    Ricotta and nutmeg fritters
    Kaitlyn L.

Snagged a resy on OpenTable for 5:30 and the line was already hopping out the door! Very unique and progressive mix of flavors. We tried the caviar potato cloud, which was creamy, crunchy, and a hint of saltiness from the caviar lurking underneath. It was interesting but probably wouldn't order it again. The pacific cod was delicious and beautiful to look at. We enjoyed the contrast of the pickled red onions to the creamy corn sauce and tender fish. I loved the texture of the tortillas with the goat chorizo and mole. They were perfectly chewy. All together, the dish had a lot of flavors going on from tart green tomatoes to the spicy mole and it was not my favorite. To finish, the "world peace" peanut milk made with whole cream was quite tasty and worth a shot. We also tried the ricotta and nutmeg fritters with coffee ice cream and crème fraiche. The fritters were small, about the size of a grape, and slightly lemony. They were just okay.

I recently dined at The Progress and came in with high expectations given all the buzz around its modern American menu. Overall, the experience was solid, but nothing really wowed me. The dishes were well-executed and thoughtfully composed, but I didn't find anything particularly memorable or exciting. I tried the duck, which I know is one of their more talked-about dishes, but it didn't quite land for me. Compared to what I've had in China, it felt like a weaker iteration of Beijing duck--lacking the depth, crispness, and overall impact I was hoping for. Service was fine--professional but not especially warm or memorable. In the end, it's a good restaurant with competent cooking, but given the reputation, I was expecting more of a standout experience for the price point.

This was a very nice dining experience. We had a gift certificate and visited on a Tuesday right when they opened at 5:30pm. There was good table availability when we booked our reservation about one month before. We were seated quickly after they opened. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The service was very good. Our server explained the menu in detail and made recommendations. As they served the dishes, they explained each one. One plate change was done during the meal. We ordered six dishes between the two of us and were a little hungry afterwards. If we return, we'll probably order six dishes again, but shift the balance to have more meat dishes and less of the Western Additions. Our first dish was the Toma Cheese Stuffed Masa. It was good, but we probably won't order it next time. This was followed by the Hokkaido Scallop Crudo. Although it's a small dish, it has good flavor. They add citrus chunks to add some acidity, which works well with the scallops. Next, we had the Sesame Sichuan Chile Crispy Hodo Tofu. This was quite good. This was followed by the Grilled Pernod Artichokes, which was another pretty small dish. Then they brought out the the Local Dungeness Crab Sorpresine and the Pacific Black Cod Pozole. These two dishes were probably our favorites for the evening. We were celebrating a special event. They brought out a complimentary dessert for us which was really nice. It was beignets with ice cream and strawberries. We would recommend this restaurant for people celebrating a special occasion.

Amazing experience during Mother's Day weekend, and the staff was incredible in service, accommodation. Our entire family had an amazing time experiencing one-of-a-kind food pairings and preparations. We were quite blown away. We got a reservation and was seated on the upper level, the lighting and location was cozy, not too loud, and felt very intentional.

We were visiting SF for the weekend and managed to snag a last minute resy here! So happy we ended up going. It's a more casual Michelin star and vibes were great. Tables were super close to each other though, a little too close... Regardless - food is AWESOME! Think we had an off day with our waiter. He accidentally gave us leftovers from the table next to us, forgot what we just discussed, and told me the drink i ordered is similar to an old fashioned when it really wasn't - it was super sweet. He also did not mention the off menu items to us. The waitress who was helping tables next to us seemed better. We also had to ask him for water multiple times. Now onto the food: We shared the artichoke toast and the mashed potato cloud. For the main, we got the half duck of course! Wow!!! Everything was amazing but the duck was the star of the show. It was cooked so perfectly medium rare. The garlic fried rice with cilantro was refreshing! The crispiness of the duck leg and wing - YUM. Go back just for the duck!

What deliciousness we had on a chilly San Francisco evening! We grabbed a seat at the bar and the bartenders were all so friendly and their service was top notch. I honestly don't even remember what we got but the duck was delicious. Their fried rice is soooo good! And their hot dog is off menu and limited so make sure to order it early if you want to secure one.

Drinks here were delish!! Absolutely had a great time chatting and drinking here. Also ordered the pig head salad for a quick bite and it was SO GOOD!! Service was fine and ambiance was vibey. Definitely wanna try dining here next time for their actual food!

After such a great time at sister restaurant Anchovy Bar, I was genuinely hyped for dinner here. Unfortunately, we walked out more annoyed than impressed and that had everything to do with service. Our waitress had this subtle but very real snooty energy. Nothing outright rude, just that faint air of superiority that makes you feel like you're inconveniencing someone by sitting at their table. It completely threw off the vibe. Hospitality is supposed to feel warm and effortless. This felt tense. At this price point, attitude shouldn't be part of the tasting menu. Now the food and drinks? Much stronger showing. We discovered there's a secret menu item: the hot dog. Absolute win. Soft, fluffy bun, rich, and indulgent. That was my favorite bite of the night. Caviar Potato Cloud - It's like the most elevated potato chip you've ever had: light, crispy, salty perfection. The caviar sits at the bottom soaking up all that potato flavor, so when you hit it, it's briny, rich, and fully loaded. Unique and delicious. The Sesame Sichuan Chile Crisp Hodo Tofu was a great opener. Every bite had texture: soft, crunchy, spicy, savory and it all worked. Woke up the palate immediately. Chanterelle mushroom and yuba stir fry was my second favorite dish. Dungeness crab sorpresine had great flavor but the pasta was too al dente. Another minute of cooking would've made it perfect. The jerk pork chop was bold and layered, sweet and tangy from the passion fruit, and the cilantro beans were a hit. That said, it's rich. One bite was enough for me. Very glad we were a party of 3 so we could share instead of committing to the whole thing solo. Overall the food was good with a few things that we wish were different but really wasn't a fan of the service this visit. Hope next time would be better

My 1st visit here was for a fundraiser. Later that year, my friend hosted a dinner for three here that I totally forgot about. My Yelp review reminded me of this. The restaurant has changed over the years to the point that nothing on the menu was familiar. Our party of seven was seated in the rear upstairs dining room around 7 pm. Our host is a regular and very familiar with their food so we entrusted him to craft our meal served family style. I started with the pineapple -cilantro soda (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=aAzf7qp48Bc5B2iP_N3fBQ) from the non-alcoholic beverage section; I enjoyed this, especially the one tall elongated ice cube that kept my beverage cold until I finished it. The meal was ordered by our gracious host served family style for our table of seven. Here's what we had by menu sections: Vegetable, mostly a. Hearts of palm & crispy Hodo tofu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=b5yPlcZNzVbYU5OPwbKLfw) - green peppercorn-avocado, kiwi, & rou ram. b. Radicchio & persimmons (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=PX_l6Ud4-p3Bz8VR9soyAA) - San Joacquin gold cheese & long pepper pecans. c. Garlic Misozuke-grilled bok choy (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=P_Rz4iNEXq72npAqgFg25g) - purple sweet potato & black trumpet mushrooms. d, Chanterelle mushroom sopresine, supplement perigord truffle (7 grams) (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=XveXQs8FVRfGm-LcqGfMyg) -celery root, escarole & red walnut. A hearty dish with the pasta holding the flavors from the various ingredients with the truffles being the star. West Additions (their specials) e. Caviar potato cloud (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=dwFzOq1mRqovOJF4TqDwmQ) - Think a foam like version of mashed potatoes with a caviar center. f. Joey Baker seed feast bread - Sorry as I forgot to take a photo. Seafood g. Hokkaido scallop crudo (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=InkSF1nPzkHw7pdWV5uUSQ) - winter luxury pumpkin, yuzu, & nori. h. Brown butter seaweed noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Tk0IwVqg2TgiVE4eRXDkhg) - oyster mushrooms, tomato-kale dashi, & bonito. This was the most surprising and intriguing dish, from the noodle type to the mix of ingredients and aspects of them. Even the interesting noodle color (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=zsL64-lWbGP9RtyY71HtwA) made me wonder as I enjoyed each bite. i. Fried 'whole' McFarland spring trout (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=WCPw9pgs7Yj0ymkZeExpoQ) - beech mushrooms, pickled ginger & toasted black rice. I was taken aback by the color at first and our host assured us that the fish was boneless so we could eat without having to worry about that. Meat j. BBQ Liberty Farms half duck (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=ZEGPTo4Qsiw4CK4BKSumGg) - peanut fried rice (ordered extra crispy), & smoked chile vinegar. The star of this meal. The leg was cooked confit style, making it deeply flavored, reminding me of jerky pieces. Desserts k. Floating Island (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=xmjPORBq5QBKTJ3YuEBkdg) - grapefruit sorbet, vanilla anglaise, white negroni gelatina. l. Persimmon carrot cake (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Om9jfs1274DqjjE7rDtZ0w) - rosemary ice cream, boozy prunes, coffee sauce & almonds. m. 'World Peace' peanut milk (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=F-Yr4YlJrTv5ISu278dGaA) - muscovado sugar. Service was on point as Michael (like that name) was our server throughout the evening, friendly and helpful. It was nice that the chef owner stopped in and caught up with our gracious hosts as I mentioned his history at his previous restaurant. This restaurant has evolved in a good way and it is now on my list for places to bring friends for celebrations. *** Duck and noodles will be ordered on my next visit if they're on the menu.

We celebrated pre-Valentine's Day at The Progress. It was a modern space, with lots of candles and greenery. The menu is a bit all over the place in terms of cuisine, but it makes for a fun experience. They encourage sharing, however the portions do run on the smaller side. We started with the shoyu-marinated quail eggs and the caviar potato cloud. For mains, the local dungeness crab sorpresine ("little surprises" in Italian) pasta and the pacific black cod mole verde brought fresh flavors. Everything was plated beautifully. Service was warm and attentive. A fun spot for a boujee date night if you're in the mood for creative unique plates.

Had a solid dinner at The Progress! Our reservation was at 5:30pm on a Thursday and there was a line of folks waiting to enter, but we were seated promptly. We've tried State Bird Provisions next door, but can confidently say The Progress is better! Inside is a nice yet casual feel. Service was good the entire night, but not enough to feel Michelin star quality. Here's what we ordered: - Caviar potato cloud - my husband and I each got one, and it was delicious! Fluffy potato and a generous amount of caviar inside. - Radicchio & leek salad - a nice, well balanced salad with varying textures. I wish there was a bit more dressing though. - (secret menu item) hot dog - juicy hot dog on crispy milk bread! - Local Dungeness crab sorpresine - the sorpresine was a great vehicle for the sauce!delicious crab and balance with the mushrooms and burdock. A lighter pasta dish that you can devour! - bbq liberty duck - the highlight of the night. Tender duck and so flavorful. Crispy skin on the drum and wing. Paired perfectly with the rice! It is quite savory though. Desserts: caramelized floating island was refreshing! Gotta try the peanut milk - like Reese's in drink form. We bought a small jug to go! Overall, a good dining experience - to be one Michelin star, I can't fully say that I would've been able to distinguish that - to me, nothing was crazy mind blowing.

The Progress was absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing from start to finish, and the service was truly impeccable. The restaurant itself is really cute - earthy, cozy, and warm without feeling stuffy. We ordered a lot from the menu and I wasn't disappointed by a single dish. Everything was executed beautifully. The hots are an absolute must, and the crudo was outstanding - but honestly, every plate we had was excellent. The service was attentive and thoughtful, the restaurant was spotless, and the overall experience was just seamless. I can't wait to go back and would highly recommend it.

Loved the place and the service Food was high quality and surprisingly good amounts for SF. The cloud was our favorite and dessert was the star. The place can get a bit loud but good vibes overall.

Dessert: persimmon carrot cake with rosemary, ice cream, and toffee drizzle with boozy prunes.

Is this place good for toddlers/kids and have high chairs? I have a 1.5 year old.

It is a nice dining experience and a special place. I would not recommend bringing a toddler. I am sure the restaurant would be fine with it but don't think it is the right environment. I don't know if they have high chairs.

What are the vegan options for groups with vegan friends? Anything substantial or sad side dishes?

    Are walk ins available?

bar seating is first come first serve, and some of them are also reserved. regular seating I believe is reservation only...and even those reservations are booked out months ago for weekend..

Is there a set menu or i can choose the dishes myself?

You choose the dishes from the menu. The waiter will advise you as to how many dishes to order. Approximately 3 per person. But if you order more entree dishes, they will be bigger so order less dishes

    Good number of vegetarian options?

Yes I ate all vegetarian dishes and they were very accommodating. It was delicious.

    Is infant allow?

    Not likely

The birthday girl has severe nut and coconut allergies & we were first told the dessert had no allergens (it did in fact have coconut, thankfully she did not eat it). No hard feelings but just an opportunity to improve!

Once most of our party was here, we got seated at an outside seating area that was marked as reserved. The atmosphere and decor struck a great balance between welcoming and elegant. The space had earthy tones, flattering lighting, and various layouts of seating layouts. The bar itself was beautifully displayed. We ordered various drinks and some small bites. Yuka fries, ceviche clasico, carne asana tacos, al pastor tacos. The chips were solidly crisp, crunchy, and paired very well with the ceviche. The carne asana tacos with the salsa macha was juicy and perfectly done, and my favorite small bite of the night.. The Yuka fries were perfectly salted and the aioli dip was exactly what you'd want out of fries. My friends recommended the Kiwi and I found it refreshing, almost like a drink you'd have at a spa or so. I also tried the Oaxacan, which was styled like an old fashioned. I thought it was fair, but if I were to pick a favorite out of the two, the Kiwi would be my choice. Even with a busy crowd, the service was attentive and checked on us every so often. Overall, Cavana was a memorable rooftop experience that I enjoyed. I'll definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a rooftop bar with great small bites!

They do go heavy on the ice with some of the drinks but they all came out in different glasses, different sizes, and different flavors. It was fun tasting them all. My favorite was the watermelon and guava. I would definitely come back for the drinks. I didn't enjoy the food, and here's where it went wrong. We first got our chips and salsa. The chips are seasoned like Doritos so there's a nice flavor but the seasoning is in consistent. Some pieces were SO salty and some had no seasoning. The salsa is pretty rich as well. When our ceviche came, I ate a bite without the seafood and it tasted fishy. When I tried the actual seafood part, I knew it went bad because it had such a strong odor. We had to send it back but saw them serving it to other people. I eat a lot of seafood and I don't mind a slight fishy taste but this was definitely a food poisoning situation. After that it took a very very long time to get our last dish. Unfortunately when it finally came out, it was a disappointment. The octopus texture tasted like it had freezer burn, then was over cooked, sat too long after it was cooked because they had to make the fries. The fries were fresh but the octopus was dry, cold, hard, and chewy. I've had lots of pulpo before and this was a let down. It was a bummer that we didn't get to eat much and decided to walk somewhere else to finish dinner.

I went in before the game the place was somewhat Vibing they had a balcony, fireplace, different seating areas and a bar, and they serve food. It wasn't that busy so the bartender came right over. I think his name was Dominic and he got me an IPA. The first time I went I also tried the deviled eggs (3) and they were cool. I have to say my buddies tried the chips and salsa so it came with some guac salsa and a bowl of chips. It was pretty good too. a , but after the game we came back in the place was still a vibe. It was cool and we are went back a few days later for another game with another buddy and sure enough it was cool this time I had a margarita and the expert Cadillac and he floated something like some triple sec in it and when we inquired about the Grand Marnier with him, he got a little attitude although the female bartender said that when she made Cadillac margaritas, she used grandma Marnie, so that was interesting but other than that, I would recommend a spot.

My martini ($13) was really good, I especially loved the olives they use here. I like the lounge style seating, there were couches, nooks, and chairs arranged in a very comfortable fashion. There were a decent amount of people inside for a Thursday night, mostly small groups of friends or people on dates. It's a really nice atmosphere, very relaxed and inviting to hangout in. Everyone in the bar was weirdly attractive and dressed well for San Francisco and that added to the vibes for sure too lol. Friendly bartender and good cocktail menu, they also have a kitchen for small bites. I am definitely coming back!

After a park day at the Presidio, we wanted to move the party and we decided on Bar Darling. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was jam packed. Luckily we were able to get some space in the alley way for us to order drinks from our server. We've been on a Friday around 5pm on another day, it wasn't as busy, so definitely a great place to start and maybe end the night. In a time where craft cocktails have gotten really expensive, Bar Darling offers craft cocktails (their signature cocktails) all for $14 each. If you know Peacekeeper, you know there's a lot of thought and imagination that goes into their drinks and it definitely shows here. My favorites were the Mama J (tequila based) and the Jaji (mezcal based). The aesthetic and vibes of this place is 10/10. Definitely great for a group of friends and/or date night!

I'll note that the promotional photos online give a somewhat misleading impression of the ambiance. The actual interior is considerably more modest and utilitarian than advertised. We ended up seated outdoors beneath one of those industrial heat lamps, which was blasting uncomfortably hot air until our server kindly switched it off at our request. That said, the service was efficient and attentive. Our drinks arrived promptly despite the crowd, and the staff managed the busy room well. Nothing particularly memorable about the experience, but perfectly adequate for a casual evening out. A solid four out of five stars.
