Prior to last night's order I would've easily given Oasis a five out of five review, but unfortunately, the meals that my wife and I received for the first time were off. We have been coming to this location off and on for over two years and at one point, viewed this place to have the absolute best Mediterranean cuisine in Oakland. We've always ordered the Shawarma combo plate, which has always been filled with excellent lamb, beef, chicken, hummus, rice, and was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, last night was different. Among the first things that I noticed was the sauce that usually is more on the wider side looks more like a gravy brown and was nowhere near the same quality as usual. In addition to that, the food itself had a very gas fume like sent that accompanied it. The food did not taste anywhere near as good as it usually does, but it also wasn't horrible. The main problem I had was that it literally got to a point for us that we could no longer eat it as it was, and had to incorporate other sauces to make up for the lack of flavor and the overwhelming amount of cookware like taste. I also don't know if this is what cleared me out this morning. It's totally possible that given we ordered this not too far from closing. This was a rush job or they gathered what they had sitting in the back and use that to produce the dishes. We've had too many good meals here to not give them the benefit of the doubt. It's just unfortunate that we didn't get the same high-quality of food that we usually get here this time around. I can say from our previous experience is here that we've never had a bad one. The people have always been friendly, the place itself has always had a great energy and respectful nature to it, and they're always on time when it comes to their guesstimate of when you should come in and get your meal. I know that we will definitely be back there sooner than later, and holding out hopes that the next time we return, the food will be as great as it usually is. But until then, I will acknowledge this blemish and write them a very high 4/5. read more

Dare I say this is the best Middle Eastern place I've ever been to? Generous portions, delicious food, and fair prices -- the Holy Trinity of eating out. Please don't let the casual, unassuming exterior fool you. Oasis kitchen is the definition of hole-in-the-wall comfort food. I stopped by Oasis Kitchen on a late Sunday afternoon. There was no line and I received my food in 5 minutes. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered a chicken shawarma plate and my total came out to be approximately $17. The plate comes with marinated chicken breast atop a bed of rice, tzatziki sauce, pita, and salad. They do not skimp on their portions! I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and the chicken was piled high. Pita was warm and fluffy, and wrapped in foil. The portions were generous enough so that I had enough for 2 meals which is a definite win. There are maybe 2 small tables inside and 1 small table outside. Take out is definitely preferred as seating is limited. Inside is also a little smoky from the meat being cooked. Nicely spiced and balanced Hummus- not your smooth af store bought stuff.. little grainy, but bursting with garlic/lemon/ tahini goodness. I had a craving for falafel a few days back and went searching online for a "good" place in Oakland. The various restaurants listed included Oasis Kitchen, conveniently located close to home. The day before yesterday, I bought a few of the falafel balls to try out. As we all know, it is the heart of a good falafel sandwich, wrap or plate. If it is too crisp, too oily, has missing ingredients, it is better to avoid the restaurant and try elsewhere. I still have great memories of the falafels in the Sunrise café on Irving in SF... from way back when. Then the ownership changed and the food deteriorated. But I digress. After I brought them home with the Oasis hummus, the falafels were too crisp. Maybe it was in the fryer too long. I called them back and the cook apologized and asked me to try again. I went back yesterday and there was a different cook/chef, one Mohammad. He handed over a falafel ball to try - very good! It was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, not over salty and, IMO, just right. I ordered six and as an afterthought a falafel wrap as well. He was very efficient, making four/five orders at the same time. The wrap is huge! Enough for two meals. The taste was excellent and all the ingredients tasted fresh. I've never physically been here but we've ordered food to be delivered. We were both wishy-washy about what we were in the mood for. We were all over the map (literally) and couldn't agree. We saw "Mediterranean" and thought, ok this is a good compromise. When the food arrived, the quality was fantastic and the portions were huge.
