What came first the chicken or the pickle ?
Juan V.

The tourist trap in San Francisco has some interesting places to grab something to eat. There are few chainstores around but one has been serving chicken for over half a century . They have been serving chicken longer than Popeyes and El Pollo Loco. Pollo Campero is a Central American chicken chainstore with over 100 USA locations and with locations in Latin America and Europe. I normally go to the location on Mission street between 23rd and 24th street. This Pollo Campero location is on Jefferson street in Fishermans Wharf . Every time I tried coming here the seating is always taken up fast. This time I decided to grab a table . I had to try their fried chicken sandwich. Each bite was so smooth without any turbulence because the balance of batter and chicken was just right . It was fresh and moist. I had the chicken breast of their fried chicken and it was juicy and soft . I never had such a good batch of chicken at the Pollo Campero in comparison to Mission street location. I believe the chicken here is always fresh because there are always coming in and out of here and they have to cook a new batch of it every time. I also had the side of fresh yuca fries and a dipping sauce which was pretty spicy. The Mac and cheese were tasty and not too cheesy. Other sides you can order are the Campero beans and the Campero rice. Take it from one tourist who said they enjoyed their Polo Camp ( Pollo Campero) fried chicken. It's pronounced" pollo" not polo this fried chicken that is fried and a side rice and beans they" boil" grab fresh fried chicken batch coming from the hot "oil " and you won't find a human like mascots here like Colonel Saunders , Popeye or Olive "Oyl" Pollo Campero has gone worldwide expanded to Europe since they expanded from the Central American "soil"positive spotlight for a Latin American business region who have gone through lots of civil wars and" turmoil "and living a life of "toil" they have a customer base for decades that enjoy their fried chicken and who are "loyal"

All I got was the empanadas and they were good. Service was fast and friendly. Inside the place was packed so obviously they have good chicken. Ill be back again to try the actual chicken.

Three piece chicken meals

Last time I at at a Pollo Campero was in Guatemala, so when we were walking around the Wharf and saw it, we decided to grab dinner here. We ordered the three piece chicken meal with yucca frita and plantains. The chicken was freshly made, juicy, and very yummy. Both the yucca frita and plantains were also hot and great, you can tell nothing was out of a box. We also had the horchata which was the best of the drinks they had. Great place for lunch and not paying tourist prices at the wharf!

I'm a local, but I still love coming down to this neighborhood for the beautiful waterfront and boisterous sea lions. Lots of tourist traps that serve mediocre food at high prices, so this place is a welcome addition since you can get a lot of tasty food for a reasonable amount of money. Plus really fun popular vibe here. 8-Piece Fried Chicken (Mixed): When I ordered the 8-piece, the cashier asked if only dark meat was fine. I strongly protested and asked for the mixed. Every piece had a nicely spiced breading that was quite crunchy. All the chicken was tender. The wings and drumsticks are fun quick eats, but that chicken breast was so nice and hearty. Campero Beans: Such an amazing side, way better than anything at KFC. Tastes homemade. Loved using the tortillas on this alone, between chicken bites. Yuca Fries: Way heartier than potato fries. Crunchy exterior and pasty interior. The creamy spicy sauce was a great pairing. Mango Drink: Very sweet. Like one of those fruit "drinks" from the cheap section of the grocery store that's mostly high fructose corn syrup and a little bit of actual fruit juice. I mean, it's more interesting than big brand soda, but I was hoping for something that was fruitier.

The empanada I tried was average..the money looks fun..for groups or family..want to try pollo campero sometime..this one was at the wharf..new maybe..

Good food, excellent service from everybody in this place. Decorations are also very nice. It is expensive like anything else in sf but it is a good portion and chicken is better than kfc or Popeyes

Some may say what can you expect from a franchised small business. But a business is a business…read moreregardless of what type. I write today not because I expect five star customer service or food at Subway, but because I expect common behavior such as explaining a menu at a minimum at any food business. I didn't think it was out of the ordinary that with three staff (all assuming they were family members who run and operate the business) were there and no other customers, it took them at least five minutes to just acknowledge me. So, I just watched and listened as they continued chatting away with each other and standing at the register. When finally, a gentleman came to ask my order. I ordered and he was having a phone conversation so kept repeating the same question. That's all ok and I can get over it. However, it was when the second customer came in. He asked if I ordered and I said yes. Of course, they all took their leisurely time to ask his order. He orders the new item of the nachos on the menu. As he was trying to request toppings, one of the older ladies at the register appears so quick, I didn't realize her legs can move that fast - and starts yelling, "You can't add toppings, that's it! Just cheese and whatever it comes with!" So, the customer asks "I can't pay extra for it?" She yells again, "No! That's it! Doritos, cheese, and whatever it comes with!" And SHE asks him "Have you had this before?" And as the customer tries to ask something else, he says "No, I haven't had this before, it's my first time and last time I'll ever have it." Obviously, he was unhappy with her tone that he said this, but never once did he raise his voice or get upset. He was so calm. But, instead of just explaining how this new item "works," this lady just continues to repeat the above and by that time, I'm just checking out and was confused and very displeased by how she was treating him from the body language, voice tone and volume. And one can hypothesize why. Was it his skin color? The way he was dressed? Why would it even matter? But I can't help to think it might matter more than we would want it to. To add further context, he was just a worker nearby getting off work getting food. If it's a new item on a menu, it doesn't cost the business owner to just explain it without yelling. If it had been explained, I wonder if maybe he would've ordered another item and maybe it wouldn't have been his "first and last time." This was a witness-account experience that directly impacted my personal experience at this business. It doesn't matter how big of a franchise or small of a hole in the wall business, a paying and respectful customer should not be obligated to know new menu items without ever seeing or having tried it and be yelled at for asking questions about it. Pretty simple and completely unnecessary how it had to be played out. **I understand and can imagine all the types of rude and horrible customers and non-customers a business can get, not to mention, the difficulties of owning a business. However, that sentiment goes both ways- even the customers can be having their own challenges , everybody is going through something and when they walk into a Subway, it means they want something fast and fairly affordable to just fill their stomach. If someone doesn't know an item on the menu, just explain it. Don't yell and treat them like s***.

They're tender, hot, and I appreciate the spice level. It's spicy enough to keep every bite interesting. I usually get them with the purple rice. There's a kiosk that I use to order, but the folks behind the counter are quick to help too. They provide utensils and napkins at the end of the counter. Matko is a great fast-food Korean lunch spot. The carnitas were shredded with a little fat, but not spicy. I liked that the flavors were simple and mild. This was my second visit to this Chipotle location, and unfortunately the experience was again…read moredisappointing. I understand that they stay busy with both dine-in and takeout orders, and I'm willing to give grace where it's due--but the overall operation here feels chaotic and poorly managed. Whoever is running this location clearly needs support and a better system in place. The cleanliness was the biggest issue. The floors were dirty, tables were messy, and trash was overflowing throughout the dining area. In a restaurant this busy, tables and trash should be checked and maintained every 30 minutes to an hour like clockwork. Paying customers should not have to wipe down their own tables or hunt for a clean place to sit. Basic supplies were also missing. There was no ice in the machine, no forks or spoons stocked, and lids for drinks were nearly gone. The counter area was dirty as well. These are fundamental details that should be monitored continuously, especially during peak hours. A simple restocking and cleaning system would make a huge difference. What made this more frustrating was seeing several employees standing around behind the counter, appearing overwhelmed and unsure of what to do--like deer in the headlights. Time wasn't being used efficiently, and no one seemed assigned to maintaining the dining area or addressing obvious issues. With clearer roles and leadership, this could be avoided. With the increased cost of eating at Chipotle these days, you'd expect that higher prices would come with a cleaner, more organized environment. Right now, that's not the case at this location. The food itself is fine, but the lack of cleanliness and organization makes it hard to enjoy the experience or want to return anytime soon.

Orders for pickup are never ever ready on time. And this location is unfortunately always dirty.read more
