I came back for brunch with a larger group of friends and tried the Marina jook which was great as I needed something warm and comforting. The texture of the congee was luscious with a good amount of sesame oil and chili oil for fragrance. The bacon added a nice crunch and flavor as well. It's definitely a hearty dish and I took half of it home for later but really hit the spot. Our server was great taking different modifications and everything turned out pretty good. I tried a bit of the stone bowl rice and souffle omelet and both were yummy. Overall solid spot for brunch in the Marina but of course with Marina prices.

Blackwood had very standard thai dishes. Nothing that tasted bad, but I felt like there wasn't anything here that stood out in particular. I would need to order some other menu items to find out about their other types of cuisines, but based on the one I had it felt very average.

Panang Curry w/ Pork
Kellie C.

We tried the Panang curry with pork, the popcorn chicken, the marina strips, and the 24 hour beef noodle soup. Popcorn chicken: I honestly felt like we could have went without this. It wasn't awful, but the chicken was a little bit dry and I felt like it was mostly breading. Marina Strips: I thought the marina ships were not bad. The beef was very tender, but the flavors were a little too strong. They use Sriracha as one of the main sauces, and it was a bit much for me. Panang Curry: I've got the Panang curry was really good. I opted with pork and everything was cooked perfectly and the flavor was fantastic. It was really good to eat with rice. 24 hour beef noodle soup: I tried a little bit of the 24 hour beef noodle soup. The soup base was very flavorful and the beef was very tender. No complaints. I came for dinner on a Saturday night around 7 PM and didn't have to wait at all. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and decorated with flowers on the walls. The staff were really nice. I would love to come back here for brunch, which is what they are known for.

Fried Chicken Waffle 8/10

I picked my dad up from SFO around 10am and he was craving breakfast, so I took it as the perfect opportunity to finally try Blackwood Kitchen--especially since I'd heard such great things and wanted him to enjoy a really good meal. When we walked in, the ambiance immediately stood out. The decor was gorgeous: hanging colorful florals, pink roses styled like pillars, and a beautiful mix of gold and brown tones throughout. It felt elegant, warm, and very inviting--definitely a place that makes you pause and take it all in. It was a weekday morning right before New Year's Eve, so the restaurant was empty when we arrived, which made sense with people likely out of town or at work. Once we sat down, I noticed a standing heater across from us--and quickly understood why. The space was quite cold. Our server mentioned it takes time for the heat to kick in during the mornings, so my dad and I kept our coats on while reviewing the menu. To warm us up, we ordered the Apple Pear Toddy (non-alcoholic) and it was nothing short of amazing--10/10. The burst of pear and apple flavors was perfectly balanced, comforting, and exactly what we needed to shake off the chill. It genuinely warmed us up and set the tone for the rest of the meal. To start, my dad ordered the Marina Beef Strips appetizer and really enjoyed it--9/10. The cucumber paired with the spicy beetroot sauce was flavorful with just the right kick. He's not usually a fan of spicy food, but this dish hit the mark for him. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken and waffles (8/10). The chicken was cooked perfectly and I loved the fresh berries, but the waffle leaned a bit too sweet for my taste. With the candied walnuts, syrup wasn't necessary for me. My dad also ordered the Oscar Benedict, and before even digging in, he appreciated the spinach, pimento, and capers on the side. Once everything came together--the fresh crab meat, hollandaise, and parmesan--he gave it a solid 10/10. Every bite worked beautifully. As we continued eating, more guests started to arrive, and I realized we had come in right at opening. The service was excellent--10/10. Our server checked on us multiple times, answered questions, and even complimented our menu choices, which added a nice touch and made the experience feel more engaging. Overall, this is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. The ambiance and decor alone are a 12/10, and the service was attentive and welcoming. I'd love to come back during a busier rush to see how they handle pressure, but based on this visit, they made a strong impression. One suggestion: warming the restaurant before opening--especially during the winter and rainy season--would greatly improve the guest experience. Other than that, Blackwood Kitchen is definitely worth a visit.

This was such a cute hidden spot in San Fransico that I visited during my girls trip. The flavoring on the chicken and waffles was delicious! The chicken was cooked with a really good crisp. Then we tried some of the Thai dishes which were really good and flavorful as well. I loved the decor in the restaurant with all of the flowers.

Service was excellent, staff were kind and attentive. The food was delicious. I had the green Thai chicken curry: it was fragrant, spicy, and delicately sweeten served with creamy slices of soft fried eggplant. My son had the hot pot which lived up to its name. A sizzling mound of mango chicken, vegetables, and rice topped with a fried egg. We throughly enjoyed our meal and will return.

Walked in Saturday for brunch around 11:30. The place was pretty packed with people but we were able to grab seats indoor with no wait. They have bottomless mimosas for $26pp. You can choose from orange and raspberry but we asked for a mixture. Everything we ordered was pretty great and the service was quick even though they were busy. I really enjoyed the soufflé eggs, the marina jok moo and the beef noodle soup. I'd say a solid 4/5. There are seats outside and inside and they are dog friendly! The place is cute and I'd recommend coming here for brunch with friends.

No reservations on a Sunday morning for 3, we were able to walk in and sit down right away around 11:30am. We asked for recommendations and got what our server said was popular and he would recommend. Overall the service is good, the ambiance is nice, I'm unsure I would come back simply because there are so many other great brunch spots in the city.

Thai Fried Rice (chicken)
Mimi A.

Came by on a Wednesday for a late brunch. thinterior is beautiful with high ceilings and charming décor, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I was really looking forward to trying their mango salad but was a bit disappointed to learn it's only available at dinner (and it was just 12 p.m.!). I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken delicious, though a bit heavy on the onions. The chicken and waffles looked great but didn't quite deliver on flavor. The French toast, however, was amazing! As for the millionaire's bacon, I could've skipped that one.

I love Blackwood and have for years. It's perfect for guests and larger groups. I haven't had a bad meal here. Brunch is my favorite but also dinner is delicious. Service is very attentive. Love this place!

Thai Shakshuka

Their Thai spin on shakshuka is absolutely delicious. I take inspiration from theirs when I make it at home. The egg suoffles are also great. They do bottomless mimosas which is fun if you're in the mood and definitely attracts big groups celebrating.

Honestly this is probably one of the better restaurants in the Marina in my opinion in terms of food quality and value. I've been here plenty of times and it's always great and quick service.

How is the parking situation there?

Think average SF street parking- not too vast in terms of options but you may get lucky. Parking blocks away is the standard.

Any low sodium options for someone with high blood pressure?

I don't think so

Vaccination card required?

Not anymore

It states on their website that they provide delivery, but they are always "unavailable/closed" on their platforms/apps. What's going on?

Is this place dog friendly?

They have outdoor seating in front of the restaurant that is dog friendly!

As bomb as it looks, is there bottomless mimosas?

Yes!!!! But mimosas were average at best although I am picky!

Shrimp Pork Wonton (5/5): I really liked the peanut butter in this dish as it was unique compared to other wontons. It was earthy but also packed with umami flavor Mushroom spring roll (5/5): Definitely one of best eggroll I've ever had. The skin was flaky and not too crunchy. Finally came here on a whim and they had tons of seating available during dinner time. The inside is very swanky and I like the layout a lot. However, it was super loud inside so almost impossible to hear across the booth (the chairs were also super far apart so that also added to the difficulty). Food was really good-- way better than I expected! The dim sum type apps were all super flavorful and didn't taste too americanized. I loved the pan fried bbq pork buns, crab siu mai, and the prawn toast. The garlic shrimp noodles were tasty but tasted just like garlic and butter so nothing too special; would try something else next time. The beef short rib was the only miss for our table; the seasoning leaned too sweet for us and i didn't love the flavor of the beef. Overall a nice spot and definitely embodies the vibe of a "lounge" -- they look like they'd have a fun drink menu. Service was okay, but food came out very quickly and in courses which was nice.

Rooster & Rice is a chain with multiple locations serving up Khao Mun Gai (or Thai style chicken…read morerice), but my most recent order with them really fell flat. I ordered "The Original" with jasmine chicken rice, extra cilantro, cucumber, chicken skin (love that those are free add-ons), and an egg, and while the bowl was fine, all of the flavors felt like they could've been amped up several notches as everything leaned pretty bland and one note. I even swapped in the ginger scallion sauce, usually my favorite with Hainanese chicken, but it still fell flat and didn't bring the dish together the way I'd hoped. The dark meat was okay, if under-seasoned, but the breast meat was honestly pretty rough as it was extremely dry to the point where I was chasing each bite with water just to get it down. I added the chicken spring rolls as well, which were poorly wrapped and fell apart after a single bite, and they used the same overcooked white meat, making them basically inedible. If this is the standard for their white meat, I really think they should either stick to dark meat or make it clear that dark meat is an option without an upcharge. That said, my order was ready right when I expected it to be, pickup was smooth, and the staff were very nice and friendly, which keeps this from dropping lower in rating as I'm likewise hoping this was just an off night.
