Popular takeout spot I think around 8 people picked up to go orders while we sat outside! The outdoor area is cute and was a great place to enjoy our meals! Food was good - I think next time I would get the Khao Tom Gai even though the portion was kind of small, it looked really good! Hours on yelp/google maps are also wrong! Said it was closed on Friday, luckily we were just walking by and decided to eat here so we knew it was indeed open!

Happy Hour pricing is advertised for Monday through Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm and last hour before closing, which was 7:00-8:00 pm tonight. This signage is to the right of the entryway, fully visible. My receipt has my order placed at 7:29 pm, so clearly happy hour eligible. I entered the storefront already knowing what I was going to order, the young male working the front was sitting on a stool while looking down at his phone. I approached the front counter, he looked up at me as I continued walking to the counter to place my order, but then he looked back down at his phone.. So, being ignored completely and purposely, I order through the kiosk. I assumed the kiosk would be programmed to automatically discount orders during happy hour periods, but that didn't happen with my order. I, regretfully, even tipped on this order...for the kitchen staff, I guess... There was another pair of customers who had ordered before me already there when I arrived, based on the numbering system on their order compared to my name from the kiosk, it was clear that they had been rung up by a human. I'm waiting for my order and the next customer walks in, places their order, and the cashier tells them the total, then corrects himself and applies the happy hour discount, then tells the customer the discounted total. So, pretty sure I would've received the happy hour discount if he had bothered to ring me up instead of ignoring me and having me order through the kiosk. I don't know why I wasn't worth the time for this young person to put his phone down, get off his stool, and take my order...like he did for the customers before me and after me...but this purposeful discrimination cost me 25% compared to the other customers in the store while I was there. I'm sure it's more that he's just young and lazy, and not any actual discrimination or prejudice against me compared to the customers immediately before and after me, but I am genuinely curious why he ignored me after looking at me. It's so dumb. I love this place, and this location is better than the other ones I've been to. And, of course, the food still tasted as good as it always does. I didn't even go there because of the discount, I was just glad I made it before closing after driving 8 hours home from SoCal and wanted comforting food. I mentioned that the kiosk doesn't apply the happy hour discount and he just stared at me blankly without saying a word. I gave him a few seconds to see if he'd say anything at all, but then I bailed him out and just said "just so you're aware" and walked out. I'll still go back here after this, but obviously I'll stand there until a human rings me up and remind them about the discount if it happens to be happy hour next time.

Portions getting smaller and smaller and prices going up. Last bowl had 4 ounces of chicken

Brown and flavorless ginger scallion sauce and literally all the chicken that came with my $17 Original meal.

R&R is usually my go to so I'm sad that I need to post this to warn everyone that something is seriously wrong at this location. I ordered my usual Original through Uber Eats and received about 2 ounces of chicken breast total in my meal for which I was charged $16.95 plus tax, tip and fees. I'm on a restricted medical diet so I've gone through phases in the last few months where I've ordered this exact meal everyday for weeks on end and there is usually a good sized chicken breast included. They either screwed up my order or have started ripping customers off. When I called to try to get answers the employee I spoke with was extremely rude and tried to blame the missing chicken on the delivery driver despite my telling them the package arrived stapled shut with the receipt and no sign of tampering. They refused to apologize and acknowledge that they'd either made a mistake or dramatically changed their portion size and instead kept trying to gaslight me in every way they could think of. The ginger scallion sauce is also totally wrong, instead of the delicious combo they usually offer this was just brown, grated ginger with some canola oil poured on top of it. They charged me the usual $2.95 for a tiny serving, though. DON'T patronize this location, something is seriously wrong.

The hours on Yelp is incorrect. They are open on Sundays. I ordered through Uber Eats and the food was ready in 5 minutes. On the app, you can customize to having extra cilantro and cucumbers. The food was delicious. I like how it comes with chicken broth as an appetizer. The ginger sauce was not salty. The chicken was smooth and not chewy. I'll definitely be back!

Toddler approved.

I've been ordering Rooster and Rice for years and years. Now I get to share with my 16 month old and she loves it too! Healthy & quick option that rarely disappoints. P.S. Portions are back to pre-pandemic!

Friendly welcome and kind service. Outside available seating / No indoor dining Khao Tom Gai was packed with a delicious broth. Very comfy , warming food. I wish the portion was bigger. My brother had the original and ate everything! He really liked his meal. I didn't get the Thai flavors that I was expecting. The Khao Tom Gai reminded me of the Filipino chicken congee. Nice bits of fresh garlic. Over all, I was expecting a little bit more. But it was still a satisfying meal.

Price increase by like 50% :O

Good spot with quick service. Also it's really only had take out but does have a couple small tables right in front. Chicken and rice were cooked perfectly and the sauce it was served with was super tasty. Kind of overpriced for what you get though.

The Original, chicken thigh with jasmine rice.

I love rooster and rice. I usually go to the one in stonestown, but I was in the Marina area today, so I decided to order some food for dinner. The person working there seemed tired and didn't really greet me, but I wasn't too thrown off. I ordered the original with brown rice and was charged the extra $3 for the substitute. I was handed the "to go" bag fairly quickly, since I was the only person there. When I got home, I opened the bag to eat my food, but was disappointed to find that I got jasmine rice instead of the brown rice. I normally don't eat white rice as it spikes my blood sugar. Maybe I should have checked right there and then? I paid extra and didn't get the right order, while being the only person physically there. I'll be taking my business back to the stonestown location.

I love rooster and rice. I think the entrees are wonderful and the concept is amazing. But this time I received a meal that had jasmine rice that was burnt and it was as hard as a rock. This restaurant is known for its rice, and therefore its rice should be perfect.

Love the packaging!
Sirikanya p.

A lot of options to choose and to add-on to your order. Their sauces are delicious. Prices(to me) are expensive especially side of thighs but I have to admit that their chicken tastes good and not dry at all. There are couple tables outside of you would like to dine in.

Second time is a charm and this continues to be one of the best Thai meals and restaurants I have…read morebeen to in the city. Is Khao Tiew worth the wait and the hype? Absolutely. To get the best optimal experience at Khao Tiew, please remember to put your name on the waitlist and to get there on time when your party is close in queue (if you're not there, you're square, no expectations since they have tons of people waiting). I came here on a Monday night with my friend and I put my name down on the waitlist around 5 pm on the yelp app (heads up you have to be one mile away to be applicable to put your name down). Since I have been here before I know the deal and expected the wait. We were seated around 6:40 pm but it was so worth it in our opinions. The shop itself has a good amount of tables with a nice retro Thai feel from its decor. The servers are very nice and friendly but also the food comes out super quick which is what I personally appreciate as well. Here are some highlights from our absolute feast that we demolished (no food was left behind or forgotten). * Nuer nam tok: The medium rare beef was chewy, had the right amount of spice, and paired well with the crunch of the herbs. The saltiness of the meat ate well with the fresh sides of lettuce and cucumbers. * Crispy shrooms with ground pork: The crispy mushrooms were my favorite last time and the version with ground pork was exceptional. The mushrooms had a nice light batter and the sauce coated your mouth with an umami punch. * Drunken noodles: I love the amount of shrimp and calamari they gave! The noodles itself were coated in a semi sweet sauce that had a delicious soy flavor. * Duck curry: WOW the most tender duck dish I ever had, no notes! * Kaya jam with coconut ice cream: Creamy, fluffy, and a great way to end a meal. This dish is so hard to explain in words, you have to get it. Overall, amazing spot, amazing find, would wait 2 hours again for a third time :)

Hed Tod: Fried oyster mushroom. Nicely fried and not oily. Good portion. Khao Pad Mun Nuer with soy cured egg yolk: beef short rib tallow fried rice with boneless beef short rib. The beef was chewey and not as tender as should've been. Cooked well though to medium rare. Kai Toon Lava, Seafood and ground pork steamed egg hot pot. This was a light broth but not much broth. There is a lot of egg that soaks up the broth. A lot of calamari and good amount of shrimp. Gaeng Kamin Ped, duck breast tumeric curry. This was really good. Curry was creamy and thick. The duck was cooked well. Pad Maa - kaeue- stir fried Chinese eggplant. The sauce with this was really good and went well with the tender eggplants. Decent sized restaurant inside with a lot of tables. The service was friendly and nice. Street parking

Both are rum-based and had a really nice kick, especially the Soi Ari with the pandan in the aftertaste (which we found super refreshing). Food we ordered were the Nam Tok Beans, the Pad Khee Mao, and the rabbit curry. Both of us love spice so the Nam Tok Beans blew us away! Did not expect that kind of packed flavor at all but it makes a seemingly ordinary bean dish so much more exciting. The noodles were cooked perfectly and made a great in between to the rabbit curry. Which speaking of, oh my god??? SUPER tender and fall off-the-bone. Rabbit can be a hard dish to put on for people who have never tried it, but I really appreciate that it's not as bone-y as other rabbit dishes I've had in the past. It really was like chicken but softer. Wow wow wow. Huge shoutout to our bartender for giving us extra birthday shots on the house. Never had Amaro before tonight but it was delicious. Did not get his name unfortunately but he's fantastic! The reason I give 4 stars despite the great experience was because I noticed less urgency from the host and the servers in terms of getting stuff out. Doesn't help that the place is smaller and more expensive for a Michelin star establishment. Sitting by the bar made a huge difference for us since we had a great experience with our bartender, but I have a feeling that those at regular tables that night might've lost patience with the wait times for certain dishes. TLDR: if you love spicy Thai food, have the money to spend, and aren't in a rush, this place is worth checking out.

The restaurant closes at 9:30pm, and they were kind enough to let us stay until then! I also enjoyed the ambiance - the interior was quite beautiful, and had many floral decorations, which I enjoyed. For food, I got the hot stone pot, which comes with minced pork and prawns. The dish was not only delicious but also was a large portion size. The rice was crispy on the bottom, and it was nice that the server mixed the dish for me on the table. I would definitely come back to try other dishes! One of my friends got the Pad Kee Mow, and she also very much enjoyed her dish, agreeing that it was delicious and that the noodles were perfectly chewy! I got the French 75 as a drink, and it was very good as well! Overall, I would definitely come back, especially to try the brunch, which I've heard many good things about! Truly a 10/10 experience!

I would describe the ambiance as "modern cherry blossom" with it's tall ceilings and pop music to boot. I had the popcorn chicken appetizer - very crispy and tasty with the five spice outer coating. It would have been nice to have had a few more vegetables thrown in, especially the broccoli as I counted just a couple of pieces. I did like the tofu although I felt there could have been more and a bit more tender. They could totally redo the front patio dining area as I think it would draw more customers in. If it had not been for my friend recommending this spot, I would have walked by. Overall the customer service was good and I would come back to try other dishes - I'd say the popcorn chicken was my favorite.

Spiced well and very filling. We didn't expect the pork to be cut so large and mixed into the rice, but it was very tender and easy to still eat. We would've expected the pork to be sliced maybe in half or fourths to make the dish feel like a "pork fried rice" than a fried rice + pork mix, but it still worked well and if you love pork, this will definitely be your fix! 5/5 - Pad Thai - We thought the restaurant nailed this classic noodle dish. Filling portions and did not overcook their noodles. You can taste each component of the dish, which speaks to everything not being under or overcooked. We ordered nuts on the side but you would be quite satisfied ordering this if you like pad thai! 4.5/5 - Pad Gra Prow - Appropriate veggie to beef proportion and very flavorful.
