Beautiful restaurant right on the water with a spectacular view overlooking the bay. We had excellent service from start to finish and enjoyed everything we tried on the menu. The standouts for me were the Julia Child potatoes and the "best damn filet". Espresso martini was also really solid.

I was able to book a reservation on OpenTable a couple nights ago for a Saturday night dinner. The restaurant has a relaxed ambiance and a beautiful view of the bay/bridge. They wrote happy birthday on our menus and even the staff signed a card for my husband. Travis was our server and he was very attentive, had great suggestions on drinks and food. We ordered the garlic shrimp, oysters, caesar salad, porterhouse steak, Mac & cheese, and the s'mores cake! Everything was so good! (Mac & cheese just wasn't our preference, a little too cheesy) There is public parking right across the street.

Come for: amazing views, the tomahawk Know that: parking on the Embarcadero is hard especially on game days Steak under the Bay lights? Sign me up! This is an awesome spot to take any date, out of towner, or celebration. The service is fantastic and the views of the Bay are incredible. So the food: Beef tartare (4/5): comes with potato chips and I really loved the sauce this came with. My only complaint was some pieces of meat had some sinew. Sides (4.5/5): I had the carrots and the pomme puree. The carrots were really sweet and went well with the sauce and feta. Pomme puree was buttery and decadent. Would recommend both. Tomahawk (4/5): I got mine with the miso truffle butter and I highly recommend. This is a dry aged tomahawk and though I normally do not order tomahawks thinking ribeyes are the better deal, I gotta admit the dry aging on this made it worth it for me. The flavor was beefy and the truffle miso made it even better. Only issue were some pieces came a bit overcooked. But would recommend nonetheless. Overall, one of my favorite steakhouses to take guests and for special occasions. It is tough to find parking so be prepared to look or bite the bullet and find a garage. But the steak and views make it all worth it.

My work held a company party here. We had the second level reserved. It was really nice and intimate. Lots of great food selection and nice balcony view of the Bay Bridge. Good vibes. We had some charcuterie, bacon cheeseburger sliders, black truffle crispy chicken sandwiches, blackened shrimp, arancini, etc. The agave cut was my fave drink and I kept coming back for it x3. Overall, I had a great time! Will need to come back to try some of their other dishes.

Best chill b-day ever. :) Friday 7/3. I spent the day at The Embarcadero, which included Happy Hour at Epic. I had gone last year and sat inside the bar overlooking the Bay at night, which was so soothing with all the lights. This time, we sat outside in the enclosed piazza with beautiful, crisp white tablecloths, the most perfect 68° weather (no wind!), Argentina playing a World Cup match in the background, and the best company My Chef man. We ordered an EPIC Martini (perfection!), The Agave Cut--a twist on a margarita that was even better--along with the Bucket Chicken, a Wagyu cheeseburger and fries, and Pacific oysters. The chicken? I'd order it all day long - crunchy, herby, juicy. Looooved it and highly recommend it. The oysters were also a memorable experience for me - melt in your mouth wonderful texture. As someone who's tried several times to like oysters, my chef told me I'd been eating them wrong this whole time. "Don't just swallow them--chew a bit. Taste them." Ahhh... okay, that's how you do it. The waitstaff were fantastic--attentive, friendly, and professional, always making sure we had everything we needed. I absolutely loved the experience and can't wait to go back on another weekday off.

    Bucket of chicken happy hour

My first time here, party of two, we were sat on the semi outdoor patio with the fabulous view of the bay and bridge. It was a bit chilly and windy but the fireplace was going and that helped warm it up. We ordered the happy hour bucket of fried chicken and the happy hour cheeseburger meal. The chicken was absolutely divine and the chili sauce just added extra burst of flavor. The cheeseburger meal was just okay it reminded me of a glorified Happy meal. I would say that our server made the experience very positive and The view made the experience very enjoyable. I would like to come back and enjoy other things off of the menu along with the beautiful view.

I love coming here with friends who are from out of town. Very thankful the restaurant seated us outdoors so we could watch the sun set and enjoy the view of the Bay Bridge! Even though it was a windy day, the restaurant provided us with blankets and heat lamps to keep us all comfortable. STEAK FRITES (4/5) - the most bang for your buck. I enjoyed the tarragon bearnaise sauce, but I much preferred having it with the chimichurri sauce. I ordered my flat iron steak medium rare. The edges were quite tough. GARLIC SHRIMP (4/5) - very enjoyable and perfect for sharing. BREAD & BUTTER (3/5) - to be honest I thought it was complementary. The edges were hard and dry. The butter was good but to be honest I don't think I could tell the difference between bad or good butter. BANANA BREAD PUDDING (4/5) - If you have a sweet tooth this is the dessert for you. The brûlée bananas had a unique texture of crunchy and soft. The banana bread was rich and paired well with the vanilla ice cream. I expected more ice cream tbh. Not a wine person so it's hard to give it a review but the wine was fine. Felt more acidic than wines I'm used to. Service was on the slower end, but it feels like they were understaffed. It was a busy night and there seemed like only two servers for the entire patio section of the dining area.

Chimichurri steak skewers and mini Dungeness Crab cakes off the happy hour menu 6.11.26
    Jeff H.

I don't think I've ever experienced a restaurant staffed with employees who way overshoot their station more egregiously. Happy Hour is upstairs in the bar, which they had roped off from downstairs and you had to be escorted up (like you're getting bottle service in Vegas or something). Hostess was extremely rude and in the most condescending tone possible told me "we're at capacity, you'll have to wait." I understand she had to convey a message, but it's not WHAT she said, it was HOW she said it. So I walked over to sit on the bench (I was the only one waiting) and then get the nod to migrate to Mecca apparently. Not five minutes after I parked on the bench a couple came downstairs and I asked the husband if they were leaving or just using the restroom. He said we're done and leaving. A few minutes went by then the runner brought me upstairs. I guess at Epic Steak "at capacity" means eight empty tables inside and six outside (it was almost 80 degrees when I came in, would've happily been seated outside; nope not even offered a seat there and yes the patio was open and not reserved, I asked). Service was beyond slow and I found out the entire happy hour menu is pre-batched that day. Meaning, no substitutions (which is common), but also no eliminations. Ummm, what? A couple of examples of what they consider eliminations: The mini crab cakes come sitting on top of a sauce which I personally don't like so I asked if they could just leave it off because I wasn't going to eat it. Nope. That's an elimination to them. So I asked my server, (claimed he couldn't locate the manager to address my question), "So let me make sure I understand this correctly, I told you i wasn't going to eat it as I was ordering it and please just simply to leave it off the plate, not to replace it with anything else. You're telling me, knowing full well that's it's just going to go to waste, that you're still going to waste the time to make it (when you're allegedly at capacity")? Yup, they sure did. Another example if you order the happy hour cheeseburger they don't allow you to be served without cheese. I asked well what if the person is lactose intolerant or just flat out allergic? His response, "Well then, they'll have to order off the big.boy menu and we'll customize it how they like." Oh gee thanks for that, I'd think after the cost of the dinner burger itself, tax, your 7% service charge (which doesn't all go to the staff but does help line the owner's pockets) and gratuity totaling roughly $45 it wouldn't exactly be asking for the moon to have the burger the way I want. Hey Epic, you've got a great location and the chimichurri skewers were very good, but at the next staff meeting everyone needs to drink some settle down juice. You guys aren't Smyth, so set your egos aside and focus on your customers. I'm sure the business is making plenty of money, but success should breed additional success not foster irrational confidence.

Came here with friends to try out this steakhouse and their happy hour! The ambiance was very nice - the happy hour requires outdoor sitting, and we had a clear view of the bay bridge and the surrounding water! The service was great as well! The server came periodically to check in on us, and provided us food recommendations. The food was also very delicious! The portion sizes were excellent for the price - the fried chicken was flavorful and a whole bucket! We also got the poke tacos and a variety of other foods to try. The drinks were also very good and we got multiple rounds of drinks, such as the spritz, to try out different ones. Overall, I would definitely come back again for the happy hour!

Ribeye steak USDA and sautéed chef mix mushrooms
    Daniel S.

We ordered the Ribeye steak USDA medium well and sautéed chef mix mushrooms. The steak was some of the best I ever tasted. The mushrooms were a nice addition and had a yummy creamy sauce. The waiter gave us great drink recommendations with the Candace and niantic cocktails. As well as skylark and Catalina sounds white wines. The place is a little fancier than I thought it would be so I felt slightly underdressed but you can dress however you like.

Came to Epic Steak to celebrate my brother graduating from SFSU and had a great time! If you're looking for a place to celebrate with great views, service and food, this is a great option! We had 8:45 reservations, but the ceremony ended earlier than we anticipated and we messaged them asking if we could move up our reservation and they did it with no problem! The only caveat was we had to be seated outdoors, but we didn't mind because we had a great view of the bridge, and the heat lamps kept us pretty warm for the whole night. From start to finish, the service was excellent! Our server, Francisco I believe was his name, was great and made sure to highlight my brothers graduation! The menu's had a congratulations print on it, and they gave him a note signed by the staff congratulating him on his graduation, which was such an awesome touch! He checked on us throughout our whole dinner and made sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying everything. He was attentive to the smallest details, like re-folding our napkins after getting up to use the restroom. He definitely made the already great experience here fantastic! After a long ceremony, we came hungry! We ordered a bunch of apps, but the standout was the beef tartare. It had great flavor and paired wonderfully with the potato chips. I went with the steak frites, and it was great! I asked for my steak medium, and it was cooked great. I enjoyed my fries, but felt they could've been cooked a but longer but that might just be my preference. They had a steak and chimichurri sauce with the steak, and the chimichurri was excellent! They also had black, pink and regular sea salt, and the black salt was amazing. It really elevated the steak, and paired with the chimichurri sauce was chefs kiss. We had to leave room for dessert, and we got almost one of each. The banana bread pudding was great! It wasn't too sweet, and had a great caramelized sauce. The bruleed banana was great addition and paired nicely with the ice cream. They gave my brother complimentary dessert of his choice, and also brought out a dried strawberry kiwi fruit brick thing that we didn't order, but appreciated trying! If you are celebrating a special occasion, I definitely recommend going to Epic Steak!

We had dinner at EPIC Steak recently and it was a pretty good experience. It was my first time dining here after several years. The restaurant is conveniently located by the waterfront (about a 10 minute walk from the ferry building). We opted to start off with bread & butter and then garlic shrimp. Both items were made well and tasty. For entrees, we ordered a New York steak, roasted Halibut, and steak frites along with a side of sautéed mushrooms. The chimichurri sauce paired well with the steak and had a nice texture. I will say the steak frites weren't as tasty as I thought, but the fries were great and crispy. But the steak itself was alright. The NY steak was much better and had a slight crust & nice flavor. The side of sautéed mushrooms were quite flavorful and had a nice mix of different mushrooms. Customer service was wonderful, with staff being friendly and attentive during our meal. Brandt was our server and he was excellent, and made the dining experience at Epic worthwhile. We were celebrating a birthday and received a dessert (we got the banana bread pudding) and ordered a seasonal sorbet as well. The banana bread pudding was comforting and not overly sweet and paired well with vanilla ice cream. The sorbet was a passion fruit/mango/guava flavor and quite refreshing, although a bit too sour. The restaurant's atmosphere was lively and it was nice to see others dining in and enjoying a meal. The views are pretty great too, so sitting by a window or outside are both great options. I will say the meal was more of a splurge, as it was just over $300 after tax and tip. They also have happy hour specials which seem pretty solid. Prime rib is available Sundays and Mondays. We were happy with our meal & experience.

Spent our anniversary here and we were well taken care of. Thank you so much, Brant. You're the best.

EPIC Steak Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - EPIC Steak

I'm attending a wedding there, what Hotel is close?

Grand Hyatt is about 3 blocks away just off the Embarcadero. Definitely walking distance

    Is there valet parking?

No they no longer have valet service. But street parking is pretty easy

Do you have to make a reservation?

Highly recommended, you can always check in the bar!

July 2022, is valet parking back?

it wasn't when i went a few weeks ago.

    Bar/counter seating for solo diner?

Is outdoor seating available for the unvaccinated?

They do have out door seating. May be available upon request if you are making a reservation. I am not sure how strict they are about asking for proof of vac. The last time I was there a few months ago, they did not ask me for mine. Good luck!

Do they have prime rib on their dinner menu?

Do we need to be vaccinated to eat here?

I would have to assume YES, since it's located in San Francisco and the vaccination requirement for SF establishments started on 8/20/2021.

Are dogs still allowed if you have patio seating?

I sat outdoors with my small dog/ESA tonight, but there was also another dog at the table next to ours who didn't appear to be a service dog or ESA.

Is there a minimum for Dining? I've read their neighbor restaurant is minimum $75 each 🤨

There is no minimum though the local city ordinance requires all guests to have a meal and not just alcohol when seated. Please make a reservation as we run out of tables everyday.

    What is their corkage fee?

    $25 per bottle.

    Are there many/any vegetarian options?

They have a few if you still do seafood but i would go somewhere else. We went there, being meat eaters, and were forced to order 12 oz and 14 oz steaks starting at over 50 bucks because thats the beginning size unless you want a 6oz filet mignon…

    Is parking available in restaurant?

I've seen Valet Parking, but I don't know the hours. Street parking is spotty.

What time is their happy hour? The website doesn't say.

2:30pm - 6pm I believe. Search Yelp photos for the menu!

Can you bring a bottle of wine?! If so what is the corkage fee ?! Thank you!

    $25

Is the Impossible Burger available at dinner or only at lunch?

They change their menu daily, at least for dinner. And it wasn't on the dinner menu the day we went.

    Do you guys have valetparking?

Yes we do! $20 per car. Valet is located curbside between Epic and Waterbar

One thing I wasn't sure about was the plastic cups. Every time I've gone they've served drinks in plastic cups, but since it's so busy during First Thursdays, I'm not sure if that's their normal setup or just something they do to keep things moving during the event. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. Arrived on a whim at around 6pm on a weekday and found a nice seat at the bar top. They have these little orb lights that can't be moved. Sitting in front of one takes some bar space away from you, so I changed seats to get a few more inches of space. Emilio the bartender was mega friendly and went over some items on the menu. He also told me I was right on time for the saber champagne presentation -more on that in a sec. For drinks, I ordered the Hibiscus Spice and the Paradise cocktail. Both were super fruity and delicious! I had a great time sipping on this while chatting it up with a few folks at the bar. To nibble, I can never say no to ahi tuna tartare and this one was great! The most interesting little wafers, ahi tuna with some avocado cream and a little spicy sauce. I absolutely devoured these! So good! Now for the best part, the champagne presentation! A gentleman gave a little info session on on how this process is done and at the end he took a giant to a bottle of champagne to open it. Really Cool! What made this even better was that everyone at the bar got to snag a complimentary glass. What a treat! Super cute little hour of so sitting at the bar at the St. Regis. Absolutely a little pricey, but i'ma girl who lives to spoil herself a bit. Because YOLO. Right?

It partnered perfectly with my burger and crispy french fries. We also ordered some small plates and each was fresh, had flavor, and looked good. The staff was friendly; they allowed us enough time to eat dinner and enjoy it. The ambiance was nice; it would have been nice to sit for longer! I would be satisfied to return.

From the outside this is not technically the place that I would've chosen, but I'm glad we came because the food was outstanding so we're the drinks. And the staff were extremely friendly, didn't rush us. The waiter gave great recommendations for the food. I had the mushroom risotto with added chicken. As well as the Ube colada drink. Everything was well seasoned, very flavorful. You could definitely taste the alcohol in the drink. I felt like prices were extremely affordable. They refilled our water multiple times and were helpful towards us. It is directly across from a hotel so that's convenient and down the street from the parking garage. My friend got the steak and fries and she said it was very tender well flavored. I would highly recommend this restaurant/bar and would definitely be back.
