Lao table has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants. Probably my favorite happy hour in the city. A $40 platter for oysters, sausage, chicken wings, and calamari?? An absolute steal. Plus $7 cocktails that are actually tasty and not too sweet, such a great deal. And they do not skimp on the food quality in the slightest. Everything on or off the happy hour menu, from noodles to stir fry woks to salads and appetizers are outstanding. I love that you have the flexibility to choose spice levels, medium already has a good kick, but spicy keeps me sweating, but still wanting to go back for more. Also the vibes of this place are immaculate. The decorations are so fancy, and it's always lively, especially on weeknights. Service is also great too, staff is very friendly and quick to take orders, without taking away from the personable aspect. Kobe beef, platters, lamb curry, and spicy margarita have to be my favorite items. Unfortunately they took the matcha lava cake off of the menu, which was my absolute favorite, but if they bring it back, I will be next in line to try it. The sticky rice tasted stale, like it had been sitting too long, and the papaya salad was off. It needed more salt, more fish sauce, more life. For the price, it just did not deliver. Service made it worse. Our server barely acknowledged us, even when we said thank you or asked for things. She forgot. Eye rolling, dismissive, no warmth at all. The ambiance didn't help either. Loud techno music that felt overwhelming and out of place. As a Southeast Asian, this was one of the most disappointing meals we have had in a long time, especially for a date night. LaoTable has pretty good food. Cocktails are sweet and barely alcoholic. And everything is way overpriced, even for SF. But it's pretty good, and it could be a lot worse. It could be Osha. Like I don't think I would ever go here if I didn't work nearby. Or if there were other southeast Asian sit down restaurants in the area (that aren't osha). LOVE this place!! It's honestly so rare to find Lao food that feels this high-quality and truly authentic. Everything we tried was packed with flavor. Their happy hour platter deal is such a steal, it comes with oysters, sausage, chicken wings, and calamari, and the cocktails are only $7 (beers even cheaper). Amazing value for how good the food is. I came with a friend on a weekend night on the later side and there were not many people inside. It's a nice environment right in FiDi, and the plates are beautifully decorated for sure -- but I unfortunately didn't really love the food, We got a coconut curry which had good flavor but the meat inside was a bit too sinewy and also it was small portion size-- we kind of finished it in a few bites. As you can see, the leaves take up half the plate. We also got a bamboo salad and was excited to try it but I honestly couldn't eat much of it, was actually very spicy and also the raw vegetables on the side wasn't the most appealing. I assume some other things on the menu are better but definitely wasn't our day. But its a great sharing size for a group of 2-4 people - the fried fish is crispy and delicious with a great sauce. But there is not that much meat on the fish itself - the tom yum is a bit watery and does not have a strong flavor, but it comes out on an open flame and is very shareable - the curry rice portion is super super small for the amount of curry that is provided. I absolutely had a feast here. I got Chicken Friend rice and it was good - not the best but above average. For the table fish platter was also exquisite. I can't recall which fish was that but it was really great..it also came up with so.many other item such as chicken wings. The seafood sizzling tom yum probably tasted the best. Thoughly enjoyed it. The Belgian beer they server was one of the best. In isolation probably every food I tried, I can find a better and slightly tastier version but a single place delivering and maintaining above average food quality over such a wide spectrum is rare. We came for lunch midday on a Friday and were sat instantly! The space inside is huge and the ceilings are so tall, it was the perfect place for a nicer lunch to catch up with coworkers. I was a little worried based on other reviews that the portions would be small for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised when our dishes came and the portions were MASSIVE! The rice dishes came with 2+ cups of rice and my Pad Mee Lao Prawns was enough for 2.5 meals. Flavor was great as well - nothing mind blowing but I was definitely happy with what I got. The place was walking distance from our location. I have been here many times before for team lunch. It's spacious dining area and one of the best services I have seen. They are not in your face asking every few minutes but knew exactly when to refill water/ get next dish and suggest great menu. Our go to cuisine when in doubt but this was still different. It probably was hunger too, but vegetable rolls with fresh spread of leafy veggies - lettuce, mint, basil, cilantro, dip with peanut sweet and hot dip- great combination as an appetizer. For mains we ordered sea bass in clay pot with chicken fried rice. It comes with small portion of white rice. The fish was tender and flavorful. Having lychee in savory dish was the first. We also enjoyed coconut water and Thai iced tea. Parking could be a challenge as always since this is very busy street. But we had parked under one of the public garages for $1.25 per hr. Came to LaoTable and had a really nice meal for Mom's birthday. We started by ordering the Garden Fish platter and supplemented it with noodles (me ka ti), the larm curry, and the sea & land. My favorite was probably the me ka ti noodles with the coconut peanut flavor combo. Having said that, I really liked the use of tendon in the curry and the garlic pork belly on the sea and land. The Lao sausage on the garden fish platter was also really tasty! After our meal, we obviously had to celebrate the birthday so we went with the (in)famous anchovy sundae. The staff also added a Thai tea ice cream with some crispy bits. The play on texture is very interesting on these desserts. And the anchovy? Ehh...! The savoriness, yes, but it does finish a bit fishy sometimes. I think this was probably my biggest downside for some of the dishes. Bits and pieces were unabashedly fishy like the papaya salad and the ice cream, on some bites. As for the showstopper fried tilapia; it smelled amazing when delivered but it was very dry upon drying to break it into smaller bites. Food was so good the last time I went here, so I had to come back. I had the pineapple fried rice and the chicken tom yum soup last time, so of course I had to order those dishes x2. I also tried a new dish 'pad mee lao" which is basically rice noodles with prawns. The last time I had papaya salad, I had ordered a "Lao Garden" which came in a small portion. I love LaoTable! It can definitely be pricey but everything is good here. I usually get the garlic wings and spicy basil chicken rice or nam kao but decided to try something else. My friend and I still shared a happy hour garlic wings, khaw Kai noodles, Lao fried rice, and Lao sausage. The Lao sausage was yellow (which I've never seen before) and spicy, just the way I like it. The fried rice was super flavorful, I loved the runny fried egg on top. I wish we were able to sub it for another meat instead of fried chicken. The noodles definitely tasted like caramelized soy sauce. And reminded me of pad kee mao. The house sauce on the side definitely added more flavor but it was not spicy. And now looking at my picture, I just realized they forgot to include the fried chicken lol. Again, I wish we were able to sub for another meat but still good nothing less. The service on this particular day was excellent, but it did get busy a little bit when a big party showed up, which delayed my to go food. The space is big and the interior is beautiful. I have heard a lot of things about Lao Table's happy hour. It is during prime time 5-7 PM daily. Decided to take advantage of it during SF downtown first Thursday's as the action is right in on the street front of the restaurant. We came in around 6:30 PM with a 15 minute waitlist wait. The SF DFT event was already in action with the DJ set visible from our window seat at the restaurant. Ended up ordering only one item off the HH menu as there weren't a lot of veggie friendly options to share. The Tom Yum dusted fries were pretty good. Their cocktails were pretty good but not strong. We also got the veggie versions of the thick noodles. Food was good, great presentation and misleadingly large portions that are mostly decorative veggies. Nothing I'd crave or come back for unless convenient. I'd say this place is mostly all vibes with filling food and great for large gatherings. read more

My team and I wanted to take our colleague (one of my besties) out for lunch since she recently got promoted/transferred to another department within our company. It's a bittersweet moment since my old team and I onboarded and welcomed her by taking her to Osha Thai. Now, she's ending with the sister restaurant LaoTable. The chicken was fried perfectly, although I do wished there was more of a garlic taste. There was fried garlic paired with this, but not much of a garlic taste to it. Otherwise, the chicken itself was juicy and it was a great starter 3.5/5. -S&P Crispy Pork Belly: This was really good!! I thought it might have been TOO heavy of a dish, but it was filling and did not make me sleepy at all. The pork belly was lightly crisp, and it paired nicely with the hot sauce that has a nice kick. I will say the rice ratio to pork belly was a bit off, but it was still a great portion nonetheless. The fried egg was cooked PERFECTLY and I do appreciate the slices of cucumbers and soup to cut down on the fat. Definitely a dish I would eat again!! 4.5/5. -Garlic Pepper Pork: I got to try a small bite of this dish and it was good! We decided to go for the Lao Table platter which features some of their fried appetizers (calamari, tom yum fries, garlic chicken wings, pork belly, beef jerky, and three different kinds of sauces) and the Original Lao Platter which included a sampler of their mains. The food was delicious,but there were definitely some spicy items (larb duck and hot and spicy beef soup) that are not for the faint of heart. While the presentation was beautiful, it wasn't a practical setup being placed on an elevated platter and some of the samples were not easy to split, despite it being a shareable dish (soup, lettuce wrap, fried cumin chicken, sticky rice which came in a bag). We also had to ask for bowls for the soup (unless the soup was meant to be more of a sauce?). There were moments where I wondered if we were eating things the way they were meant to be. Overall though, the two platters were a good amount of food that could be split amongst four to five persons and the food was delicious and flavorful! The restaurant itself was spacious, well-decorated, and able to accommodate for our group of eleven persons. Drinks-wise, I quite liked their cocktail selection from their happy hour Jim Julep and one of my friends ordered their Lao old-fashioned, which they lit on fire and gave the old-fashioned a unique smoky flavor. Their happy hour also looks enticing! They apparently have happy hour Monday thru Saturday 5-7PM and all day Friday which includes a varied selection of their appetizers, platters, and drinks, including some of the items we tried. I ordered their Tom Yum soup and I sadly left feeling really hungry even though my total was ~$31. Although the food was very pricey, I thought their wings had delicious fried garlic on them! The tom yum soup was good, but I wished it was more than just 16oz for $15. I don't know the parking situation here since I took the bus, but it's downtown, so I'd imagine parking to be very difficult here. For $38 it comes with ten oysters + Garlic Wings + Crispy Calamari + Lao Sausage. Split between two people, with an added $4 side of sticky rice, this was a satisfying light dinner. We were seated right away just after they opened at 5pm on a Tuesday. Service was good, 4/5, not the friendliest but they worked fast and food was delivered quickly. I got the mango mania mocktail ($10), which was just okay with too much ice. Ironically the mocktails and zero proof drinks are more expensive than the selection of $7 happy hour cocktails. Please add a mocktail to the happy hour menu! We were happy with the Taste of Laos platter- surprisingly the Lao sausage was the highlight! I also liked the calamari. Oysters were a 4/5, mostly for being so affordable ($1.50 each even when ordering outside of the platter!), but taking off a star because I had a bad stomach after.
