Ordered a chicken shawarma wrap with totum with doordash. After seeing the pictures on Yelp, I was disappointed by how small it was when it arrived. I also assumed it would be cut up but it was not, so I guess you have to specify that if you want your wrap cut up. However, the quality of the shawarma was fantastic. Very solid. This place is decent. The chicken fries are so good. Not sure if their is another portion size but it fits in a small box. The chicken is very flavorful and good. The fries are crispy. The falafels are 0.50 per piece, they are a little small but they pack flavor as well. They have a spicy chili sauce. That is spicy lol. A chipotle sauce I would rate 3/5. The tahini sauce is good and they have another sauce that I believe is a hummus. Overall I would come back to try other items. The service and people are very nice. Easily 5/5! This spot makes delicious and fresh wraps and pitas. I've had both the chicken and the gyro and they are both so juicy, tender, and flavorful. Took a detour to live life on the edge as I pull-up to this place in downtown Oakland. But that's what you do if you live to eat and try out new places. Yep I'm that bad ass. I really dislike going into Oakland to to all the crime of theft, robberies and hatred. Well this day I went all out and decided to try out the famously hyped Shawarmaji. Fortunately it's located in a what seems like a ok area a few blocks from the Lake Merrit. Managed to find parking almost in front of the business but that doesn't make a difference as you can be a target no matter where. Rushed in and placed my order and the entire time waiting I was concerned about my car being broken into. Small business with a decent amount of dining tables if you want to sit and eat. I knew what I wanted and ordered as soon as possible and left however it did take about 15 mins to make my fries and and a wrap. Really nice and polite service that gave it a star for me. The wraps are pretty much what you expect at any other similar joint. I didn't taste any distinct or unique flavor that took me off my feet. That also went for the fries as well. As much as I would like to try it out again it might be a slim chance that will happen. But kudos for the business being brave to open in Oakland and hopefully the city will be an attractive location for business to starting thriving again. If you really want to try this place either due to the hype or just looking to eat some middle eastern food, live your life and take the risk. You won't know til you try it. read more

I ordered the Chicken Sarookh (wrap) and requested the following: Arabi Style--paired with toum, pickled veggies and choice of fries or salad (I chose tabouleh). Rabieh Style--upgrade to add cheddar and hot sauce (aka Shatta) Abboudi Style--upgrade to add fries As an Arabi Style, the Sarookh was conveniently cut into bite-sized pieces. The chicken inside was tender and flavorful. The cheddar and hot sauce were both mild in taste and heat. I recommend requesting fries as a side order since their wrap is so protein-filled, especially if it's Arabi. Since I requested fries inside my wrap (Abboudi Style), I made the healthy choice for a tabouleh salad. The salad was fresh and seasoned to perfection. Of course, I had to add a special beverage to my meal, adding a Rose Tamarind Drink. I distinguished the taste of the rose immediately and detected the sourness of the tamarind in an instant. This beverage helped me neutralize my garlicky, toum breath! Of course, I couldn't get enough of the toum (garlic) sauce. One of my favorite finds in Oakland and all thanks to Yelp! We ordered the Lamb Arabi Style ($21), which comes with a wrap cut into bit sized pieces, pickles, tahini sauce, and a choice of side. The lamb was seasoned really well and went perfectly with the sauces. I really appreciate how they don't skimp out on the amount of tahini, hot sauce, and toum (garlic) they give you. They even throw in some mints because of how much toum is provided haha. For the side, we chose the Tabouleh salad, which tasted fresh and had a strong parsley flavor. So let me start by saying I really like the establishment, the people and love supporting my fellow habibis. Biggest complaint is the consistency is not there. Last two times I visited I ordered the Falafel wrap and for some odd reason they put lemon wedges in the wrap, like what??? Who wants to bite on a lemon rind?? I have never seen that anywhere before. Not in Lebanon, or in the states. Truly Mediterranean does not do this so why they do, I'm not sure. Fast forward to today and the I ordered Falafel without lemon rind/wedge and it was just OK. Too many pickled veggies, purple slaw..distracts from the Falafel balls. Which by themselves are excellent. In the wrap they are soggy from all the tomato, cucumber, slaw. Ratio is off. Less veggies more Falafel. Last few times I've ordered Shawarma (lamb/chicken) both times they were dry.. it should be tender and juicy. Normally, I order around 8pm so maybe its just the time of day..each time meat was dry..maybe the meat spindle is on its last leg..who knows. TL;DR: Falafel balls by themselves are really good. The wraps have too many veggies and lemon wedges?? Meat was too dry/cooked. All and all its a good place to visit but def not my go to spot. Yum!! Stopped by for a quick lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Parking was easy and plentiful on Sunday; free meters too! I had the lab/beef Shawarma Arabi style - meaning the shawarma wrap was cut into easy to manage pieces. The Arabi style also comes with your choice of side; I had the Tahini salad which went perfectly with my wrap. Make sure you grab some hot sauce on the side for that extra kick! I was able to make two meals out of this because of the portion size! My friend had the chicken shawarma fries which were SO gorgeous with all of the beautiful colors not to mention super tasty!! Just the right amount of toppings and perfectly seasoned chicken. I tried the Rose Tamarind drink on their menu (they let me sample it which was so nice!); it was good and I am a huge fan of rose drinks so initially I ordered it but then I tried my friends lemon mint carbonated drink in the pretty blue bottle and I switched to the lemon ginger bottled soda too. I order the Lamb Shawarma with rice pudding. This was a part of a large group order for my law firm. After biting into my sandwich I choked on something hard and felt sharp going down my throat. When I inspected my sandwich with the person who ordered we discovered a large piece of plastic and when we unfolded the plastic it got even bigger. I work directly across from there in the Center 21 building, which actually happens to be the same building that Shawarmaji will be relocating to! Yes, they have bought out a larger dining space right across the street from their current location so diners can expect a larger space soon. In the current location, the ambiance is dimmer mood lighting and there is plenty of seating. It is nicely decorated with plenty of wall decor and artwork. I believe the owner is Palestinian, so there is also pro-Palestine posters on the exterior glass and other middle eastern decor (although more contemporary). The cashier attended to me quickly and the food was brought to my table in a matter of minutes. The menu is not too varied-- the main meats are chicken, beef or lamb and the menu entree selections are mostly a variation of wraps. They also have vegan and vegetarian options in the form of salads and falafel. I got the chicken wrap. It was decently large (long?) for its price and I thought everything was seasoned very well. I don't eat a lot of middle eastern food and this was a great introduction. This place specifically I think is specialized in shawarmas/wraps, so don't expect to find a ton of middle eastern dishes to choose from. It might go without saying but this is an also good spot for anyone with a halal diet. I will also point out that the menu is written in both English and what I believe may be Arabic.
