I'm giving 3 stars because this isn't a chain store coffee shop, but honestly we found their food to be awful. I ordered the turkey paninni and the bread tasted stale and just very hard. The turkey was some cheap weird tasting slices, and the salad had like cheap wishbone dressing on it. 1/5 horrible wouldn't order it again. The lemonade waa very bitter and sugary at the same time. I added a lot of water to it. The orange juice was bitter and watery. Overall at almost $30 it's definitely not worth it. I wanted to give this place 2 stars really. Ny coworker's Lemon bar was very stale and gross 1/5 stars. My coworker also didn't like the mocha and didn't finish it 3/5 stars. Parking is difficult to find, food was horrible, we won't be back since we didn't have a good experience. read more

Came here for breakfast and it was so good! I love their avocado toast (Im a sucker for avocado toast) and I love the flavor profile. The iced chai tea was amazing - not too sweet but not too chai if that makes sense. I also got a scone to go and it was a great dessert to end the savory breakfast. They have great breakfast items, but our perhaps best known for their iced coffee and wine in the early evenings. Parking is super easy easy there's always a space nearby and it's a relatively safe area. If you're looking for a quiet place to work or study, this place is great. Just pick a table in the back and you'll be out of the way. The Wi-Fi is stable and I usually get about 75 MBS in terms of bandwidth, which is more than enough for what I do. read more

Service without a smile. I was greeted without a smile and she almost seemed like she didn't want to be there. I asked her if they did artistic lattes still and she said yes and offered a bear or cat and I said bear. It came out pretty cute (see pic). I ordered the taro latte and it was pretty good. I asked the younger lady for the password and she gave it to me. After 30 min, the internet stopped working. When I dropped off my mug, I told her the internet isn't working and she replied with "oh", then proceeded to check the register to make sure it's working but did nothing about fixing the internet. I've passed by the cafe a few times but finally went in today - sure glad I did! A friend and I swing by did a quick coffee and bite while I charged my car at the public market Super chargers nearby. Parking is available on the street or nearby at the public market. There is indoor and outside seating. You pay at the counter and they give you a number, you collect your drinks at the counter but they deliver the food to your table when it's ready. The service was nice, fast and helpful. I got the challah French toast and an egg on the side, I was pleasantly surprised by the almonds and fruit on the plate - it all tasted great. My almond milk bb latte came with cute latte art which was also a nice surprise. My friend had a chagachino - these are apparently all the craze lately. She enjoyed it; tasted like a mocha! The food is good. I've had a panini, avocado toast, and spring rolls. Coffee is quite strong too. The rating is for the price; price point is expensive and does not match the portions of food. I can tell that the deli meat used was low quality in panini because the roast beef one had a weird smell/taste to it. Still edible. The salad is really a handful and more of a garnish. Spring rolls i think are fairly priced but there is straight up more veggies than noodles. I got a veggie spring roll for under $10. EDIT TO ONE STAR: i just lurked through the pictures and in the past year, some pics show two slices, some pics show one. This means the staff just straight up lied about the bread they were serving it on (supposed to be sourdough) or just lied to me about the portions? I remember asking if they've ever served two slices when I received it because i was shocked they gave me a single slice. Wow. Worst offender is avocado toast. $13.75 for a SINGLE toast with avocado. It comes with ONE sliced egg on top and small pre cut fruit on the side. I think it's ridiculous that I got more avocado in a spring roll than on the actual avocado toast?? It doesn't make sense that a panini for $14 has all the fixings inside bread large enough to cut in half and serve, the avocado toast is literally a layer on sourdough smaller than the size of my hand. This is an actual money grab. I don't think the presentation of the feta is enough to justify $13. All the add ons to the toast are to mark it up. The service is amazing, and it's such a cheery vibe. Just be prepared to pay premium for the food, it's actually $$ instead of $z I love the coffee here otherwise. read more

I am in love - this was exactly the kind of cafe I was looking for! During the weekdays, Black Diamond is one of the rare cafe's that close around 9pm - what's more they serve breakfast sandwiches all day and some more hot food that is perfect for a quick dinner!! What really sets them apart besides all the great menu offerings and lenient hours, is the atomsphere and space's conduciveness to working/ studying. Wifi is a given, and there are plentiful outlets and tables available for everyone! Furthermore, the restrooms are very big and clean, which is always a plus :) I had the Taro Latte (yum) and Red Thai Chicken Curry (wolfed it down) which was just perfect for my evening where I wanted to get some work done. Overall, this is a great cafe for studying. They have outlets at almost every table, free wifi, and is open late. Decently clean. Plenty of seating. I ordered the Oolong Milk Tea and Thai Iced Tea. The That Iced Tea has a very strong flavor, which I like. They have their own version of boba, which isn't tapioca but has a similar flavor but different texture since it's agar boba. Service and ambiance: Good service, nice outdoor seating. Very friendly person who took my order. Food: I can only speak to the chicken curry dish. My main compliment is that I'm glad they have substantial items on the menu as I wanted to eat but also study so it was perfect. I enjoyed the variety of starches! However I wish there was more curry since they absorb it quickly (combined with rice). I also would pay extra for more chicken. In general it's a good size lunch portion without feeling too full, but I made it my dinner without eating much all day lol. There's plenty of boba places in the East Bay, but none within walking distance of me ... or so I thought. It turns out little neighborhood cafe/bar Black Diamond Cafe not only offers a wide variety of delicious homemade baked goods, but it also offers tea with boba! Granted, I have to walk about 15 minutes to get to the boba, but it's worth it, and by the time I get it, I feel like I've earned it. I've passed by Black Diamond (which also has happy hour deals as part of its "bar" side) while on my regular commute but never thought much about it. From the outside, you can see they advertise beer and happy hour specials, but there is no mention of boba. I don't know if this is because it is a recent addition or what, but when they popped up on a delivery app and I happened to peruse their menu, I saw they offered passion fruit or lychee iced tea with either agar boba or lychee jelly. The selection is very limited (basically to those offerings, so don't go there expecting a full-on boba shop experience), but the tea is delicious and the boba more than satisfying. I tried a lychee tea with lychee jelly, which was flavorful but a little too sweet for my taste (I still drank it all), and a passion fruit tea with agar boba with which I fell in love. On another trip, I had the passion fruit tea with what I think was brown sugar boba - also excellent. There is limited outdoor seating but a much bigger indoor area and a small bar with a TV for watching sporting events. And then there are the baked goods! So incredibly fresh and tasty muffins, danishes, breads, etc. You can also get wraps and a Thai curry dish. I tried the breakfast wrap, which I thought was fresh and tasty but a little pricey for the size. But I get it, the restaurant biz is hard, and things cost a lot these days, so if I have to pay a little more, I'm happy to do so to help keep a local business in business, especially when that business is good and offers me a quick boba fix! read more

[  OVERALL  ] I'm happy I discovered this gem in Emeryville. It's a pleasant, well-run, unpretentious cafe. Staff is friendly and professional. There's a decent amount of space inside. Great for a coffee with a friend as well as working or studying. [  FOOD  ] 1) Latte w/ sweetened almond milk: Tasty with very cute art! The art makes my day. It's not a large cup, but it tastes balanced and there are still two espresso shots inside. It's a pleasant drink and is my go-to. 2) Wings: Average-sized wings, maybe on the slightly-small side. The glaze is delicious though, as is the dipping sauce. I'm satisfied with this dish. 3) Thai salad + added chicken breast: The dressing is tasty. That said, it is a little thin, and I wish they provided a bit more dressing. It's yummy. There is an abundance of greens and crushed peanuts on top, which helps with fullness. The chicken came as shredded pieces of chicken breast. It was good and the cook was good - it wasn't dry at all. It worked well within the salad. A generous piece of bread is also provided. Overall, it was an enjoyable, filling salad and probably one of my go-tos. [  SERVICE  ] Great staff! They're friendly and professional, and do a good job running the cafe. [  ENVIRONMENT AND AMBIENCE  ] Chill, unpretentious ambiance. It can be a bit louder or quieter, depending on the patrons and the time of day. But it's generally a relaxed vibe, which makes it great to have a convo w/ a friend or work or study. Clever layout, where there are larger tables for groups, as well as smaller single/two-person tables nested in little corners. Although, I do have to vent - there are ALWAYS people having loud phone/video calls. To these people: please have common courtesy. Speak at a low volume, or take the call outside. Otherwise, everyone in the cafe is pretty much forced to hear a loud, one-sided conversation. [  PRICE  ] Price is fair, can't complain. I' be had a gift card for this place since September, but haven't been able to make it here until recently. The cafe has had really limited hours, so try to call ahead if possible. We seemed to always crave cafe food on a Sunday, but this place would be closed haha. I was most interested in the chicken pesto panini ($10.75) and the chili with bagel chips ($7.50) on the side. Both items really hit the spot for me and almost nostalgically reminded me of Panera from the good old days. We chose pepper jack to be used in the chicken pesto panini, and I was surprised they didn't have mozzarella as an option. While portions of the bread were a bit soggier, it was overall a really solid panini with fresh ingredients. The chili was a small cup for the price, but I enjoyed the flavors. The bagel chips were also a nice addition to dip and enjoy on the side. Definitely stop by if you're in the Emeryville area and looking for some cafe food! read more
