy creamer as well as different sweeteners like agave or regular sugar or honey. Their quiche is so tasty too and well as their breakfast burritos. Portion sizes are good for you the price. I go away feeling satisfied. They also do not discriminate giving accommodations to customers as needed. There's a beautiful garden in the back that is easy to access from the back gate or through the restaurant itself. Was craving a salad and sandwich yesterday so stopped in at Wescafe with a few coworkers. Metered street parking only which can be tricky during lunch time so plan accordingly. You order at the counter and are provided a number placard to take with you. Open seating. The back patio is spacious with shaded and uncovered areas. As a SoCal native, Lucky Boy breakfast burritos were a mainstay in my home town of Pasadena. Zip codes have changed but the yearning for some hometown comfort food never goes away (especially after a night of moderate drinking). My first effort to find a suitable substitute was a success. As a whole the ingredients were pretty standard with one expection. This breaksfast burrito had sour cream. I was pleasantly surprised that sour cream could add an additional flavor dimension to a breakfast burrito. In addition, I found the quality of the tortilla to exceed the high standards set by my beloved Lucky Boys. This was a quality breakfast burrito. I'll go back for more. Cons: Parking in that area of Alameda is less than ideal on Saturday mornings. And more pricey than I'm accustomed to. But Nor Cal will be priced by Nor Cal standards. read more

An update to 5 stars from a couple of years ago. This place has become one of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots over the years and we even have to drive to get there. Places closer to us just don't want to open early with prolly one exception. They have indoor dining, tables on the wide sidewalk that are actually protected from cars with concrete instead of these flimsy parklets situated in the middle of traffic. They also have a great patio or back. My partner was holding out on me about the patio for months when she finally said "Let's suit on the patio". I'm like what patio? Still a great selection of food, fresh juices made to order, beer, champs and wine. Oh, and coffee, lots of coffee drinks to start your day rolling after the previous night. This is a fairly good-sized cafe with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. I was in the mood for a light meal, so I ordered yogurt with granola. The service was astonishingly fast, and they brought my order to moe in about two minutes. It was quite a nice dish with lots of fruit on top of the granola. Just what I wanted! One of the servers was kind enough to explain the history of the trolley car along Lincoln Boulevard. That explains the train motif in several restaurants in this area. There are quite a few tables inside as well as more outside. It was pretty busy this Saturday morning, and parking can be really tough, especially when the farmers market is active. I had to drive around to find a spot. The meter was broken so I guess that means I get to park for free! Here's a special secret just for you Yelp people so don't tell anybody else: They have a secret garden in the back that seats about 30 more people. Remember, don't tell anybody about that! The morning I was here, the place was busy as a bee hive! It's obviously a very popular place with locals, as well as tourists looking for a bite. It turns out it's called Wescafe based on west side of town. There actually is no man called Wes. If there is one, he's hiding. It seems to me this restaurant is managed very well. A HIDDEN GEM Okay, I have to start off by saying: I never thought of Wescafe, when it came to hot delicious breakfast. I ALWAYS thought of "continental" style breakfast and brunch. Well let me say, they make a delicious hot breakfast. I especially love the "hash" breakfasts servings. Ask for the "menu" and see a huge selection of this style. I tried the "Gold Coast" and my wife had "Hipster Hash." So delicious!!! The Hashbrowns, the featured ingredient, are perfect. They are crisp and delicious, and fulfilling! They add special spice and ingredients, without being overbearing, or burning your mouth. The cooked beef of the burger patty, was delcious, not salty, and hot. I would not recommend coming here for the food, specifically the pastries. I bought a coffee cake and a brownie, both which were about 5 bucks and BOTH were stale and dry. It makes no sense to me at all why they would sell this crap to people. I took the brownie home to eat later but once I touched it I could tell that it was going to be dry and awful! It went right into the trash. I was really hungry and got the coffee cake on a plate to eat while I was there and it was dryyy. I only keep on eating it because I was soo hungry. It was a totally waste of $10. The only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is that I was trying to work at the time and my computer battery was low and I was able to sit at a table, charge my battery and work which was nice. read more

Hello. This meal was extremely disappointing. The pancakes and waffles were bland and we were given no butter. The eggs were unseasoned. We ordered a mocha and hot chocolate, both ended up being mostly hot milk. While I do appreciate one of the employees running out the door behind me to give me a part of my order they didn't put in the bag, the meal itself was so bland I almost wish he didn't bother. This place is amazing, they have everything you can imagine on the menu from homemade pies and cheesecake to delicious homemade quiches , then you have a variety of sandwiches breakfasts and drinks juices galore .... But not only are the options endless... the quality is divine. The tuna sandwich was probably the best I have ever had ... it wasn't soaked in Mayo it was just right balance of Mayo and mustard and while I am not a huge fan of mustard this sandwich was heavenly . Better than the tuna sandwiches I had in Maui. The staff Was so accommodating and friendly and in talking to them they let us know that one of the owners was actually in the back making all of these delicious creations...
