Ube Mochi Pancakes, $20
Calvin C.

After attending an event at City Hall, we needed a place for a group lunch for about ten people. Son and Garden was a great place for that. It was close (within walking distance) and we were able to make reservations in advance. We visited around 11am on a Wednesday. The food was good, although we did see on the menu that its states "Substitutions or modifications are politely declined". We didn't try asking for any, but usually prefer restaurants that are more accommodating. Some of the menu offerings are a really creative twist on traditional dishes. The Bibimbap, for example, has a big piece of fried chicken. The grilled chicken salad is presented in a crispy shell made of fried parmesan cheese. Parking in this area is tight. If you visit, you should use rideshare.

Son & Garden is one of the most Instagrammable restaurants I've been to! Right as you walk in, you are greeted with a neon sign with flowers as the backdrop. Then, as you walk in, you can see that the ceilings and the decorations are all so vibrant and beautiful. We were there for the Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea experience. Besides the decoration, I feel like the food and the tea were quite average for the price we paid! We paid nearly $80 per person. We were full at the end but the desserts and the sandwiches were just average. My favorite was the warm scones. I like the berries in the scones and how fluffy they are. I think the afternoon tea expensive price doesn't justify the mediocre food quality. I have only been here for the afternoon tea experience. The food quality to price ratio might be different for their other brunch food. I did see that a lot of people were there for the afternoon tea experience.

I went to the Menlo Park location for my 40th birthday and this SF location for my 42nd birthday. It all lives up to the hype! Flower decorations, fancy and fun glassware, yummy food and good service. IG worthy pics of decor and food that will also please the palette. Made a reservation for a Sunday morning and we were sat right away. I got the ricotta pancakes this time and they were delicious. Maybe I'll be back in 2 more years :)

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: An instagram worthy establishment. The extended review... Food: Deep fried French toast - 3/5 - Definitely a specialty that most places do not have. In ranks standard fare amongst others I've had. Kudos for the plating work. Service: 3/5 - Friendly staff. Ambiance: 4/5 - Quite the nice interior and it's totally decked out. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pricing is a little on the steeper side but there are definitely many elements to the plate

Made reservations for 12PM but even though we live 25 min away and left at 11:15 AM, there was a lot of traffic and hard to find parking on the way there and didn't get to the restaurant until 12:30PM! The staff was still extremely accommodating though and helped us keep our reservations, which was much appreciated! Food overall was great! My personal favorites were the potatoes on the side and the waffle from their chicken and waffles! However, I think the mochi pancakes we ordered were undercooked because they were not chewy as described on the menu and were rather dense and mushy. Honestly, would not have taken another bite of it. I think the mushiness just completely blocked out any matcha or pancake flavor whatsoever. We informed the staff about this and they tried to convince us that they were supposed to be like this, but in the end offered us a replacement for the ricotta pancakes which turned out to be delicious! So I genuinely think it was a mistake for the matcha mochi pancakes, otherwise they could've tasted great as other people have mentioned. Very thankful the staff members were so accommodating, but it did seem like they were a bit annoyed at our request afterwards. Not sure if I would come back again just because the food was not extremely delicious and a bit pricier, but the place is really cute and has aesthetic presentation for their dishes!

Not only cool cocktails and beautiful food everything was fresh with amazing flavors. I loved the capers and dill in the crab Benedict and the sourdough toast it was on was the perfect accompaniment. The ricotta pancakes were light fluffy and delicious no need for syrup. Ocean panini was a good lunch option to add to our breakfast dishes to share. The atmosphere was beautiful and the family feel made it a place we loved dining at. Will definitely remember this place for future trips to SF

Tiramisu Latte

Not worth the hype and only good for cute decor. I went for brunch with two friends, so we each got a drink and then three plates to share. Our check totaled to $127 and personally, did not think it was worth it. Each of us got different drinks and didn't like them. I got the tiramisu latte which tasted nothing like tiramisu and was overall not good. The matcha wasn't very strong and the beet latte had espresso (which I guess usually isn't included). We ordered the volcano pancakes, the ube mochi pancakes, and the short rib omurice. I would say the volcano pancakes are the only worthwhile item to order. The liquid chocolate wasn't too sweet and the pancakes were well cooked. The ube pancakes were pretty starchy and didn't have a strong ube flavor. For the short rib omurice, we thought the meat was really flavorful and tender, however, the rice was just white rice instead of the usual seasoned fried rice. Maybe their afternoon tea is better since I saw multiple people getting that, but this is my second time visiting and I would not recommend it.

Some type of Matcha drink... I think we can agree that it was pretty and my niece said it was good

This is a little bit of a tough one. The food was pretty good and it was cute inside. The staff was friendly, too. It's absolutely not the best neighborhood, right in the middle of the tenderloin, but we knew that going in. Plus, we got to see a naked person walking around outside our window. Good times. That said, as long as you're OK with not being in the best neighborhood, it was a pretty enjoyable experience. We all tried different things from French toast to the garden omelette. We had a party at seven, and from the first person being served to the last person being served their food, it was at least 30 minutes. It was crowded because it was a New Year's, and it's tough to get a brunch reservation when a lot of the other restaurants are closed, but they really need to work on their timing. I got the garden omelette and it was OK, but this potatoes and scone that it came with were really delicious. My boyfriend got a crab omelette that looked pretty good but I did not have a bite. Everybody else seemed to like their food. The drinks were really pretty and served and adorable cups. I ordered a hot tea and it came in a darling tea pot with a matching teacup. It was very fun and instagrammable. The food was good, not amazing, but definitely good. I'm not sure if their reservation policy was just for New Year's Day or if it's always pretty strict, but it was a 48 hour cancellation with a credit card. I think it was $25 per person if you didn't show up. Kind of a bummer because we forgot we had free breakfast at our hotel and we had booked it 48 hours in advance so there was no chance to cancel it. It was still fun and enjoyable and yummy.

Food (5/5): One of my favorite brunch spots in SF! Love their Asian-themed dishes especially -- the Matcha Souffle Pancakes are my personal favorite, but everything we ordered was delicious! Seriously don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu Ambiance (5/5): A bit cramped and noisy for sure, but it's very unique! They curated a really fun and whimsical atmosphere with tons of different colors and fun decorations Value (4/5): The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Portions are pretty generous too, and quality is definitely there. Overall: This is definitely a brunch spot that I'd recommend to friends and will definitely be coming back to!

This is my first time at this location, I have been to other son & garden's before. Compared to the Menlo Park location, I was pleasantly surprised about this location. There were a few more "photo" spots. I also think the menu differed a bit . We came as a group and tried a variety of their alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We were really impressed with how the drinks looked and tasted. We got a different variety of food including Benedict's, burgers, ube pancakes and we enjoyed all of them thoroughly. I will definitely be back to this location!

Ube latte

I came to Son and Garden for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. Because the location is at the edge of the Tenderloin, there's not much safe parking nearby so I got dropped off. Service was good, and seating was very comfortable with pretty florals decorating the entire restaurant. I ordered a warm ube latte and a Bear Belly Carbonara. The ube latte had nice milk foam and a strong ube flavor, which I enjoyed. The Carbonara was a bit on the heavier side, but I still enjoyed the bacon flavor and the pasta was cooked well. I didn't know there was garlic bread included, but that's a good thing! Food is pricey, but overall this is a good place for special occasions.

They no longer offer the tea service. I wish that would have been mentioned when I booked a reservation. They aren't good at answering the phone or responding to voicemails :/ Otherwise the food was good and the servers were nice and attentive.

Fried Chicken Benedict

Was in the city early in the morning and decided to try out this brunch spot. The interior is beautifully decorated with a floral theme perfect for taking pictures. The food was delicious; I ordered the Fried Chicken Benedict, which was perfectly balanced not too heavy and not too light. Service was fast and easy as well. Definitely a great spot to check out!

I liked the cardamom in the Beauty Mark as well that my partner ordered. We ordered shishito peppers and mushroom bahn mi sliders. The mushroom bahn mi sliders were amazing - the quality fillings and taste of the soft bun - I was unexpectedly hit with a bite of spice from maybe jalapeño seeds left but didn't sour my experience. The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

It takes a lot for me to consider a return visit to a cocktail bar. Most of the time, I just begrudgingly go along with my friends to a mediocre bar, but Blind Pig is a place I would enthusiastically return to again and again. I first got the namesake cocktail: Blind Pig. It was incredibly well-balanced, and the flame presentation upon arrival was an epic mini show. Later during last call, I decided to risk it all and roll the dice to order from the secret menu. I rolled a 5, which got me a wine & Japanese beer concoction with Sichuan peppercorn. Totally feel like this cocktail was made for me, as I rep the 川渝 region. The drink was strong, but that made it all the better. Seeing that it was named one of the top 50 best bars in North American, we had to check it out! We came in a Thursday night in mid-April about 9:45 PM. They have security outside thar checks IDs & also manages the queue in case the bar gets too crowded. We had no issues getting in, but there were zero indoor seats available - both the bar & table seating. Thankfully, they have a really cozy & well-lit patio area. The waitress let us know that even the outdoor patio has table-side service, so we made ourselves comfortable on the outdoor bench & within seconds she had brought us waters & cocktail menus. Weather outside was really nice, so I'm glad we actually sat outside. Each cocktail is $20, which definitely is a little steep, but I think the creativity, quality, & prestige of being named a top 50 bar supports the price. Each part of the menu is organized by liquor ie whiskey, vodka, brandy, gin, etc. We tried 4 drinks total. I only took menu photos of the pages we ordered from but they have a lot more selections. We ordered the Kung Fu Pandan, Silky Street, Rice Rice Baby, & Tropical Gangsta. We had some favorites over others, but all were very well crafted!
