Really cozy and underrated spot in the Marina. I've come a few times to Baan Yaai, often on a weeknight evening post-workout with a friend, and I've always enjoyed my meals here. It's usually not super busy and often there's a family or big group dining in. Green curry here is solid, but the Pad Kee Mao is quite good -- would definitely get that again. Omurice was also surprisingly creamy and delicious. The inside doesn't have a ton of seating but the service is friendly and appreciate a good Thai place in the Marina.

Was struggling to find some good Tom Kha in Boston and happened to stumble upon this little gem while visiting SF. The soup was rich, flavorful, and came out fast. The Thai tea was also smooth and perfectly sweet. Quick, delicious, and definitely worth coming back for.

Ordered for pickup and ordered pad thai with chicken and the thai style omurice (first time seeing this on a menu in SF so i was super curious!) The pad thai came with a few pieces of tofu and chicken which confused us, and it also was mostly noodles. I would've liked to see more protein. But the serving itself was huge so we saved the leftover noodles for another meal. I liked the crab fried rice -- it had a good amount of crab, but the eggs were not soft scrambled as advertised. Still pretty tasty and the rice was delicious under! And it was also a large serving. The inside looked cute and intimate for dining in -- cozy seating inside and very lively on a weekday evening.

We easily got a table for 7 on a Saturday around 7pm! Service is fast and friendly. Cute decorations! I loved the coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice desserts! Not too sweet, very creamy, and flavorful.

Green curry - this was a standout dish. Most flavorful green curry I've ever had. Full of veggies and lots of meat too. This is the real deal Roti - this was a letdown. Very greasy, not flaky. Just mushy interior. Papaya salad and pad kee mao were both tasty! The papaya salad was served with a bunch of raw cabbage on the side which was odd though - not very tasty.

Classic, delicious thai food in a very cutely decorated setting. It's a little bit hard to fit big parties here, but we were able to sit at tables next to each other. Service was quick and helpful!

I've been here before & it was good but was a little disappointed with my last visit. It could be because I came later in the day closer to closing time but the noodles weren't very hot and tasted a little stale or like they had been left out for a bit. The service was very friendly though so I appreciate that and they were polite about us being there an hour before closing. Two of my friends got the chicken noodle soup because it was a cold day and they finished all of it so that was probably worth trying! Ambiance is great and not too loud. Nice smaller restaurant to catch up with friends.

Cute little 'street food' thai joint owned and operated by a mother/daughter combo. Flavors were authentic -- and the hot sour soup delish! the decor strives to take you to a warm evening in thailand with little table and stool seating by a busy street; definitely a unique add to lombard.

Stopped by on a Friday night for some Thai food. Lombard street can be busy so we were lucky we got seated here without a wait. It wasn't too busy around the time we went (around 7pm). We got the pad thai, tom yum soup, and the sweet roti. We've tried roti before but not a sweetened version, so we were pleasantly surprised by this dish. The tom yum soup was flavorful and tangy. We got it with rice on the side too. Finally, the pad thai was fantastic. The portion sizes for all of the dishes were pretty big for the price. Overall, a great spot for some thai food at a good price.

The name means "Big House", which is why when we went in, it was a quaint small place. The sign said Thai street food, which there was a lovely sized menu but not the common street food I was expecting. Nonetheless, the som Tom, curry, egg rolls, and rice were yummy. Kind staff, Ambiance was lovely, clean, and good prices and big portion sizes.

Tom yum soup was a bit too much of tomato flavor instead of the lemongrass fragrant taste. Pad See Ew is Drunken Noodles and was adorned. They didn't use Asian broccoli but regular broccoli for this dish, otherwise, it would have been above notch. One has to ask for their spicy peppers and it complemented well with this dish along with other dishes. Green Curry was yum! Pineapple fried rice was spot on. Casual hole in the wall kind of spot with waitress service and the decor is hipster meets Thai. Great grab if one is craving Thai around here.

To get the best optimal experience at Khao Tiew, please remember to put your name on the waitlist and to get there on time when your party is close in queue (if you're not there, you're square, no expectations since they have tons of people waiting). I came here on a Monday night with my friend and I put my name down on the waitlist around 5 pm on the yelp app (heads up you have to be one mile away to be applicable to put your name down). Since I have been here before I know the deal and expected the wait. We were seated around 6:40 pm but it was so worth it in our opinions. The shop itself has a good amount of tables with a nice retro Thai feel from its decor. The servers are very nice and friendly but also the food comes out super quick which is what I personally appreciate as well. Here are some highlights from our absolute feast that we demolished (no food was left behind or forgotten). * Nuer nam tok: The medium rare beef was chewy, had the right amount of spice, and paired well with the crunch of the herbs. The saltiness of the meat ate well with the fresh sides of lettuce and cucumbers. * Crispy shrooms with ground pork: The crispy mushrooms were my favorite last time and the version with ground pork was exceptional. The mushrooms had a nice light batter and the sauce coated your mouth with an umami punch. * Drunken noodles: I love the amount of shrimp and calamari they gave! The noodles itself were coated in a semi sweet sauce that had a delicious soy flavor. * Duck curry: WOW the most tender duck dish I ever had, no notes! * Kaya jam with coconut ice cream: Creamy, fluffy, and a great way to end a meal. This dish is so hard to explain in words, you have to get it. Overall, amazing spot, amazing find, would wait 2 hours again for a third time :)

Both are rum-based and had a really nice kick, especially the Soi Ari with the pandan in the aftertaste (which we found super refreshing). Food we ordered were the Nam Tok Beans, the Pad Khee Mao, and the rabbit curry. Both of us love spice so the Nam Tok Beans blew us away! Did not expect that kind of packed flavor at all but it makes a seemingly ordinary bean dish so much more exciting. The noodles were cooked perfectly and made a great in between to the rabbit curry. Which speaking of, oh my god??? SUPER tender and fall off-the-bone. Rabbit can be a hard dish to put on for people who have never tried it, but I really appreciate that it's not as bone-y as other rabbit dishes I've had in the past. It really was like chicken but softer. Wow wow wow. Huge shoutout to our bartender for giving us extra birthday shots on the house. Never had Amaro before tonight but it was delicious. Did not get his name unfortunately but he's fantastic! The reason I give 4 stars despite the great experience was because I noticed less urgency from the host and the servers in terms of getting stuff out. Doesn't help that the place is smaller and more expensive for a Michelin star establishment. Sitting by the bar made a huge difference for us since we had a great experience with our bartender, but I have a feeling that those at regular tables that night might've lost patience with the wait times for certain dishes. TLDR: if you love spicy Thai food, have the money to spend, and aren't in a rush, this place is worth checking out.
