We went there for lunch to celebrate my nephew's 50th birthday. The lunch menu was very limited so we all had the chicken sandwich. It was ok. The 4 stars review is for our waitress. She was very attentive. When we got there at 12:30pm we all decided to sit inside since it was a little cold on the patio. After about an hour the sun came out and we decided to move outside on the patio. That was short lived since it got so hot and no shade so we all went back inside. There were 2 other brave customers who stayed outside the entire time. The view from the patio is spectacular. I'm sure it's even nicer during the night when all the high rise buildings are all lit up. I'm sure it's nice to see all the lights during Christmas. I would go back at dinner to experience the night views from the patio. One suggestion I have is for Shelby's to provide some awnings or shades, and I think they would attract more daytime customers. Overall a nice venue, and will definitely be back to try the dinner menu. read more

I went here last weekend, and while the views were amazing, unfortunately the service was terrible. It was a cold San Francisco night, and we asked FOUR separate times for the heater near us to be turned on. After finally asking a fifth person, we were told, "Oh, I think it's broken." Why wasn't that communicated to us the first time we asked instead of having us sit outside in the cold with little blankets waiting? The service overall was extremely slow. Everything took so long that we eventually had to go inside just to pay our tab. There was also an uncomfortable inconsistency with how guests were treated. I noticed several people were vaping outside, yet only one person was singled out by a host and very rudely told, "DON'T DO THAT." The issue wasn't that they were asked to stop. It was the tone and the fact that multiple other people were doing the exact same thing without being addressed. I've been to several rooftop bars here in San Francisco and in other cities, and unfortunately this was by far one of the worst service experiences I've had. I realize the last time I was here was pre COVID, when this rooftop was Everdene at the Virgin Hotel. The music was uncomfortably loud, making conversation difficult. The charcuterie board was underwhelming, with items that felt more store‑bought than curated. The pear and prosciutto pizza also missed the mark in both presentation and appeal. Service was fine, though it carried a level of pretentiousness that didn't match the quality delivered. The biggest disappointment, however, was the condition of the restrooms. They were extremely dirty -- out of paper towels, only one functioning hand dryer, a dirty sink, and wet floors. For a dinner totaling $260 among friends, having to freshen up in a shared restroom in that condition was genuinely off‑putting. As a former restaurant owner, I know restroom upkeep is basic customer service and not difficult to maintain. Many establishments manage this every 30 minutes without issue. I truly wanted to enjoy this place and hoped it might have just been an off night, but the overall experience didn't justify the price. We had dinner here last night on a whim and it was good. We made a last minute resi on open table and got right in. We were confused on parking and with all the one way streets we ended up 10 mins late. I finally figured out they had vallet when I checked their website, but no one was outside so we pulled up and ran in. They guy came out, gave us a ticket and we went to dinner. The view was so beautiful, seating was a little tight but it was fine. We walk to the table and there was honey all over the seat cushion and I asked the host about it and he just flapped at me to flip it over, "it's just honey he said" So we order, the flatbread with prosciutto and burrata, it was so good! Also got the short rib and pasta, food and drinks were yum. Waiter was RUDE! No personality, dismissive and rushed. The couple next to us said the same thing. When we got down stairs it was $28 to vallet, alright fine, there was no ever to park. This time around my experience at Shelby's was very poor. The shrimp scampi was not good, my husband's Coke soda took 15 mins to arrive and by the time it came he was already done with his food. The table next to us had 4 people sitting at a two person table and he kept pushing me and rubbing up against our belongings. There was a big party inside the restaurant who had a bunch of drunk women who kept coming outside and interrupting us and other guests asking us to move so they can take pictures. Food was great! Lovely views of the city. Service was great as well, was pretty low maintenance but happy they asked if we wanted dessert. We didn't get any here but we did end up getting some elsewhere lol. Fish was cooked perfectly for both dishes, salmon specifically was still piping hot throughout the meal which told me that it was cooked properly and not overcooked at all. They have outdoor heaters for night time if anyone is curious about outdoor seating in the summer. Nice layout of the bar, too. Big windows, open layout. Shelby's is a lovely romantic vibe with a great view of the San Francisco cityscape. The menu changes quite often; dishes we saw in Yelp photos were mostly not present on the menu anymore. What we tried: + Tuna Tartare [5/5]: Really delicious tuna; fresh and spicy. The wasabi aioli was really good but I wish there was more of it. Good ratio of the chips to tuna. + Mushroom Risotto [6/5 - would recommend]: This was actually a perfect risotto dish. The portion size was huge and the mushrooms + cheese were perfect. I would order this again! + Pork Chop [2/5]: The dish was beautifully plated but the pork was dry and overcooked IMO. The seasoning was pretty good and the peppers that accompany the protein are great, but I didn't particularly enjoy this dish. Service checks in quite often and felt quite professional. Walked in on a Friday night around 9:30 pm after missing our dinner reservation elsewhere and we were able to snag a table indoors with no wait! The view is absolutely gorgeous from indoors, with wraparound floor to ceiling windows giving you a panoramic view of the city. Setting is a lot more intimate and cozy. The menu is only one side, leaving no frills but something for every diet. They have a live DJ playing music making this restaurant truly the perfect place to start your weekend. We ordered the roasted bone marrow and chicken caesar salad for our appetizers. Both great and pretty filling together, the portions for the salad were more than generous. We ordered the mushroom risotto and braised short rib for our main entrees. The mushroom risotto had the perfect amount of parmesan and butter, this alone was filling enough. Short rib was pretty dry, paired well with the risotto but overall we could've done without. The staff is quick to refill your drinks but the food does come out pretty slowly, highly recommend ordering everything at once so you're not waiting for your entrees. As lovely as the view is here, I definitely did not get to enjoy my time here as much as I would have hoped. I was dining alone and it seemed like they decided when I was done ordering from the menu. I ordered a oaxacan old fashioned and the cheese charcuterie board, which was absolutely delicious! That was all the food I got to try, though. After finishing my drink, I asked the waiter who came over about the strongest drink on their menu, which he said was the oaxacan. That sounded great, so I asked for a refill. However he then took the menu without saying anything which confused me a bit. After returning with my drink he thanked me for joining them so I figured that was them signaling I was done ordering! Stunning interior and patio, and if you like to stare at tall buildings, you'll get a panoramic cityscape view. They've done a beautiful job with their patio with lounge sofas, padded. But on blistering heat wave Indian summer days, when it's 87 degrees in the city, they should have some sort of coverings, awnings, shades, etc., because though we wanted to soak in the breeze and sun, it was waaaay too hot and forced to sit inside. The other issue is they need to update their website menu to currently whatever is being offered. They have a croque monsiur on the menu site, but when we got there, all they had was eggs eggs and more eggs. Brunch can be such a farce with every imaginable kind of egg. We were super hungry, so we settled for their shakshuka with verde and crusty bread, the vegan sausage and roasted potatoes. All of it was stellar, super tasty. The service excellent, the prices a bit on the high side. We lucked out on the parking, which can be tough to find street parking and parking garages are pricey. read more

Made reservations for dinner on a Wednesday night at 8pm. We arrived over 15 mins late and they were able to seat us right away. Service was really great even though the place was packed. There was a tech event on the other side of the rooftop so it was popping. There are good views and you can sit outside by the couches. It was pretty cold so we sat inside right by the glass doors separating the inside from outside. The food overall was a bit underwhelming. The oysters didn't taste as fresh as expected, though the bluefin tuna tartare was a highlight--well-balanced and enjoyable. The roasted cauliflower, on the other hand, lacked flavor and depth and ended up feeling like a pretty forgettable starter. For my main, I had the braised short rib. The meat was tender and nicely cooked, but the dish leaned quite heavy and a bit too salty--I ended up taking half to go and found myself reaching for water throughout the meal. On a more positive note, the cocktails were yummy. The Summer Breeze in particular stood out. It was refreshing, well-balanced, and not overly sweet. read more

My husband finished it, and my son ordered something else. We were actually having a great time until the very end of our visit. After we finished eating, we asked for the bill. When our server came to pick it up, we asked if it would be okay for us to move to some empty seats nearby to take a quick family photo with the view while we waited for him to return with our debit card and receipt. We told him we would be right there, and he said it was totally fine.My whole family moved to the empty seats to take a quick photo. It also wasn't even busy that night, and there were plenty of empty seats around us. We hadn't even been there for a minute when the manager came over and told us we had to move. My husband politely said okay and asked if we could just take one quick photo before moving since we were still waiting for our server to return with our card and receipt. The manager responded in a very rude tone and said, "No," then asked, "Where did you guys even come from?" My husband explained that we had just finished eating and were only waiting for our debit card and receipt. The manager continued with the same rude attitude and said, "Okay, you can wait somewhere else." My husband did not argue with him. We simply went back to our original table and waited for our server to return. Once we got our card and receipt, we left right away. It was very disappointing because we had been having such a nice time celebrating two special occasions with our family. We were paying customers who had just finished our meal and were still waiting for our payment to be completed. We were not trying to cause any problems. We simply wanted to take one quick family photo with the view, especially since we were celebrating our anniversary and our daughter's birthday. We completely understand if guests are not allowed to sit in a certain area, and we would have had no problem moving. The issue was the way the manager spoke to us. There was no reason for him to be rude or disrespectful, especially when we were polite and simply asked if we could take one photo before moving. It wasn't even a busy night, and we were not preventing other customers from being seated. We spent a lot of money here to celebrate a special family occasion, only to leave feeling disrespected and unwelcome because of how the manager treated us. Unfortunately, because of this experience, we will not be coming back, and I cannot recommend this place to our family and friends. Wow! This rooftop bar is an absolute must when you are visiting San Fran! The nighttime view of the city is so great and they made the best espresso martini I've ever had! It took us 30-40 minutes to finally see a server and then it took them 30-40 minutes to come back to us. We were able to make a 4 pm reservation on open table for this spot, this is becoming more and more common now for eating/hang spots to do this, takes making the reservations off of their plate. This spots views were incredible to say the least. Awesome awesome feature that lived up to the hype. Obviously because of the views most people when they come here request to be seated outside where they're right in plain site of all the tall buildings, even shots of the Bay from the outside too, it's awesome. We ordered a few rounds of Old Fashioneds. Then a round of rose. My wife also tried out the raw oysters too. The drinks were quality, made perfect. One thing I want to mention here was the service we got. Both our server & the bar tender were awesome. For some odd reason our phones were draining battery like crazy. We then Uber Eats ordered 2 charging cords & a hub, the bartender helped me out and charged both of our phones rotating them for us behind his register at the outlet. Huge help to us. To be fair, I was staying at the hotel, so the commute here (and back to my room) was easy peasy. But, I have been getting tons of recommendations to come here and I'm glad it was such a convenient way to try it out. Arrived around 8pm and sat right at the bar. I took a second to peruse the menu, but eventually just asked the bartender, what his favorite drink was and went with that. The Labamba! So good too! Im a girl who loves a spicy drink so this was up my alley. Fruity and spicy! A friend had recommended Shelby's, and I was glad to have secured a patio spot walk-in (no RSVP) just slightly before 9pm on a Saturday night. At the time, it wasn't too busy but by 10pm? Wow did it get PACKED with barely space to line up. I had their drink closest Paloma - so good that I had forgotten the name. It was super tasty, super strong (yes you'll feel it) and also on the sweeter end. The sweetness unfortunately couldn't have been adjusted. Drinks aside, the ambiance was pleasant and could be intimate. Sit by the window and watch the sunset or the stars; it's amazing. We had a wonderful dinner at Shelby's! We were nicely accommodated and chose to sit outside, where we had a great view and were seated under one of the heaters. It was a windy evening, so it was a little chilly, but the view definitely made up for it. We started with a couple of glasses of wine, oysters, and the tuna tartare, which was delicious. My husband had a pasta dish for his main course, and I had the mussels, which came in an absolutely delicious sauce--perfect for soaking up with bread! I did have to ask for extra bread, as the portion that comes with the dish just wasn't quite enough for that amazing sauce. Overall, it was a great experience. We've been making it a goal to visit all of the rooftop restaurants in San Francisco, and I'm happy to say Shelby's is now checked off the list. The elderflower cucumber cocktail (totally blanking on the name) was super refreshing and not overly sweet. Service was also very attentive and prompt, despite it being a bit busy. And not on crusty, hard to cut bread. Yuck. Waitress never checked back, never refilled our water, never offered a drink refill or asked us to order another round. Just a lot of basics of service and cooking that were missed, especially when they put the price point so high. We've been here before for dinner and it worked better. We were invited to an intimate 18th birthday here, out on the terrace. The location is very unique, prior to this I didn't even know it existed. It was definitely cold that evening, there are heat lamps but they don't seem to reach the table spaces, I felt like they were heating the walkways more than anything. They do provide blankets on request. Our party ordered mostly tapas to share and one main dish to share as well: roasted cauliflower, tuna tartare, prosciutto & burrata flatbread, pan roasted red cod, the braised short bread, and the bread pudding to finish it off. The girls also ordered Shirley Temples. I will have to say the tuna tartares were the stars of the night as we ended up ordering 2. And the bread pudding was delicious as well. Quite disappointed in the short rib. It simply tasted like pot roast to me. Go for the ambiance for sure but be prepared and dress warmly if you're going in December. read more

The music was top notch and sent me right into a state of feeling like the main character... However, the food broke the fantasy... Kelly welcomed me and our guests warmly and made a fast adjustment when we brought one extra by adjusting the tables to accommodate us.
