Came to Ah Ma's Kitchen and enjoyed it! We ordered several dishes to share and all of them were pretty good! We started off with the XXXL boba because why not? Turns out, the boba is actually grass jelly which is nice because that's a little more refreshing and generally easier to chew. It also pairs well with the robust HK milk tea. Having said that, if you were looking for a boba experience, it will leave you pining for that chewiness. Next came the salted egg green beans, kiln chicken, and black pepper beef macaroni. Honestly, all of these are recommended. The beans were crisp but very bold with that salted egg yolk flavor. The kiln chicken is essentially XL foil wrapped chicken from dim sum but I can appreciate the table side presentation to really highlight how tender the chicken is. I did find the "special sauce" or jus to be a tad salty though. As for the macaroni, I applaud their use of a gluten free pasta. The springiness of the noodles were really good and ironically I had a second version of this later in the evening (despite never seeing it ever before?) with regular semolina pasta and Ah Ma's was world's better. We also added the spicy wontons which came sitting in this mala soy sauce that was really good! Would have as a dip for everything! As for the pineapple bun sandwich, it was just okay. I personally could have used more mayo to give it some unctuousness. It was pretty dry sandwich in my opinion. The lettuce and tomato also didn't pair well with the pineapple bun and detracted from the experience too in my opinion... All in all, I would come back if I'm in the area.

Social media really blew this place up, I see a long line on the weekends, but during the weekday for dinner, there's no line! The restaurant is pretty small so that also explains the line. Everything on the menu looked delicious and will definitely be back to try other items like the wonton noodle soup! Pork and egg Pineapple bun sandwich - the bun was a lil too toasted and made it hard to eat, it was hard and too crunchy. If it was fresh it would've been good. The egg was so soft and the pork was juicy and thick. I think it could've been a favorite if the bun was fresh, but maybe it's because we got it for dinner and it was the end of the night black pepper beef macaroni - al dente macaroni with yummy black pepper flavor, with tender beef and peppers in it, loved it! half kiln chicken - was piping hot and so delicious! it was so juicy and tender, and the servers tear the chicken apart for you. Definitely scoop the sauce/juices at the bottom, it almost tasted like ginger scallion sauce on the chicken but better garlic green beans - classic and standard, tasted great! I think they also have salted egg york green beans which is interesting XXXL boba milk tea - SO GOOD but I couldn't sleep after. I love that it wasn't too sweet and the "boba" is actually grass jelly, which I prefer over boba right now. If the giant bobas were actually bobas, I think that would be overwhelming and not good

We came here on a Wednesday night around 530pm. It was empty when we first got there but by 6 pm l the restaurant was filled up. We tried many things as we had a larger group. I enjoyed the kiln chicken, the Bo law Bao chicken sandwich and the clay pot! The other dishes were also really good. The spicy wonton wasn't spicy and The beans were a little too salty for me. For the kiln chicken if you want a whole chicken have to order a day in advance Overall good, would come back again to try more items!

We went to Ah Ma's on a Friday night, and it was quite popular! We ended up having to wait over 30 minutes before being seated. We ordered the black pepper beef and the half kiln chicken, both of which were flavorful and reasonably portioned. Unfortunately, they were out of the XL boba, even though it was fairly early on in the night, so I'd suggest that you go as early as you can if you're looking to try it!

Nice, unique Cantonese Resturant in Richmond. I've heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it for a while. Came on a random weekday for dinner and it wasn't too packed. We ordered popular half chicken, brisket noodles, and beef chow mein. Chicken was very good and moist. Certainly unique. Brisket noodles was exactly what I expected. Service was decent and fast. Wouldn't mind coming back to try other items.

Came for lunch on a Friday around noon and it was packed. We got seated and were served pretty quick, and we got our food in good time as well. There weren't too many servers but they were working hard. We ordered the stir fried black pepper beef macaroni, spicy wontons, half chicken (and a bowl of rice on the side), and an iced Hong Kong milk tea. The half chicken was my favorite - juicy and savory, five spice seasoned, with the sauce going perfectly with the side of rice we ordered. They debone the chicken for you which is nice. The stir fried black pepper beef macaroni had good flavor and went down easily, albeit a small portion. The spicy wontons had a strong ma la flavor but the sauce was quite sweet. Iced milk tea was good. Seating is comfortable and service is friendly.

The restaurant was pretty empty around 2pm and service was rather non existent. The bathroom had no soap or paper towels... The four of us ordered a cucumber salad, 1/2 kiln chicken, black pepper beef macaroni, and a scrambled egg and pork pineapple bun. The cucumber salad was ok, on the plain side. The kiln chicken was moist and fell right off the bone-- just a little too salty for me and the skin was quite fatty and still had a lot of hairs on it. We all liked the black pepper macaroni although the macaroni was overcooked so it just tasted like ho fun. The pineapple bun sandwich was pretty good tho and the pork was super tender. My friend got the XxxL boba milk tea, the tea itself was really good but the "boba" is actually grass jelly, not my favorite thing. The HK lemon iced tea was really good and strong, I took half of it to-go and cut it with water when I got home.

I keep seeing this place featured on people's Instagram stories and wanted to see what the hype was all about. I arrived around noon on a Sunday and the place was packed. I added my name and phone number to the waitlist and shopped around Clement Street until they called me back about 30 minutes later. It wasn't too long of a wait, and it's very convenient that they call you when your table is almost ready. Most of the items I ordered were things I saw on social media, along with a couple of items that sounded interesting: The Food & Drinks XXXL Boba Milk Tea (Grass Jelly) Please note: the "giant boba" aren't actually boba, but grass jelly! It didn't have much of the herbal taste that grass jelly normally has, but the milk tea was nice and strong without being too sweet. Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wings (6 pcs) I was very intrigued by this item; I'm a fan of salted egg batter and had never seen it done on wings before. These came out piping hot with skin that was nice, crispy, and full of salted egg flavor. This is a must-try. Garlic Broccoli A well-made and flavorful vegetable dish. Stir-Fried Black Pepper Beef Macaroni This was my favorite dish, and I was surprised by how good it was. This isn't the standard pasta you'd find in mac and cheese; I believe it's rice macaroni, as it has a chewy, bouncy texture. The black pepper flavor was nice and strong. My only complaint is that the portion was a bit small--I wish I had more! Kiln Chicken (Half) From my understanding, this is their signature dish. If you want a full chicken, you must pre-order it ahead of time. It arrived piping hot, and the waiter--wearing thick heat-protection gloves under latex gloves--shredded it right in front of us. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy with a delicious herbal flavor. Scrambled Egg & Pork Bo Lo Bun Sandwich For some reason, this sandwich reminds me of a McChicken--I think it's the combination of the mayo, lettuce, and the deep-fried pork chop. The pork was surprisingly juicy and flavorful, pairing perfectly with the pineapple bun. Final Thoughts Overall, everything was great. I would definitely visit again!

My husband & I stopped by Ah Ma's Kitchen for lunch on Easter Sunday. Super packed but honestly the wait wasn't too bad especially for a holiday. We were seated I think within 30-45 minutes. I will say service was okay, they're super busy and constantly running around. We weren't given any utensils or water. Te space is pretty small so if customers insist on waiting inside by the door, it creates a blockage for them, which did happen while we were here. We ordered the half kiln chicken, deluxe chow mein, scrambled egg & pork pineapple bun, XXXL boba milk tea & iced HK milk tea. There were so many other items on the menu that we wanted to try but will halve to return with a few friends/family so we can order more lol. XXXL boba milk tea & HK milk tea - 7/10 the tea is pretty flavorful & surprisingly not sweet given that we didn't ask for any adjustments. Interesting twist with the giant grass jelly "boba". Deluxe chow mein- 7/10 super flavorful however for a deluxe the portion was just okay, the shrimp in the chow mein was super small and the dish overall was a little more oily. I would ask for less oil next time if we were to order it again. Scrambled egg with pork pineapple bun - 8/10 the pineapple bun was super flakey and over the dish was good. I think the only knock is the size of the pork cutlet, it was moist & not super dry. Also wondering if they make the buns in house or partner with another bakery?? Half kiln chicken - smelled so good even just as they were unwrapping the layers of foil. Beautiful roasted & well seasoned! They debone the chicken for you at the table! Overall, a pretty solid spot & would come again to try other dishes. I think the kiln chicken really holds them up but it is dang delicious. Also just the lack of space to write down your name on the waitlist because it fills up so fast. Hopefully they're able to find a better system that works for them soon!

Some neighborhood friends have been frequenting this new eatery on a quiet block on Clement Street. Coming on a Monday around 7 pm, I found parking a block away as I thought it was on that more vibrant block. There were two small parties dining already when I walked in and was given my choice of tables. I chose one halfway in to the right and waited for my friend. Due to a miscommunication error on my part, I ended up dining alone so sharing dishes was not an option. I decided to order a couple of things to eat and a couple to take home for future meals. I started with the HK Style Lemon Tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=nW048SSZt3if1dXxioJ19w); I was a little puzzled as this was a bit murky but the flavors were there. Food wise, the dragon wings (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=_jYtI5Be7x-ylUYyimzaSg) arrived first; I liked that there were hot and relatively crispy. The sauce is sweet with a mild heat from sweet chili one that is on the wet side. Definitely more of a fusion take on this traditionally northern Chinese or Taiwanese dish. There were six good sized wings and I ate half of them here. For my meal, I tried the shrimp wontons noodle soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=jQSoF9tpH5jkot0lJ9NE7Q); definitely an interesting take and modern take as it included seaweed, shredded egg, tiny shrimp (not dried), and a couple of baby bok choy stalks. I liked the mix of ingredients except for the baby shrimp that didn't really add anything to this. Wanting to try more of their 'signature' items and one that caught my eyes, I ordered a couple more things to go. I reheated the scrambled egg w/ chicken pineapple bun (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Bac_X8ZmfDRYsr6LAUA6GA) for breakfast the next morning; this is how it looked after reheating in the toaster oven, only the bun top (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=qdGxFW8gG8v5s8caE1dOeg). I was a bit disappointed likely due to high expectations. Only the top is a "pineapple" flavor and texture as the bottom is a mere burger bun. The chicken was fine and the mayo and lettuce were okay but didn't add much to this. A few days later, I reheated the stir-fried black pepper beef macaroni (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=AU7XV4AggkGICEC2drDyGg) which became two dinners. Think of this as a Chinese version of the Italian classic Cacio E Pepe without the cheese. This is probably my favorite item that I tried and I would get this again. As I ate, the dining filled up with five or six tables more being occupied. About 80% of them ordered the Kiln chicken, their signature dish as seen by their wall decor (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=X9ySUYeEb85VsB-g8onU8Q). Dining alone, I chose to try other items instead of having to bring home the better part of a half chicken. Service was simple for what I ordered. The waiter attended to every party/person that ordered the chicken in peeling and shredding it for them to eat. I would dine here again if in the neighborhood but nothing really to draw me here thus far. I'll need to try the chicken if I visit again with friends.

I was looking for a bite to eat and Ah Ma's caught my eye. The name of the restaurant translates as Grandma's Kitchen. I tried the signature half chicken and the Lo Mien with Beef Brisket. The chicken wasn't as tender as I thought it would be but it's a nice presentation with the server deboning the chicken at the table. The beef brisket was perfectly prepared. I also had the milk tea boba with grass jelly. That was refreshing. There was one server helping all the guests at the restaurant and he did a great job. The ambiance was bright and clean. I would come back for the beef brisket:)

Came here with my family on a Wednesday at 12pm and waited around 40 mins to get seated. There was only one server handling everything, but he was efficient. Everything we ordered was good and came out fairly quick considering how busy it was. The kiln chicken was the highlight of our meal, it was so tender and juicy. The pork bo lo bun sandwich was unique and tasty. The shrimp wonton noodle soup was ok, we felt that the broth was a little bland. Overall, the food was solid and worth trying. I'd definitely come back to try their other menu items!

I had been wanting to try this spot for a while, but since I heard the lines can get pretty long during peak hours, I decided to order takeout through Uber Eats instead. My son picked up the food and mentioned that the restaurant itself felt a bit chaotic and disorganized. That being said they did get everything right on my order. As for the food, we ordered quite a few items. The kiln chicken was definitely a highlight, really tasty and flavorful. That said, I do wish I had dined in, since having the chicken broken apart tableside seems like part of the experience that you miss with takeout. We also tried the cold cucumber salad and the stir-fried broccoli with garlic, both solid sides. The spicy wontons had more of a mala-style heat, with that lingering numbing spice that builds at the end. I also ordered wontons with noodles, and the broth was surprisingly rich and flavorful. It did have tiny dried shrimp in it (complete with little eyeballs), which was... interesting, but it added depth to the taste. Another unique dish we tried was the pineapple bao with fried chicken and egg inside, definitely creative and worth trying. I also got the milk tea but skipped the giant grass jelly balls this time. One thing I didn't order that many people recommend is their stir fried black pepper steak macaroni dish. Overall, the food was delicious. Parking is relatively easy since it's towards one end of Clement Street.

The Bo Kho dumplings were beautifully presented and tasted like Bo Kho. Probably my favorite thing I ate during the night! However, both Bo Kho and dumplings individually are not expensive items. So to put a $25 price tag for only 4 dumplings, it definitely feels a bit hard to justify getting it again for the price. That theme felt pretty much the same throughout the night. All of the dishes were decent and were presented nicely, but nothing I tasted made me go "wow, I need more of this". Crab was fresh, but nothing amazing was done to it that a fresh crab from another restaurant could not emulate. Nonetheless, if you're just here for the vibes and maybe a drink with a date/colleague, then this is a solid spot!

It would have been nice to have had a few more vegetables thrown in, especially the broccoli as I counted just a couple of pieces. I did like the tofu although I felt there could have been more and a bit more tender. They could totally redo the front patio dining area as I think it would draw more customers in. If it had not been for my friend recommending this spot, I would have walked by. Overall the customer service was good and I would come back to try other dishes - I'd say the popcorn chicken was my favorite.

Hard review to write. Probably more of a 3.5 review rounded up…read more Jump to service if you want to get into the main reason why. Quality/Quantity - We had a large group, thank you for accommodating. I believe we made reservations, where we would not be seated until everyone showed up. Good thing the group all showed up on time (for once, lol). Ordered the following for our table, our other table had our larger half of the group. But due to the door mishap, I did not want to walk over to take pictures of their food/order. Okonomiyaki Fries - Was too soggy for me, but everyone else on our table enjoyed it. Popcorn Salmon - I did not enjoy this, but everyone else on both tables loved it, so it was "a me problem." Boneless Fried Chicken - I enjoyed it, but no one else did?!?! I guess I have very different tastes from this group...? Tonkatsu Ramen - Good. But very basic. Beef Short Rib Plate - Three orders, both people enjoyed it. Actually, our young eater ate 1.5 of this plate, 1/2 from his mom's order. This order also came with a side salad and steamed rice. Bulgogi Plate - I can't remember if I got my rice?!?! Well, the beef was of decent quantity, I actually brought a little back home for leftovers, with the boneless fried chicken. At home, it was a little too salty, too much soy sauce. Sizzling Bibimbap - My daughter's dish which was also good. I believe she had leftovers. Our other table got the regular bibimbap, they said next time they will try the sizzling as they felt that was better. Lastly, our guest on the other table ordered one of each dessert for both tables. Mango Panna Cotta & Chocolate Tartufo - I am not a chocolate person, but enjoyed the Tartufo better. Our guest wanted Soju! The first time, so we ended up ordering two hot larges. Smooth and went down too easily. I then finished my meal with a Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. Boy I miss this beer, I have not had in a while. Too busy supporting local breweries. Overall, the food was just okay for me and my daughter. Ambiance - Outside looks good, and new. Love the menus and the happy hour information. Might come back for HH. Small local restaurant. A few tables and bar seating. Clean restrooms, two unisex. Street metered parking, free after 6pm. Plenty of street parking. Service - Okay, the front door has issues... It stays open, then does NOT close. It is slanted, so you have to "force" it to close. When we ALL got here, I guess we left the front door open by accident. Well, the waitress did NOT appreciate that (I stayed outside taking my Yelp pictures while everyone else walked in). She gave me a LOOK... While I was still outside, more people came in and I tried to close the door for them and because the door is slanted, it did not close and had to be "forced" resulting in a slam, sorry. Got another look... After that, I went straight to my seat. Menus on the table. Price - Expensive, or did we order too much? I think our bill with tax and tip came out to almost $800. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2017; look forward to trying your happy hour.

I ate at Le Soleil at their Clement location many years ago and it wasn't all that memorable. I'm happy to report that this location surpassed all my expectations. We are a family of six and ordered a variety of food to share. The mussels was tasty if you like the tom yum it came in. The quail came in a hot plate where they then proceed to flambee it with some lemon and pepper. The chicken lollipops were piping hot and worth a try. All were about a 4/5. We also ordered the Garlic Roasted crab and it was huge. It came on top of a plate of buttery and garlicky noodles. Cooked perfectly and plenty to go around. Green bean and spinach in an egg drop slurry round out our meal with some vegetables. The highlight of the night was the Lao Mei Rice. The pork tenderloin in there was 6/5. It was deliciously umami and so tender. One of the best I ever had. Service was also top notch. They were friendly, helpful and quick to offer suggestions and replaced water and plates with a smile.

This place is situated in the back of the food court next to supreme dumplings and it seems pretty unassuming at first, but when we're arrived we were promptly seated even though we were running late for our reservation. We ordered the tom yum mussels, lollipop chicken, braised short rib, miso butter mushrooms and the mango sticky rice to finish. This has been said before but the mussels were some of the best mussels we've ever had! The sauce was the perfect balance of tangy, sweet, savory and sour complemented by amazingly plump mussels. The braised short rib tasted like it was in a coconut curry sauce and had crispness like they had battered and fried it after it has been braised which offered a satisfying texture with the sauciness of the dish. The miso butter mushrooms were good, however I was hoping for some crispness in the mushrooms honestly; I thought they were good, but I didn't think they were excellent. The lollipop chicken was really flavorful; crunchy and well battered in the outside and most and savory meat. It tasted great with the sauce but honestly was good without it too. And the mango sticky rice was great! We paired it with coconut ice cream and it went perfectly. This was just a great night out and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!

We ended up ordered 1/3 of the menu, probably. Everything from their speciality squab to the limited time menu items like Singaporean chile crab. The popular dessert item was the red bean shaved ice, which was very nice to balance out the meal.

WHAT A GEM in SF Chinatown!…read more Hubby secured hard to get reservations and the very next day, I see a friend post her visit on IG Stories. I asked her, "What's good?" Her response... "Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.
