It's a great spot to grab a weekday lunch. I get the original and the riceless with dark meat. The chicken is always juicy and tender. The ginger scallion sauce provides a lot of flavor to the chicken. When I do get the rice, the flavor is slightly flavored so it complements perfectly.
Wasn't too busy on a Friday for lunch. Order came out Quick. Chicken was moist, the ginger sauce pairs well with the rice and chicken.
Was disappointed in what I ordered from this location. My food was warm rather than fresh and hot. I can tell that the rice was not fresh and had prob been sitting in the rice cooker for awhile because I tasted gritty and tough rice pieces. The chicken, similarly, felt like it was sitting in a food warmer for long period of time. It had a chewy texture and was warm rather than hot and soft. I had to microwave my food because I felt like it was not safely hot enough to eat. I would not recommend this location or the food here.
Popular takeout spot I think around 8 people picked up to go orders while we sat outside! The outdoor area is cute and was a great place to enjoy our meals! Food was good - I think next time I would get the Khao Tom Gai even though the portion was kind of small, it looked really good! Hours on yelp/google maps are also wrong! Said it was closed on Friday, luckily we were just walking by and decided to eat here so we knew it was indeed open!
great chicken rice! chicken was really tender and ginger scallion sauce was good. added a poached egg as well. the soup was also yummy
Happy Hour pricing is advertised for Monday through Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm and last hour before closing, which was 7:00-8:00 pm tonight. This signage is to the right of the entryway, fully visible. My receipt has my order placed at 7:29 pm, so clearly happy hour eligible. I entered the storefront already knowing what I was going to order, the young male working the front was sitting on a stool while looking down at his phone. I approached the front counter, he looked up at me as I continued walking to the counter to place my order, but then he looked back down at his phone.. So, being ignored completely and purposely, I order through the kiosk. I assumed the kiosk would be programmed to automatically discount orders during happy hour periods, but that didn't happen with my order. I, regretfully, even tipped on this order...for the kitchen staff, I guess... There was another pair of customers who had ordered before me already there when I arrived, based on the numbering system on their order compared to my name from the kiosk, it was clear that they had been rung up by a human. I'm waiting for my order and the next customer walks in, places their order, and the cashier tells them the total, then corrects himself and applies the happy hour discount, then tells the customer the discounted total. So, pretty sure I would've received the happy hour discount if he had bothered to ring me up instead of ignoring me and having me order through the kiosk. I don't know why I wasn't worth the time for this young person to put his phone down, get off his stool, and take my order...like he did for the customers before me and after me...but this purposeful discrimination cost me 25% compared to the other customers in the store while I was there. I'm sure it's more that he's just young and lazy, and not any actual discrimination or prejudice against me compared to the customers immediately before and after me, but I am genuinely curious why he ignored me after looking at me. It's so dumb. I love this place, and this location is better than the other ones I've been to. And, of course, the food still tasted as good as it always does. I didn't even go there because of the discount, I was just glad I made it before closing after driving 8 hours home from SoCal and wanted comforting food. I mentioned that the kiosk doesn't apply the happy hour discount and he just stared at me blankly without saying a word. I gave him a few seconds to see if he'd say anything at all, but then I bailed him out and just said "just so you're aware" and walked out. I'll still go back here after this, but obviously I'll stand there until a human rings me up and remind them about the discount if it happens to be happy hour next time.

R&R is usually my go to so I'm sad that I need to post this to warn everyone that something is seriously wrong at this location. I ordered my usual Original through Uber Eats and received about 2 ounces of chicken breast total in my meal for which I was charged $16.95 plus tax, tip and fees. I'm on a restricted medical diet so I've gone through phases in the last few months where I've ordered this exact meal everyday for weeks on end and there is usually a good sized chicken breast included. They either screwed up my order or have started ripping customers off. When I called to try to get answers the employee I spoke with was extremely rude and tried to blame the missing chicken on the delivery driver despite my telling them the package arrived stapled shut with the receipt and no sign of tampering. They refused to apologize and acknowledge that they'd either made a mistake or dramatically changed their portion size and instead kept trying to gaslight me in every way they could think of. The ginger scallion sauce is also totally wrong, instead of the delicious combo they usually offer this was just brown, grated ginger with some canola oil poured on top of it. They charged me the usual $2.95 for a tiny serving, though. DON'T patronize this location, something is seriously wrong.
The hours on Yelp is incorrect. They are open on Sundays. I ordered through Uber Eats and the food was ready in 5 minutes. On the app, you can customize to having extra cilantro and cucumbers. The food was delicious. I like how it comes with chicken broth as an appetizer. The ginger sauce was not salty. The chicken was smooth and not chewy. I'll definitely be back!
I've been ordering Rooster and Rice for years and years. Now I get to share with my 16 month old and she loves it too! Healthy & quick option that rarely disappoints. P.S. Portions are back to pre-pandemic!
Friendly welcome and kind service. Outside available seating / No indoor dining Khao Tom Gai was packed with a delicious broth. Very comfy , warming food. I wish the portion was bigger. My brother had the original and ate everything! He really liked his meal. I didn't get the Thai flavors that I was expecting. The Khao Tom Gai reminded me of the Filipino chicken congee. Nice bits of fresh garlic. Over all, I was expecting a little bit more. But it was still a satisfying meal.

Good spot with quick service. Also it's really only had take out but does have a couple small tables right in front. Chicken and rice were cooked perfectly and the sauce it was served with was super tasty. Kind of overpriced for what you get though. read more

I love rooster and rice. I usually go to the one in stonestown, but I was in the Marina area today, so I decided to order some food for dinner. The person working there seemed tired and didn't really greet me, but I wasn't too thrown off. I ordered the original with brown rice and was charged the extra $3 for the substitute. I was handed the "to go" bag fairly quickly, since I was the only person there. When I got home, I opened the bag to eat my food, but was disappointed to find that I got jasmine rice instead of the brown rice. I normally don't eat white rice as it spikes my blood sugar. Maybe I should have checked right there and then? I paid extra and didn't get the right order, while being the only person physically there. I'll be taking my business back to the stonestown location. read more
Passed by this store several times and curiously looked it up on Yelp. Three of my closest Elite Peeps raved about it. Ordered online for pickup today! Not really into poached chicken skin, so my Original chicken thighs were skinless. I chose the 1/2 rice/veggie combo. Ready right away. I was great! The sauce topping was flavorful. The chicken thigh was moist. The veggies not cooked overly, so it was a win! Thank you Melissa N for the suggestion! $20. I could have made it, but it's all good! read more

Very speedy service to get piping hot, flavorful food! Would return again here or other locations The original rice bowl had an excellent portion size of the chicken and that soy sauce ginger sauce is phenomenal. The chicken was tender and cooked skillfully. The broth was pleasant and warm to drink, helping cleanse the palate between bites of the rice bowl. Asked for a side of hot sauce which really packed some heat and was a little tangy. All their utensils and bowls were compostable which is great! read more
I love rooster and rice. I think the entrees are wonderful and the concept is amazing. But this time I received a meal that had jasmine rice that was burnt and it was as hard as a rock. This restaurant is known for its rice, and therefore its rice should be perfect. read more

A lot of options to choose and to add-on to your order. Their sauces are delicious. Prices(to me) are expensive especially side of thighs but I have to admit that their chicken tastes good and not dry at all. There are couple tables outside of you would like to dine in. read more
I found this great spot that serves fresh and delicious Asian style cold ginger chicken. The menu is simple and offers few options like a food truck, as this place only focuses on their specialty of cold ginger chicken. The original chicken plate I ordered included garlic flavored rice and a very smooth chicken broth soup. All flavors were authentic, fresh, and mouthwatering! This restaurant has no indoor seating and only three small tables outside, so space is limited and their business caters to the take out and Uber eats crowds. With such good food, this place deserves a full indoor dining set to match the amazing flavors. My only complaint is that a couple items are pricey. I wanted a coconut water, and that was going to be $9. I also wanted the traditional ginger chicken garlic sauce, but it was another $2 charge. Traditional ginger chicken sauce should be free! It's like trying to eat a hot dog with no ketchup. read more

I'll admit Hainanese Chicken isn't my favorite but Rooster & Rice does it right, well they better since it's in the name. I've had it a couple times and really like their dark meat over rice. The chicken meat is seasoned perfectly and the garnish + whatever is in that dark soy/vinegar mixture is a personal favorite of mine which brings it all together. read more
I haven't had Hainanese chicken rice in a long time & passed by on my way to the hardware store so I decided to finally check it out. After a quick scan of the menu I decided to order number one, the original. I normally don't eat rice at home (trying to avoid white carbs) but when I read it was jasmine rice and I know that Hainanese chicken rice normally features cooked in chicken broth & some fat which gives it flavor, I was convinced to try it. When I picked it up & brought it home, I couldn't resist the smell of the fragrant food. I dug in and devoured the whole dish. It was so good. Yum. No leftovers for later and/or I was really hungry. I was still pretty full around dinner time so I had the mango rice pudding. It has good mango flavor & the strawberry sauce adds a bit of sweetness & flavor variety. The consistency was a bit more dense than the usual mango pudding featured at Chinese restaurants but still enjoyable. I'll definitely be back. read more

If I could them them 0/5, I would. My friends and I got food poisoning. On Saturday evening, I ordered 3 plate of the original online. We requested extra cucumbers, extra cilantro, and 1 (free) habanero sauce. They did not provide us with any of the items we requested. My friends and I are our meal, and in a few hours, we started to feel sick. On Sunday afternoon, I called and spoke with the team. The gentleman on the phone (I didn't catch his name) informed me a refund will be issued in addition to an refund receipt will be provided to the email on file. I waited until the evening and did not receive the refund email receipt. On Monday, I called the shop. Issac picked up the phone. When I informed him about my call yesterday. He said "I wasn't the one you spoke with. Email my manager Jamie" and provided me with an email. I emailed jamie@roosterandrice.com and it bounced back. I called back and Issac said he will take down my information and text his manager right away. It's Tuesday, and I have not heard back. I tried calling the shop again and they stopped taking my calls. I do not recommend coming here at all. The service and food is absolutely terrible. read more

Heard about rooster and rice, so wanted to try their chicken rice. It was definitely sub par. The rice was not exactly flavorful when chicken rice usually comes with very flavorful rich tasting rice. The chicken was on the dry side and was lacking in flavor. Had to use copious amount of sauce they provide. Even the sauce was just sub par. Personally, I could make better chicken rice myself. read more

I got The Marina, but with veggies instead of rice. The chicken was okay, the veggies were forgettable, but the cup of broth was very flavorful! read more
I was surprised at how tender the chicken thighs was and how clean this whole meal was. The sauces on the side was nice as the actual dish lacked a bit flavor, but it was definitely very healthy and good for me. The soup on the side was also not too oily or salty... perfect for if you are not feeling too well or if you want a something that feels like a warm hug read more
