    Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumplings

Dumpling Union has some solid highlights. The Tom Yum XLB was average at best and did not really stand out, but the original and spicy XLB definitely hit the mark and were much better. One surprise was the garlic string beans, which were excellent, and the spicy wontons were also very good. Not everything wowed me, but the stronger dishes made the visit worthwhile. Definitely worth ordering selectively.

Stumbled upon this place by mistake as we confused it with another restaurant with a very similar name. Prices I feel are a little steep for the portions, but I assume that's average for San Fran. We ordered the beef noodle soup, shrimp chow mein, bbq pork steamed buns, shrimp & chive dumplings and hot/spicy Sichuan dumplings. You must place order via QR code & all of the food came out at different times. Although everyone enjoyed their food, there was nothing spectacular about it especially being the price it was. Sichuan dumplings had very good flavor. Service wasn't great. They never once checked on us and had to flag them down for refills. Restaurant & restrooms are clean. You can find cheaper & better in Chinatown.

Loved this place!! So many options for dumplings. I got chicken wings and kung pao chicken dumplings that were amazing the best item were the chili dumplings. I still think about those dumplings I can't wait to go back. Overall my experience was amazing great service and ambiance.

Finally had a chance to try this place out! It's a cute spot on Union in the Marina! We ordered combo Xiao Long Bao (XLB) and Union XLB. They were both delicious and my favorite out of all was the Thai Tom Yum flavor! We also had two kinds of noodles: ChongHing Noodle soup was one. I personally love spicy so it was perfect. We also had the Shrimp Chow Mein. The pan fried onion pancake was a good appetizer. Workers there were pretty friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable so we would definitely go back again to explore their menu!

We walked passed this restaurant when we were grabbing matcha. Decided to come back and try this spot. It was busy for lunch but you get seated right away. There was also a lot take out orders. You have to get the chicken wings!!! They were sweet and savory. Super crispy. The dumplings were okay. I felt like the skin was a little thick. Not the best but still good. Food came out quick.

Delightful place. I had to try the unique Roasted Duck Puff in a shape that resembled a lovely duck or swan. I also ordered the Shrimp Dumpling with Cilantro. The server was extremely personable and we had a delightful discussion. I enjoyed the welcoming feel to the restaurant.

We stopped by for lunch after getting Kopiku when in the Cow Hollow/Marina area. Since we arrived before opening, we had to wait while they finished preparations to open for the day. We quickly got a table once they were open for business. After browsing the menu, we settled on the tom yum xlb, cucumber salad, and mapo tofu. I was initially eager to try the food, but it was honestly just okay and not that great. The xlb wrappers were too thick, and they added canned corn to the mapo tofu, which ruined the dish for me. A+ for aesthetic, as the restaurant does have a super cool aesthetic, but as for the food itself, I'll go elsewhere.

Service and ambience were good. Kpop boppers played all night. Food tasted good but portions for dumplings were so small. 8 pieces wasn't enough to fill me up, and I'm a small girl. I ended up having to order another shrimp fried rice order that I only finished 75% to feel fuller. Paid $37 including $5 tip. Most dishes averaged $15. Would only come here with friends so you can share dishes or recommend expensing it with another method like a company meal. Not ideal for solo eaters.

This is a fusion restaurant, not the type of place you take your Asian aunties to! Ok now that we've established that, this place is actually pretty solid for fusion food. I came with two friends and was pretty skeptical because the Marina is not known for authentic Asian food lol but I actually enjoyed the food we got here. I came with 2 friends who were vegetarian and got the vegetarian potstickers, vegetarian dumplings, and kimchi fried rice to share. The dumplings were pretty chewy and the kimchi fried rice was flavorful. The beef noodle soup was also pretty rich and a good portion size. Service was fast and the place filled up quickly later in the evening.

I've been here a few times and it's basically fast food dumplings. They are most likely frozen dumplings and not made fresh because they stick to the paper lining in the steamer and the insides fall out. The veggie dan dan noodles had not flavor or seasoning whatsoever. I really like the green beans. There's no hard copy of the menu and it's hard to keep track online of what you ordered.

Ordered takeout -- went with the pork, cabbage, and onion dumplings. They traveled surprisingly well; still soft and juicy when I got them delivered. The flavor was solid -- savory filling with a nice balance between pork and cabbage -- though nothing that completely blew me away. Overall, a dependable dumpling spot if you're craving something comforting and straightforward. Nothing fancy or over-the-top, but it definitely hits the spot. I'd order again, especially for a quick and easy meal.

got the chicken chow mein, it was super oily and there was a pool of oil at the end... flavor was decent though

3.5 stars - Not the best, but also not bad. Gets the job done if you're in the area and need your dumpling/Asian food fix. I would not go out of my way to come here again. We walked in on a Sunday evening around 630pm without a reservation and were seated right away. The crowd picked up shortly after we ordered, and by the time we were done eating, every table was taken. **SERVICE** I want to be lenient here because our waiter seemed overwhelmed once it got busier. The staff were nice but not that attentive. There were a few times when I tried to wave someone down and they walked right past me. The food came out pretty quickly though. **FOOD** Dan Dan noodles: The texture was good - just the right amount of chewiness and flavor. I would have liked it to be just a tad saucier, but it was still tasty. Not really spicy as noted in the menu. I asked for some chili oil on the side to add some extra heat. Chicken Truffle dumplings: My least favorite dish of the meal. We opted for this instead of the wontons in chili oil because this one came with 12 instead of 8 pieces. The texture was more like tortellini than dumpling, and I could barely taste the truffle oil. Pork XLB: Good, but not super memorable. **AMBIANCE** Super casual. The restaurant is small, but they make good use out of the space they have. I also saw 2 tables set outside, but it was too chilly to sit there. You walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. **PARKING** Almost entirely street/meters. Can be tricky as there are also lots of other restaurants and shops nearby.

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. I love donuts and fresh-made sesame balls are similar to a donut hole just with a filling that is actually food and so sweetly tasty. The outer fry was crisp and the insides absolutely perfect. Three dishes, all fantastic, and I walk home happy and thankful to Bao for a great simple meal!

And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
