    Banh Xeo with pork
    Jamee S.

Quaint restaurant on 4th Street. Menu was simple with many protein options. Service was quick and efficient. For appetizer, we had the Banh Xeo (or Vietnamese crepe) with pork. I love this! It's flavorful and delicious. I could eat this as my entree and be perfectly happy! I wish they gave 4 leaves of lettuce. For dinner, we had: Garlic Noodles with Sea Bass Fillet & Grilled Pork - pretty good. I was hoping the noodles would be more garlicky. Tiger Shrimp Bun (Vermicelli Bowl) - also pretty good. Garlic Noodles with Chicken Pho Overall it was pretty good.

I've stopped by here three times, but this is the first time I got the food and dined in. The first two times I just picked up passionfruit tea to go. Naturally, I was curious to try the foods, so I came after working out. I didn't eat much during the day, so I was hungryyy. Luckily, the foods were up to standard. The house special assorted platter of traditional Viet foods was super tasty, and the beef banh hoi was pretty solid, although I wish the beef had a bit more flavor. It def relied on the fish sauce to carry it. Overall quite good though and glad I finally got to check it out and have the full in person experience.

    check please...

Cozy restaurant vibe that did not have a very loud ambience. Kind staff as well who checked in frequently. 5/5 - Garlic noodles with chicken. An absolute must order! The chicken was cooked very well. Tender and juicy. Garlic noodles were cooked al dente and perfectly seasoned. The two stars of this dish complement each other well. The pickled veggies paired with the dish also provide a refreshing bite of flavor that contrasts the warmth of the garlic noodles and chicken. I highly recommend trying this dish if you haven't done so! 3/5 - Pho with chicken. The chicken was lackluster in this dish, mainly due to its dryness. The broth alone still tasted very good in terms of savoryness and seasoning. It was a bit of a harder finish for us but I would recommend trying their beef with their pho.

The location of Que Viet is very convenient and the restaurant has lots of seating. Great and attentive service as well! I may have gotten the wrong item as the chicken pho was lackluster for me. The soup was very flavorful, but the noodles themselves were a tad overcooked and broke apart, making the dish difficult to eat with chopsticks. I would come again and try their beef pho instead.

One of the few places in SF that have Banh Hoi on their menu so friend and I decided on Que Viet. We came by on a weekday dinner around 5:30pm and it was pretty empty but felt cozy and peaceful with the calm Viet music playing in the background. Service was quick We got the woven vermicelli as well as the appetizer sampler. Appetizer sampler came with 2 of each item which was perfect for us to share and split. None of the apps stood out significantly but at least the Banh Hoi satisfied our craving. The beef wrapped within the leaves were flavorful and juicy, pairing with vermicelli, lettuce and herbs helped balance out the flavors. We loved that everything was fresh and portion was decent for the price! Throughout our meal there was a fly that kept staying around our food though so that was a little annoying.

I like this place. The ambiance is homey and cozy, friendly and food were delicious. It's a Viet Chinese owned restaurant and the menu is pretty large. I've had the "Banh Hoi" Woven Vermicelli. With pork sausage & grilled pork. And Ribeye Pho. The pho was decent, it was dark broth on the sweet side with taste of star anise and cinnamon. Ribeye were fresh and served on the side so it's entirely up to you whether you prefer to dip the rare ribeye on sriracha and hoisin separately (like me) or you like to mix and add the meat to the broth or maybe just swish swish (the sound and action of rapidly cooking the meat in the pot for 10-30 seconds before dipping it into savory sauces). However I highly recommend their woven vermicelli dishes. It's fun, you make your own wraps with the rice paper, dip in water, add meats vegetables and sauce and roll. Very fresh and fun. It' s a good neighborhood restaurant that serves Vietnamese comfort food at affordable prices.

Great Vietnamese dishes! I would recommend the garlic noodles, banh hoi, and imperial rolls. The soups were okay (a little too salty). Service was quick and efficient. Chill place to catch up with friends!

Super quick and service is very attentive, and affordable sit down right off the MUNI coming from downtown SF! Stumbled upon this place on a night out; parking is relatively easy on a Sunday with the streets being mostly clear. Que Viet offers your typical vermicelli bowls, pho, and even bun Bo hue (spicey noodle soup but please dont go here for that!) Restaurant space is very clean and well kept with some peaceful Vietnamese music strumming in the background. On to the foodie review! Grilled Pork Garlic Noodles Super filling portions coupled with a side of pho broth to pallete cleanse! Asian garlic noodles aren't your typical beat around the bush noods!! Full of umami, sweet, buttery and more-than-5 cloves of garlic goodness! Bun Bo Hue (not pictured) My friend ordered this and I got a sample of it!.... It's a short cut spicey pho broth. A true bun Bo hue has a subtle lemon grass sweetness paired with rock sugar as a base. Great dish if it was labeled as a spicey pho instead. Imperial rolls Deep fried to perfection I just wished it was worth its price point! ($12 for 3 full rolls) unfortunately they were out of pork for our visit so we had to opt for chicken and it was still as flavorful.

Woven Vermicelli with beef in betel leaves and shrimp / Banh Hoi Bo La Lot
    Catlynn N.

TLDR authentic viet food in SF Not a lot of places have first of all banh hoi which is this woven vermicelli and on top of that bo la lot which is beef wrapped in betel leaves. They even served mam tom (shrimp paste) sauce that was designed to be less strong and easily palatable. Typically the mam tom is too strong for most people. It was served with banh trang (rice paper) so we can roll it and it was amazing. The ambiance is quaint and prices are extremely reasonable for the amount of effort this dish takes. Would definitely go here again to get this same exact dish.

I came across Que Viet while exploring the city on a chilly day, perfect pho weather. The restaurant is cute, cozy, and filled with natural light from all the windows. On my first visit, I ordered the spring rolls with shrimp and the chicken pho. I love how they use the thicker noodles, and the chicken broth was very flavorful. I went back again to try the beef tartare and the shrimp pho. The broth isn't really like traditional pho, but it's still very tasty. My only complaint is that both times the herb and green onion portions were a bit skimpy, and I had to ask for extra. Overall, I would definitely eat here again

I visited on a Monday afternoon when looking for a late lunch option in the city - no lot, surrounding street parking only. I ordered the Beef Pho and my boyfriend ordered the Short Rib Pho -- we were pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes, they were huge !! Only complaints were the price (~$20 each) and the fact that the short rib was a bit tough and was hard to get off the bone. Otherwise, the broth flavor was good and the amount of meat and noodles were very generous. This definitely satisfied the pho craving that I had, but not sure if it's somewhere I'd visit again as it didn't stand out. It is a solid choice if you're in the area and craving pho though!

Lunch special mini beef pho (comes with 2 pc imperial rolls) the broth here is SO good!

I stumbled on this restaurant last year while in mission bay for an appointment. The inside is really cute and modern and the service is attentive. Stopped in for lunch today and ordered the house favorites (imperial rolls, banh khot, banh xeo, shrimp spring rolls, and pot stickers), lunch special mini beef pho, and the garlic egg noodles with sea bass and pork. We shared all of it family style and every bite was so good! Previously I'd only tried the pho (my fave in the city), so this was a treat. The house favorite platter had such a good variety of things and the garlic noodles were so full of garlic flavor! I love this little viet spot.

Filipino-Japanese fusion has been a tried and true combination, including my boyfriend and I's relationship (ba dum tss). However, Ox and Tiger have MASTERED the fusion aspect. Ox and Tiger is an intimate dining experience, with 8 seats, and gorgeous plating, menu, and cute chopstick rests! Comes with 3 courses with an additional 4th add-on. They also have a drinking menu, and they noted that the menu changes every 2 months (every even month!) EJ is such a wonderful story teller, and Hitomi (who created the menu for the month of May) had a great twist on everyday classics in Japanese cuisine. As the dishes were prepared and presented, EJ would tell the backstory on the dish(es), a personal note about each, and Hitomi's take on it to sweeten the deal. As soon as the experience starts, EJ tells us that the doors will be locked to prevent any distractions from outside (aka if you're late, you're outta luck), but we were encouraged to go outside for air if necessary. (I tried taking these notes on the food while EJ was talking about each dish so bear with me). ESL lunch The backstory was that Hitomi loved caesar salad while going to school in America, so she created a "perfect bite" with a Japanese twist to it. The word "gomoku" literally translates to "5 ingredients," to which I was only able to remember 2 of 5 of the vegetables, which were snappeas and roasted beets, with quinoa and tinapa (smoked fish). The fish that was used wae a cured Spanish makerel. T.A.M.M.Y I wish I remembered the words for this, but this is actually Hitomi's English name when she moved to the states. The acronym aspect was for the class at the time to think of ways to learn to like their name (each letter was a positive attribute and I can't remember what EJ said). The backstory to this was that Hitomi, being born and raised in Japan, was actually the biggest fan of California roll - did not like traditional sushi (or raw fish for that matter). - T.A.M.M.Y. is Hitomi's take on that. This was monk fish, with the fish scraps dipped into dashi sauce and kyuri (Japanese cucumber). In other words, no part of the fish was wasted in the making of this dish (in true Japanese AND Filipino fashion). This also had pinipig (granola-like topping glazed in shoyu) [Shoyu = soy sauce] Omiotsuke Now this is where I was blown away. First of all, I did not know what the hell this word was in English, but I watched every part of this dish being prepared and was even more confused when it was presented as dessert. When EJ started explaining, it made all the sense in the world. There is a tofu skin roll, vanilla ice cream, a mushroom topping, cherry miso compote concoction (this is where I butchered the exact creation - this is where the flavor was distracting me from what it actually was). Did you notice the ingredients? What is one thing one will eat at any Japanese restaurant, almost as a courtesy/complimentary item? Omiotsuke is, as polite as one could possibly say, is miso soup. This is Hitomi's take on miso soup, the flavor was spot on. I never thought to pair dashi-like flavors with ice cream (there is already shoyu with vanilla ice cream, but this was a flavor sensation). EJ was so kind when my boyfriend and I admitted we came for an anniversary, and we even got to see his reaction when we said we were also Japanese/Filipino (I'm also an Ox, but no Tigers here). They took this lovely photo of us to commemorate the evening, which sits on our fridge to this day. Again, gochiso-salamat :) to EJ and staff! We hope to come back soon.

Situated in a small, 8 seat counter, dinner is intimate with dishes being prepared right in front of you. The menu features three courses, an appetizer, main, and a dessert - with the option for an additional add-on. Our meal featured a focus on fish, in particular mackerel and monkfish. Each of the dishes were deconstructions of familiar concepts such as Caesar salad and a California roll, but enhanced with new flavors. The mackerel was sublime, perfectly charred exterior with a still raw interior. The monkfish was tender, coated in a ginger, wasabi sauce next to crispy sweet rice and avocado. The dessert was by far the most unique, being a miso dashi, mushroom cherry coated coconut ice cream with a tupig-like mochi on the side. The savory, sweet, sour combination completely catches you off guard but becomes increasingly addictive the more you eat. So bold and absolutely memorable. Ox&Tiger takes familiar concepts, breaks them apart, then fuses them back together with a flair of Filipino and Japanese flavors. This results in dishes that are utterly unique and innovative. Additionally, with menus and playlists designed by family, this truly feels like the epitome of a family-run business and a meal cooked with so much care in front of you. This is absolutely worth a visit and an opportunity to try new flavors you've never experienced before.

Everything about the ordering process and the quality of the food itself was good but not great. There was no wow factor or anything that left me feeling extra motivated to return, but I also wouldn't be opposed if I were nearby and craving onigiri. There's a single kiosk in-store to order at, but you can also place an order with the person working the counter if it's not too busy. I wasn't sure what I wanted immediately, so I waited for one of my friends to finish before ordering. I added 1 unagi eel, 1 unagi onigiri, and 1 crab onigiri to my basket and checked out. I have absolutely no idea what's the difference between "unagi eel" and "unagi onigiri", and when I went to pick up my order, the staff member told me my order was two unagi and one crab. However, I was charged $4.50 for the unagi eel and $4.30 for the unagi onigiri, so go figure. I could not detect a difference between the two, and the price of each averaged out to $4.40, so it's whatever. I unwrapped one of the unagi onigiris to eat in-store as we waited for a Zoox to arrive. It was actually pretty difficult to extricate the seaweed and rice ball filling in one piece to consume together, which I presume is because the onigiris are each made-to-order and due to the freshness, the separate ingredients haven't had a chance to marinate and congeal together. As I had not eaten all day, I quickly devoured the onigiris before and after our short ride back to a café where some of our other friends were waiting. The onigiris were, as I mentioned before, pretty standard minus the fact they kind of fell apart. I would say if you like onigiris, then these will get the job done, but they're nothing exceptional, so keep your standards at baseline.

This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! The steak sandwich was absolutely phenomenal, with the steak seasoned and cooked to perfection and pairing beautifully with the charred onion aioli, plus a side of expertly crisped smashed potatoes that were so addicting. The steamed mussels were sumptuous and packed with umami, and I loved the two large bricks of toasted sourdough focaccia that were perfect for sopping up every last bit of the delicious dashi broth. But the pièce de résistance was the custard French toast, which I can only describe as the love child of bread pudding and tres leches cake as it was crispy on the outside but uber moist on the inside, custardy, and simply divine. In my opinion Lapisara ranks in the middle due to the other excellent options available. Seated immediately--had a reso but on a Wednesday morning not really necessary. It took a long time for the single employee to get to us but we weren't in a hurry. Cappuccino was very good in a cute "bear mug" and very reasonably priced. We shared a pacific omlet--not much crab, lots of shrimp, and nice swiss cheese/scallions but tasted kind of fishy--potatoes were only avg. Son said huevos rancheros were average. Price point good for SF and portions adequate to share. Location convenient so we will try dinner there tonight before a comedy show nearby. Dinner-5++ stars; 4 of us Had dinner last night-6pm-reso but not needed. only one other group dining. Single Waitress was great-we let her know we needed to leave in about an hour for a show and she timed everything perfectly--we even had time for dessert. we ordered so many items that she brought over an extra table--we shared everything family style. Most Yelp reviews only mention brunch but the dinner was awesome--service; food: taste/quality, presentation, portions, prices we phenomenally low for SF ($200 with a bottle of wine for 4 people). We started with the garlic butter clams-small but tasty. Tuna tartar was excellent quality and enough to share. Samosas were more like empanadas--very good with peanut sauce so good it rivaled my own home made. We continued our culinary adventure with crab fried rice-delicious, a large portion and my son who lives in SF and has tried dozens of crab fried rice ranked it in the top tier. The pacific catch rice noodles with crab was also excellent-big portion, lots of crab, tasty. Final entree was their specialty-Mussaman Curry. Wow, tender meat/potatoe "stew" with a very unique flavor from the star anise/cinnamon and peanut--to die for. Creme Brulee was very good with lots of fresh fruit accompaniment My only complaint was a very limited wine selection. Lapisaia will become one of our regular spots for dinner!!!

Well, I decided to look for something different than my usual favorite food and I decided to go to try some Cambodian food and I picked this lovely little spot in Ocean Avenue, so far away from my house. It was my lucky day, the food was delicious, fresh and made from scratch with a glass of great white wine and , SO IMPORTANT to me a lovely service, starting with a warm welcome smile from the owner and then with the outstanding kind service at my table from the young gentleman named (I think) Ethan. Now this little gem became one of my destinations. Great job beautiful people at Megan's Table!

We simply loved this place. The wait wasn't long, despite it being packed when we arrived. The…read morestaff was amazing. The place is small. They have packed in as many tables as they could in here. Yet it didn't feel crowded or like we would bump someone if we breathed. The food. That's what it's all about right? This place delivers. Every thing was as good as the last. They have a pretty extensive menu I wanted to try it all. Sadly I had to settle for Hot and Sour Soup, Wonton soup, Pork Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, Chicken Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, (8Pcs) Pork Dumpling with Sesame Sauce and Red Chili Oil (6Pcs), Numb & spicy pork Bao, Green Onion Pancake, (Sweet) Red Bean Paste Pockets. We had it family style. The 3 of us shared it all. There was plenty to go around. None of us left hungry. I can't even pick a favorite. Maybe the numb and spicy which wasn't that spicy. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed. It wasn't listed on the menu and we have never had seaweed in any other wonton soup so didn't know to ask if it could be left out. That was sad. All she could do was have a tiny spoon of the broth to taste it. The green onion pancake was very good. The red bean paste pockets use the same dough but filled with sweet red bean paste. They were a perfect way to end the meal. Next time I'm in the city I will visit again. Loved it all. It was worth taking the time to visit and eat there.

Dumpling Story is what I've heard to be Dumpling Home's aesthetic counterpart (sister restaurants)…read more The interior is definitely aesthetic, featuring a bright, modern, minimalist exterior. Menu is relatively the same as Dumpling Home featuring my faves like the numb and spicy XLB and the sheng jian bao. Both very delicious! The remainder of the dishes we got were also good. I will say the green beans left me wanting a bit more from it. But overall, my party had a nice, fulfilling meal. Dumpling Home will always be my favorite (still prefer it a TINY bit), but because there is less of a crowd, service was amazing! I definitely wouldn't mind coming back considering there the difference in wait time to Dumpling Home.
