Donworth Hall was the perfect venue for my son's baptism and 1st birthday party. The facility is spacious, has a full kitchen, a bar area, restrooms, and A/V system. We were able to stage twelve 60" tables with seats, 3 buffet tables, and large soft-play area comfortably with extra space in front of the stage for games and activities. Working with Shay is super easy and she's very responsive to questions or requests. I highly recommend booking Donworth Hall for your next event.

I recently had my 18th birthday party here on November 5, 2011. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! IT IS HUGE! The bathrooms are very neat, nice kitchen, and has a lovely bar for refreshments. Perfect place to throw a party. It has a stage for the dj. The event coordinator was very kind and helpful. She always came by and asked us if we needed anything. Overall, I had a great time at that hall. I really recommend it!

Booking the spot was easy. After I messaged Maria, she was quick to confirm that our date was available. (We booked 3 months in advance.) The booking and payment/deposit process was also straight forward. Really appreciate the easy process. As for the space, it can fit up to 50 people for a luncheon comfortably. One restroom; back room for extra tables and that's where our caterer stayed during our event. (Which btw I booked after seeing them featured on A Venue's Instagram post.) Maria and team had setup the tables, chairs, table covers and the balloon backdrop (extra charge) for us. The place was also so clean when we arrived! We booked this spot for a bday surprise family luncheon and it was perfect for our family! Can't wait to book again!

I think it is Park & Rec's nicest event space. The best part about this venue is the view of the lake, second - the ample parking and ease of getting in and out of the area. There is one large room for rent and an adjacent room that can be added for extra space. We rented both spaces and it was pretty affordable. With the cost of the rental, you get to use the tables and chairs. However, you are also responsible for your own set up and take down of everything at your event. So if you don't have a set up crew, you will need one. Make sure to allow extra time on your rental for this. In addition to the two rooms, there is an entrance hall that we set up with photos, flowers and sign in table. There are men's and women's restrooms and a catering kitchen with fridge, freezer, sink and ice maker. There are no ovens, microwaves or any heating appliances available. There is no wifi available, bring your own hot spot if needed. That being said, it was a beautiful event and on a sunny day, the sun glistens off the lake in a golden hue and just sets the scene for any event.

The main room was recently renovated and could occupy 125 people. There was a caterer's kitchen set up area and well maintained bathrooms for the guests. Definitely a good venue for the views, location and price.

Inside the Clubhouse there are many tables by the large windows looking out to the beautiful grounds so try to score one of those tables. As I mentioned earlier, my BFF knows all thing OLD SCHOOL SF & this place is...it almost looked like a super fancy retirement home! Tables of well coiffed older women playing games, and lunching. Service was pretty good, they kept that diet coke coming!! The menu has all the lunch basics, cobb salad, clam chowder, burger, fish & chips... You'd think they would at least put Spanish rice in this bowl. Nope. You get white rice as if it was a Chinese rice plate. The restaurant was not crowded so you'd think the sandwich would come nice and toasty. Nope. The sandwich probably sat on the counter for pickup a little longer than it should have. I never mind spending money on food if the quality warrants it. THIS IS NOT WORTH IT. Go somewhere else to have lunch.

You sign up for day of the week, and get a 1 hour swim lesson with other children around the same age (6 months - 6 years for Cuttlefish). The first 15 mins of the class are free time in the water, you can play with the various water toys. The next 15-20 mins is Karaoke in the Pool, with nursery rhymes in a circle time. The last 15-20 mins of the class are divided into age groups, with the youngest kids on one side, and older kids on the other. Some of the teachers are really wonderful, Mary is my favorite, as she has a passion and affinity for working with the little ones. All the teachers are great though in different ways. My daughter loves swim lessons here, even though the class week after week is the same thing lol. The classes are also inexpensive compared to Le Petite Balen. The makeup sessions are very flexible too - just be sure to call Monday morning at 10am the week you'll be needing a different day - and generally they're able to fit you in. Or even in my case, they couldn't, but said to call the following week to have me do the make-up, which was so kind. Parking is super easy here too, and conveniently located next to the Zoo and Sunset district.

One session isn't enough to teach them to swim, it's nice to get them acclimated to being in the water and getting their whole head wet. Especially when we don't know anyone that has a pool near us.

We could not be happier with the Stern Grove Trocadero Clubhouse for our wedding ceremony and…read morereception. It was the perfect setting for our woodsy/folksy wedding. Working with Kern to get all the paperwork and insurance completed was easy enough. He was awesome. Probably a different experience than most wedding venues, since it's more about rules and regulations, than recommendations and event planning. But they were very pleasant and helpful, nonetheless. And all the other Parks and Rec staff that we talked to during the Saturday morning site walk-throughs were able to answer all of our questions. We ended up only booking the venue from 5-midnight, and with a 6:30 start-time, setup was a bit rushed and chaotic, but it can be done! We kept decorations somewhat simple and many helping hands to get it all ready. Greg, the SF Park and Recreation's staff person assigned to assist us the evening of the wedding, was so nice and very helpful with moving tables and helping out in other ways. He told us at the beginning of the evening that it was his goal to help make everything go smoothly (and make sure we were out of there by our cut-off time). We also used the recommended security guard contractor (Tom Taylor), and we were provided with an excellent security guard for the night (Dan Lee). He was very knowledgeable about the venue and had a few suggestions on where to put the food truck and how to accommodate parking for the few guests who ended up driving. Two things to keep in mind about travel to/from the venue: * The parking lot that is on the other side of the concert meadow closes at 8:30pm. So don't have guests park over there if you have an evening event. * I also think I echo other reviewers, but it is something that is annoying: sometimes the Uber and Lyft drivers will refuse to pick up guests all the way down in the grove and will make them walk all the way up or just cancel on them. So having a car or small van to at least shuttle people up and down the hill might be a good idea, but maybe unnecessary. The evening was absolutely magical and everything that we had imagined. Such a beautiful place.

Said wedding was fine except for some in-poor-taste snarkery that one particularly tall fellow was spilling within earshot of the people he was snarking (he had never met them before and was just spreading nasty rumors about them, because he was an imbecile). Sadly, the marriage whose beginning I celebrated here did not last, and even more sadly, the bride's sister, who was a year younger than me, has also passed away. Why am I mentioning all these rude and sad things? Because I associate them with that wedding and this place, even though nothing bad from that wedding should be associated with this place. I mean, it's not Trocadero Clubhouse's fault that the particularly tall fellow was an imbecile or that the then happy couple was mismatched from the start and destined for unhappiness with each other or that drug addiction is often tragic and deadly. Here's what to know: This is a lovely setting for a wedding. You can't get much better than the smell of redwood trees at your wedding reception.
