This place is really good the quality of lamb, chicken, the falafel, all the other ingredients that go into the wraps or bowls or salads is super high quality and loaded with yummy Middle Eastern flavor. And the Garlic Sauce is out of this world delicious! That sauce you want to put on everything! Now for my complaint. I ordered a lamb/beef shawarma wrap and added fries to it (because I was super hungry). I also order a falafel wrap with eggplant added. All to go. I paid a good about of money for these wraps and two drinks (total bill was just shy of $60), but really felt like I was cheated on my lamb/beef wrap! MY LAMB/BEEF SHAWARMA WRAP WAS REALLY SMALL. It didn't even feel like an appetizer! I WAS STILL SUPPER HUNGRY AFTER FINISHING IT! I seriously had to go get someone In & Out after! I mean like two double-doubles! For the amount of money spent on that wrap ($19), I really feel like I did not get anything near $19 in terms of portion. There are several shawarma wrap places all over the Bay Area (cafes, trucks, pop-ups) which I frequent, and in terms of portion (and quality) are all waaay better! It's really disappointing to me because as I mentioned the quality and the flavor of the food at Shawarmaji are all good. The picture on the menu is deceiving as what was served to me was far off! I personally would go elsewhere for a lamb/beef shawarma wrap to get a better deal. Especially if really hungry (I mean a lamb/beef shawarma wrap with fries added! I'm definitely not fasting here, but ya sort made me!), or else you'll be left hanging. If you eat on the light side, then maybe this might work for you. The falafel wrap I purchased did not have this issue. It was adequately portioned! However the server neglected to give me a garlic sauce with it!!! Stopped by Shawarmaji when I was in Oakland. I went pretty early in the morning, so the place wasn't busy or crowded at all. The staff were kind and friendly. In terms of the food itself, I think it's ok and worth a try. I wouldn't say it blew my mind like people claim online. The flavor and taste is definitely really good. The only issue for me was that it was a little dry over all. I do want to try again, maybe change my order this time... Again, definitely worth a try. read more

At 12 inches in length, the lamb wrap is plenty of food to satiate your desire for some shawarma. The lamb was juicy and full of flavor, perfectly complemented by the garlic sauce and chili paste they provide on the side. My only two knocks are that I would have liked to see more veggies on the wrap itself. The wrap had a sprinkling of diced tomatoes, but no leafy greens or onions. With my Chicago bestie Sarj in town, we were on the hunt for *standout eats* only during his visit. Heard many good things about this spot, for which he received two separate recommendations from locals (and I had coincidentally bookmarked to try my location in Santa Clara). We ordered a mini lamb wrap, mini chicken wrap, rose tamarind drink and mint lemonade. The lamb was gristly and dry, so I preferred the chicken wrap, but was disappointed to find that it featured only chicken (well-seasoned and juicy) and did not have any tomatoes, cucumbers, or other vegetables like the lamb wrap did. The chicken wrap was only chicken and lavash. Perhaps it was an oversight on the staff's part, even though the restaurant was not busy during a Friday lunch. And it also still took some time to get our orders out even though we were the only ones in line and there were only two other parties eating there. Maybe there were tons of to-go orders they had to fulfill? I'll be sure to check out the Santa Clara location as well in the future, but for this luncheon, we had to temper our disappointment by going around the corner to get some Gregory's. read more

Been meaning to check out Shawarmaji for ages and finally got the chance to do so recently. My advice is to get their addicting toum sauce with everything! My friend and I stopped by for a casual dinner Friday night around 6 pm and it wasn't too crowded. The menu is pretty straightforward with just one page, which made it easier to decide what we wanted. I asked what the difference is between a pita and the arabi plate, was told that the pita is smaller and doesn't come with any sides, whereas the arabi plate is a much bigger wrap and served with a side of your choice. I got a beef lamb pita ($10) with toum substituted in for tahini sauce and shared some of the chicken arabi plate + seasoned fries ($20.50) with my friend. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the pita... the beef and lamb were kinda bland and honestly tasted a little dry. Maybe I came on an off day, but I was disappointed by the beef and lamb. However, the chicken more than made up for it. Plus I was obsessed with their seasoned fries. Also make sure you get extra toum sauce because you'll want to dip everything in it! read more

I wanted to like this place, and I even gave it separate two chances before writing this review. Alas, it wasn't meant to be... I tried two of their supposed signature dishes--shawarma fries (chicken) and lamb/beef wrap. The good? Portions were decent and right at the cusp of what I'd expect to pay ($17.50 and $18, respectively). Now for the not so good. On my last go-around, the fries (and various accoutrements) were served to me ice cold. Like they had been sitting out for what seemed like no less than 30-45 minutes. This was a to-go order, so I suspect they simply had these plates ready to go ahead of busy night on DoorDash. I confirmed my suspicions because the box literally had a sticker reading "chicken" which meant they were grabbing these on the fly, not made fresh to order. I get that you have to do some prep ahead on busy nights (which mine was actually not), but where is the quality control? Compounding the issue, the entire dish was extremely salty. The meat itself was fine, but the combination of the pickled veg and overly-seasoned fries literally felt like I was eating a tablespoon of salt. Not well balanced. Poorly executed. Like they had just chucked a bunch of ingredients together without thinking how they would mesh. The lamb wrap was another let-down; the meat was dry, and honestly needed to slather on a combination of toom, tahini, and their house-made hot sauce (which was great!) in order to make it palatable. It also wasn't hot, not ice cold like the fries, but it tasted like the meat had been sitting. I also gave their falafel a try, and these were fine, nothing extraordinary. $0.50 ea seems cheap, until you realize they are quite literally the size of a quarter. Maybe this place was once great and their QC has slipped. Maybe we are simply lacking other high-quality Middle Eastern food in the area to compare. Maybe I came on two off nights. In any case, I won't be running back, and I don't suggest you do, either. read more

We have been going to Shawarmaji since they opened their first restaurant during Covid and then moved a few years later to their now location. It's located in downtown Oakland so street parking is limited, especially during the weekday. The restaurant itself is large and an open space with lots of indoor seating. The menu is limited but lots of good options! I ended up going with the chicken shawarma on fries and it was delicious! Lots of chicken and toppings and the garlic and hot sauces were the perfect add on. I do wish they had plates (ex. shawarma with rice, etc) for those who aren't in the mood for salads or wraps. This spot serves a twist on Levant-style street food with a few different options to satisfy your shawarma cravings. I recently took some friends here and decided to go with the Lamb arabi plate which comes with a lamb/beef roll cut into multiple pieces. The plate also comes with some tasty pickles and a side of your choice. I ended being healthy and going with the side salad which also comes with a decent dose of pickles on it. The meat was tender and flavorful and paired well with Shawarmaji's excellent toum (garlic spread). I could probably go on a whole side rant about how good the toum is here... Needless to say maybe consider grabbing a jar of the stuff if you ever visit! It's seriously addictive. Shawarmaji's vibe is a casual eatery where you can enjoy a wrap or salad with some friends or just take your order to go if you'd like. I really wanted to love Shawarmaji, but while their chicken based items are good, their beef and lamb is not so great. The honey and I dropped in as Shawarmaji boasts some rather plentiful comfortable outside seating. I ordered the beef and lamb wrap and a mini Shawarma Fries (both items can be ordered as minis). The fries were delicious. The included pickles really made the dish sing, but the wrap was so bland we threw more than half of it out. The lavash bread smelled/tasted slightly off and the meat wasn't seasoned enough to detract from it. The service was friendly and the honey enjoyed his chicken wrap, so all in all if we return we'd definitely order only the chicken. read more

Can't say I've noticed too many shawarma places in the area, and this was actually the first one I've had since moving to California. This spot has a clean and modern looking interior, and a small grab and go section for their own spices and spreads, including toum. I love how the wraps are long and thin, making it easier to eat without smearing sauce all over my face! For girls who wear lipstick, this is just what you need. Every bite was wonderfully flavored and packed with meat. However, $15.50 for a wrap is a lot crazier than what I'm used to for a fast food meal. Great convenient location in uptown, clean, bright location and ultra friendly staff! The portions were reasonable for the price, and the food tasted very fresh. We ordered from the counter (they call your number and you pick up at the counter as well), chicken shawarma fries and asked for a side of pomegranate molasses, so good! My daughter ordered a lamb/beef pita, and though the meat was a little dry for her, she enjoyed it. The desserts and water are self service. I ordered the chicken arabi. It didn't taste very fresh but I was hungry and finished it anyway. Soon after, I started to feel ill with some stomach pain. Today, the symptoms are much worse. After a phone consult with my medical provider, they suspected a food borne bacterial illness. The falafel pita was pretty good, but this time I noticed there being a really strong lemon flavor, which I am not personally a fan of and would've preferred it without the lemon so I could focus more on the spices, as I feel Shawarmaji does great at the spice/seasoning blends. As for the layali amman, it was unfortunately dripping and leaking and I think the box they put ours in must've been slightly broken, so we tried to salvage as much of it as we could when we got home. I got the chicken shawarma fries and they were so good. The base was freshly made fries, then it there was a lot of chicken added on top. I work near here so I've been meaning to try this place for awhile. Counter person wasn't very friendly or welcoming so I assumed the food was gonna be stellar. Ordered 2 pitas, lamb and chicken. Lamb was pretty flavorful, chicken not so much and both seemed a bit on the skimp side. I grabbed guava Jarritos, as they have a great soda selection. They also sell spices ($12.95 each, no thanks). Dining room is pretty unassuming but serves the purpose, they also have some outdoor seating so with it being a nice day we took that. All in all, my experience was underwhelming. Just tried this place - food was quite good. The white sauce was EXTREMELY garlicky which for me is actually a big plus, but beware lol. Portions were quite generous.
