    Dumpling Kitchen is a great place to grab a meal if you're in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again since its far, but I would come back. Let's start with the great. Service was good and the space was clean--there wasn't much more you can ask out of a dumpling restaurant. We ordered the soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, and beef noodles. Out of that list I would only recommend the pan fried dumplings because it was a step up from good. The soup in it was piping hot, the pan fried skin was crunchy, and the flavors were delicious. The rest met the criteria's of a good dish but nothing out of the ordinary. Its solid. More of a preference than anything, I wish the soup dumpling skin was thinner because it's quite thick. The soup inside was good otherwise. The only con of course is their location. You have to find parking within the neighborhoods nearby and have to walk a few blocks depending on how busy it is. There isn't parking directly in front, making it not really wheelchair accessible. So with that said if you're looking for a solid quick bite, I definitely recommend Dumpling Kitchen.

    I really like this restaurant. The fried truffle rice with beef is very tasty. I hope they are less tasty cos there may be too much MSG. The shrimps are amazing, especially paired with the white sauce and Ubereats discounts! Cheers.

    Very busy and popular spot on Taraval Street for dumplings! Ambience can be quite loud during their meal rushes but service was fast and servers were kind. However, we needed to follow-up a few times for various requests - water, boxes to-go, etc. which was slightly frustrating to handle due to few staff serving customers. This visit wasn't the best experience, but from past visits I would not discount the quality and flavor of the food here! Definitely worth checking out. 5/5 - Shanghai-Style Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Star of the show and appropriately one of their most popular dishes. The crunchy bottom with the soft top makes this fun to eat, just make sure you don't burn from the soup inside! Seasoned well and left us wanting more to order! 5/5 - Black Truffle Beef Fried Rice - One of the best fried rice dishes I have had. You can taste a perfect blend of the truffle with the umami flavor of the beef in this savory dish. Couldn't stop eating it and perfectly paired with the dumplings we ordered. 5/5 - Xiao Long Bao - Loved the soup and the flavors of these dumplings. Great to match with your other dishes because the portions are generous here. Classic dish to order and is steamed perfectly to order. 4.5/5 - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Large wings that were cooked perfectly! The meat was very juicy and was seasoned well. We thought it was a tad too salty but couldn't blame them for what the dish is supposed to be. Definitely satisfied our fix for chicken wings! 4/5 - Shanghai-Style Chow Mein - Your normal chow mein dish that was savory and well-seasoned. The portion was very generous and we had lots leftover to take home. Nothing too special though with this dish and it was great to pair with the dumplings we ordered. 3/5 - Wontons in Chili Oil - The dish seemed a bit bland/under-seasoned with their house-made chili oil sauce. The wontons itself were decent, though not outstanding. Aesthetically, it looked appetizing with its scallion garnish but otherwise could have used a stronger flavor in sauce.

    Sticky rice roll: Must order, the donut roll was crunchy combined with the pork floss. It is cut into 4 pieces and wrapped in plastic Shanghai style pan fried buns: Filled with hot soup and crispy bottom garnished with green onions, must get and the top dish for the meal. Shanghai style stir fried rice cakes with pork: chewy texture for the rice cakes with lots of veggies mixed in. not overly salty or oily. Shanghai style steamed pork dumplings: tender pork on the inside, but not enough soup in them and the skin was thick. Shredded ginger is not provided and available on request. Green onion pancake: mostly dough with no green onion flavor, pass on this to save your money and order another appetizer Sesame glutinous rice balls in sweet rice wine: smooth rice balls of sesame for a nutty taste, there is the smell of cooking wine but it is overall light in flavor The restaurant was packed with patrons, but it didn't feel cramped.     Over all great meal! There chili oil, black vinegar and soy was a great condiment the dumplings. Everything came out hot! Food was flavorful, service was great. It's definitely a spot with hustle and bustle so be prepared to wave down a server. I thought everything was great my one issue was that the soup dumplings were touching each other so they would pop spilling out all that precious broth. I love a place that serves complimentary tea. And the gentleman in the corner working away on dumplings makes the ambiance feel legit. I think if the soup dumplings didn't touch this place would be a four star spot for me. Will definitely give it another try.

    Hear me out. Expensive, yes. But completely worth it! Such a great and unusual variety of options for dumplings, potstickers, buns, entrees, and all the other comfort food you're looking for. I absolutely love their food. Make sure to arrive early or order in advance, as the food can take a while when they're slammed which seems to be quite often. Completely worth found back to over and over again.

    Delicious dumplings! The pan-fried soup dumplings were a standout, and the chicken wings were cooked perfectly. Spare ribs were a bit chewy, but great service, a nice San Francisco location, and plenty of street parking made for an overall solid visit.

    On Saturday, February 7th, my friend and I went to Dumpling Kitchen around 1:00 pm. The staff spoke Cantonese/Mandarin and English. The place was clean, and we got seats quickly. We ordered the following dishes: Shanghai-Style Pan-Fried Pork Buns (6 pieces) They were steaming and very delicious! We highly recommend poking a hole at the top to let the steam out before taking a bite. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein with Pork We had never eaten this style of noodle before! Chewy and flavorful - a bit oily though. Hot & Sour Soup (Pork/Vegetarian) I got the vegetarian option. Please keep in mind that this is more on the sour side (which I like). The quantity is enough for about three to four people! I end up taking a small container of leftover home. Braised Tofu with Bok Choy The tofu stayed crunchy throughout our meal. This was the highlight of our lunch! My friend and I finished everything else. They accept both card and cash payments-- we paid in cash. We would definitely come back to try more dishes!

    One of my favorite dumpling restaurants in the Bay Area next to Dumpling Home. When I'm in the Sunset area, I definitely try to make a stop here. Everything I've tried here -- from dumplings to noodles to their baos-- have been phenomenal! Shanghai style pan fried pork buns - these are a must-try. Juicy/soupy, crispy bottom, it's a burst of flavor in your mouth. Soup dumplings (XLBs) - must-try as well. The wrapper is thin but doesn't break, filled with soup and flavor. Amazingly done! Their salted egg yolk buns are actually runny and is a good balance of saltiness and sweetness. Their other dumpling offerings and noodle dishes are also well done. Service is friendly and fast. There could be a wait but it's worth it!

    My mom has a hankering for dumplings and couldn't remember which one she hadn't tried on Taraval, so we parked and figured out she was referring to Dumpling Kitchen. We ordered: - Xiao long bao: good soup and filling, large - Rice cakes with sour pickled vegetable and pork: no flavor unless you eat it with the sour pickled vegetable, would pass on this - Shanghai style pan fried pork buns: dough is too thick and I expected it to be juicier inside - Beef shu mai: flavor is OK - Green onion pancake: too much dough...unremarkable, pass on this - Dry fried green beans: good They do charge a fee to use CC, which they list in small print at the bottom of the menu. All the tables around us ended up paying cash probably because of that fee - including us. It's decent, but wouldn't order a few of the dishes again. Have some mixed feelings about the place - will try it again and re-review in the future as needed.

    We arrived at 1:30 and there was no wait to be seated. I got the soup dumplings, green beans (not pictured), and wontons in chili oil (not pictured). The soup dumplings really stole the show and I think they are some of the best soup dumplings I have ever had! Just make sure to eat them while theyre warm or the tops may get a bit hard. The wontons in chili oil were different than what I was expecting and the wontons were a lot bigger than usual wontons sizes! They were very juicy but I preferred the soup dumplings. Green beans were TOP NOTCH so delicious! Highly recommend for a vegetable dish!!

    Never come here twenty minutes before they close for the afternoon. The female staffer really hates that. She bristled at me like an ex-husband asking for a reprieve on his next alimony payment. She demanded to know my order right away. I asked her for a menu, and she begrudgingly handed me one as she sat me at a table next to the kitchen. I suppose I could've left after all. There are plenty of other dumpling houses on Taraval. However, part of me wanted to see how this would play out. I tried to order economically to prove to her I was not satan incarnate. I went for the $8.95 Steamed Vegetarian Baos, a trio of dumplings with thick green skins and stuffed with lettuce, tofu, and shiitakes (Photo 8). Not bad. I also had the $14.80 Dry-Braised String Beans. I wanted something with a little snap. Also not bad especially accompanied by a side of white rice (Photo 10). At a reasonable pace of digestion, I finished my meal well before several larger parties lingering after the lunch closing time. Regardless, I received no further acknowledgment from the staffer who had moved on to chatting with her coworkers, but the daggers of her service malfeasance still felt fresh. FOOD -3.5 stars...dumplings and beans were fine on their own AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious enough SERVICE - 1.5 stars...bad timing?     My husband and I have eaten at Dumpling Kitchen a few times now. A friend of ours had told us about this restaurant, since we wanted to try a good Chinese restaurant. Our friend told us that this place was really authentic. The place is a modestly furnished restaurant, and the food is exceptionally delicious and modestly priced. We have ordered the Vegetarian hot and sour soup which is spicy and tasty. We have also ordered Chicken chow fun, vegetarian dumplings, chicken and mushroom bao and everything was wonderful. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed.

    What is inside the sticky rice rolls?

    Fried donut stick, pork meat floss, and some garnish.

    Does your restaurant use any peanuts, peanut oil, or vegetable oil in your cooking? My niece has peanut 🥜 allergy so want to make sure before bringing her to your restaurant.

    They use peanut product - the items that have it in it are marked. But if there is a peanut allergy, this is probably not the best restaurant because of potential cross-contamination.

    Do you take reservations for dinner?

    Yes on yelp! But if made by phone call, it must be a minimum of 6 guests that your reserving.

    Is there a picture or menu with the frozen dumplings available for purchase?

    Are they open for dine in?

    Yes!! Checking vaccine cards/barcodes for entry. ENJOY 😊

    What kind of (sweet) black vinegar do they use?

    They told me that they are using homemade vinegar. It has red vinegar brown vinegar white vinegar and other ingredients.

    Are most of the options labeled vegetarian also vegan? I know some must contain egg.

    Yes. Most of them are vegan as well.

    Do they serve dim sum all day?

    Everything on the menu is serve all day, expect couple items we have canceled.

    Does they have takeout?

    Yes! Absolutely. We have ordered takeout from them many times!

    Is this place gluten free friendly?

    Yes, except Dumpling. Just tell your request to the sever. But it’s not going to be tasty as usual.

    Does anyone know why they closed so suddenly?

    Just passed by on Saturday and they were renovating. Soft opening on Thursday, 4/11.

    Does anyone know when they will open again?

    Well, now it has reopened under new ownership.

It was really quiet when we went, midday, but beautiful inside and the service was great. I appreciate that they have a unique menu that introduces a lot of brand new flavor combinations. A refreshing opportunity to try new things. Most definitely will go back for that duck truffle fried rice and to see what else they have.

Restaurant is located half a block away from the Portsmouth Square parking garage so the location is convenient; unfortunately there is no parking validation. Prices were relatively pricey for a Chinatown establishment, but all the food were really tasty. The basic tea is complimentary (You have to pay if you want the fancier ones). Since the whole restaurant was packed, it took a while to get our food, but that is to be expected. Hong Kong style wonton noodle soup - My HK-born mother says this tastes authentic just like in Hong Kong, which is a rarity in the Bay Area. The stock is made from ground up dried flounder Beef cilantro rice noodle roll - noodles were smooth and silky. Beef was tender but my father thought the taste was mediocre. Also, the cilantro could be chopped more finely, and the rolls cut better to be more easily picked up with chopsticks. My mom didn't think this was worth the price. Shanghai pan fried soup dumplings - juicy, flavorful. Comes piping hot so be careful! Green onion pancake - not too oily. My hard-to-please mom thought this was pretty good. Shanghai soup dumplings - the star. Huge size with lots of broth. My mom thought the skin was nicely thin but I thought it was a little thick. Much better than Din Tai Fung (which I personally think is overrated/mediocre anyway) Cantonese dumpling soup - Off-menu item. Because we didn't want noodles, there were 8 dumplings. There were surprisingly large slices of shiitake mushroom inside. Pretty good but if I were to pick, I'd get wontons over this. We had leftovers and needed to take our food to go. Note that they charge a to-go bag fee of $0.30, so if you're a local, you should consider bringing your containers from home. Overall, food is great, environment comfortable, and I would definitely return!

As we peered into Hon's storefront window, we saw employees already busy making dumplings around 9am. We decided to give it a try and we were so happy we did! The servers were quick to seat us, give us water and take our orders using their tablets. We ordered the pan fried dumplings and the scallion pancakes. Everything was delicious! The dumplings had a good amount of filling and were hot and fresh. The scallion pancakes had plenty of scallions which I appreciated. I mean it wouldn't be scallion pancakes without the ample amount of scallions, right?! Lots of customers were having breakfast and I noticed many people ordered congee, so it must be one of their best sellers. Our bellies were satisfied and we were out of there in under 30 minutes. Bill came out to be about $23 after taxes and before tip. This place is great for a group of friends or families to sit down and have a meal while visiting Chinatown. The front of the restaurant has a kiosk to place orders as well (not sure if it's only for take-out orders). It's definitely a restaurant I would go back to when we are in the area again.
