Underground bar with a great bar, lots of seating and yummy drinks! It definitely gets busy and that combined with the music makes for a loud environment but it's fun! Although it's underground it's not stuffy however it might not be the best if you're claustrophobic. The music selection was good and overall we had a great time. read more

I stumbled upon this bar on a night out. It looked cute on TikTok. I go down some stairs and the ambience was cute. My friends and I tried a bunch of different drinks and my favorites are the one with matcha or passionfruit. Service by Marcus was great. He recommended the best drink for me based on my usual taste preferences. The only thing I would change is the music. Needs to include Bay Area music and mainstream music. I'll be back! read more

Persona had both a bar and a club vibe that my friends and I enjoyed this past weekend! When our group of 10 walked in, we ordered our drinks along the bar & then found seating in a more secluded area. There's plenty of space available for seating & a small area in front of the DJ booth for dancing. Overall the music was a bit loud, but great vibe. My friends and I ordered a few drinks, with my favorite being their Matcha Mirage! The drinks were decently priced and all unique, and they were depicted accurately by photo & description in their extensive menu. I loved the strong matcha taste that paired well with the gin base. This place is located underground and you are greeted with these cute neon letters! We went on a Sunday night and they had a live latin band which I loved. We started with the espresso martini and this other one where the rosemary lit on fire which was cool. This was a good an espresso martini so I enjoyed this one. We asked for a recommendation from the bartender so he made us the Porn Star I think is what he called it and it tasted great! They also decked with some Halloween decorations, it seemed to have a lot of seating and space, I would definitely come back here! read more

Was here on Valentine's Day weekend and was chill. Good drinks in general and nice space. Was sat at a table because we had a reservation which was nice at first. This is such a cute cocktail lounge. Very trendy and minimalist inside and their drink selection is great. There are some very creative and unique drinks on the menu. I saw the Matcha Mirage from other photos on Yelp and wanted to order one for myself as a matcha lover. My husband got the Intersection, even though he's not a fan of bourbon, but hey, thai tea in a cocktail sounded like a fun drink to try. It did take a while for the server to take our drink orders and bring out the drinks, but maybe that was intentional, so we could pace ourselves with the drinks. The Matcha Mirage was soo freaking good, it tasted very refreshing with the mint and you could barely taste the gin. All of our friends also liked what they ordered as well. It did get a little hot after a while, so that was the only issue and we ended up heading out after another round of drinks. Such a vibe! My girls and I had a GNO a few weeks ago and we wanted to find a place with enough room, able to order a drink without screaming over the music, and have a sultry ambiance. We appreciated the staff who helped us with our drinks/shots. There is also fresh popcorn for purchase! Persona has become one of my go to bars in San Francisco. I come here often, it's a great spot to have a good conversation or to enjoy a fun night out. The low lighting sets the mood perfectly, giving the place a relaxing, almost intimate atmosphere. The bartenders always make the experience better they're welcoming, easy to talk to, and their recommendations are always on point. You can tell they know their craft. The drinks themselves are creative, balanced, and just good every time. It's one of those places that feels stylish without being over the top. Loved the vibes at Persona! We came early before 9pm after having dinner nearby so the bar was still pretty empty but we enjoyed having more of a quiet, intimate to chat. There's a good mix of tables, bar seats and lounge chairs to choose from so it's definitely a nice mix between cool and lowkey. I got the matcha mirage which was delicious with a good amount of sweetness while being really matcha forward. Loved this as a post-dinner drink! Definitely would come back on a date or with friends! read more

Second year in a row at Persona and it delivered once again! I absolutely love this bar. It has the underground element to it, it's laid back, but the drinks are insane and so elevated. The small touches of decor and lighting make this spot memorable, as well as their extensive drink menu. We had so much fun checking out the variety of special cocktails, sitting and enjoying company, and chatting with the bartenders. With a bustling crowd and live DJ until 2AM, the vibes here late at night are great-- Persona is the best for staying open past midnight in an area that's usually a little more dead! We ordered the Espresso Martini [5/5] and the Intersection [4/5]. I would definitely order the espresso martini again for its sweet and creamy taste. The Intersection was also pretty good with a sweet & sour citrus taste as well as a refreshing egg white on top, but it wasn't good enough that I would order it again. On a Friday night at midnight, there was plenty of seating which is quite unique for a bar. Persona cleverly organizes the space so that the loudest standing area is further from the seating area, so the volume is great for conversation. I would definitely come here again for a dancey night or to bring a group of friends to catch up! read more

Persona gives off a lounge-y, with a splash of club, vibes. It's dim with lots of seating but it's so hard to hear each other over the live DJ. If there was enough space, I'm sure people would eventually turn it into a dance floor. And on a Friday night, the place was packed! It took awhile for us to settle down and find a place for our group. Be prepared for bad cell service since it's below ground! A lot of their cocktails are inspired by Asian flavors. I ordered the Matcha Mirage which sounded so good. The drink itself smelled like matcha but unfortunately, it didn't taste like matcha...or maybe it was too subtle for me. It had stronger notes of mint and lime. Bartenders are extremely efficient and I was checked on multiple times while someone was already making me a drink. I wanted to stay and try more drinks but it just got really crowded and warm so we left after one round. And it was just too hard to hear each other over the music...this wasn't really the vibe we were looking for to catch up with each other. If you're still interested in visiting, try making a reservation for a good seat. And the dress attire is casual but a lot of people were dressed up for the night. read more

I stopped by with some friends to grab some drinks and have a place to chat. The staff member who helped us was very welcoming and helped us with our drinks. Every drink we ordered was amazing. I tend to go for fruity and sweeter drinks many of them were just that. This spot has dim lighting and different types of seating: at the bar, booth seats, and table seating. The vibe is intimate and a great place to have a conversation with some music playing in the background. The only food they sell is popcorn. They also have a pool table as well. read more

So nice, we came back twice. We came here last year for a work party, this year the party was elsewhere but we insisted on coming back, as this is a great spot for gathering. The bar and service is great, the menu is good but not trite. Persona is an underground (literally) speakeasy vibe that has bouncers at the front to check your ID and then you're ushered to head down the stairs. The entryway to the bar and private room under the teal neon light is one of my favorite moments. They have a big mirror that reflects and you can snap a quick photo of your group and the multiple Persona neon signs makes it a little trippy. As you walk into the space you'll catch a few tables you can sit at and they're plush leather benches with a few stools to sit around. Tables are basically first come so if you have an early bird in your group, send them first. The drinnks are really nicely done here and I love their menu. They have a u-shape wrap around bar and depending if they have a private event, half of the bar could be closed off. I've enjoyed the room with live music and other times with a dj. You just never know what mood Persona is in. read more

4.5 STARS As I gingerly walked down the steep flight of stairs in flats, my first thought? I know it's been over a decade but how in the heck did I walk down these stairs in heels, in the dark without tumbling down and unintentionally mooning the poor people in back of me? There should be a slide like Slide in the city once had! Persona opened in 2021, The Cellar re-brand from the owners of Peninsula's Barrelhouse and Vinyl Room, and Matador at the ground level. They're a cocktail bar, social club, and event space (no longer a dance club). DJs on Thursday - Saturdays from 9 pm - 2 am. No cover. I can't speak for their nightlife now but I've enjoyed their chill happy hours. HH Specials: Monday - Friday, 5 pm - 7 pm - $3 off specialty cocktails ($16-$18), beer, and wine They have creative specialty cocktails made with matcha, thai tea, mushrooms, etc. D R I N K S / S N A C K S IMO, their liquor selection is a bit limited so I've only stuck with Hendricks ($16). What makes up for it is their delicious freshly popped butter popcorn ($6) served in a retro red and white striped box. S E R V I C E Shout-out to Drago! He's always super kind and customer oriented, even offering to bring TT water. A M B I A N C E Dark, moody sexy underground bar and lounge inspired by adult cinemas on Sutter street in the 70s. Pretty quiet on weeknights after work (music is not too loud). Spacious and plenty of seating with a private areas and pool table. Totally different vibe than their Peninsula sister bars. When renovating the space, I wished they updated the restrooms. If you sit at the cocktail tables near the restroom, it still has a stench that I remember from The Cellar days. Maybe a building plumbing issue? P A R K I NG Free street parking after 6 pm but very challenging so take a rideshare. Overall, Persona is a great first stop or last stop if you're hitting up the bars in the area (Pacific Cocktail Haven, Propagation, Peacekeeper, Key Klub, etc)....esp IF seating is your requirement to go out these days! read more

Clearly a lot of effort went into building these rooms and evoking a certain vibe for each. THE ESCAPE ROOM // The puzzles in the escape room varied in difficulty - some required us to think a bit more, some required our observational skills to work harder, and others required a light level of physical skill/movement. We were perplexed a few times but never got stuck for too long, as the White Rabbit (played by Phoenix, the live actor/puzzle master) would jump in occasionally to provide clues over the speaker or in person. It took us about 1 hr 20 min to finish the entire escape room; I thought the pacing was good. THE [ESCAPE ROOM] DRINKS // Lore's escape room experience comes with "a flight of themed cocktails or mocktails, including "potion"-style drinks that are integrated into the experience as you progress", per the website. We got to choose one cocktail/mocktail option (Korean Cold Noodles) from a list on the website, and the other two drinks are pre-selected to supposedly fit into the Wonderland theme, with the flavors described online as "berry" and "peach". You can get both cocktail and mocktails for your party, in case some people want alcohol and others don't. We all enjoyed the flavor of the Korean Cold Noodles cocktail, which was refreshing and surprisingly a bit minty in the mocktail version. However, we didn't like the two other two pre-selected themed drinks as much. The "berry" drink gave us cherry cough syrup vibes, and the cocktail version of it was quite strong. The "peach" mocktail drink reminded me of canned fruit syrup; we also were missing the two cocktail versions, though we decided not to ask for them as the mocktail version already was less than impressive. One other missed expectation here was the size of the drinks that we received in the escape room. We were expecting full-sized cocktails, like what they serve in the speakeasy in front. Instead, we found out that the drinks are served in small "vials". Given the size of the drinks in the escape room, combined with us not even enjoying two out of the three drinks, I would preferred to go through the escape room without the drinks at all, and likely pay a bit less for the escape room then. OVERALL // I'd still recommend the escape room as a good one-time experience with a date/friends/family. Just don't expect too much from the included themed drinks! Like they were left over from the night before. Randy enjoyed his mocha. We shared a very dry, flavorless except for the two small bits of jam in them, "cheese" danish. Definitely skip this $7 item that you could get at a circle k for $1.50 and it would taste fresher. You order when you walk in and someone delivers your order and then you're left to fend for yourself. We were able to locate some ketchup for the potatoes on our own. Nobody ever checked on us. This is the second place on this visit that's charging an extra 5% fee so that their employees can have a living wage and health insurance, which absolutely, every employee should have. With the prices they charge, they should already be able to do that, though. I read an article about this fee with many different names and I would rather pay a bit higher of a price and know the employees were taken care of than be surprised by this fee later. Two sandwich breakfasts, a mocha and a danish on top of tax and their healthy sf fee was $63. Steep for the quality we got. Won't be back.

Trust me well worth it and you'll be hard pressed to pick your favorite.

Persona is a stylish and classy bar located in Lower Nob Hill, San Francisco. The entrance is marked by stairs that lead you downstairs, where you're welcomed by neon lights and a sleek atmosphere. The bar sits at the center, facing the DJ setup, with plenty of seating and tables scattered around the space. I visited on a Monday after work, and it was completely empty--definitely a place to check out on a weekend for live music and a livelier vibe. I visited Persona to inquire about hosting a larger event, and here's what I found: - For 100 people, there's a larger space to the right of the bar (with a pool table), requiring a $3,000 minimum spend. - For 75 people, there's a more enclosed area, with a $2,000 minimum spend. To track spending, guests simply need to give the host's last name when ordering. If you're planning to reserve the space, note that while there is a DJ, you won't have control over the music selection during events. The bartender was efficient and provided clear information about the booking process, though I found them to be a bit unpersonable (a little ironic for a place called Persona). I recently visited Persona and had a great time! My friends and I came Friday evening, a little after 11 pm, for some Friday night drinks. It was my first time here and I was surprised by how large the place is and how much seating is available. We were able to place two tables together and create a comfy cornerfor the 7 of us. The lounge area is perfect for chilling with friends, whether you're in a big group or just a few people. It wasn't too crowded, even on a Friday night, which was a pleasant surprise. The music was at a reasonable level until around midnight when they cranked it up, making it hard to have a conversation. We finally left around 12:30 as it got too loud for us. The cocktails were reasonably priced (most were around $15-16) and looked amazing. I opted for a mocktail called the Cozy Cool ($10) and it was delicious as well. Overall, Persona is a great spot for a casual night out with friends. I would definitely recommend checking it out. read more

I dont know much about cocktails, but Markus, one of the bartenders was so kind and patient that I didn't feel rushed to order my drink. I've been searching for a chill Sunday night spot until I found out that Persona had free live music on Sunday nights. Turns out I recognized the local SF musicians on Sundays--they play Latin jazz, salsa, even some pop covers (with a Latin feel). They have an extensive cocktail menu, and shoutout to the bartenders Marcus and Queenie who were both friendly and provided great service. Sunday nights are a great night to hang with friends at the private booth, or for a date night by the bar. If you're able to, I definitely recommend browsing through the extensive menu online beforehand. While the menu is predominantly rum based drinks, there is also a handful of drinks that are not rum based. They also happen to have a non-alcoholic option where you can describe the flavor profile you're looking for and the bartender can put together a custom mocktail for you. I came in to Smuggler's Cove assuming everything would be over the top in terms of sweetness, but the drinks here are very well balanced. You can definitely taste the fresh citrus used in the drinks here. If you're looking for something very spirit forward, definitely look for items on the menu with a diamond next to it. I ended up ordering two drinks in the hour that I was there -- a zombie and a "Heaux Geaux", their take on the classic Vieux Carre. Since there was only one bartender downstairs, it took a while for the drinks to be prepared. I would recommend ordering your second drink about 20 minutes ahead of when you actually want it. Overall, Smuggler's Cove is probably the best tiki bar I've visited in the Bay Area. The drinks here are spectacular.

After a park day at the Presidio, we wanted to move the party and we decided on Bar Darling. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was jam packed. Luckily we were able to get some space in the alley way for us to order drinks from our server. We've been on a Friday around 5pm on another day, it wasn't as busy, so definitely a great place to start and maybe end the night. In a time where craft cocktails have gotten really expensive, Bar Darling offers craft cocktails (their signature cocktails) all for $14 each. If you know Peacekeeper, you know there's a lot of thought and imagination that goes into their drinks and it definitely shows here. My favorites were the Mama J (tequila based) and the Jaji (mezcal based). The aesthetic and vibes of this place is 10/10. Definitely great for a group of friends and/or date night!

I got the kiki & coco cocktail, and just one was plenty. A lot of cocktail bars water down their drinks so that they're a step up from juice but not here! The kiki & coco definitely packed a punch. My friend bought us a bunch of light bites, and I was a sucker for the brie bites. While the truffle tots, spinach tarts, rice cakes, and crudite n dip platter were tasty, the brie bites were addicting and kept returning for another. Only bit of a downer was the lack of comfortable space since the bar is pretty narrow. The outside patio was pretty packed and not a lot of space to set stuff, but inside tucked away in the back corner near the pool table, we kept running into and having to dodge the patrons shooting pool. Not a big deal breaker or anything, just something I noticed. Overall, I think my friend's golden bday party was a massive success and loved that it brought us all together for the night.

I got the Tokyo Old Fashioned, and it was smooth and perfectly balanced, so of course, I had to get a second one. Service was great too; our server was super attentive and checked in often, so we never had to flag him down. Overall, it's a great spot to hang out and grab drinks. I'll definitely be back to try more of their cocktails!

I got the Whiskey highball and the Pandan highball and both were refreshing and hit the spot. The server was friendly and attentive. Be warned, they don't really have food, more like just a few scattered bar bites (I think mostly hot dogs), so don't expect to get a full meal here or anything it's mostly just a cocktail bar. Overall, I'd come back! This was exactly the low key kind of vibe I love for a cocktail lounge.
