Shawarma, BBQ brisket, pita, hummus, and several toppings, including red cabbage salad and beets
    David S.

I meant to write this review a few months ago when my visit to Abba's Hummus was fresh in my mind. Instead, I was just scrolling through photos and came across one of the enormous and generous portion of food I received at Abba's --for a super reasonable cost for the Bay Area --especially when you consider it's kosher. My boss was in town from Los Angeles for a few days, and I proposed a few lunch and dinner spots for the two of us and another teammate to check out. Abba's Hummus was at the top of the list, so we went that first day. I ordered shawarma and a second meat -- I think it was BBQ brisket --to go with the hummus and pita. I was expecting four toppings, but the person serving me let me choose a fifth. I got purple cabbage salad, beets, maybe an eggplant dish, and a couple others. Everything was very tasty, and my colleagues enjoyed lunch as well. I came nowhere close to finishing, as this lunch was enough for multiple meals. I don't even think I finished it the next day. I will absolutely be back.

I've been searching for a legit hummus shop in the Bay area and I'm happy to say that I've found the one! So stop what you're doing and go grab a meal at this mom and pop shop. There's an ordering station and then they call your number. The store was a bit crazy since there were a couple of families with larger orders and the area is small. Once my number was called, I selected the 4 sides that I wanted. The pickles and the amba sauce were the best part. I liked that they didn't skimp on the sides and added more if requested. Again the AMBA sauce is amazing! You just have to get it. There's a nice outdoor sitting patio. I'll be back again!

We had Abba's Hummus (also Oakland Kosher Foods) cater our family event for 150 people. WOW! Not only were they super easy to work with, but their food was absolutely incredible. We had compliments from our friends and family all month! If you aren't familiar with their food, you can get lunch at Abba's Hummus, which is a part of the Oakland Kosher Food market. Same food! We will have leftovers in our freezer for months. This was by far the best option for our budget. They delivered on time, the platters were decorated beautifully. All around perfection. We ordered for 150 people: 1. Fruit platters 2. Hummus 3. Baba Ganoush 4. Falafel 5. Pita 6. Kebabs 7. Chicken Schwarma 8. Beets 9. Moroccan Carrots 10. Israeli salad

Was looking for a place that serves falafels, hummus, shawarmas, etc. in the Oakland Lakeshore area and based on reviews gave this place a try. We ordered the Hummus bowl with Shawarma which comes with 4 different toppings of your choice and and the Sabich Sandwich. I really liked the hummus bowl with two types of egg plant, beets, carrots and spicy sauce. The hummus bowl was really good, with everything seasoned to perfection ! The sabich was just ok in my opinion but would have been better if so it sauce was added. The pita bread was soft and chewy in a good way. There is also a grocery store and deli available for a full in shopping experience. Thinking this might be my new go to spot for this type of fare !

In the lakeshore neighborhood of. Oakland there's a new New York deli. I wanted a sandwich and stopped by. This place is two store fronts with a full, kosher deli and grocery store. The menu had authentic Mediterranean dishes and some traditional deli favorites. I was going to order a smoked Turkey sandwich, but decided to stretch my palate and ordered something called a Sabich, which had fried eggplant, hard boiled egg and up to four toppings from their deli bar. I added babaganoush (eggplant hummus), pickled onions, and purple cabbage salad. It was all put into a toasted pita, with some added tahini, and wrapped in foil to go. I also added some chicken soup to round it out. The pita was delicious! Such a mix of flavors and textures. The soup was mostly broth, but a strong bullion chicken flavor. More veggies would have been nice, but it was the real deal. The issue with my visit was the pace of getting the order. It took a good 20 minutes for me to place the order and receive it. There was one guy working the deli counter, one guy working the store and another buzzing around. There was only one guy ahead of me, but the line grew after I placed my order. It's a new shop, so they will figure it out, but worth a stop for the food!

First time here, always meant to try and finally did it! I ordered the pastrami sandwich and it came with the choice of coleslaw or potato salad. I opted for the former. They made the sandwich on the spot and called you when it was ready. I like that they have a store there too. They had seating outside but I'm not sure they wipe down after each customer. I did not see them do so. The sandwich was good, pastrami on point and I love the pickle. The cold slaw tasted watered down and a little old . The sandwich was smaller than what you get at Ike's which I prefer. Overall good sandwich but not the best I've had.

The place has a few vegan options . I ordered the hummus w 4 falafels that came w 4 sides of my choosing. The food was delicious - fresh and funny. I also bought the almond halvah, and it was super fresh and fluffy, not dense at all, just falling apart in my mouth - delicious. The guy that was helping me was not rude but not too nice either; very direct bit short , to the point. CC accepted.

I was just strolling around the neighborhood looking for something new to eat. Every time I see NY deli, I think of Katz deli. That was the reason I went in, wondered around and the tough decision was a bowl or a pastrami sandwich. I went with a 1/2 lb pastrami sandwich with everything on rye bread. Let me just say "OMG!" The meat was thinly sliced and stacked high, came with a choose of potato salad or slaw. Everything was delicious and fresh, I can honestly say, I haven't had such a good pastrami sandwich in a long time! This is def going to be my go to spot for a bomb pastrami sando from now on. Must try!

Meandering along the road looking for something to eat, happened across this place ... Okay WOW. YUMMMMM The hummus place I'm familiar with and fond of is Oren's, across the bay for the most part...but this will probably be my east bay go-to. VERY tasty hummus, VERY tasty toppings, and PLENTY of toppings to boot!! Impressed and satiated. Small, tiny criticisms: -i feel like maybe some of the toppings should be strained, I ended up with a puddle on my hummus. Maybe I just got too many toppings? It was absolutely delicious anyways. - feel like maybe I could do with a little more hummus - portion of actual hummus to toppings was a liiiiiiittle bit small. - one pita feels a little small. I would definitely pay for a second one next time!

Abbas hummus and Oakland kosher always gives you a taste of home- with great service, delicious and authentic middle eastern/ Israeli food. Always the best and only kosher deli and market to visit when we're back in the bay area, always greeted with a smile and great service and prices. We've had some of the best shawarma I've tasted here, so is there hummus, falafel, hamburger, pita and fries, we try to taste something new every time we go and they never disappoint! Reminds us of home every time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I really shouldn't single them out because I've noticed that a lot of the east bay delis have the same type of bread, but I will say that it just wasn't my taste. The rolls (I got the Dutch Crunch, sourdough roll, and the soft roll) were not that great and --like I said-- maybe it's the same vendors everyone uses in the east bay. For the cost, I'm not too enthused to try the other options. Every time I passed by their spot, it's busy, so I figured I'd try it. It's just not for me, but people seem to like it. ‍

I ordered a tuna sandwich with everything on Dutch crunch bread, along with some Harvest Cheddar SunChips and a Strawberry Kiwi Snapple. Let me tell you--the sandwich was excellent. The tuna tasted fresh, the lettuce and tomatoes were crisp, and that Dutch crunch bread brought it all together. Every bite was on point. Easily one of the best deli sandwiches I've had, especially from an independently owned spot. The place itself has a great old-school vibe. Lots of photos on the walls and even some Raiders memorabilia, which gives it a real local feel. When I got there, there were a few people ahead of me, so I waited about 10-15 minutes, but it was worth it. You can tell they're making everything fresh. There were about 4-5 people working behind the counter, and even though they were busy, they were still friendly, engaging, and interacting with customers, which I liked. The lady at the register was also very nice and welcoming. They've got a wide variety of sandwiches to choose from. I've tried a few over the years, but next time I might go for something like the Chicago-style meatball sandwich. If you're in Alameda on Webster Street and want a fresh, high-quality sandwich, this is the spot. Perfect for grabbing something to go and heading over to the park or the beach on a nice day. They have a modest but solid selection of Italian deli meats (Serrano ham, prosciutto, pancetta, etc), pasta, olive oil, vinegars, and a couple specialty jams (calabrian chile orange, etc) - basically all you'd need for a gourmet charcuterie board meal or snack. Last time I was here, picked ip a bottle of nicely aged balsamic vinegar from Italy, which has lasted me for a couple years. Today, decided to try one of their specialty Italian sandwiches with a shot of expresso on the side... and Mama Mia was the sandwich absolutely amazing! I highly recommend the Jamon Serrano & Manchego sandwich ($14.50). It comes with shaved ribbons of serrano ham, 1/5 inch thick slice of aged manchego cheese, a creamy spread of chevre goat cheese, chopped/marinated artichokes and arugula greens on a crusty/crunchy baguette (between half to a full foot long). I practically finished this within 10 minutes - it was so good! The expresso shot ($3.25) was also a good pairing for me. Loved the aroma, made from nicely dark roasted beans. Inside the venue there's shelves on the back wall, with Italian dry goods, oils, vinegars, jams, etc for sale. Seating indoors is about 5ish tables for 2 or more. Outside sidewalk has a couple tables too. Located on the corner of 9th & Washington St, mostly metered street parking in this area and a small hourly parking lot across the street.

The waitress looked comfortable wearing her pajamas and the cook in his shorts and t-shirt.... Odd, but whatever. Some standard tables and chairs and a cooler in the dining area for drinks. Handy, I suppose. Or, maybe that was the only outlet available? Who knows? Added character! Haha I'll share some positive notes: The French fries were great! Perfectly crisp outside and tender in! We ordered the pulled pork fries as an appetizer. It was okay. The pork tasted a little off, but not quite sure why. My daughter's cheeseburger was fine. My friends sandwich, BLT was also fine. Things went south from here. My sandwich was the brisket and the waitress said it was her favorite. Well... everybody has different tastes I guess because I felt like it was gross. The meat tasted old and it was absolutely the messiest sandwich in the Kingdom of Messy Sandwiches. I'm OK, in general, with messy sandwiches, but in this case it was extreme. I needed a bib and wet wipes in abundance. It came with a salad, which would have been great, except they absolutely DROWNED it in an apple cider vinegar dressing. The thing is, the dressing had a wonderful flavor, and it would have been quite lovely had it not been so cloying and gooped on so massively. It was literally inedible. So after three bites of the sandwich and one bite of the salad, I decided to send it back. The whole plate was just nasty. And this is where my rating went from a 3 or 4 stars to a two. First the waitress was extremely confused. Okaaay.... So she went to talk to the cook who then came out to argue with me. I was trying hard not to be rude. I just wanted to let them know that I didn't want the sandwich and they needed to take it back. I told him that I didn't like it. He proceeds to tell me that it is everyone's favorite, their most popular sandwich. That all of their sandwiches are messy. ( The BLT and the hamburger were not. They were normal) so I tell them that despite other people liking it apparently I did not. I explained how there was too much salad dressing and that the meat tasted old to me. They acted like they had no idea what to do with this feedback. I said please just take this plate away from our table. I was not paying the bill so I do not know for sure if they charged for it or not. But yuck. Who argues with a customer? Especially when it's about taste and perceived quality, as we all have different taste buds that's why there's a menu of different options available at restaurants! I worked in restaurants for many years of my life. I hate sending things back and I don't do it unless it is really bad or really not what I ordered. It's very uncomfortable to be confrontational at all with anyone at any time, but the reality is when we are paying for something we want it to be good and if it is not good we need to be able to speak up about it and hold them accountable to an inferior quality product. They made that very difficult.

It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.
