Everything is super flavorful and on the saltier side, but I believe the salty flavor is from salt alone instead of MSG so it doesn't leave you thirsty for hours. Stonestown is slowly becoming a restaurant haven, but I have no complaints. Le Soleil brings Asian fusion to the table in a very open, clean, and modern setting. Their pho risotto is innovative and a different take on your traditional pho. The risotto was creamy and had the familiar aromatic flavors of pho broth. The beef rib was juicy and delicious; the meat fell off the bone effortlessly. The bo luc lac had tender ribeye with shoyu butter, lemon pepper. The meat had good flavor- a bit of tart from lemon pepper and richness from the shoyu butter. The miso butter mushrooms were so good too. Salty, buttery, rich, and chewy; the variety of mushrooms showcased different textures. When the restaurant is full, service can be a bit slower. But overall service is friendly and helpful. The menu isn't too extensive, but still has a variety of items. The Le Soleil Stonestown vs Inner Richmond have a few starters/appetizers that overlap, but I'll definitely return to this location. read more

This is a great take on Vietnamese fusion. As someone from San Jose who grew up eating Vietnamese food regularly, I was excited to experience a different interpretation of familiar flavors. The menu felt both creative and well-executed, with each dish offering something unexpected. I tried the chicken lollipops, pho risotto, squid ink fried rice, and hai san spinach. Everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, but the pho risotto was the standout for me. It captured the essence of pho while presenting it in a completely new way. Came here before catching a movie and they were very sweet and accommodating. We let them know we had about 50 minutes and the food came out within the first 20-30 minutes. They made some recommendations to us and we were really impressed with everything. Our favorite was the 5 spice chicken, it was juicy and flavorful with a nice char. Made reservations for a group of 6 people on a Saturday at 7pm, was seated promptly at 7pm. Restaurant seemed pretty busy with most tables occupied so definitely suggest a reservation if you plan to before visiting. Water pitchers was refilled throughout. It did take a while for staff to pick up empty plate once we were finished with dishes since they dropped orders so quickly into service, but not a huge deal. Overall a nice spot for a modern twist on Vietnam cuisine, the chicken and beef were the stand out dishes for us, so give those a try if you decide to visit. I have been wanting to try their new location in Stonestown for quite some time now... and so glad I finally came. Le Soleil Stonestown did not disappoint... Everything -- from food to service, to ambience -- was EXCELLENT through and through. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a wait staff immediately. We were seated at a bar height table as requested. And throughout the evening, the wait staff was helpful, courteous and attentive. They did not miss a beat in offering us water refill, checking on us, or changing our plates. Excellent service!! Between the three of us, we offered a variety of appetizer and dishes; what stands out is the quality of their ingredients, and the sophistication and perfection in their usage of spices, creating excellent and balanced flavors. * Spring Roll wrap - A must order dish. Perfectly fried spring roll with lettuce wrap and spiced dipping sauce. Excellent! * Clay Pot rice - I really like the clay pot rice here. They use Chinese sausage and the flavorful pork neck meat, over fragrant jasmine rice.. it was cooked for perfection and packed with flavors. Note, their clay pot rice does not come with crispy rice bottom, but just ask if you want it. ;) * Beef Tartare- excellent flavor and soft fresh beef tartare... so good! * Blue Shrimp Ceviche - another dish that highlights their culinary expertise. Le Soleil is the best restaurant in Stonestown in my opinion! Everything we tried was delicious and perfectly balanced. My favorites were: the chicken lollipops, the crispy branzino (it's served completely deboned, yay!!), the pho risotto, and the miso mushrooms! If you like fusion food, you will love Le Soleil. This is a Vietnamese fusion spot located in a the Stonestown mall. We came here with a group of a friend's birthday. The dishes are super unique - the ones we ordered were a lot of carbs, but really great. I guess this is what a mall restaurant is... we missed the lunch hour for their special menu so we went with: Quail $13 this sucker was super tiny but it comes with a nice table side flame show by the server Chicken lollipop $15 I'm usually a big fan of fried chicken but this one was greasy, especially the pieces at the bottom were just dripping in oil and I felt nauseous after eating only 2 pieces, so it makes me wonder if it was bad chicken or fried in old oil Squid ink fried rice $20 came with a little bit of tobiko on top and tiny chopped squid pieces amongst the fried rice Garlic noodles $15 as other reviewers have mentioned, this was plain -- no garlic taste Braised short ribs $29 although the most expensive, this was the best dish by far. You only get about 8 pieces of boneless short ribs but they're tender and the Thai curry sauce was absolutely delicious -- I slathered it all over the noodles and rice. This dish also came with toasted sliced baguette but it wasn't good. I was skeptical by all the positive reviews here for a mid to upper tier Vietnamese restaurant in the Stonetown mall. I ate at Le Soleil at their Clement location many years ago and it wasn't all that memorable. I'm happy to report that this location surpassed all my expectations. We are a family of six and ordered a variety of food to share. The mussels was tasty if you like the tom yum it came in. The quail came in a hot plate where they then proceed to flambee it with some lemon and pepper. The chicken lollipops were piping hot and worth a try. All were about a 4/5. We also ordered the Garlic Roasted crab and it was huge. It came on top of a plate of buttery and garlicky noodles. Cooked perfectly and plenty to go around. Green bean and spinach in an egg drop slurry round out our meal with some vegetables. The highlight of the night was the Lao Mei Rice. The pork tenderloin in there was 6/5. It was deliciously umami and so tender. One of the best I ever had. Service was also top notch. Fantastic lunch experience! For a U.S mall, I was really impressed with the way Le Soleil was still able to bring in that standalone restaurant vibe. Staff were very friendly, and despite a packed house, were attentive to us. Thoroughly enjoyed each dish we ordered. The way I am so obsessed with this place! I came here for my husbands birthday on a Wednesday around 6:30 and was seated right away. Our service from beginning to end was amazing. I wish I got his name but he was so friendly and checked up on us often. The space itself was pretty open and modern looking! The food was sooooo delicious. It was our first time here so we didn't know what to expect but I will say it exceeded our expectations. We got to tom yum muscles and omg it was packed with flavor. I could drink the soup all day. We were thinking about taking it home to eat it over rice but we killed the whole thing. Then we got the lollipop chicken wings and the coating was so light and flavorful. The meat was so tender and juicy.. so good! Then we got the crab and garlic noodles! You should have saw my eyes when they brought it out.. that thing was huge for just 2 people. But I'm not mad about it because more for us :) the flavor was amazing and we got a lot of meat out of the crab! A friend took me here to treat me to a birthday dinner and it was fantastic! I am always a little skeptical of non-original locations but this place was great! Our server was super attentive and consistently checked up on us to see how we were doing and to refill our waters. We started with the lollipop chicken wings which were coated in this delicious crispy batter. I would normally complain of too much batter but since it was so yummy, I'll let it slide. We got the Hai San Spinach as our veggie dish and the flavor and doneness was perfect for the optimal texture. Lastly, we shared the Pho risotto. There wasn't much meat on the rib bone but it was very tender. The marinade leaned on the sweeter side, which I was not expecting but still enjoyed. It paired really well with the umami risotto. Our server overheard that it was my birthday as well and came out with a helping of mango ice cream and a candle. It was good quality ice cream better than the typical restaurant servings. I came to Le Soleil at Stonestown to grab lunch and happened to see they had a restaurant week lunch menu. I was seated about 15 minutes after arriving, and I was surprised that it was relatively busy for a Friday at 11:30 - there were 2 or 3 larger parties waiting to be seated. The space is brightly lit and open and generally upscale despite being in the corner of the mall. Service was a bit slow but okay overall, and when I mentioned my appetizer hadn't arrived after they brought my entree they were able to quickly get it out to me. I got a thai tea to start - perfectly strong and creamy after mixing. For my appetizer, I got the imperial rolls, which come pre-assembled: they're nice and crisp without being oily, and the little bit of veggies under it are nicely seasoned with fish sauce - I do wish there were a bit more veggie though. My entree was the laksa, which despite having a great fragrance and color wasn't as flavorful as I expected - I'm not sure if it was a lack of salt or spice, but it fell a little flat, and unfortunately the shrimp were a little overcooked. The service size was quite large though, with lots of noodles so I was definitely full afterward. Overall, Le soleil is a decent option at Stonestown - I enjoyed the imperial rolls and thai tea, but the Laksa fell short. I'm not sure I'll be back, but it's definitely popular so I might have just chosen the wrong entree. read more

We've been meaning to try Le Soleil since it opened at Stonestown. But didn't make that plunge until the other night. Nicely decorated and pretty fancy for being at Stonestown Shopping Center. We've had a good experience at the Clement Street location and thought this would be no different. It was different. ***OUR PICKS*** BO LUC LAC ~ the steak was cubed up in tiny pieces. It would have been better to see sizable pieces. At least the meat was tender and sauce on the side was tangy. Though it seemed more like an appetizer because you don't get a complete dish that is paired with some sort of starch and vegetables. You only get pieces of meat and some chopped onions. We usually see sliced cucumbers and pickled carrots on the side. It seems they're missing those important condiments to bring freshness to their dishes. 3/5 GARLIC NOODLES ~ we ordered this because the Bo Luc Lac was without rice or noodles. This was not buttery or garlicky. Tasted like soy sauce and a little bit of garlic. And all the noodles were chopped up like they couldn't separate the noodles and had to tear them apart. This usually happens when noodles aren't fresh. I can't say whether or not that was the case, but I've had garlic noodles before at other Vietnamese restaurants and noodles are long and garlicky with a ton of butter. This was edible, but not Vietnamese garlic noodles. 3/5 TOFU EGGPLANT ~ Eggplant was soft and tofu absorbed the flavors though it didn't seem to have fish sauce or typical Vietnamese seasonings. 4/5 I understand we are in a shopping mall, but the waitstaff that served us truly made it feel like a mall environment. She didn't smile throughout our whole dining experience and didn't seem to like her job much. And it showed. Then came the food. This is Vietnamese food? Honestly, it tasted more like Chinese food. You ever feel like watching them foodie videos on social media and then end up going to places that looked better on camera and the overall taste was meh? That was my fear when I saw multiple posts about this place. Decided to give it a go, made it to the restaurant at 2:50, just in time to order their lunch sets. While the restaurant feels like it's in the back, it's in the section with Kura, Tang Bar, Supreme Dumplings, you're not going to miss it. There are tables for individual parties or communal table. There's "outdoor" seating like outside of the restaurant but you're still inside the mall. Take out orders can be done on a giant screen right outside that "outdoor" seating section. Okay, back to the menu. Their lunch set got pho, laksa, banh mi, and something else I forgot. My mind was set on that laksa. The lunch set came with 3 curry fish balls, and a drink (tea or soda mainly, Vietnamese coffee for extra 2 bucks, and fresh coconut for extra 3). Went with the coconut since I'm weak against coffee after 1pm. It was a late lunch, so food came out relatively quickly. I do recall my server saying "I'll bring you some water" as I had finished ordering, and some other staff came through with the pitcher before he finished his sentence. The best part about laksa is that the soup is super tasty. The bad part would be the soup is too salty to devour. If you're a fan of coconut/coconut milk, this is a good one to order. While the soup here wasn't spicy nor salty, it was quite flavorful. Portion was huge. I did not eat dinner after this meal. The noodle was served with squid, tofu puffs, minimal sprouts, and 2 giant prawns. The prawn was quite fresh, the meat didn't stick to the shell and it was easy to eat without using my hands to peel. Never had bitter melon like this, loved it but bitter melon is a favorite, and not to everyone's liking. Yes, I finished it and would order again. FRESH VEGETARIAN SPRING ROLLS - Charmont cabbage, carrot, King Trumpet, accompanied by a sweet soy sauce that was poured over the springs rolls. Very good and would order again. Again, a light starter for what laid ahead. GARLIC NOODLES - Brown butter & Gilroy garlic. What's not to love - garlic! Didn't do add-ons since we had other entrees to add as a side. I would get this again for sure, the taro and jicama paired nicely with the rolls wrapped with lettuce, noodles, and pickled radish/carrots. Fried Branzino - Another great dish I'd get again. The noodles on the bottom soak up all this great sauce to wrap with lettuce rolls. And the fish was fried perfectly, it was crispy and tender. Le Soleil is located on Level 2 across from the food court at Stonestown, and they also have a standalone brick-and-mortar location nearby. The space inside is surprisingly large, with plenty of tables and seating, so you should be able to find a spot even without a reservation. I had been wanting to try this place because of the strong reviews, and wow, they definitely lived up to the hype! One thing to note is that they charge a San Francisco Healthy Mandate fee in addition to gratuity. This fee typically goes toward covering employer healthcare contributions as required by the city. It's not optional, so just keep that in mind when reviewing your bill. We ordered: Garlic Roasted Dungeness Crab: This was the star of the meal. For $89, getting a whole crab with garlic noodles felt like a solid deal. Highly recommend -- it was absolutely delicious. Bo Luc Lac: The beef was juicy and tender with a great balance of flavor. A generous portion and very satisfying. Chicken Lollipops: Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. This was definitely one of my favorite dishes of the night. I do not have enough compliments for this place. Mid meal we were already talking about when we'd come back. We ordered a lot but here are our highlights: Spring rolls: if you are allergic to seafood and can't have the other crispy lattice roll, this one is also tasty, refreshing, and has a great sauce. Crispy lattice roll: their version of the imperial roll but even crispier! Can't get better than this Bo luc lac: the table's highlight! It was so good. Everyone loved it Braised short rib: so good. Great portion of bread to curry ratio and the curry is so drinkable Green beans: SOLID. so good Eggplant and tofu: flavorful, soft, sweet with a TINY kick. Pho risotto: if you love risotto you'd love this. Idk if I tasted pho but it was good risotto! better than other places I've tried. Garlic noodle: it's a huge CHUNK of noodles. Can I say...I enjoyed this better than even some Michelin started restaurants? (Been to several) Like what? And is in THE MALL?! This place is situated in the back of the food court next to supreme dumplings and it seems pretty unassuming at first, but when we're arrived we were promptly seated even though we were running late for our reservation. We ordered the tom yum mussels, lollipop chicken, braised short rib, miso butter mushrooms and the mango sticky rice to finish. This has been said before but the mussels were some of the best mussels we've ever had! The sauce was the perfect balance of tangy, sweet, savory and sour complemented by amazingly plump mussels. The braised short rib tasted like it was in a coconut curry sauce and had crispness like they had battered and fried it after it has been braised which offered a satisfying texture with the sauciness of the dish. The miso butter mushrooms were good, however I was hoping for some crispness in the mushrooms honestly; I thought they were good, but I didn't think they were excellent. The lollipop chicken was really flavorful; crunchy and well battered in the outside and most and savory meat. It tasted great with the sauce but honestly was good without it too. And the mango sticky rice was great! We paired it with coconut ice cream and it went perfectly. This was just a great night out and the service was excellent. Highly recommend! read more

A Vietnamese fusion restaurant tucked inside Stonestown. We were greeted by the hostess and told there would be a 20-minute wait, even though there were open tables in the restaurant, so we walked around the mall. When we returned after seeing on the waitlist link that we were next to be seated, the hostess seated another party immediately and told them there was no wait. This was confusing, as we had been waiting the entire time. When we asked about our table, she hinted that she was waiting for a patio table to clear. About five minutes later, she seated us inside. It was a strange way to start the experience. We ordered the New Catalonian Blue Prawn Aguachile, four raw shrimps prepared in a delicious, flavorful sauce, which was a great start. Our second favorite was the lotus root salad; however, we wished there was more fried, crunchy lotus root, and felt the dressing was borderline sweet. As the meal went on, this became a common theme, nearly every dish had a subtle sweetness. The branzino was fried well, but we didn't care for the sweet sauce drizzle on top. We waited a while for our mussels by the time it came, we were pretty much done with our meal. Again we found the tom yum sauce was too sweet on the mussels. The "Wake Up Saigon," an espresso martini with egg foam, had a strange aftertaste, possibly from the aromatized wine, and is not something we would order again. Quite busy on Sunday but we were able to grab a table. Lunch specials include fishballs and a drink. Kiddo ordered the Pho Bo and he said he liked the broth. I ordered the Chao Bo that also came with the fried donut. The Chao Bo was a little bland but I liked the donut. The fishballs had a kick. Hubs ordered the risotto which was flavorful. I have dined at the clement street location and the menu is bigger compared to this location at stonestown. The stonestown location is nice. The menu here is limited and smaller. It has the garlic noodles and spiced chicken. They don't have the menu items that I typically get. I was disappointed. The service was good, but not as good as the original. read more

The best Vietnamese food I've had yet in SF area! I'm so glad I made it out, the stonestown mall in general is always lively and has lots of great shopping and restaurants in one plaza. The lunch special here is amazing - you get a large entree, side dish of curry fish balls, and a drink all for $22. I got the young coconut which was $3 extra but well worth it!! It was so fresh, delicious, and mildly sweet. The coconut meat was also tasty. My partner got the Vietnamese coffee ($2 extra) and it was also delightful! Intense, rich and sweetened with condensed milk For entrees, we got the laksa and pho bo. Both were delicious. The laksa broth is very flavorful - creamy and tangy and not as spicy as it looks. The pho tasted authentic and reminded me of the pho I had growing up in Houston. Definitely will be going back! read more

FOOD: Chicken Lollipop - If you guys have ever tried the lollipop chicken from Little Hunan or Sky Dragon this is similar but different taste. I still enjoyed their version but prefer the one from Little Hunan more. Bu Luc Lac - SOOO flavorful. I literally still crave this dish every day. The meat was nice, tender and juicy too! Would definitely get this dish over and over and over again. Tom Yum Mussels - also SOOO flavorful. Definitely a nice twist to a classic seafood! I would've never thought of tom yum flavored mussels but boy this was definitely so delicious and the portion was certainly generous for the price you pay!! DRINKS: The drinks were also super yummy and sorta dangerous because you can't taste the alcohol too much. SERVICE: Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! It helped my dad and I pick the dishes that we ordered. We pretty much chose all the dishes that they recommended and it did not disappoint at all! I've been going to Le Soleil since the Clement Street days--over 30 years now--and the Stonestown location still feels like the same dependable spot. My wife and I stopped in for a quick weekday dinner. The squid ink fried rice had great depth, with roe, shrimp, squid, and a solid hit of wok hey. The hai san spinach came out looking sharp, packed with greens, roe, more seafood, and a clear, brothy gravy that made it a light, comforting dish. It paired naturally with the fried rice since they shared similar elements. Service was friendly and actually helpful with suggestions. First time visit and in awe of the space and the diversity of dishes. Had an opportunity to get the five-spice wings (4/5), the hai san spinach w/ seafood (5/5), the risotto (4/5), and the bo luc lac (5/5). You get really powerful, authentic flavors that I can still imagine. The only downside are the slightly high prices and some portion size issues (wishing the beef rib for our risotto had far more meat than cartilage/bone). Preferring to give more of a 4.5 star due to the high prices, but the flavors, service, and ambience are absolutely top notch and a wonderful addition to the Stonestown Food Haven. Le Soleil has some real bangers that keeps me coming back - the lotus root salad, tiger prawns, miso butter mushrooms, and pork jowl rice clay pot are the top ones that make the meal. The food is fantastic and the service is quick. They take reservations but they haven't had much of a wait the past few times I've been. Compared to the other food options in Stonestown, Le Soleil is probably in the top percentile of average cost per entree. The inside decor is modern, and tables are spaced aptly from each other, so other parties' conversations won't bleed into yours. read more
