This place should be shut down. Food is overpriced and mediocre, the service sucks, and the kitchen staff don't wear masks. I met a friend for brunch today and we decided to get our order to go because this place was packed and there was an empty parklet down the street. We ordered an impossible hash, a Belgian waffle, and two iced lattes. My friend was very clear about the iced lattes, because she said pretty loudly to the young woman behind the counter "I usually like mine hot, but today I need an *iced* latte." The young woman asked my friend for her name and didn't give us a number, even though I could hear them calling out numbers as food was coming out. The lattes came out hot. When my friend told the guy that we ordered two *iced* lattes, he argued with her and said "well, she says you never said *iced*," referring to the young woman who took our order. My friend pushed back. He made them iced. Then we waited more than 45 minutes for the food, getting very cranky, watching the kitchen staff walking around the restaurant with their noses uncovered, or their masks down around their necks. I was about to just leave without my food, when my friend went up to the counter to ask about the order. The young woman who took our order asked my friend what our number was. My friend said "you didn't give me a number, you just asked for my name," and she told the young woman her name. The young woman responded, "Oh yeah... I remember that name..." and went looking for our order. She found the hash sitting under a heat lamp, but there was no waffle to be found anywhere. She said it would take five minutes. We waited ten. In the meantime, one of the kitchen staff who'd had his mask around his neck the whole time we were there delivered some food to a table of guests next to where I was standing. I said "you know it's illegal to be indoors without a mask on, right?" and he replied "oh it just fell down" and walked away without pulling his mask up. When my waffle came out, the cook who handed it to me had his nose exposed and I said "please pull your mask up over your nose" and he ignored me. Wow. I'll be making a phone call to the county on Monday morning. read more

This is a nice cafe with good lattes. I've tried their spanakopita a couple of times - the first time, I was starving and it tasted so good. Second time was so so. Maybe because the first time I had it right when they brought it out of the oven. It's a bit noisy to work or study because their blender is constantly going. I don't know how my husband studies. Wow! This place gets crowded on weekend mornings. I think all of Alameda stops in for their morning pastry. The first thing that caught my eye was the bacon quiche. Its topped with strips of bacon and has bacon throughout. If you have high blood pressure, I would not order the bacon quiche. However, everyone else must try it. PRO-TIP: Even though this is morning spot, they make a descent hamburger and fries. Be sure to ask for the fries crispy (even if you do ask, they often ignore your request which is frustrating). Its not obvious from the menu, so you have to ask for it. Its $9.95 without cheese. Finding a seat for a party of more than 4 can be difficult on the weekends because this place gets packed. Every other day of the week, its no problem. They have a nice patio out back and nice area on the sidewalk where you can sit and drink while people's dogs sniff your shoes. Its lovely. read more

I use to love Wescafe and up until today have never had any trouble with any of my orders. I have been coming here for years. Well, today my entire order was off. I ordered avocado to my sandwich ( didn't get my avocado), I ordered a mango smoothie ( it was completely liquid and taste like water), I ordered a Chi tea latte that only taste like milk, I ordered French fries ( that were warm and stale) My card was charged 29.40 when my total was 24.50 ( I hope that this is just a bank error or temporary hold). I went back for more Chi, fresh fries, and another smoothie still wasn't impressed. I am not sure what happened to Wescafe but it does sadden me because I absolutely loved this Cafe. read more

West Cafe is truly an Alameda staple coffee and eatery spot. The ambience is simple, spacious and very clean. There's even a backyard outside patio to enjoy some sun. A few tables in the front too just to give you even more choices of where to settle down and enjoy your food. I love Wescafe. Being going for years. I started with them when they were up the street in a smaller space. The welcome to me is like "Cheers". Which is what I love. The care and suggestions on what I should order was wonderful. I ended up with the english muffin breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. It was fresh and hot. They even went as far as to bring me a tall glass of water with lemon in it. The personal touch was amazing. I used to be a regular at wescafe but in recent months they have been giving me a medium coffee instead of a large and now this morning my husband brought me this coffee with half of the coffee gone. My husband questioned it at the cafe and they said it was correct. How is that a large coffee? You order at the door, given a number to bring to your table, be sure to sanitize your hands with that gallon sanitizer (non-scented and non-drying). So much to choose from, breakfast or lunch items? Omelets? Hamburger, sandwiches? Spinach spanakopita? Egg Florentine? Baked goods like croissants, etc. Whatever you order will be great. My peeps ordered the traditional breakfast with candanian ham, bacon, eggs, toast. That plate was eaten clean. My other peep had (phyllo baked spinach) spanakopita with salad. Mine was perfect thinly sliced roast beef with french roll with sun dried tomato and greens. Very juicy as how drippings onto the plate. I asked for grilled onions but i think they mistakenly heard sun dried tomato, but it was perfect. Best sandwich just because it was huge and filled with ingredients ($9.88). Service was wonderful. We bussed our table. Clean restrooms. On Saturday, there's a tiny farmer's market around the block. So eat and take a stroll in this nice webster street. GREYt environment for studying and friendly meetings. We sat in the outdoor patio while I enjoyed my coffee cake and bland iced coffee. I really like the staff at this restaurant. They are committed to customer satisfaction and the small amenities that make going out to eat fun. The outdoor patio is a hidden gem. I have had mixed results with the portion sizes here, although today the sandwiches were exceptional both in flavor and the amount of food. For drinks, I ordered an iced vanilla latte and my sister ordered the einstein juice. For food we got the eggs benny and a bagel with cream cheese. The food was pretty mediocre, simple, nothing too exciting. The bagel was any ordinary bagel (we got onion). As for the eggs benny, the eggs benedict itself was good, good sauce. It came with a side of potatoes which were really soft, but I do prefer more crunchy potatoes, so do with that information as you wish. As for the drinks, I didn't ask how my sister felt about her drink, but she did order an iced americano which was very acidic and almost hard to drink. The food in this location was awful...I took my father here for Father's Day and got my father a pancake Combo and my self chicken omelet. Well the pancakes that came out for my father were literally the size of children's breakfast dish...SMH Also the cheese they were supposed to put on my father's egg were tossed on and not even melted ,after I Inform them that they forgot the cheese. They were talking about a hotel that got shut down because someone dies in that hotel. But what is the most upsetting is that I am paying and expecting to get a half salad and half sandwich... take a look at the picture below. Visited Wescafe last weekend for a spur of the moment lunch with friends. We tried huevos rancheros which had very bland sauce and were disappointing, and also chicken sandwiches, which were pretty tasty with a generous amount of fillings. The ambience is tired but neighborly, it's an easy place to sit with a coffee but felt cluttered. Service was responsive and attentive as a plus. I can't say we'll be back - just 'ok'. read more

They will find your number and bring the food out. Breakfast was so so. Loved the baked potatoes. Coffee was very good, served in the big cup. However the cup was thick that coffee got cold very quickly because the heat got transferred to the cup. They should microwave the cup with coffee to keep coffee stay hot for longer.
