We had a great vegan meal and there were a number of options for our falafels. We both chose a wrap and added the french fries and babaganoush. Service was friendly and competent. This is not a fancy place, but it is more than adequate, and their pricing was very competitive. Real, fresh food for people who want to eat healthy, but have flavor. The ambience is very airy and modern. The menu is limited, which I like. Make a few things and make them well! The food was quite good, we ordered chicken and lamb/beef wraps arabica (cut in smaller pieces). The garlic sauce is crazy good as are the pickles that came with it. Shawarmaji just provided my wife and I some of the best Mediterranean food we've had. Without question it's the best we've had in Oakland, and most likely the East Bay. The quality and texture from our meals were perfect. In comparison to other Mediterranean places, the flavoring was never too saturated nor overcooked or under seasoned. I can't preach about the ambience of the restaurant because we ordered late evening take-out. The service was good, and from what she told me, patient and professional as two rude customers who cut the line were asking a cashier ridiculous questions about if they needed to pay for free samples. Instead of creating chaos, the worker handled it well. I'd say the only issue with the location is parking. There is only street parking and it was impossible to find any nearby, so I double parked until my wife returned with the order. Regardless of that, we'll definitely be coming back and hope to explore more of the items on the menu. 5/5! read more

I went to this place after seeing few videos on social media, honestly I expected something decent based on what I saw. I ordered a falafel sandwich and a chicken shawarma wrap. The Falafel sandwich was very dry and had no tahini sauce at all, all I can taste was the lemon from the chopped salad in the sandwich. The order came with Toum instead of tahini sauce. The chicken shawarma came with toum sauce which is expected. Chicken was cut very thick pieces and had chunks of fat that you couldn't even chew. Chicken felt like rubber to chew and was very over seasoned. Chicken shawarma should be thinly sliced. My local shawarma truck makes a better sandwich and wrap for sure. Shawarmaji is my new go-to spot for falafel wraps! It seems like it for others too, since foot traffic has been heavier but that is only reflection of their quality food. The proportions are more equally balanced than other wraps I've had. The falafel is the perfect texture, crunchy on the outside and pillowy inside. But not oily at all. It's perfect itself but the garlic and chilli sauces only amplify the flavors. The fries paired well with it, but their side salad's vinegarette is a bit too acidic for me. Beautiful dining room with modern decor. Service is kind but sometimes can't keep up with the rush. I just picked up a falafel wrap and when I ordered, the person suggested I order it "ma' ali" style ($1 extra) with fries and eggplant. Legit Middle Eastern Eats with a super tight but well executed menu. This spot used to be a hipster breakfast sandwich joint, and I think this place is going to move across the street where Umami Burger used to be. Welcome to Uptown musical chairs. It'll be different in 2-3 years, truss me. Place's menu seems almost like a food stand where all they do is like 3 things but done in slight variations. There's chicken shawarma, beef/lamb shawarma, falafels and that's it. You can then either stuff these into a wrap with either lavash or pita, put in a salad form or over some fries. Good enough for me, I guess. So no significant rice plates/bowls with salad and meat of choice, and I didn't even see hummus, which was surprising. Beef/Lamb Wrap ($18/4*) They do a super legit shawarma with actual layers of beef and lamb that is spiced well and roasted on a spit, then to be cut into thick strips of tender meat. I loved the bites as it was so meaty almost like going to an outdoor bbq. I prefer these meaty bites over thin or shaved cuts as it is more natural and satisfying to me. What I really dislike are those shaved cuts of pre-formed gyro meat that resembles a dense meatloaf that for some reason Americans love in wraps. *scratches thick skull* But this really nice warmly spiced beef/lamb shawarma is wrapped in a super thin lavash that gets a bit of crisping from a grill. It is legit as it so light that is merely a vessel to put that delicious meat into. They also include cooked peppers and onions to the shawarma, so it totally has this fajita-like vibe. No fresh produce like lettuce, tomato or even pickles. Just mostly a meat wrap. And this thing is super long but thin, maybe only 2 inches in diameter but it is like a foot long. And they don't close the ends off so if you hold it upright some of the fillings drop out, which is a main gripe for me. Like you have to perform a balancing act to eat one cleanly. Not into circus theatrics for a basic meal. They are also pretty generous at dishing out tiny ramekins of several sauces. One is a white and thick garlic sauce that I believe is called Toum. The other ones I don't know the names, but they are equally delicious. One is an orange hued thick and creamy paste that is crazy good to dip into. The other looks like just pureed red chiles of some sort that wasn't hot at all, but has good flavor. Falafels (50 cents ea/3.5*) Super tiny falafels but they're also super cheap, like I got 3 for a dolla fiddy. I thought my wrap was a bit spendy, but these are the way to go if you wanna eat on the cheap. I'd try this in a wrap next time. I loved the interior as it was tender and flavorful, lots of herbs and garlic. But the exterior was too dark for my liking that it was starting to give off burnt oil flavors. If these were fried a tad lighter, then they would be close to perfect. Their tahini sauce is very thick that it is more spreadable than pourable. Tahini sauce rarely excites me but I will give the falafels a dip every now and then. Which is why I often look for hummus or babaghanoush as I think they make great dips for falafel. This place seems popular as even though we got to sit in with no prob, we witnessed tons of peeps rolling through for pick-up orders, whether locals on the run or delivery peeps (you often can't tell anymore). I would most certainly try their chicken shawarma some time and I would most certainly get their beef/lamb shawarma again for sure, but maybe next time over some fries and lots of that garlic sauce. 4 Solid Mid East Stars. read more

As a Palestinian Jordanian there's a few things I love more than telling people I'm Palestinian and Jordanian, shawarma is one of those things. For so long the only good shawarma spots in California where in the greater LA area and the OC, it wasn't till 2021 during outside lands I tried Shawarmanji and my life changed. I started making intentional pit stops in Oakland for falafel and shawarma. They consistently have the best booth at Outside lands too. Shawarmanji gives you incredibly authentic flavors and a vibe that fits that. My favorite is the beef shawarma, but the chicken is so good, especially with the toum! Toum is a garlic paste, and where some people would say don't go on a date here, I would say you not only need to, but how can you not when the food is so amazing. Despite being dubbed as the mini, it was an average size (please keep your innuendos to yourself). The size was more than adequate for a lunch portion and kept me stuffed until dinner. The meat was incredibly flavorful and enriched with robust, Arabic spices. It was mildly salty, spicy, and umami. Definitely opt for the spicy version! It's not too spicy but really intense in sheer flavor. Was this the best shawarma I've ever had? Maybe but it wasn't super remarkable. The side order of pickles, hot chili sauce, and toum were a must in improving my wrap. This was definitely one of my top falafel experiences. The crispy fries were really good too.
